Not to be a registered Democrat and embrace regulation that stifles freedom and growth, but I was going to tinker with the site rules and thought to ask here for your input.
Many years ago some guy posted that he loved the site but his kids were not allowed on it because of the F-Bombage. A wonderful discussion of standards versus censorship followed and we arrived at the 1 F-Bomb per month rule.
So there you have it, so have at it... this is the thread for feedback related to how we as a community should operate, what we should tolerate and where to draw the line.

HALOS HEAVEN TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. The Angels and Baseball are the topics. Have fun!
2. OPTIMISTIC? Don't bully others into cheering along
3. PESSIMISTIC? Bitch once, then offer a solution. Don’t bitch twice, it’s alright
4. Martyrs and Hostile posters get banned fastest
5. Your opinion is always allowed, but so is everyone's opinion of your opinion
6. Use the F-word once a month maximum
7. No T&A pictures. No exceptions
8. No Ticket Sales
9. No posting pictures in game threads
10. Sidebar Headlines MUST convey the Subject

You have any idea how many language the scripture gets translated through?
There are bound to be some mistakes here and there. ;-)
Caseys Kiss of Death - March 16, 2010
Kids shouldn't be on the internet unsupervised.
F-bomb it away in my book, vato.
clover_black - March 15, 2010
I disagree I think monitoring it is a good idea.
If you can’t convey a message without them then you will learn fast or else. I just think that that rule really helps make the site better.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
How about
if you can’t convey a message “you will learn fast or else.” The ban hammer shouldn’t be contingent on f-bombs.
Unless this affects advertising revenue, which for some reason I always thought was the case— not some d-bag dad who was disappointed that his underage children were talking to potty mouth strangers… strangers are ok…but steer clear of the salty ones.
Honestly I don’t really care either way, its a great site, just my two cents and either way it doesn’t make or break HH.
clover_black - March 15, 2010
U agree with the limit
and I use F-bombs in real life like they’re goin out of style. But check out a Lone Star Ball game thread and see what unrestricted language and T&E photos looks like. This plce is classy without being sterilized. The Rev has it right on most of these.
Moondoggy - March 15, 2010
I thoroughly enjoy LSB.
But their misery = my joy. All the more sweeter with the f-bomage.
clover_black - March 15, 2010
lol true
and the biggest whiners in the net
Moondoggy - March 15, 2010
LSB is a toolshed (for the most part)
I just discovered this a few days ago. Before that, I respected most Ranger fans.
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
these guys do not represent Ranger fans
I spend a great deal of time in Dallas and I’ve been to several games at the Ballpark. The fans are universally welcoming and good natured. Fans at Anaheim Stadium could learn a lot from them. The losers on LSB are so pathetic as to be extremely humorous. After any Ranger loss, a short trip to LSB makes me smile.
Moondoggy - March 18, 2010
IIRC the issue was
That some posters enjoy reading the site with their kids and discussing some of the issues brought up here. This being the case, they don’t like seeing the site littered with coarse language. Although I don’t (yet?) have kids, the further I get from college the more I tend to agree.
Clutch - March 15, 2010
Kids love HH
It is viewed right After Hannah Montana
“The best of both worlds”
Halo and Disney (together again,….forever)
DAD OF VLAD - March 15, 2010
Ha!
Clutch - March 16, 2010
I think F-bombs are fine if they are accompanied by...
…some useful information. If a poster is making an original point — or a creative point — and the f-bomb qualifier helps bring the moment of genius into form, I’m all for it. It’s the useless one-liners and arbitrary binge fuckage that makes a thread feel like West Baltimore.
My vote’s for ess West Baltimore — more The Wire.
Maybe #6 should be rewritten to speak to whom it’s written for: “Keep the kids and ladies in mind. No arbitrary or excessive f-bombs or lady-hatin’ verbiage.”
I think the lady-hatin’ verbiage is more of a problem around here than the eff-age.
Turks Teeth - March 15, 2010
Agree and think your right about how that should be written
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Please explain how I'm going to talk about brian fuentes

i disagree but will fight for your right to say it (or whatever the quote is)
i don’t like too much cursing in NON-game threads (game day threads are alright). plus it means more on the board when you use the f word. (and hilarious when people write that is their one/month f bomb usage)
Halos in DE - March 16, 2010
Forrest Gump once told me
“Using the F-bomb shows how stupid you are. Atleast that is what my mother said”

