WoW
even before the game begins Matsui is the POTG. Was this by default?
eyespy - October 7, 2010
And in a Braves game to boot
~MMP~ - October 7, 2010
Lets go Stoney
eyespy - October 7, 2010
God that last game was such bullshit.
I would be lookin for ump blood if that was against us.
Wally's World - October 7, 2010
The umps are showcasing the HORRIBLE umpiring they've done all season.
Two managers tossed for jawing the ump on calls which the replays showed they had damn good reason to. And each bad call led to runs.
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
But.....
What about the human element?
halofolife - October 7, 2010
Umps are human?
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
Good point.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
Hello, Folks. So far all the teams I've rooted for have lost.
But ultimately, to be honest, I just don’t want the @$%^# Yankees in the WS.
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
me too except for the Phillies
I only cheered for them in about the 7th cause of the shutout. That was a pretty cool thing.
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
too bad. With the umpires on their team, it's going to be darn near impossible to stop them.
Wally's World - October 7, 2010
that was a good pitch
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
I'm jumpin on the Giants' bandwagon, so fuck the AL.
SenorChuckles - October 7, 2010
Lincecum is an outstanding pitcher
But doesn’t he remind you of that stereotypical stoner kid we all knew in high school who always ditched classes to smoke weed?
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
He looks like the kid from "Dazed and Confused".
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I'm getting to the point where i'm not really rooting for anybody.
I’m just hoping that the teams I loathe don’t do well. So far it ain’t working.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
Ditto. The team I WANTED in the post season didn't make it, so now I'm mainly concerned the ones I hate crash and burn.
Thank goodness the Red Sox didn’t make it. One down, at least.
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
agree
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
Isn't Aubrey a girl's name?
Just sayin’….
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
I really don't mind the Giants one way or the other these days.
But when Barry “Pumpkin Head” Bonds was on the team, I always rooted against them.
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
Let's go Giants
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Is the weather still holding in Colorado?
Or is it getting colder yet? My cousin lives in Leadville, they had flurries the other night.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
It gotten a littl cooler but it's been beautiful til now....
could change any day though.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Lincecum is just going to stike out everyone
~MMP~ - October 7, 2010
Certainly looking like it
RedHatHalo - October 7, 2010
looking forward to Lincecum/Halladay in the NLCS
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
that would be fun to watch
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
wow
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
CRAP we even have to watch the skanees in taco bell commercials
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
Anyone else watching on MLB.COM?
having a hard time getting used to the camera angles.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Hello SiR...how is life in Co Springs?
sothball - October 7, 2010
Hey there... It's okay.
Actually we are moving back to OC in a week.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Wow. Congratulations on the move back home. I bet it's changed a lot since the time you left for your mission?
sothball - October 7, 2010
yeah, it has...
pretty crazy that there are entire cities that I had never heard of that sprung up outta nowhere.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
I hope all goes well with your move back "home".
sothball - October 7, 2010
Is Colorado Springs what you mean by being 'Stuck in Romania?'
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
No, I lived in Romania for 13 years....
moved to CO a year ago, thus no SiC
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
So, saying "stuck" sounds like you didn't like it
I can’t quite imagine what it would be like to live in Romania
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
No, It was cool...
I choose the word “stuck” b/c I couldn’t see any baseball. I survived by following gameday and the HH game threads.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
I think everyone (especially those who live in the SoCal Bubble),
should try to leave the country and go see how the rest of the world lives. it will definitely change your perspective on life and make you much more giving to those who really have nothing. Romania was a really poor beat up country when I moved there back in 96. Even today the average salary is around 200 -300 buck a month. I went there to help the poor, orphans, elderly and plant a church.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Wow. Sounds like a wonderful experience
I’m envious
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
it was... even found my wife over there.
We really miss being there.. Hopefully we will be able to go back soon.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
The single best way to help people here appreciate what they have...
…is to go to foreign countries. We have so much here we just don’t sufficiently appreciate because it’s…there.
sothball - October 7, 2010
yeah, You kinda grow up thinking it's normal to have everything we have.
We are extremely rich here. We have running water, electricity, heat, AC, etc. Those are things that most of the world doesn’t have. My first year in Romania I had hot water once a week for about 2 hours.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
What I noticed...
