Final Score in Chicago: Angels 9, White Sox 5
The Angels salvaged their series against the White Sox with a power-laden win over the Southsiders. Sloppy pitching by starter Ervin Santana managed to yield 4 runs in 6 innings, but it was much uglier than that. Fortunately, the Comiskey/US Cellular Launching Pad reputation worked for the Angel bats who hit 4 Homeruns on their way to their 64th victory of the season.

Rounding the bases on one-swing-solo-shots for the Angels were Bobby Abreu and Vladimir Guerrero, which was to be expected, but the surprises came from an early 2-run bomb by Jeff Mathis and some late insurance from Erick Aybar. Santana gave most of an early 5-0 lead back with a 3 run bomb to Jason Nix in the 2nd and walked in a run in the 3rd, but he swished around the powerful Pale Hose lineup and was rewarded with his 4th victory of the year.

Bulger for me
That was a damn nice 2 innings of work.
Monkeyspanked - August 6, 2009
Was in a meeting so I missed the 7th and 8th.
Just looked at the box. That’s a mighty nice line for the Fat Chick.

Aha...
This is a planned attack against what I did in the second game thread! Beware my power, for it does not suffer fools gladly…
jk, all in good fun though.

They say a picture's worth a thousand words?
Make that a thousand and one. Sweet.
rosinbag42 - August 6, 2009
Haha
There was a time I used to make fun of athletes for the faces they made while playing.
Then I saw pictures of me playing hockey.
No more joking.

I remember i used to do that in rookie ball in little league
JoseGuillenSux - August 6, 2009
No post game “I jus sed F*&$ it” from Santana? Maybe Jose Mota did not interview him.
Downing Rules - August 6, 2009
Man, I wish he did.
I always look forward to Ervin’s interviews.

My boss caught me on Halo's Heaven.
And it’s only my 3rd day.
RexTookMyStash - August 6, 2009
Is he a Halos fan?
The Limey - August 6, 2009
ha, no. An A's fan of all people.
RexTookMyStash - August 6, 2009
You're screwed
The Limey - August 6, 2009
Are you screwed?
opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
ha no. He's chill. I was just surprised. He snuck up on me like a damn ninja.
RexTookMyStash - August 6, 2009
Oooh! I hate ninja bosses.
I ran my own business the last 5 years I worked. I was my own worst boss ever.
opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
BossTookYourStash?
sothball - August 6, 2009
Hahaha! I never had a stash.
I made me work overtime, and sometimes on weekends.
It was a great job in lots of ways, but I had trouble seting prices high enough to drive off the idiots. There were a few problem clients* that I tried to discourage by bidding double on their projects just so they’d go away, and then they HAD to have what I was selling, and adored everything I did for them. If I’d charged them my regular rate they would have found things to complain about.
Feh. I do not like some of the things I learned about human nature.
*word gets around, costume designers talk to each other.

We need a "watch-out boss is coming', feature on HH.
That reminds me of this conference I went to with my boss in Orlando. Let’s just say it involved an entire mini-bar and some pent up frustration.
RexTookMyStash - August 6, 2009
I'm staying in your hotel.
I have just two words for you… “Mini bar”.
red floyd - August 6, 2009

No chance to vote for Figgy?
I mean, he made a run out of thin air.
opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
Of the offensive choices...
Fangraphs rates Figgy as the lowest possible in WPA (win or loss advancement). That is if you believe in Fangraphs.

Downing Rules - August 6, 2009
Funny, I don't believe in Fangraphs.

But continued to be craptacular at the plate.
BrentSchmidt - August 6, 2009
Funny....
No more Vlad haters since he hit that absolute BOMB today. Look for a big August from him! Be there tomorrow, I’m so excited. Going to sport my fire engine red Vlad authentic jersey. Go Halos, Beat Texas!
haloak - August 6, 2009
Guarantee you that you will hear “The Boys are Back in Town” when they go to take the field.
Downing Rules - August 6, 2009
I don't think a single Angel fan hates Vlad.
On the contrary, I think we all love him, so much so that we get frustrated at his obvious decline. It happens to every ballplayer, we just don’t want to see it.
Im gonna be there Sunday and I’m STOKED that he’s back in the line-up. He can still do special things… let’s hope he’s saving the best for the for post season.
clover_black - August 6, 2009
wrong
many haters who hide on days like this or rattle of rationalizations of their hate as coming form somewhere intellectual but it is jsut jealous haterade in a cup of self-pity
Rev Halofan - August 6, 2009
Disagree
He was back only one day from the DL and 90% of people on here were ripping him and saying his power days were over.
haloak - August 6, 2009
But...
but his power days ARE over. He’ll never hit a home run again. Never. Never ever.
BruinHalo - August 6, 2009
is that after today ...
of course
eyespy - August 6, 2009
I don't hate Vlad, but I think his legs are finished and that hinders him unless he hits home runs.
It’s not his fault, but there it is.
Of course, if he hits lots of homers he won’t have to run hard.
opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
He has hit a few balls fairly hard..The error from Dye was ripped..He crushed his HR today…
He was finding his stroke before he was injured..
I do agree that his OF days are over and he needs to learn the transition to a DH….but that is one fearsome DH you have..
He deserves time to get back and start htting the ball..The hot weather should help him get loose and comfortable, and he historically is a violent august and September player
Many are just worried that taking Juan and Kendry down the lineup is going to hurt us,but I think when you stack up what Vlad is capable of doing against what they are doing, hopefully Vlad does just that…
We all win when Vlad is the RBI guy on this team.

opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
I would buy him dinner
If I were Santana.
blochead - August 6, 2009
Ha! He should have, but they're probably already at the airport.
opiejeanne - August 6, 2009
Looking at the boxscore
I wonder when the last time this late in a season, a team had four players homer and none of them be in double digits. Just strikes me as odd.
MH252525 - August 6, 2009
Thats because its all luck
eyespy - August 6, 2009
It's part of what makes baseball so unpredictable and so enjoyable.
Before we played the Twins last weekend, they played a 3 game series against the White Sox and swept them. We then played the Twins and crushed them in 3 straight games. So, you’d sort of think we’d proceed to crush the White Sox…or didn’t that seem follow logically?
Of course, there are others that could counter with statistics that could have indicated the Sox winning all 3 games (regression to the mean type statistics). And then more and more statistical arguments countering one another.
Fact is, no one knows what “statistics” will be preeminent at any given time. That’s why its fun to watch…you really never know what will happen.
sothball - August 6, 2009
But that damn Ozzie
he seems to build teams that slow/stop us every time
eyespy - August 6, 2009
Statistical anomaly?
sothball - August 6, 2009
In no way am I giving Ozzie credit for it
he must be the anti-Soth, sold his soul to something, and gets lucky with the way management gets members for the Pale Hose. They always seem to bring us down.
eyespy - August 6, 2009
Kotch just hit his first Sux HR
Its sad to see him fall to the dark-side like that.
blochead - August 6, 2009
Hopefully he hits 10 solo shots ...
and yet the Sox lose 11-10.
Downing Rules - August 6, 2009
He might get 10 HR's
In that god-forsaken ballpark, everything to RF goes out.
blochead - August 6, 2009
You can't stop the Angels.
You can only hope to contain them for a while.
Zu Long - August 6, 2009
