I was drinking a glass of water after watching the Angels VS Dodgers on my DVR when it hit. I almost choaked on the water because I tried speaking while drinking (stupid Idea dont try it lol). It was a 4.4 with the center in Pico Rivera. Feel free to share your stories here.
Uh...
Something woke me up. I immediately rolled over and went back to sleep. Upon waking up for real 10 minutes ago, I opened earthquake.usgs.gov and saw a 4.4 quake in Whittier struck right about the time I woke up.

I thought it was just my dogs jumping in bed after they barked at the milkman.. until I kept seeing all these threads about earthquakes.

But did it set off your car alarm??

It woke us up in Santa Ana.
It felt like a large trash truck driving by. Quick, with a slitght jiggle. I checked the clock. 4:04am.
Whenever one hits my first reaction is to brace and concentrate on the noise and motion and try to see how strong it is and how great the danger. When it passes, the next thought is to worry about how far away was the epicenter. The farther away it was, the worse it was for those who were close. So a light one to me might have just devastated San Diego.
So, when I got up later, I immediately checked the news. The first reports were much lower. Low 3’s.

first floods and now earthquakes. Mother nature just does not like me

Woke me up
My first thought was that someone broke into the house or someone was out in our back yard destroying our new fence materials. I listened for a few minutes and realized there was no more noise, so I went back to sleep. I didn’t realize it was an earthquake until I read it online this morning. We live in Downey, about 5 miles from the epicenter.

I was sleeping. Then I woke up. Then i went to bed.

Spoken like a true SoCal native
Only people born out-of-state get that worked up over a wimpy 4.4
I also woke up, felt the building shake but didn’t hear any of my shit breaking & so decided to go back to sleep again.

To be truthful, I woke up but never lifted my head off the pillow.
I only opened one eye to check the clock. I was back asleep before 4:05.

Didn't feel it.
WiHaloFan - March 16, 2010
I went to bed at about 3:30
wish I had stayed up the extra half hour just to be awake for it.
It jolted me awake out of a dream that, of course, had been about an earthquake for about 5 seconds, but by the time I was totally conscious, it was over. I lay there for a second thinking “did that just happen or was it a dream?” Rolled over, grabbed my laptop off my nightstand, and checked USGS, said “huh, how about that,” and went back to sleep.

I live in HB
And the Pico Rivera quake did not wake me up. In fact the last earthquake that woke me up was the Hector Mine earthquake.