DAD OF VLAD - March 15, 2010
This is the first one that comes to mind.
11) No more than one fan-post per week. Fan-shots limited to 3 per week. You cannot possibly have 6 fan-posts worth of thought out, well written, unique material to post a week.
PhiSlamma - March 15, 2010
I wonder who that is aimed at
ryanfea - March 15, 2010
no idea who??
:)
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Halopenis, apparently...
The Limey - March 15, 2010
Im glad you caught the filename.
PhiSlamma - March 15, 2010
I think 1 per week is a little two much.
However limiting it to maybe like 3 a week wouldn’t be bad. I wouldn’t worry about fanshots those are easy not to look at anyway if you don’t want to. No reason why they need to be limited.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Yes, there is a reason to limit them.
The reason I came here from the Angels Official Board was because of the constant posting of the same shit constantly, no new thought added, and repeated idea over and over. Quantity over Quality.
This is not the fucking flea market. I do not want to shuffle through SHIT to find stuff I ACTUALLY WANT. Yes I am talking about Halowood, get over it. I don’t care at this point because its seriously downgrading this site’s quality.
I do not mind if you post whatever crap you want once a week/month/season, but when its FOUR fanposts in TWO days and one of them is literally a REPOST OF ANOTHER FANPOST THAT IS AN INCH DOWN THE PAGE then I CARE.
If you want a bunch of shit reposted over and over with very little thought given to either the original post or the responses, then, by all mean, go to other shitty sites that I do not go to because they allow shit like this. Is this a personal attack? No, Im sure you are a cool dude Halowood, but right now you are seriously fucking with my Angels world, and that will not stand.
PhiSlamma - March 15, 2010
Are f-bomb rules in effect in any thread where f-bomb rules are being debated?
Meanwhile, somebody needs to tell Halowood that Granderson might be available.
Stirrups - March 15, 2010
OH MY GOD HES AVAILABLE?
PhiSlamma - March 15, 2010
What do you think it would take to acquire him?

Reading those threads feels like listening to the old hags on "The View"
Where they just yak and yak and yak endlessly about nothing of any real consequence
Quad Fin Rider - March 15, 2010
Then just don't read them.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
I don't anymore, but they're cluttering up the board
at least 3 or 4 of those last posts were so closely related to one another that they could have easily been combined into one large post that I could ignore.
Quad Fin Rider - March 15, 2010
But if he would have combined those you all would complain it was to long
OH NO!!. just saying. I see your point and said how it could be made better already.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
The problem
with it is that there’s only so much space on the front page. If one person posts too many things, it just pushes other stuff off the page…stuff that one might want to read, if one knew it were there.
jjackflash - March 15, 2010
The rec button is an awesome invention :)
no thats partly why i further down somewhere said maybe increase how many words you must have for the minimum on fanposts.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
really that isn’t bad
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
The fact that you screen'd and MS Painted what you were talking about shows dedication

I put mine up first….so there!
ArchAngel_7 - March 15, 2010
Or just make them one fan shot
save some space for the other guy on the front page. Most(mostly new) people don’t go beyond the front page when visiting the site.
And before posting, do some (re)searching on this site first. See if it has been posted before your grand thought, or to make sure you are not doing a Coldplay type of subliminal plagiarism.
eyespy - March 15, 2010
Agree that you could put in the Guidelines to make sure that you are posting something on topic, that your thought on the subject hasn’t been posted already wise it gets deleted. No need to make your own post if you are saying the same thing as the person below you.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010

DAD OF VLAD - March 15, 2010
I wouldn't put such a strict limit on it.
I think it has to do with the excessive nature of posting. A “no excessive fanposting” rule would convey the message somewhat like the Supreme Court’s obscenity rule: “I know it when I see it.”

