Erv's blame-panther rate is practically his Win - Loss numbers as well...
lets hope he can pull some black magic out of his ass…err…bag in the final stretch.

i gots a lil faith in him...
a little
trojanangelfan - August 9, 2009
As much shit as the Admiral had tossed his way
he’s 4-0 for the season
eyespy - August 8, 2009
Fuentes should have gotten some love on his 17 game
or something like that Save streak (savers don’t get much Panthers i.e. Frankie).
On the other hand, right now he is pitching like he did early (not well). And Jepsen is coming on. Who knows, I can’t figure Fuentes out.
vladtheimpaler - August 8, 2009
I conclude that Mike Napoli has the most panthers with no blames on the list.
This means he is the most perfect player on the team.
44FAN - August 8, 2009
He was a sterling 5 – 0 last year, as well! He is the most blameless player on the team. Get him on that mound in the late innings!!
Downing Rules - August 8, 2009
OK...
We are completely biased against pitchers:
Panther-Blame:
Pitchers: 29-33
Hitters: 38-9
Pitchers hold the blame with losses and don’t receive equal credit with wins.
Other crazy thing: that makes 109 Panthers+Blames, and I swear my Excel spreadsheets don’t lie.
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
have you seen our pitching this season???
TheTypingFiend - August 8, 2009
Yeah, Bruin, see about tallying those up for last season. I am sure it will tilt in the pitcher’s direction more positively.
Downing Rules - August 8, 2009
Is there a way of getting the old list so I can check?
No caches I’ve found so far, and I don’t see it on the site anywhere.
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
Searched “2008 blame panther” and came up with this FANPOST.
Downing Rules - August 8, 2009
I searched something similar and came up empty
You must have the magic touch.
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
You have to click the tabs in the results...
I had to make one more click on “fanposts” after the search was done.

I feel like this has been a trend for more than this year
When the Halos lose 4-0 and most hitters go 0-4, and the pitcher goes 6 innings and gives up 8 hits and 2 HRs, its easy to blame the pitcher because his suckitude was more pronounced. But a 4 run outing is not THAT atrocious, the real blame lies with the entire hitting roster for failing to score.
All I’m saying is that its easy to blame the pitchers in a loss, and if a guy hits one big hit, credit the hitter.
If the Panther system is meant to reward the player who had the one “big” moment, as the Rev. mentioned before, then it’s understandable that it favors the hitters. The fact that Jeff Mathis is 3-0 is a great example.
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
I agree with you on that one. When it gets “too close to call” I usually just let everyone else haggle over it. It seems stupid to me to argue about it.
Downing Rules - August 8, 2009
I disagree
I can’t recall any time where the bats have been shutout and we’ve still hung the blame on our pitcher.
If the bats cant bring a run across it doesn’t matter how good our pitching is, I feel like most of the people here realize that.
I guess I cold be wrong though, I haven’t looked at the stats either.
TheTypingFiend - August 8, 2009
OK results from last season...
Total games: 145 (must have been a short season)
Panthers-Blames
Pitchers:45-35
Hitters: 44-21
A little closer, but still favors the hitters.
The one thing I noticed is that the players who are only “Blames” and never “Panthers” tend to be pitchers, while the “Panthers” but not “Blames” are hitters.
Plus, Santana last year completely skewed the pitching record with his 12-2 Panther-Blame record.
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
I think something you may be missing is that there's one SPECIFIC
group of pitchers that tend to get way more blames than panthers, that being the relief corps. For instance, just tallying those who’ve only made relief appearances, (Not starter/relievers like Loux and Palmer) you get a whopping 2-15 record of panthers to blames(Shields, Fuentes, Speier, Dondo, Bulger and Jepsen, for those keeping track). Last year, the relief corps (Franky, Shields, Speier, Dondo and Oliver) went 8-15, which demonstrates that this years bullpen has been worse than last years but also shows the huge bias against relievers. Arredondo, for instance, was 10-2 with a 1.62 ERA last year and yet went 0-3 in panthers/blames.
I won’t comment on whether this is fair or not, but I wanted to show that the reason pitchers seem to get more blames stems directly from the record of the relief corps. The record of starting pitchers is much more favorable, even throwing in pure negatives like Ortega. It’s also interesting to note that by far our best reliever this year, Darren Oliver, has a 0-0 record, despite being 4-0 with a 2.76 ERA in 45.2 innings.
TheOptimist - August 8, 2009
So our official stance for relief pitchers here on HH
Dear relievers,
You won’t be the most outstanding player of the game, but please, just don’t be the worst.
Sincerely,
HH
BruinHalo - August 8, 2009
As terrible as Speier has been
It’s hard to believe he only has 3 blames.
halofolife - August 8, 2009
Hard to get blame as he's appeared in very few critical situations.
Blowout wins and blowout losses the game has already been decided when his suckitude enters the game.
Downing Rules - August 8, 2009
Yeah DR,
I know that Speier hasn’t been called upon in critical situations, because he sucks that much, but I must admit, that I have grown to detest Speier, no lead is safe when he pitches, and close games become blowouts when he’s on the mound. Speier has morphed into the baseball version of murphy’s law. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong with him pitching.
halofolife - August 9, 2009
Speier
cash for clunkers
Funke5ive - August 9, 2009
How much is a 76 Pinto worth?
Because that’s about 4 times more than Speier’s worth.
halofolife - August 9, 2009
Weaver deserves the Panther lead so far......
he’s been nails.
norcaliangelsfan - August 8, 2009
Let's give Dondo another shot
ReggieBullits - August 8, 2009
I’m new to this blog…. whats a panther… i’m guessing its the mvp, but why do u call them a panther instead of mvp?
also what do those numbers mean? and why are people who havent even played on the all blame list?
robi s - August 8, 2009
Welcome.......
Please read lore of the panther and all your questions should be answered.
norcaliangelsfan - August 8, 2009
And those guys have played, just not since early May.
red floyd - August 8, 2009
Izzy has the panther lead
he’s 4-0 and 3-0 which equals 7-0, best of the bunch
Fred Fredrix - August 8, 2009
About time Rev
