When John Lackey faces his 7th batter tonight, it will be the 6,043rd regular season batter step into the box to face him in his career and he will surpass Mark Langston for sole possession of 5th place on the All Time Franchise rankings in Batters Faced. He will need to face more than 600 additional batters to best Frank Tanana's 4th place mark.

First pitch is at 5:11 PM Pacific Time... this is of course a promotion on the part of 7-11 stores in Chicago to have the Chisox games begin at the time matching their store name.
I regularly buy pints of ice cream at 7-11 - late night sweet tooth, only place open nearby, impulse purchase all the way. Ben and Jerrys, Haagen Dazs... but I swear almost ever pint they have has melted at some point and been refrozen. I am starting to wonder whether 7-11's actually buy all of their ice cream from some distressed sale. Anyway... don't buy your pint ice cream at 7-11.

Defrost cycle.
Any major refrigeration unit will likely have a defrost cycle so it doesn’t freeze over. I’m guessing whoever runs your 7-11 is too lazy to move the product for those few hours of defrosting, or just too cheap to run it cold enough to keep the product frozen.

Willits items at team store...
I saw some young lady buying a Willits jersey in the team store. I thought I heard the counter person say they were on closeout. Not joking.
Downing Rules - August 4, 2009
I wouldn't rock a Willits jersey even if I got it for free
Higz - August 4, 2009
ouch! How about a George Arias?

I have a GAME USED
Edgardo Alfonzo jersey. Still has the gum on it from the pink mothers day ribbon. Sleeveless numbah 13…
Rev Halofan - August 4, 2009
Tell me you wouldn’t be giggling your ass off if you were behind some dude on the escalator who was sporting an Alfonzo jersey
Still, I suppose ANY game-used jersey is cool to have
Higz - August 4, 2009
You use the escalators at the stadium? I’m a ramps kind of guy, myself.
Downing Rules - August 4, 2009
Escalators for up, ramps for down
Higz - August 4, 2009
That’s a decent plan. The escalators on the way out are a joke with the traffic. You almost have to be a “26-outer” (fan who stays only for 26 outs) to beat the rush. As an entire game fan, I have a little bit more respect for 26-outers than I do for the “9:30-rule” sheep (mass exodus at 9:30PM +/-10minutes and the end of an Angels at-bat).
Downing Rules - August 4, 2009
Oh, I know all about the 9:30 rule
So lame
However, if I’m headed downstairs at 9:30 it was either an early end to the game or I’m trying to wrangle a closer view of Fuentes racking up the save!
Higz - August 4, 2009
Victor Martinez ruined that chance for me the last game I attended.

I bought one and it wasn't on sale at the time.
I was going to wear it at the Bees game, but he was called up about the time I was getting on the plane.
opiejeanne - August 4, 2009
Oh, this was just three days ago ... Saturday.
You bought yours a few weeks ago, IIRC.

I love when the Angels play the ChiSox
The game is bound to be on some local sports station here in the midwest.

True Story
one of my dear friends is a manager of Champs in the OC. He didn’t get to pick which jerseys to sell. Some dude in Orlando is responsible for that. They would sell a lot of Reggie Willits t-shirts last year. Guess what, the dude in Orlando thought that would translate into the Red jerseys purchases?
Guess who has an entire wall of red Reggie Willits jerseys?
And a bonus story, he said before Bengie Molina left to Toronto, he has stopped by his store to make his regular purchases. Bengie bought an Orange work out clothes. Ironic that he’s now on the Giants.

Anyone know where I can get an Angels poncho online? I’m not having any luck finding one.

I have the same problem with the coolers that they use to chill soda.
The bottles are slightly colder than lukewarm. If htey are going to tempt me into an impulse buy on a hot day, they GOTTA turn the internal temp down another 20 degrees!!!
Stirrups - August 4, 2009
Jose Contreras will be very tough
Forget the 4-10 record. He’s been pitching well; K/9 rate of 6.8 and a FIP of 3.91. Fastball is still averaging 91.4 mph and he throws it 51.4% of the time. All that offspeed stuff messes up the Angels. In 67 innings of work against the Halos he has a 3.22 ERA, striking out 50, walking 17 and giving up only 4 HRs. Jose will be a challenge for the hitters.
Fan Since 1981 - August 4, 2009
Or
We got a guy who is going to throw a low-90s fastball 50% of the time to a team that has been hitting the ball over the fence ON THE REG.

