Angels pitching prospect Alex Torres pitched a good game, if not an outstanding one: his line was 5.2 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 3 K/4 BB. He obviously struggled a bit with baserunners, but induced 3 groundball double plays to get out of trouble. That's the advantage of being a strikeout/groundball guy - one or the other can make all of your mistakes go away.
Torres is going to get a lot of press this offseason as one of the Halos' top prospects.
Coby Smith homered, Ryan Mount and Brian Walker went 2 for 3, and Chris Gutierrez contributed a 2 run triple on the offense side. Nice win for the Travelers.

I think the club's better off converting Walden to a reliever...
especially if his arm continues to act up in a starting role like it has all season. Who knows, his stuff just might play out better coming out of the pen (ala Joe Nathan of the Twins). Just my two cents on that. On the other hand, Smith, Mendoza, Torres, and the two Trevors all look like they could be legit ML starters at some point down the road. Thank heaven (no pun intended) that the Angels FO stood pat this time around when the trade deadline finally passed…

Low 90's fastball that sometimes dips to high 80's
but with lots of movement and sink – that’s how he gets the groundballs. He has the makings of a great hook, depending on who you talk to, and a change that he’s working on. With conflicting reports on his secondary stuff, I think it’s safe to say he’s working to establish consistency. The best possible kind of pitcher is the groundball/K type.
Please see Maddux, Greg; Webb, Brandon, and Hernandez, Felix.
