It is Veteran's Day today and we should all take a moment to realize that the simplest freedoms we take for granted exist because many men and women we will never know made the ultimate sacrifices on our behalf.

Thanks on behalf of everyone here at Halos Heaven to all of our veterans. Without you there would be victims of anarchy running in the streets instead of walking around our malls wearing teeshirts advocating anarchy.

I was the youngest Marine

at our Marine Corps Ball my second year in. That was kind of a cool experience.

HAHA, me too. I was lucky enough to meet our base General.
I had a MGySgt...

Who had been in off and on between active and reserve for over 40 years. No joke. He used to tell us stories while we were standing around in formation about bootcamp in 1963 (I think that was the year he joined) and flying around in helo’s over Vietnam. They kept trying to force him to retire and he managed to hold them off until 2007.

Needless to say he was the oldest Marine by about a decade at my first 3-4 Marine Corps Balls and pretty much everywhere else he went too.

…really, thanks for this post. I was never in the military, but I know many that joined the armed forces. I have a great deal of respect for those that served, especially those that volunteered.

My greatest respect is for those that lost their lives while in uniform. There’s nothing I have done in life that approximates THAT sacrifice. Whenever I think about it, I am just humbled beyond words. Acknowledging that it is completely underwhelming, thank you.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. Thanks to our veterans

I don’t know of many jobs that have such a wide array of possible outcomes. You could spend four years in the armed services during relatively peaceful times, or you could find yourself flung into the desert where you’re not sure who is terrified of you and who wants to kill you and everyone in between. Seriously. I don’t know if my job will be “busy” on a given day. These men and women don’t know what their lives will be like after six months.

So yeah, thanks to our veterans. You are willing to serve our country come what may.

I know we can never thank you enough for what you have sacrificed. Still, I’m glad we have the opportunity to give you our thanks.

Thank you for being brave enough to put yourself where many of the rest of us aren’t. I remind my children often of the respect that is owed to all of you for your selfless service.
