Elvis Presely would have turned 75 today. David Bowie turns 63. Yikes!
The Poll below asks not who is most important, influential, historical etc. If you were stuck with only the complete works of one of these two artists to listen to for the rest of your life, which would you choose, David Bowie or Elvis Presley?

Ziggy by a long shot.
He dominates my car speakers.
TheAngelsAngels - January 8, 2010
PERSONALLY
I THINK IT EASIER TO WALK IN TO A BASEBALL STADIUM WEARING AN ELVIS GET UP THAN IT IS WEARING A ZIGGY STARDUST OUTFIT.
cupie - January 8, 2010
Why is there no R. Kelly option?
Higz - January 8, 2010
we are avoiding all suspicion of catering to 14-yr old hooooooooochies.
Rev Halofan - January 8, 2010
well yhen
don’t use a camcorder
Moondoggy - January 8, 2010
Because BillyMac has a monopoly on the 14 year olds.
red floyd - January 8, 2010
Today is a pretty good day to be born. Along with Elvis and Bowie, you have Stephen Hawking, Dave Eggers, Jenny Lewis and Bruce Sutter.
Mayheminthehood - January 8, 2010
Who is Jenny Lewis?
Jerry’s old lady?
Rev Halofan - January 8, 2010
Singer for Rilo KIley
Also a solo artist. Good stuff.
Red114 - January 8, 2010
*Rilo Kiley
Red114 - January 8, 2010
Better known as
that chick from the movie “The Wizard” with Fred Savage.
dmhead - January 8, 2010
Fred Savage was in a movie?
Really…
Seik1177 - January 8, 2010
Yeah, he was the sick kid in "The Princess Bride"
“Is this a KISSING book?”
red floyd - January 8, 2010

clover_black - January 8, 2010

TheAngelsColts - January 8, 2010

johnsamo
cupie - January 8, 2010
and how would you figure that?
TheAngelsColts - January 8, 2010
Read the rules to this blog little man
it says: THE ANGELS AND BASEBALL ARE THE SUBJECTS. What that means is that:
1. YOU are not the subject.
2. Also not allowed: Making every thread about YOU.
3. Also not allowed: Proudly writing how YOU don’t respect this blog enough to post using proper grammar and that we will have to deal with that.
Are you getting the hint here or will you claim to be surprised when I ban you? Don’t answer that… we are DONE talking about you.
Rev Halofan - January 8, 2010
Frankly, I think he just needs our "special"
love and patience, Rev…but I kinda sorta started this mess …It just suddenly dawned on me what the problem is here as a professional but I don’t want to write it out in this venue…
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
The King FTW
Ghost of seven in a row - January 8, 2010
The King, for sure.
As in Elvis Hitler, the greatest psychobilly band ever!
PieceOfAase - January 8, 2010
Elvis
Game, set, match.
halofan4life - January 8, 2010
If I was stuck with only Elvis for the rest of my life--
I’d have “the blues for Christmas” and every other day of the year…
I’ll take Ziggy along for the ride gladly. But I’ just a [not-so] “young American.”
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
Elvis!
rspencer - January 8, 2010
Bowie
I’ve been a huge Bowie fan since I saw him in the 80s. I’ve seen him live ~10 times or so.
Brew Angel - January 8, 2010
Sam Bowie was selected ahead of Michael Jordan in the NBA draft...
that’s all I think of when I hear “Bowie.”
Downing Rules - January 8, 2010
That's odd, because I think about knives...
red floyd - January 8, 2010
And I also remember the Alamo.
red floyd - January 8, 2010
You forgot the option
I’m 20 and don’t know who these people are.
scareduck - January 8, 2010
nice!
you made me laugh. that was funny
cupie - January 8, 2010
If they are 20
and don’t know who either of these artist are, their ears should be cut off then sewn on backwards until they learn about music
Seik1177 - January 8, 2010
Don't be ridiculous
That’d be like not knowing who Tommy Sands is. . .oh. Never mind.
rspencer - January 8, 2010
punk
I actually learned about both of these guys in a class called “HIstory of Modern American Music”. I also learned about the beatles in that class and I was introduced to one of my favorite bands: Pink Floyd. Frankly, I love Ziggy Stardust and would take Bowie over Elvis.
princeton11loveshalos - January 8, 2010
we had the history of rock and roll great class
surfpunk - January 8, 2010
Bowie was my avenue into vinyl collection.
Over the span of two Christmases between ages 11 and 12 I amassed the whole Bowie RCA catalog on vinyl, beginning in 1983 a habit I would never quite break. By age 30, I was lugging around about 5000 pieces of vinyl between residences. I learn slowly.
I still find it impossible to wear out Hunky Dory or Diamond Dogs. More than one night of adolescent angst found its soundtrack in those LPs.
Turks Teeth - January 8, 2010
BTW, why do those men have breasts.
Frankly the dudes do look like Elvis Bowie. There’s some Ziggymagical transexidelic action happenin’ in that photo.
Turks Teeth - January 8, 2010
I was wondering the same thing...
But I love the way you put it
(Is it a new Angel club: Halo Hermaphrodites?
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
sorry, my bad
those were Oriole fans I think…thank the gods
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
BOWIE
Anyone ever read the transcript for Pulp Fiction? There’s a line that didn’t make it into the movie in which Mia asks Vincent if he’s an Elvis man or a Beatles man, implying every man is one or the other. Not relevant, but this poll reminded me of it.
Oh, and Hunky Dory on a constant loop would be just fine by me.
dmhead - January 8, 2010
don't have the book
but he’s definitely an Elvis man. Mia refers to it just as they pull up at Jack Rabbit Slim’s. Yeah, I’ve seen it too many damn times.
dmhead - January 8, 2010
duh
meant to reply to Raaddad.
dmhead - January 8, 2010
still the best Tarentino film
despite “Basterds” acclaim…
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
and Vincent's answer was?
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
VINCENT: In Amsterdam, guess what they call the REPLY button?
Rev Halofan - January 8, 2010
damn...
that’s what I thought he said…
Raaddad - January 8, 2010
bowie
Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me
A straight-up racist
The sucker was simple and plain
fuck him and John Wayne
surfpunk - January 8, 2010
And fuck you
rspencer - January 8, 2010
Sorry about shooting from the hip there
but you dis Elvis AND John Wayne, you’re kinda asking for it.
rspencer - January 8, 2010
he is quoting
a song
Rev Halofan - January 8, 2010
Yep. Public Enemy, "Fight the power".
halofolife - January 8, 2010
no need to be sorry i struck a nerve
and I guess it struck a nerve,
sent a murmur through my heart,
we just haven’t got time to crack the maze,
like a magic speeding clock,
or a cancer in our cells,
a collision in the dark,
I guess it struck a nerve
surfpunk - January 8, 2010
love it
keep the lyrics comin’
(just not the Surf Punks…:)
Raaddad - January 9, 2010
Bowie and it's not even close
because he sang his own songs. Elvis simply regurgitated the works of great black artists.
blochead - January 8, 2010
agreed
surfpunk - January 8, 2010
joke's on you
HOUND DOG was written by two Jews.
Rev Halofan - January 9, 2010
shabot shalom rev
surfpunk - January 9, 2010
lol
blochead - January 10, 2010
blochead hits the nail on the proverbial head.
This may be blasphemous to lovers of the “King of Rock”, but much of Elvis’ musical brilliance came from his ability to “borrow” from the works of black R&B and jazz artists of the late 40’s and 50’s, and then re-package it for the Ozzie and Harriet crowd, the same people that thought Pat Boone sang his ass off, covering Little Richard. I’ll take Bowie over Elvis any day of the week.