I'm kind of with clover_black here.
While I commiserate with the person who claimed that his son couldn’t visit the site due to excessive F-bombs and the like, why should the rest of us muzzle our comments, in fear of a kid seeing some rather profane, and colorful commentary. I’m not advocating that we all go off like Redd Foxx in a drunken stupor, but honestly, how many kids are actually visiting and on this site regularly? I’ve always assumed that most of us here are mostly in their late teens, to crotchety old folks. What is more irksome to me are the incessant posts that are usually covering the same subject.
halofolife - March 15, 2010

When it comes to F bombs I think limiting them in game threads is a good idea
But I want to unleash the dragon in any other thread.
PhiSlamma - March 15, 2010
I say the other way around.
allow in game threads cause people are just passionate and get out of hand its ok but limit it like we do other threads
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
That was a mess. The game threads were out of control

Game threads

No threads about politics, yes
But if a thread naturally goes in that direction and people want to talk about it, I don’t see the problem with it. As long as the other rules are abided during it, I don’t mind.
Off-Topic discussion is a part of every forum.
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
Yes and in other forums those threads are marked OT
I do not think I am the only one here who does not want to see that junk on this site.
Sometimes it is nice to have an island where you do not have to think about politics.
hauldog - March 15, 2010
Agree Politics should be avoided. We don't want a community i don't think with people going at it (with each other) in all kinds of threads.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
I agree with both of you that it should be limited, but not banned
Maybe we should require OT threads to be marked “OT”.
Any discussion dealing with player salaries, the draft, steroids, Torii-Hunter type incidents, etc. will naturally lead to some political references and discussion. I don’t think you can totally ban that stuff, nor should you.
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
It has been banned for quite some time.
hauldog - March 15, 2010
Really?
In my short time here, I’ve seen threads evolve to the point where politics comes in.
Or do you mean starting a thread based on politics?
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
Politics have been banned
In your short time the rules have been overlooked.
hauldog - March 15, 2010
you could but I see your point with salaries.
I say if you see it going that way make a fanshot about that subject and talk about it there so it is off the front page.

Some of those posts that delved into religion. either intentionally or by accident, got fairly spiky in a hurry. And I do apologise, belatedly, sort of.
The Limey - March 15, 2010
both should not be allowed. maybe politics related to Salaries and baseball allowed only in the fanshots section.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
No, just make it to where you can't post threads about it
If it comes up in discussion, like salaries, PEDs, any other examples that can relate to a baseball discussion at hand, it should be allowed.
So if someone starts a thread on PED usage, then you ought to be able to talk about the politics of that, since it’s relevant.
If someone tries to start a thread on Health Care Reform, that should be banned.
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010

Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
Id say ok if it is made clear like in your exammple.
if it is about PEDs or likely Salaries you know politics will come into it and id be ok with it in those types of posts and threads only.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010

Turks Teeth - March 15, 2010
Regarding the F-bomb
I feel it should be “all or nothing” in the sense that it should either be allowed all the time or not at all.
What is this once a month thing? How about passing a law that you are allowed to run stop signs once a month? It makes no sense and is almost impossible to enforce. I’m sure the intent of the rule is to make sure it doesn’t get over-used, but then why not start restricting other things: You’re only allowed to disagree with one person per month so you aren’t as “controversial”, and only allowed to participate in 10 game threads a month so you don’t “intimidate” those who don’t post as often.
It’s fucking arbitrary shit like this that makes me use my one f-bomb per month.
BrownLunchSack - March 15, 2010
Almost agree :)
I think it is because he knows that sometimes it comes out and isn’t going to just ban someone for using one (think that would be wrong). I think if they keep doing it thats when you get banned.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
With all due respect
youve been around for about 12 games (Sep 25 2009), so its not like youve had alot of opportunities to use your f-bomb.
When a word is restricted, it carries more meaning. Ive made over 3500 comments on HH, and only 24 of them have had an f-bomb in them. When I drop an f-bomb, I really mean it.
anaheim angels - March 15, 2010
That’s great for you personally, but has nothing to do with the issue. To me that’s more of an argument for proper usage rather than flat out restriction.
brokenyard - March 15, 2010

I haven’t been on HH for long enough to tender an opinion on the F bombs. This is a site primarily for adults though, so I would not think there is a huge need to censor it.

