A wild game of Who Can Pitch Worse ended with the Los Angeles Angels winning that dubious contest.
John Lackey finally received some run support, as the Angels opened up a 9-2 lead in the 4th on a string of singles followed by Bobby Abreu's 2-run home run. But Lackey struggled, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings. Even so, he was still on track for the win until Darren Oliver surrendered the tying run on a wild pitch in the 6th inning.
Gary Matthews Jr. came through in the 7th with a single that scored Howie Kendrick to put the Angels ahead. But then in the 8th inning, Kurt Suzuki singled off Jason Bulger to tie the game, and then the A's broke the game open, capped by Mark Ellis' 3-run home run to put the A's out of reach.

I went with Jepsen
he was the last to blow it……….
but it was a total team effort tonight.
norcaliangelsfan - September 26, 2009
Yep,
80% of the offense was impotent — including all the 10mil+ players excluding GMJ, Oliver didn’t cover long-relief well, Jepson blew the lead, Palmer blew it again…
Just plain abysmal play.
shiftyeyedgoat - September 26, 2009
Thank god for College Football...
otherwise the Halos probably would have made the top story on SportsCenter.
Downing Rules - September 26, 2009
Lackey
and you call yourself an ace
UCIHalo - September 26, 2009
aces do have bad days sometimes.
its okay.
norcaliangelsfan - September 26, 2009
Kendrick
should get an audition higher up in the order.
vlad looks awful and tori looks hurt/awful/scared
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 26, 2009
it was much easier
to focus my disgust on the lack of offense.
clover_black - September 26, 2009
I blame everyone
Slyintine - September 26, 2009
+1
Or at least everyone who pitched…
JoseGuillenSux - September 26, 2009
Please people, agree with me that Torii needs to sit on the bench for a few days
can we agree on that?
shiftyeyedgoat - September 26, 2009
I love Torii
but I agree. He needs to rest.
rspencer - September 26, 2009
he is not a 3 hitter
the only guy on the team who looks like he should hit 3rd right now is kendrick
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 26, 2009
Pressure could fry his brain though.
Sosh has some tough decisions, that he will probably not address since its late in the season.
clover_black - September 26, 2009
Who is the BOTG?
Perhaps Bruce Willis’ character expressed it best in the TV version of ‘Die Hard With a Vengeance’ when he wore a placard that read: “I Hate Everybody”.
Fan Since 1981 - September 26, 2009
Uh...
That’d be a very different BOTG if it were the movie-version.
shiftyeyedgoat - September 26, 2009
I've always found it interesting the creativity networks use to edit movies for TV
Fan Since 1981 - September 26, 2009
Do The Right Thing was pretty hilarious to watch on cable
linkbruin - September 26, 2009
For example, The Big Lebowski
“Do you see what happens Larry, when you meet a stranger in the Alps?”

Torii Hunter
mjhsieh - September 26, 2009
Panther
is Sean O’Sullivan for being the only pitcher not to give up an earned run.
BOTG is the entire shitty bullpen.
Teixeira Who? - September 26, 2009
Just got back from the game.
Can’t believe I lasted through all 9 innings of this abortion.
Last night, no hitting. Tonight, no pitching. Hmmmm…I wonder what surprises will greet Halo fans tomorrow?
I can’t remember the last time the Angels gave a way a 7 run lead….and lost by 5!!
sothball - September 26, 2009
Where were you sitting?
And if you heard sobbing, that was me in 518.
Teixeira Who? - September 26, 2009
In T228...I think I heard sobbing from all directions.
15 runs and 18 hits to Oakland?? For real
The only thing that seems to help is Scioscia’s mantra “…turn the page…turn the page…”.
sothball - September 26, 2009
Im going to tomorrows game. T205.
This should be good.
And by good I mean a disaster.
clover_black - September 26, 2009
i'll be in 108
its gonna be HOT!!!
b0rd3rline - September 27, 2009
What a coincidence. It's supposed to be 108!
red floyd - September 27, 2009
Seriously, it's getting ridiculous.
I’ll be happily surprised if they win the division.
chairmanofthebar - September 26, 2009
Just got home from the game.
Unlike RyTea, I didn’t leave early. But I’m late because I didn’t come straight home.
Anyway.
The pitching was so horrible. I probably should have voted for Lackey because there was no excuse for him not being able to pitch late into the game while maintaining a good chunk of that lead… but the bullpen completely imploded as well. The whole staff is really BOTG.
I keep telling myself one win against Texas cuts the magic number in two. We can do this. We can do this…
AlanFalcon - September 27, 2009
Bright Spot?
im a GMJ fan(prolly one of the few) i mean the guy is stepping up i guess he one of the only bright spots from tonight i mean he did his job and like Gubi said thats prolly going to be his role come October soo yeahh…….and it kills me to say this but yeahh i agree with some of you guys Torii needs to sit for a day or two
Angels_48 - September 27, 2009
His BA is over .300 -- it's cray to me, but he's earned the right to start a few.
AlanFalcon - September 27, 2009
GMJ is our MANNY..........................(Mota).
I believe he is now four for nine when he pinch-hits with three walks (if my memory of in-game graphics serves me right). Avg. = .444 OB% = .583: impressive. His contract is ridiculous but he’s a very good fourth outfielder/pinch hitter.
hittheg - September 27, 2009
BOTG = Angels Pitching Staff
I was at the game. B F D ! You probably had a better view of this fiasco at home than I did at the yard. So, bright spots: Hitting was finally finding its way around to where it should be. The clutch hitting….well, you saw what I did. Sitll, hitting way outshined the pitching.
Pitching sucked major ass tonight. Majority of the blame is obvious. Our numero Uno sure as hell didn’t pitch like one tonight, now did he.
ANYWAYS…..Tomorrow is it for the boys as far as I’m concerned, for them to turn the corner. 4 Game Losing Streak. Phew, finally got that crap out of the way. Same goes for being fed up with the BoSox and the bullshit calls they get and us allowing it to become an excuse/distraction. Tonight will be the Halos LAST pitching meltdown, hitting will continue to gel, with some kudos going to Sosh for the lineup giggle.
Final wakeup call was tonight. Everything else is going to be Monumental from this point forward.
POSITIVE: Think of the more recent St. Louis Cardinals winning the WS after a sub-standard Sept/Oct.
NEGATIVE: Remember the last Halo collapse??
YOU DECIDE???? I’m feelin’ it, and it’s POSITIVE
Dono Romantico - September 27, 2009
POSITIVE IT IS!!!!
AlanFalcon - September 27, 2009
2006 Cards not exactly a great comparison
The Cards had an 83-79 record in large part because of second-half injuries to David Eckstein and Jim Edmonds. In June, when the team cratered, Albert Pujols missed most of the month. The Angels aren’t really getting hammered by injuries, just incompetence.
scareduck - September 27, 2009
Whenever Lackey has a not so great start, the rest of the game goes to hell in a hand basket.
This was one of those games. Saundo will get them tomorrow.
44FAN - September 27, 2009
Wake me when the playoffs are here.
This is just getting ridiculous.
angelskid2210 - September 27, 2009 via mobile
To Oliver's credit
Scioscia but him in way too early.
TheAntiSox - September 27, 2009
*put
TheAntiSox - September 27, 2009
ah........
a new day.
Another chance to get closer to the playoffs.
Life is good
norcaliangelsfan - September 27, 2009
There should be an "All of the Above" option for BOTG
that was terrible. Please win today…I want to have happy thoughts today.
