After the untimely, tragic passing of Angels play-by-play man Rory Markas in January, the Angels hired Victor Rojas to make their television broadcasts an entertaining and informative product. Rojas left the MLB Network for Los Angeles of Anaheim and delivered at the microphone. His blend of intelligence, passion, knowledge of the game and objectivity about each contest made for a far better season in the booth than on the field.

Yeah i can do without his little Rory remix..
“LIGHT THAT BABY UP!” …. maybe it was just too soon
wheres_bourjos_at - December 25, 2010 via mobile
I agree
“Light that baby up” as well as “opo taco”, “big fly”, and “jimmy jack” are a all a little awkward.
Beat The Red Sux - December 25, 2010
You have a problem with Big Fly?
That’s about as dry and direct as you can get for a home-run nickname. I’m not a fan of the Jimmy Jack, however the “Cuban Missle” is awesome…“Opo Taco” is just ridiculous but also incredibly fitting for a Southern California team.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - December 25, 2010
I'd put this higher than 8
Especially as incentive for management to FINISH THE JOB, by hiring someone worthy to be his partner. We have had mediocre broadcasting for far too long, and Victor is a welcome jolt of both professionalism and 21st century-fluent energy.
mattwelch - December 25, 2010
Victor Rojas is the best free agent signing in 20 years
PhiSlamma - December 25, 2010
Don't forget Victor's sense of humor.
Very understated and dry, which is perfect for the booth, unlike Gubi.
I still think Victor would match up perfectly with Hud’s goofiness.
red floyd - December 25, 2010
Rojas + Hud is my dream broadcast.
PhiSlamma - December 25, 2010
As is mine
TheKingfish - December 25, 2010
Yea, if only they BROUGHT BACK HUD TOO!
That would have been #7 on the list
Raaddad - December 25, 2010
Victor's catch phrases would be awesome
If Gubi didn’t play them out.
halofan4life - December 25, 2010 via mobile
I don't understand
what everyone sees in Rex Hudler, I was endlessly annoyed and embarrassed by that guy. I think Victor and Gubi have a good chemestry.
Beat The Red Sux - December 25, 2010
Our spring '10 poll
Showed that about 80% dug Hud and wanted him back;
About 10% of you didn’t.
(10% didn’t give a damn)
Raaddad - December 25, 2010
Maybe
But they have awkward “chemistry”.
Rojas is smart, funny and a student of the game. Why does he have to bounce his observations off a dullard?
LAASurfin - December 25, 2010
I felt that
Rex had just this enthusiastic energy that perfectly balanced excitement with proffesionalism
Halos2011champs - December 25, 2010 via mobile
^THIS^
Plus he knew a shitload about playing the game
Raaddad - December 25, 2010
+1
angelslogic - December 25, 2010
He also had a wonderfully
Unique sound to his voice.
Halos2011champs - December 25, 2010 via mobile
I was getting tired of him,
But once he left, and Gubi/Rojas was there, I realized I really liked him. Don’t know what ya got till it’s gone.
Figgi4life - December 25, 2010 via mobile
Pave paradise
Put up a parking lot
Raaddad - December 25, 2010
Gubi is a f***ing nightmare!!
Rex was honest and exciting… Vic and Hud would b a dream come true… i dont understand why they wouldnt bring him back???!!!
wheres_bourjos_at - December 25, 2010 via mobile
I think the organization cut its losse with Rex
My sense is that people at the top felt that he was so popular and identified with the Angels that any mis-step on his part might adversely affect the “brand” … If someone has equity in your brand with no actual ownership or control, economics advises you to disengage completely until the brand is identified with something, anything else.
Rev Halofan - December 25, 2010
I'm sure you are correct, sir.
Maybe if Premium gets this popular, they’ll have to let him go too. (lol)
We can try reverse pyschology, agree with Lyle Spencer, and talk about how much we all love Premium. He’ll be gone by Memorial day.
Raaddad - December 25, 2010
We
Want Rex back atleast for the postgame

Rory
I miss Rory’s calls. His sense of humor too. Rojas is great. While I love HUD he isn’t a very good announcer. He stepped on too many calls.
Dfresh - December 25, 2010 via mobile
Victor Rojas
Meh…he reminds me too much of a Joe Buck- a smartass, but rarely actually witty.
The combination of lousy Angels baseball and Rojas/Gubi forced me to switch to the radio last summer. I found I enjoyed Terry Smith and Jose Mota quite a lot.
Zaius - December 25, 2010
I've only heard Terry smith on a few times,
What would u say his style of broadcasting is?
HalosBiggestFan - December 25, 2010 via mobile
It's pretty much
Just…there. Nothing special, just a very clean, nice broadcast. And plus, everything sounds better on radio.
Figgi4life - December 25, 2010 via mobile
everything does sound better on radio...
+ 1
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - December 25, 2010
What? Are you kidding me?
Listen to Joe Buck announce a homerun and then listen to Rojas freak-the-fuck-out “CUBAN MISSLE!
#$W#$” shit-storm when an Angel launches one over the fence. My friend, there is no similarity between Buck and Rojas.BryanHarvey'sMoustache - December 25, 2010
Terry Smith is as exciting as oatmeal
But he is knowledgeable and has a sly sense of humor that I enjoy. Very professional.
Jose was actually something of a revelation to me. Much better on radio than on TV…
Zaius - December 25, 2010
Are you describing Terry Smith...
Or Vin Scully? Except for the sly sense of humor part. Mota, while better on the radio, still isn’t all that great.
halofolife - December 25, 2010
I dig Smith...
he’s the type of announcer who you can tune in and out of at will. However if you do give him the attention, you can tell the man has been around baseball for a long time, has grown to love the team he announces for and is overall very clear and smooth in his delivery.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - December 25, 2010
Not a fan of Victor Rojas
Bring Back Hud.
Dono Romantico - December 25, 2010
Rojas replaced Phyzz - Gubi replaced Hud
Play by Play and Color Analyst are two distinct jobs.
Rev Halofan - December 25, 2010
thank you for pointing that out
and I still am Not a fan of Victor Rojas and would like Hud brought back.
Dono Romantico - December 26, 2010
who'd you rather listen to?
Phys or Victor?
2pintsofbooze - December 26, 2010
But Phyz tells us about how the MFY are TEH AWESOMEST EVAH!
red floyd - December 27, 2010
I don't give a damn who calls the game, I just want to win.

Anaheim of Anaheim - December 27, 2010
Fail
I am still not a Victor Rojas fan. I guess the whole broadcasting nightmare led me to buy more tickets…. oops did I say that? I went to more games in 2010 than 2009. Blame it on Victor; shrewd marketing by Moreno and company.