Neither of those guys ever surrender, and the cascade pollution makes following the game chat nigh impossible.

Food? Did somebody make mention of food?
Dude, I whipped up a double mustard crusted pork loin, with a carrots, onions and fennel with a reduction jus that I pulled off the food network web site.
Un-friggin’-believable.
I recommend serving it with blackened green beans and a sweet potato and corn pudding. Open with a spring salad with dates, candied walnuts, machega cheese and a homemade strawberry balsamic vinaigrette.
And accompany with 6 or 7 bottles of your favorite meritage.

Spanish goat cheese. Flaked thin.
Yes. Manchego cheese. Dropping the “n” was a typo. Part of my charm. Using the “a” as the final letter was sheer mistake.
Still, typose or not, I also love the stuff. Among the finest hard cheeses anywhere.

…it meant a lot to him.
Having said that I’m happy he won’t have that chance – we have better right sided midfielders than Beckham available for selection.
The Limey - March 16, 2010
Debatable...
Beckham always had an impact coming of the bench. He is also a leader of the team (despite what people may think of him, and much more so off the field than Terry) and we will miss his experience. The hard work he puts in to earn a place on Capello’s bench has been admirable.
Lennon (if fit, hopefully) should be a no brainer. Walcott has been poor, Ashley Young has been non-existent, Milner i’ve never been impressed with, Adam Johnson would be a crazy left-field choice, which leaves Shaun Wright-Phillips who to me, is an similar, older and less effective Aaron Lennon. Beckham at least brought something different, as a dead ball specialist and with his passing ability (still one of the best on our team).
Goddamn injuries.

blochead - March 15, 2010
but i don't have access to any televised soccer matches
blochead - March 15, 2010
Won 4-1 tonight, Torres scored twice, andy they played beautifully, but....
…the season has been a complete abortion.
Worst season since ‘92 (or whenever it was that Souness was in charge), struggling to qualify for the Champion’s league and being completely fucked over and held to ransom by Tom Hicks, the prick, who is refusing to invest any money in the club.
The outlook is poor and the football has been worse. I’ve spent most of the season barely able to watch without grimacing.
8 games to play. Man Utd away from home next up.
The Limey - March 15, 2010
there ruly is danger of relegation?
I guess this is the only way the Wolves could catch Liverpool
Moondoggy - March 15, 2010
It would be great if they beat Man Utd
I’m sure games like those are a joy to watch. I guess a Champions League berth is what they are aiming for at this point, am I right?
In your opinion, what would be the lesser of the three evils; Man Utd, Chelsea, or Arsenal winning the league title?
blochead - March 15, 2010
Arsenal
Man United are the embodiment of all that is evil and unclean – think Yankees and then dunk them in pig shit and you’re just about there.
Chelsea are nouveau riche arrivistes lacking class, dignity and captained by a turd who should be in jail.
Arsenal at least play beautiful football, even if their manager looks like a paedophile.
CL berth is possible, but they’ll have to win at least 7 of their last 8.
The Limey - March 15, 2010
Ah I should have said CL qualifying
Any chance that Hicks ends up selling the team in the near future?
blochead - March 15, 2010
Same rules apply - gonna be a struggle to get in
As for Hicks, he’s not selling unless the bank makes him (a real possiblity – he’s leveraged up to the gills), or unless someone gives him a profane amount of money.
If he does come back to the UK to watch another game, there’s a real chance someone might try to harm him. His son had to be dragged out of a Liverpool pub by bodyguards for his own protection last year and by comparison, we quite like him (especially now he’s been sacked from the board, the prick).