…we have an expectation that life will simply improve…day to day, week to week, generation to generation. It’s ingrained in our culture. If that’s threatened, heads roll (political heads anyway).
That is not the case most of the world. There’s just a sense that…this is the way it was, this is how it is, and this is the way it’s going to be. A real sense of hopelessness.
sothball - October 7, 2010
I wonder, though, if the people in these other cultures
see their lives as hopeless. I think there is some sort of acceptance and even happiness – because they haven’t known any other way of life.
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Ignorance is bliss in a sense.
It’s weird looking back on my 13 year in Romania. I think people were generally happier when I first arrived. As the west crept in and they saw all that could be had the more they desired things they couldn’t grasp, making them more miserable. Even the ones that acquired fancier things became enslaved to wanting more and thus becoming greedier and unhappy.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
This is exactly what I meant.
For example, no one will ever convince me that technology and the computer has really made my life easier, but it has certainly enslaved me.
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
There are obviously great things about technology and the Internet,
and obviously it has made us a lazier more impersonal people… But we just have to take the good form it all and try to contain the bad. I guess everything is fine in moderation.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Yes, that is the key dilemma in life...
…how to want more (normal) while still appreciating what you have (not normal). Appreciating what you have needs to be taught or re-learned on a virtual daily basis.
sothball - October 7, 2010
exactly.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
very true...
Here in America so much has changed and done so rapidly in the last 100 years. We definitely expect to constantly change and grow stronger, which I think is a good thing in a way but when things get worse we tend to think that the world is coming to an end.
I guess that’s where i feel like i’ve grown stronger in the fact that I can live with little and be content. living abroad was key to me learning this.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
I havevisited Mexico on several occasions.
I have been amazed each time by the general happiness of people I have met there…even in the face of relative squalor.
Wealth does tend to spoil us. It takes hard work to appreciate our good graces.
sothball - October 7, 2010
especially the kids are content and full of joy.
They don’t all have their X-box’s or toys for that matter. They are happy just playing in the streets, kicking a rubber ball around. The kids in Romania brought me so much joy just seeing them smile.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Yes, that's when you seem to notice the effect of marketing and advertising...
…when you are around people – especially kids – that aren’t exposed to it on a daily basis. They are content to get by with what they have. They don’t get the sense that they are deficient in some way because they don’t have the latest trinket, the coolest shoes, or the designer backpack.
sothball - October 7, 2010
You know what kills me?
when my brats claim their bored. They both have cell phones, ipods, TV’s and gaming consoles. Not too mention internet access and a roof over their heads. Then you look at kids across the world or even here in the states that have little to nothing. I’ll admit it, it usually makes me feel like my kids are spoiled self-entitled jerks.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
*THEY'RE* bored.
The beer is starting to have an effect on my typing skills. ;)
halofolife - October 7, 2010
When my kids would say they were bored...
…my answer would be, “Well, boring people are boring. Are you boring?”. It worked…1 out of 10 tries.
sothball - October 7, 2010
I was always given the "You're bored"?
“Do the dishes”. Or Mow the lawn. Whatever it would take to shut me up.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I was told, "Go outside and play".
But that didn’t happen too often when I was a kid. There were lots of other kids in the neighborhood.
sothball - October 7, 2010
And not many just let their kids go out an play these days
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Yeah. Too bad.
sothball - October 7, 2010
Ship them overseas...
JK… kinda… But seriously, I see my daughter slipping into the same mentality and she is only 4. I guess it’s kinda our faults as well as parents b/c we are the same. We just need a reality check from time to time.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Reality checks never hurt, but it's inevitable
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
I can't even begin to fathom where technology will lead us
in even, say, 10 years. I’m still amazed that by flipping a switch. a light will come on, lol.
Voodoo
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
haha...
yeah and I still don’t get telephones…. I never talked on the phone til I was in 4th grade b/c it was illogical to me. Didn’t get it, so I didn’t use it. Thought it was even embarrassing to talk to someone when they weren’t present
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Voodoo? No Edison!
Seriously, this type of discussion in this manner would not have been thought of 10-12 years ago.
sothball - October 7, 2010
I know
I kind of find it all sort of overwhelming.
