FINAL SCORE IN ARLINGTON: Angels 5, Rangers 4
Good News: Angels win; Bad News: Fernando Rodney was awful
Good News: Jered Weaver leads A.L. in strikeouts, Bad News: Fernando Rodney can't throw strikes
Good News: This season is almost over, Bad News: This season is almost over.
(sorry for the weak postgame write-up, but I'm sick and I'm going to bed)

Glad to see the corpse of Juan Rivera showed up.

Michael mutha freakin Kohn!!!!
KKKohn! Rangers got Kohn’d.
Halowood - October 1, 2010
any chance
they can pull a GMJ and pay Rodney to NOT play for them next season?
I know what I’ll be wishing for this Thanksgiving when I split that wishbone
2pintsofbooze - October 1, 2010
I made that wish the day they signed him.
Doubt it ever comes true. This team likes its premium players.

Whats the magic number?

negative something?

Good news
I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Kohn and Walden. I’d like to see the Angels sign a veteran that doesn’t suck next year and use those two plus Jepsen to set up. One of those guys will be the closer in 2012.
LA Seitz - October 1, 2010
And Romine!
Best defensive play in the clutch that I’ve seen since Bengie/Frankie in Cleveland a few years ago. Just freaking awesome..
LA Seitz - October 1, 2010
Where have you been?
Looked on your blog a few times lately, but I didn’t see anything I was intrested in…..No Angels Stuff.
I agree with your last two comments.
wumbug - October 1, 2010
You have to understan
I’m very, very lazy.
LA Seitz - October 1, 2010
Actually, it's a number of things...
Work, a crappy baseball season, tons of concerts (more this year than any other), and a lot of good Angels fans who say everything I used to say before I can say it. I’m still a die hard, though.
LA Seitz - October 1, 2010
I don't see how the team can start the season with Rodney on the roster...
Oh yes I can, they traded Fuentes.
I know people want to see Walden close but it is too fast, too soon.
Man, it’s hard to imagine next year being worse but…I have a vivid imagination it seems.
RedFog - October 1, 2010
I'd rather see the young guys play and come into their own under fire.
Than watch the dead weight that occupied our roster all this season. At least these young guys play like like they want to be there. I’m lovin what I’m seeing. (mostly)
Monkeyspanked - October 1, 2010
I hear you, I'm the same way but...
…there is a lot of pressure on the closer.
I don’t want the young kid coming in and being tight, stressed, whatever and blow out his arm when he hasn’t mentally adjusted yet.
He seems to potentially have the goods, but we can’t develop our youngins’ lately to save our lives…so maybe it’s best to not overthink it and if he feels ready, go for it.
What is the worse thing that can happen? He doesn’t pan out?
Tradition!
RedFog - October 1, 2010
Meh
I wish they would just do away with assigning any one guy a particular role. Just jettison Rodney and use whoever they feel is best in a given situation. Yeah, I know, it won’t happen.
dmhead - October 2, 2010
We once had an answer for that particular hole in our roster.
But nooooooooooooooooooo….
Stirrups - October 1, 2010
This seems like it should be obvious
but I have no idea who you’re talking about.
dmhead - October 2, 2010
Well. We HAD a closer.
And even though we threw him to the wolves something like 408 times, he converted 375 of those, for a 92% success rate. But folks around here despised him when he was ours, failed year after year to recognize his worth (in 2006 and 2007 he had half as many Panthers as Hector Carrasco, one-third that of the Dallas MacPherson that played a sum total of 40 games, and the same number as Dino Ebel), celebrated when he left for the Mets, and now pretend to ignore the hole he left behind.
Meanwhile, the 2010 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Select Committee of Closers blew 17 saves. 17 wins within our grasp turned into losses, and gifted back to the Texas Rangers. With history as our guide, Frankie blows 7 of those on his own, but the Halos end up with 10 more wins on the season. And the AL West.
Stirrups - October 4, 2010
With all due respect, I believe that not all 17 of those BS became an L.
Most of them did, but not all.
red floyd - October 4, 2010
Good point. Fair enough.
We’ll just assign those outcomes to what would have happened in KRod’s blown save episodes.
Stirrups - October 4, 2010
Why is it too soon?
He looks great in the set-up role.
Rally Manatee - October 2, 2010
You know, I just can't summon up much enthusism for the upcoming baseball playoffs
At least no Red Sux . . .

Co-POTG
Juancho & Kohn? Kohn was solid and superior to Fraudney tonight
blast21dave - October 1, 2010
Show of hands.
Who else expected a Fraudney failure
[raises hand]
Let’s see… HBP, Walk, forgot to cover 3B, screwed up the pickle play… did I miss anything?
red floyd - October 1, 2010
Nope. That about covers it.
Should be awesome next year.
Raaddad - October 1, 2010
Forgot to straighten his cap.
wumbug - October 1, 2010
I always expect it.
I told my wife that was the most creative way to blow a save that I have ever seen. But then she reminded me of that game when Frankie dropped the ball as the catcher was throwing it back to him. I had to agree that that was worse. God, I love that woman.
Rally Manatee - October 2, 2010
Well, there is one more game for Fraudney to do that.
red floyd - October 2, 2010
Top 3 Offseason Transactions the Angels Need to Make
1. Release Fernando Rodney
2. Sign Carl Crawford
3. Deport Fernando Rodney

All things considered...
you just can’t say enough about that play Romine made. If that guy is safe, they win tonight.

And for the first time

Fernando Rodney = Esteban Yam II
Completely worthless, and yet…
Tonight’s comeback leaves the Angels and A’s tied, one game ahead of Detroit for the last protected pick, and “behind” the Marlins, Mets, Dodgers and Brewers. Rodney couldn’t even blow the save correctly (i.e., by actually losing the game).
jjackflash - October 1, 2010
Seriously, Just let us lose at least. If we lose the protected pick by Jaun Riveras HR, that will be just too sick.
Wally's World - October 2, 2010
I happened to catch the bottom of the ninth inning.
That bonehead Rodney play had me in stitches.
I fell asleep after that, and was sad to wake up to a victory.
I don’t understand the third “bad news” listed above. I’m thrilled this season is almost over, this is the most boring, uninspired Angels baseball I’ve seen in at least the last 10 years. Thank God the season’s almost over.

That play by Romine at third....
Panther
Funke5ive - October 2, 2010
Rodney has done wonders for my blood pressure
Is he being this awful ironically?
Teixeira Who? - October 2, 2010
Saw the replay...
Romine was AWESOME … that was some freakin’ HEADS-UP baseball right there. And NO Aybar does not make that play.