I think the existing rules are fine; maybe we need some new ones about FanPosts/shots
Like,
11) “If you put up a FanPost or FanShot about the same topic/story/event that is already the subject of a FanPost or FanShot, it will be deleted with prejudice and without explanation. Do it twice, and you’re on thin ice. Three strikes and, well, this is baseball.”
12) “Add value. You can go ahead and write a FanPost on the subject of ‘What I Think About the Angels’ Offseason,’ or ‘What do you think of my starting lineup?’, but if it doesn’t bring anything new, don’t be surprised to see it canned.”
I may also have sympathy for “Remember, there are ladies present,” and “Just because you didn’t agree with it doesn’t mean the article you are linking to is part of the East Coast Bias/Stat-geek conspiracy against Gene Autry’s ghost.”
mattwelch - March 15, 2010
I think all three are good.
Related to one I don’t think it is wrong to be the same subject if it is a different line of thought necessarily but at most only two fanposts of a subject allowed. If you are making a fanpost and two on that subject have been made EXPECT it to be deleted.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Nope - I'm all for militancy on this topic
…repetition bores everyone. If you’ve got a different perspective then use it to liven up the existing thread.
Just sticking another one out there with your name on it is narcissism not innovation.
The Limey - March 15, 2010
^^THIS^^
If you have a different take on the same subject, then the existing thread is EXACTLY the PERFECT place to put it. It may inspire even another opinion on that topic, resulting in a deeper, more thoughtful discussion of the topic. Plus it will minimize duplicate threads as well as duplicate ideas within threads, saving us all time.
yeswecan - March 15, 2010
I think the ONE thing that does need to be examined is posting times.
I’ve seen a RARE few that were done within minutes of each other, so knowledge of the other’s existence was nil
ladybug - March 15, 2010
Then that is understandable but as you said those situations are rare and in those leave both up no one did anything wrong and therefore no way to judge fairly who gets to keep there's.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Those rules look pretty good.
Fair, even-handed, and easily understood.
1 F-Bomb per month is perfect. If someone’s going to use that word, let’s have it mean something or be about something important; semi-monthly or more would also mean too many maledictions for the kiddies as the total count of f-bombs could double (or quadruple!).
But make whatever rules you want, Rev and The Rest, and make exceptions whenever you want. Your house, your rules.
Oh, and I always meant to say: Thanks to HalosHeaven and (his/her/its?) creators/janitors. This is a great place, and I appreciate being able to have HH around.
LittleCupcakes - March 15, 2010
Opinion #837182722
Since we’re all sharing them.
I realize that a forum needs some house rules, especially for new folks that need to understand the absolute no-no’s. No problem. But those should be few and important.
But I’m not sure how low the general sense of intelligence has fallen so low that people feel the need to create some of these proposed rules.
They read like…
Rule #22: “No more than 2 f-bombs, 3 sh!t or a$$ usages, and 6 phallic references per 17 days or 9 threads, whichever comes first”
Rule #39: “No more than 3 threads over 7 days unless defined by at least 5 degrees of separation and don’t mention Q or Wood vs. Izturis more than twice”
Rule #42: “No animated gifs or YouTube links in any thread, unless it involves vampires or lulzcats because I like thems”
Rule #66: “Halopeepee… Your message boards are that way —> … From all your friends at SB Nation”
All good forums/blogs I’ve been a part of for many years seem to find a way to police themselves. Does it matter if someone uses a cuss word 3 times yet makes a great, emphatic post? Or someone follows all the ‘rules’ but posts shyte day after day?
I think the regulars will ensure that a certain level of decorum is maintained. Keep the rules to a few, and then those rules will have real meaning.
RedFog - March 15, 2010
rule 22 not possible