Lackey not so thunderous?
Is this the same lackey that I stuck up for when Matt Welch said Lackey not so Thunderous and Rev and his boys jumped on me? Wow, now everyone is back on the bandwagon. Its all good, I just remember saying Lackey would be nails in the 2nd half and he also pitched well in both play off games last year vs Boston.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
88-92 wins
remember that buddy?
sound familiar
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
i do remember
So you are saying #3 and 4 is wrong? Our closer last year was better, our pen last year was better.
Our starting pitching was better last year. Saunders and Santana was by far better last year.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
i am saying 1 and 2 are wrong
and u calling out other people for past mistakes aint cool.
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
your right
so I was 50 percent right? Also, we still have to Beat out Texas, season is not over. Im still bitter over not having Halladay.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
who would u have given up for Halladay
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
good question
Well, thinking more and more, how many times do you get a chance to get or even win a World Series? Plus, we may not be able to resign Lackey, so we would have Roy next year and have an opportunity to resign him, I love how he did not want to go to Texas, as this has been the latest rumor. I really believe Roy would of helped us get over Boston in the Playoffs.
Now for your question what would I give up? We have so many infielders, and they are solid, so I would of gave up one of our infielders, one of our starters and of our two top minor leaguers.
Wood, Santana, Conger and a position player in the minors of their choice. If they did not want Santana, Id offer Saunders, If they Declined then Weaver.
Princeton who would you have given up? Would you have made the trade?
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
Isn't that what we thought when we had Teixiera
wasn’t he our solution to Boston? Well it wasn’t. I don’t think that by losing out on Halladay the Angels are not gonna be able to take care of the Red Sox.
I remember when we almost traded Santana and Aybar for Miguel Tejada. I for one was happy that didn’t happen. I would definitely not give up on any of our pitchers. Remember WTE had an abysmal regular season when he won the final game of the World Series. I would not make a deal because I believe in one thing.
We Will Win With What We Got
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
Not the same
I have to disagree, yes we all believed Tex would take us over the top. More and more, its pitching. Roy then Lackey in a 5 game, o well.
I dont believe in breaking the bank on a position player, but for a number one starter, I would. Plus I am sick of Boston dominating us in the playoffs with starting pitching.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
The prob is Ca1
They still wouldn’t have taken your offer. They would have wanted more. I don’t think they would have taken anything/trade we offered that wouldn’t have hurt us more than it helped us.
vladtheimpaler - August 4, 2009
exactly
and Ca1 would have piled more guys on for a player who only shows up every 5th day.
Rev Halofan - August 4, 2009
playoffs he would pitch twice
Rev, not about the regular season. This is about him pitching in game one and game four in a best of five series. Has nothing to do with him pitching every 5th day.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
and how'd he do agin
the Yankees today?
Rev Halofan - August 4, 2009
season
how has he done for the season? 11 wins and and a 2.68 ERA this year Rev, your confidant against the Bo Sox in a five game series this year? Especially with how erratic Saunders and Santana is this year?
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
hey am i supposed to trust Halladay in the postseason?
he’s never been there. CC Sabathia is amazing in the regular season. His 6.14 ERA is not very attractive in the postseason.
My Point: I’m not breaking the bank for Halladay. Only if the deal had been right.
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
trust
Id have more trust in Halladay then Saunders, Santana, Weaver. I think Lackey will be fine. Can you blame Roy for playing in Toronto?
With respect to Rev, I have always felt them same in regards trading for a pitcher where he only plays once every five days. But, have Boston out pitch us in the playoffs the past couple of years, it would of been nice to have a nice 1-2 punch with Weaver as our 3#. In the playoffs, its about pitching match ups usually!!!
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
you are a pussy
you are afraid of Boston. I say bring them on with one arm tied behind each of our player’s backs. You are a scared little boy, well run along little man…
Rev Halofan - August 4, 2009
12/13
Does that mean anything? 12 out of 13? Im worried about NY too and it is 2009. I know we have owned them in the play offs. Im just concerned with our pitching match ups in the play offs, hope I am wrong. I hope the ANgels play deep into Oct which has not been a trend lately.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - August 4, 2009
stop being scared damn it
face your damn fears head first. Be a man
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
#3 is wrong
i’d rather have fuentes than frankie and he has pitched really well this year and he gets the majority of his saves without allowing 2 or 3 base runners
don’t get me wrong, frankie was good but the record was just due to his huge number of opportunities, and as good as he was, my heart couldn’t take too many more outings where he would load the bases in a 1 run game
and losing (or loosing according to you) is a good thing, it opened up the #5 spot to our young pitchers

Didn’t you get the 5 points? I almost changed to Beckham, but then I saw Derek Jeter giving him props; so I backed off on that one.
Downing Rules - August 4, 2009
This is a very questionable move
“Vladimir Guerrero makes his return to the Angels lineup tonight against the White Sox as the designated hitter, batting in his customary cleanup spot between American League Player of the Month Bobby Abreu and Juan Rivera”.
From here
This makes no sense. Vlad hasn’t played in a month and now he’s going to be batting cleanup in his first game back???
Fan Since 1981 - August 4, 2009
I think they can trust him to come back and be productive
because he’s a veteran. I don’t support this decision either but I hope the plan goes well.
princeton11loveshalos - August 4, 2009
Soth self induced offensive regression.
Bring on the 10,000 fanposts in the nest few weeks complaining of this. I wonder if Ca1FORNIA ANGELS will be the first to post on this topic…..Mike Napoli in the DH position blah, blah, blah…….fewer at bats for bench players….. blah.
44FAN - August 4, 2009
I was thinking it would be a good idea to put him 6 or 7
However, since I picked him to hit the first HR of the game, I’m not too upset he’s hitting ahead of the big boppers.