I want to slow down
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
I went to college in Montana.
I hadn’t been back for 30 years, until this summer. It’s not quite as Slow as I remembered, but it was definitely a change of pace from life here in SoCal.
sothball - October 7, 2010
Yep. I have family in Kansas
And one year, I went back after 15 years. Nothing had changed, except they got a WalMart
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
It 's the burden of affluence.
I understand what you mean. I have 2 kids that went through the same experiences. It’s hard work to convince them…they really don’t HAVE to have the latest trinkets.
You are battling a tsunami of advertising, friends, and others that all strongly suggest, “yes, you DO need my trinket”. There’s a reason so much money is poured into advertising.
sothball - October 7, 2010
yep, peer pressure plus the pride of life
the peoplel that are doing the marketing aren’t stupid. that’s for sure
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Did you go with family or did a job take you there?
Tell me to shut up if I’m being too nosy
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
My parents went over there too,
but we went to different cities. I went as a christian missionary. It was pretty crazy moving out for tthe first time in a foreign land. Didn’t even know the language but was forced to learn it really fast.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
What language is spoken?
Is Romanian a language? (Obviously, I’m ignorant!)
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
yeah, Romanian is the language.
It’s Latin based so it’s similar to Spanish and italian in a lot of ways, but the grammar is pretty crazy.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
What church?
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Just a non-denominational Christian church.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Thanks for sharing
Very fascinating and welcome back to OC next week!
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Thanks!!!
No problem, it’s always nice to get to know people here a little better.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
I grew up in Laguna Beach.
Moved when I was 21. I t was my first time even going on a plane or even leaving the country
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Wow!
That must have been a little scary!
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
heh... yeah I was on the plane going over the Atlantic thinking...
What the heck am I doing?
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Pat Burrell struck out at the plate.
Just not with the ladies.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I hope walking Sandoval bites the Braves in the ass.
Not that i’m really pulling for the Giants, I just don’t like Atlanta.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
Yay!
Go Giants!
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
yea I guess.....
Since Bonds isn’t on the team anymore I guess they’re ok
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
Kinda cool that they took a bunch of players that really were down and out and now they are in the playoffs..
Huff… Burell… Uh…. and Guillen…
Also saw Posey earlier this year at a AAA game.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Ok Lincecum.
Hold ’em.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
This is why I hate the NL with no DH
The DH won’t always get a hit, but there is a better shot at one.
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Except if the DH in question,
Plays for the Halos.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
It isn't DIE-az.
Where do these guys learn to pronounce Spanish?
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I thought this was the guy who actually does pronouce his name Die-az
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Yup. Your issue is with the player, not the broadcasters.
sothball - October 7, 2010
You're right sothball,
From the same people that brought us MAY-zer Izturis.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
He's a weirdo then.
I’ve lived in SoCal all my life, gone to school with a bunch of Guatemalan, Salvadoreans and Mexicans. I have never once heard the name pronounced DIE-az. Same goes for Eric SHA-vez. No, it’s CHA-vez. No SH. Sorry Lana, this ain’t aimed at you, just the idiots at TBS. ;)
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I agree it sounds weird, but
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Matthew Edward Diaz (pronounced “DYE az”) (born March 3, 1978 in Portland, Oregon) is a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Atlanta Braves. He grew up in Lakeland Florida.
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Perhaps.
But then, we don’t “correctly” pronounce lots of words from Spanish. We anglicize them. Like Los Angeles.
I don’t plan to lose sleep over the guy’s preferred name pronunciation.
sothball - October 7, 2010
Posey is a stud!
And to think that we drafted him first.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
how the heck did we lose him?
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
he didn't sign
I think he was a 50th round pick or something like that
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Nice stand up triple for Posey.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
anyone else having audio issues with TBS?
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
No, I'm OK....
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
Nope. I muted it an inning ago.