DAD OF VLAD - March 15, 2010

RedFog - March 15, 2010

Just so Brandon won’t have the worst name on the team.
Brew Angel - March 16, 2010
You have a point.
I think all the rules sometimes harms a site also. Letting the group police itself often does bring a good result as you see with many other sites.
Ill just be honest here: I think many times after reading the rules when someone first joins and maybe reading a thread or two They are intimidated. Why you ask because we use the rules to such a level (Rev) that often times we are not sure when something is going to get to him. It may not even be a rule. Also you notice more fans of the same team attacking each other than other teams fans. I see it most times im here, Some of the posters spend more time attacking a poster of the same team for a post or comment than they do to any conversation.
I find this site a lot less pleasant (I love the Angels) than many others because of the atmosphere many times in a thread. people are not sure when enough is enough cause it isn’t always consistent.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Pleasant? Usually.
But it is always stimulating. Too much fanboyism is tiring. I like HH because deliberations and open discussion lead to a more informed, balanced, and defensible opinion. I swear, some blogs are just Go Team! all the time. It’s pointless.
BruinHalo - March 15, 2010
I understand that.
There is a difference between content berating (maybe not right word) of your fellow fans and being Homer and never correcting a wrong (totally in accurate) train of thought. My point was just that with to much or going overboard at times you actually turn some fans away cause they don’t want to come here just to be attacked even if they don’t do anything absolutely wrong.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
I can understand that
I guess I’ve just been on here long enough to know that if you have something to say, say it. Just think it through before you throw it out there. If you have thick skin, you can be a bit ballsier.
In the end, the intimidation can benefit the site by weeding out posts no one wants to read.
Or, you could do what I do- lurk 98% of the time and post 2% and only in response to what other people say.
BruinHalo - March 15, 2010
Oh I got the thick skin but im talking in general sense.
I think the only rule that could be added to cut down and make the quality of posts better would be the minimum number of words.
Anyway that is unrelated. I was just referring back be being told I would be banned a while back because I didn’t start my sentences with capitals and have great grammar and found that quite lame. Anyway im mostly over that lol.

BruinHalo - March 15, 2010
I've just read through every comment on this post. Thanks to all of you for the headache! I think the proposed new rules are;
1) If a fanpost or fanshot is a repeat, boring, or stupid, let the f-bombs fly!
2) If you’re gonna talk about food, give some kind of warning BEFORE your comment so eyespy can get something to eat. Common courtesy…
3) Whatever the rules, PhiSlamma is exempt. Unless ladies or children are involved. If women or children are involved, then Phi has to agree to some other wild tattoo before the exemption is extended.
4) If you’re going to post a picture or GIF or YouTube linkie during a game, 44Fan get’s unlimited f-bomb privileges to smoke your ass.
5) Politics and religion are BANNED. Your opinions are not welcome here. Unless you agree with my views. Then it’s OK.
6) T & A pics are banned, with the possible exception of future Mayheminthehood’s low hanging "Fruit of the Loom".
7) Militant brits (OK…Great Brits) should be banned from posting at HH. We don’t want to hear a f**king thing about health care on some itty bitty island on the other side of the pond.
8) With even consider selling tix here with StubHub?
9) Optimists, pessimists, martyrs, saints and hostile posters…you’re all condemned to Halos Heaven’s hell, so save time and ban yourself.
10) If you piss off the Rev, plan on being inducted into the "Satisfied Customer Hall of Fame." Like the Hotel California, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave…

I’m just a reader and game thread contributor since barely July or August of last year (don’t remember ), but I do read most posts/comments threads daily on my phone. I feel like even though I’ve been an Angels fan for very long, I don’t know or research enough to really post much.
Anyway, I just wanted to say you guys crack me the hell up, especially this comment thread. I think the rules are fine the way they are simply because I enjoy this blog and the “characters” associated with it. It’s cause of this blog and the frequent posters that made this offseason fly by, so…“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
On an unrelated note, because I didn’t want to do a fanshot, any fellow HHers want to get a little get together or meet for a beer before or during opening day’s game, I’d be interested in something like that…can’t wait for opening day!!!!!
The Furious Bat of Howie47 - March 15, 2010 via mobile

Mon Apr. 5th 4:00
Tour Guide: RedFog
Let’s do it.
Raaddad - March 15, 2010
Trust me. You've got to leave earlier.
The East LA interchange at 5:00 PM is a nightmare.
red floyd - March 15, 2010
Me? A tour guide?
If you want to hit all the good ’ole dive bars on the way down, sure.
We can start at the Chimney Sweep…then to The Blue Room, The Cave, The Cinema Bar, King Eddy Saloon and Frank N Hanks.
At this point, if we’ve not been picked up for DUI, we might make it as far as Doyer Stadium…
RedFog - March 15, 2010
As a rookie in this lineup, I am honored to entertain you
Here’s to hoping Brandon Wood contributes in a similar way this year.
/bows
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010
I second that
Raaddad - March 15, 2010
I feel honored to be a part of this
Thanks for cutting me some slack
Raaddad - March 15, 2010
Long-time listener, first-time caller
Quick question about F-bombs… If F-bombs are limited for the children, shouldn’t the “shit” word be limited as well?
Inkara1 - March 15, 2010
Sound reasoning
but nowadays, the F-word is still considered R-rated, but the S-word is merely PG.
rspencer - March 15, 2010
Plus...
What if I use fecking or f*cking?
That won’t violate the letter of the law but doesn’t it violate the spirit of the law? And wouldn’t anyone who is reading still be offended?
Which is why I think banning any type of vocabulary is a little silly.
RedFog - March 15, 2010
How about "fracking"?
red floyd - March 15, 2010
Gods damned toasters.
teopeht - March 16, 2010
Oh Felgercarb!
red floyd - March 16, 2010

ladybug - March 15, 2010
In sum: Rev, this is the most punk rock place in the baseball blogosphere
Don’t make too many huge changes or I might spill my beer.
Or worse…
SIMPLE PLAN COULD SHOW UP!!!
Commander_Nate - March 15, 2010

Raaddad - March 15, 2010
Ah, whatever...
When’s the next Halowood posting coming out?!
Raaddad - March 15, 2010
Pobably tonight :)
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
You guys are going to drive him away like...
…Dale on the Drive. Has he called back in the the last few weeks?
I worry about his safety. :P
RedFog - March 15, 2010
How did he get driven away??
oh and we are the two that like his posts.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
It's your fault
Raaddad - March 15, 2010
:(
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
Well, someone might have a Dale "Update" but...
…if the start of the season is anything like ST, you can bet he’ll be calling back in with 93812 I-told-you-so’s.
RedFog - March 15, 2010
I havent been able to listen in a few months so I don't know what has been going on.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
I'm joking...
…but it also goes towards the discussion here about ‘colorful characters’.
I remember Bigsy opening the phones to people to chime in on whether Dale should be allowed back on and most wanted to keep him on.
Because trainwrecks can be just as enjoyable as Mel from Fullerton :P
RedFog - March 15, 2010
I don't know, but I purely do hate Long Beach Lenny.
I don’t listen to the drive to hear Lenny. I listen to hear Biggsy and most everyone else.
red floyd - March 15, 2010
racist
Funke5ive - March 15, 2010
No. It's just that it's "The Drive with Jeff Bigs"
Not “The Drive with Long Beach Lenny”
red floyd - March 16, 2010
racist

Raaddad - March 16, 2010
As long as
your rules are not anal retentive like the ones on Lookout Landing. I would like to see a more consistent across the board set of guidelines for all of the SB Nation blogs.
vr, Xei
Xeifrank - March 15, 2010
yea I read LL's thinking of becoming a member and they are so strict I have no idea how anyone can enjoy it.
TheAngelsColts - March 15, 2010
it matches the misery
of being a fan of that team
Rev Halofan - March 15, 2010
You can't enjoy it
One of their mods has some serious issues and if you accidentally forget to capitalize your subject line or forget to have a subject line at all, then all hell will break loose. The site is also full of minions – but I believe they have a cream for that.
vr, Xei
Xeifrank - March 15, 2010
your last line there
was you best line yet XiFk
Rev Halofan - March 16, 2010
I guess like rev has said they have to make your experience miserable.
They are doing what the team does I guess.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
what?!?!?!
they brought back jr. thats like…. the glimmer of light in the seattle fog and rain.
teopeht - March 16, 2010
My daughter is thinking of going to college in M-Land.
red floyd - March 16, 2010