Just like during the skanks-Twins game.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
Lincecum dealin' so far.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
2 hours later they notice posey was out
ho hum, just another game ruined by the umpires
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
that wuz quick
eyespy - October 7, 2010
well
i actually logged on to see if anyone was talking about it because it’s been bothering me ever since it happened.
then they just happen to show a replay and actually say he was out.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
I've made peace with the fact that the umps,
Are going to blow a few calls during the playoffs. And most of the time it’s going to go against whatever team i’m pulling for. We can’t have replay, because every once in a while, it may go against certain teams that are favored by MLB. Of course this doesn’t stop me from fuming over said bad calls…
halofolife - October 7, 2010
the only terrible call that wasn't game altering
was the one against the yanks last night. how’s that for fair. :\
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
The ...
“IT’S A TRAP!!!” play
eyespy - October 7, 2010
and they evened it out times 20 today
when they gave berkman an extra strike and he donged
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
wait
i think he doubled, and then scored later
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
Yeah, i'm sick and tired of this BS too.
But according to Selig, you and I are in the minority. MLB officiating is okie dokie as is. No need for replay, no need for umpires being held accountable. Sucks for us fans.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
but great for the bookies
eyespy - October 7, 2010
Always bet on the MFY.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
I think the lack of accountability is the worst part.
There never seem to be any consequences
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
this game could have gone on 0-0 forever
but nooooo, a lack of replay and quality umpiring ruins it
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
But it makes for quallity airtime, and gives the talking heads something to dicuss about the game at hand
otherwise they would all be talking about the Skanks and the NFL
eyespy - October 7, 2010
oh yeah, BTW it should be tied..
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
these braves "hitters"
are terrible save for mccann tonight.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
McCann and Posey.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
"i don't believe the umpire could see the play"
replay? who needs it. btw, sorry about the whole losing game 1 braves, human error is a storied tradition
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
That's right.
Human element! Human element!
halofolife - October 7, 2010
One good thing about the steroid era
we didnt have to worry about senile egotistical umpires fucking up a 600 foot homerun to dead center.
PhiSlamma - October 7, 2010
FTW
eyespy - October 7, 2010
silver lining.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
LOL
There ya go. Bring back drugs!
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
done
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
maybe the umps need some performance enhancing drugs.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Is that Kevin Youkillus on the mound for the tomahawks?
eyespy - October 7, 2010
Ok, I'm outta here...
Gotta get the kid in bed. Take care y’all.
stuck in Romania - October 7, 2010
Take care.
sothball - October 7, 2010
Have a good one.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
hey
the 2nd base umpire in position
cool story
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
don't happen too often I hear
it is a hard game to call an all
eyespy - October 7, 2010
yeah
they should really switch to 9 umpires in the post season
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
then they would all gab during play like old ladies
eyespy - October 7, 2010
I thought Stoney's day was done?
eyespy - October 7, 2010
Is Glaus playing?
firebird81 - October 7, 2010
I thought he called Infante a Yahoo
eyespy - October 7, 2010
2nd base ump 1
everyone else 0
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
WOW
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
Is it my TV
or are the giants uniforms off white, sort of cream colored?
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
cream
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
yes they are that color - I don't know why but they are
angelsfan7 - October 7, 2010
Well, that's different.
I think they’d look better white
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
derek lee is terrible at baseball
glad we didnt get him
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - October 7, 2010
Spark it up Timmy
eyespy - October 7, 2010
Lincecum gets the K and the W.
Roll a fattie, you deserve it kid.
halofolife - October 7, 2010
So I missed the game because of softball
but saw that brutal call at 2nd. My f bomb for October coming up… Cover your eyes if you must….
FUCK YOU BUD SELIG ANY PERSON WITH SOME FUCKING COMMON SENSE WOULD HAVE INSTITUTED INSTANT REPLAY LIKE 20 FUCKING YEARS AGO. FUCK ME EVEN LITTLE LEAGUE HAS INSTANT REPLAY.
MH252525 - October 7, 2010
Fell better?
But I agree!
LanaBanana - October 7, 2010
and I even WANTED the Giants to win
but I just don’t want it being decided by umpires when we have the technology to prevent it.
MH252525 - October 7, 2010
I think the umpires have managed to blow a call in every postseason game so far.
Actually, maybe not in the Phillies/Reds one. But every other game.
~MMP~ - October 7, 2010
things would have changed overnight
if that call that went against the Yanks would have actually hurt them.
MH252525 - October 7, 2010