or Bo sux land
princeton11loveshalos - March 16, 2010
new rule
Forget how many f-bombs people can use. Cut people off with a maximum of 12 misspelled words. Or maybe create an f-bomb thesaurus: 20 alternatives to the f-bomb in ascending order of anger.
aceoneline_98 - March 16, 2010
It's basically been said, but:
Lift the fucking f-bomb ban.
Also, no opinion-based posts that offer nothing new. Posts about suggested line-ups, seasonal/statistical predictions or “what I would do if I were in charge” are narcissistic and redundant, and should be reserved for discussion within necessary posts that provide new information. This rule might excuse humorous posts, but this place is a tough crowd. You better make with the funny if you are going to take that chance.
And while I’m not necessarily suggesting a grammar rule, it wouldn’t hurt some of you to brush up on some of the basics, or give proper attention to the spell-check function.
Red114 - March 16, 2010
the problem with no f-bomb ban
is the posts become a non-stop diatribe of f-bombs. No intellectual thought. No rhyme, no reason. It’s boring, annoying and just pisses off the proverbial pig. It also makes whomever sound really stupid as if one foot is irreversibly in the trailer park
ladybug - March 16, 2010
Racist!
sothball - March 16, 2010
I'm an anti-trash-ite
ladybug - March 16, 2010

agent_99 - March 16, 2010
But are you an anti-dentite?
red floyd - March 16, 2010

ladybug - March 16, 2010
You beat me to it red floyd!
I was going to use the anti-dentite line!
halofolife - March 17, 2010
Curious
Whay do you consider the “basics”?
Raaddad - March 16, 2010
The basics.
AlanFalcon - March 16, 2010
the basics
I can’t open that link, but you can’t just say “the basics” and not differentiate between the 1000’s of different error patterns, or just throw in a “grammar dictionary” of some sort and these are “the basics,” brother AF. Ok, so spelling is a “basic,” I’ll give you that. But then are we talking subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, verb tense agreement, sentence boundary errors like sentence fragments, run on sentences, comma splices? (which are the kinds of things teachers and professors generally consider “basic” errors in writing) I mean, sentence fragments abound in our posts and comments; it’s almost like a “basic” part of the posting aesthetic on these blogs is to write in a fragmented style sometimes—it’s a rhetorical strategy that allows for a sort of humorous approach on occasion, one might argue. So there is one basic rule of basic grammar that we frequently throw right out the window, or computer screen or whatever. I don’t have a problem with it, but professionally it is frowned upon in a major way.
Raaddad - March 16, 2010
that is our voice when we post
So grammatically speaking is not what one usually does.
We are not English majors; we do not hold a PhD in the written word; if we can get our point across, and the ones that were meant to understand what was written get it, we did our job. The rest must break the code.
we write like we speak, or how we would like to be heard. Us uncivilized ones, the uncouth, the sloth, we dregs.
eyespy - March 16, 2010
good points
it is not a dead language so the wrong way today might be the right way tomorrow.
Rev Halofan - March 16, 2010
Exactly--that's my point
We are given to flights of fancy, shall we say, slinging madcap American English, etc.
I’m just trying to clarify this concept of “remembering the Basics” as stated above, in reference to grammar, syntax and punctuation, I believe. So what “basics” exactly are we referring to? Just spelling? (and hitting the reply tab correctly…ach….). Not all capital letters? I mean, what other basic rules do we really have to subscribe to here?
Raaddad - March 16, 2010
Agree
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
And this coming from an English teacher correct??
I thought you said that before.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
Close
but no cigar
Raaddad - March 16, 2010
Oh and btw
Doing any play-by-play this aft.? :)
Raaddad - March 16, 2010
