Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Oakland Athletics 1, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 9
For the sixteenth time in his career, John Lackey beat the Oakland A's. Sunday afternoon's victory was the 100th regular season win for the veteran. Lackey threw 110 pitches in 8 innings, striking out 6, allowing 5 hits with the only run allowed being unearned.
Laceky had been pitching good of late, but the bats had not seemed to line up in his favor. They got in this time.
In the 5th inning, trailing 1-0, Chone Figgins doubled home the tying run, but two batters later, Torii Hunter handed Lackey the lead with a monster 3-Run Homer, swinging at the first pitch he saw. Kendry Morales hit a 3-Run homer in the 8th for insurance, adding on his 33rd August Ribby.

Coupled with a Texas loss in Minnesota, the Angels have a 5 Game lead in the West. They were joined in the dugout by their newest teammate, Scott Kazmir, reunited with his old Devil Ray pitching coach Mike Butcher. Reports had Kaz throwing a bullpen session with Mike Napoli and camera shots during the game showed him in conversation with his likely backstop. Kazmir will take the mound for the Angels wearing jersey #22 on Wednesday in Seattle.

Lackey.
As if 8 IP with 1 R (0 ER). wasn’t enough. He gave the ’pen a much needed rest.
halofan4life - August 30, 2009
Lackey and Weaver don't trust handing their games over to the pen.
44FAN - August 30, 2009
He is our #1 work horse :D
Congratulations, Lackey for the well deserved win.

Sweet pic, reminiscent of games attended with my dad during the mid to late 80's.

Got to go with Lackey. Very nice start. Gave the BP a rest the schedule didn't

Ed@northridge - August 30, 2009
I hope if we do face boston that we will indeed be ready this time around.

This is a good sign
Lackey (8 IP, 0 ER), Weaver (6 IP, 0 ER), Saunders (5 IP, 2 ER) and Santana (6 IP, 2 ER) have all had great starts in their last outing.
Hopefully Kazmir can join that list as well.

good to see good starting pitching
lately, hopefully some of the arms in the pen can get it together so we can complete the set.

Morales' 33 RBI breaks team record for RBI in a month
Previous record was 31 by Bobby Bonds in August 1977.

Kicking butt, great win
highlandhalo - August 30, 2009
congrats to Mr. Mountain of Thunder
100 wins, all with the halos. I guess Bulger’s got some shoulder pain so that answered my shouting at the heavens in last night’s game. Also how about HK getting his avg. back up to .280. I was sure he was gonna come back because a hitter with his chops will eventually, but i was maybe expecting it next season. For him to mash like this after such a terrible start is great. Way to go halos

agreed
good to see Kendrick doing well. It seems like AAA really slapped some focus back into the guy.
semperfi1645 - August 30, 2009
Good starting and relief pitching
I could get use to that.
vladtheimpaler - August 30, 2009
I was amazed at how empty the stadium was.
I’m blaming the heat.
I was up in 509 on the $5 special.
Great game for Big John, Kowbell, and Hula Dula. Hell, even GMJ did something to prove he wasn’t totally useless.
red floyd - August 30, 2009
I was in 316 on a Stubhub $5 "special" ($10 after fees)
Someone at least got SOMETHING for their tickets. And I was one happy camper.
Downing Rules - August 30, 2009
Yay!
We toyed with the idea of the $5 specials, but it was just too hot. Drove past the stadium during the bottom of the 5th inning and there was a guy trying to sell tickets on the sidewalk.
opiejeanne - August 30, 2009
How was the club level?
Always wanted to try a 300 level seat, never got any.
red floyd - August 31, 2009
Usually on a HOT DAY...
sitting down on a seat will BURN YOUR ASS. Club level seats have cushions built-in and as such, the cushions weren’t too hot. My seats got into the shade by the 4th inning. I was on the video (I could barely make myself out) for the Hunter and Morales homers.
Club level “ain’t all that.”
As a fresh graduate from college in 1995, I ponied up and bought “cheap season seats” that were in the club level. Much cheaper than Terrace or Field ($10 per ticket or so). So, I remember a good 70+ games in 1995 from this level. Brings back some good and bad memories. In 1995, it certainly did not have the “exclusive” feeling that Club has nowadays (plus the face on these tickets are $90!! Yikes!). The common hallway area consists of nice tile flooring and the vendors have short lines and the area just seems very clean. Waiter service is also another feature. Those are really the main differences.
This visit was my first time to walk through where the “home plate club” is. That was wild inside there. Lots of empty spaces, seems like a waste of space. But it was nice to kick back inside there for a few minutes to cool off (nice AC in there). There were also some cool framed posters showing old-time Halos: Nolan Ryan “The Express” with a Southern Pacific “black widow” train locomotive on it; Don Baylor “The Groove”; Bo Belinsky with a facade of a classic movie theater. Nice little tour.
Downing Rules - August 31, 2009
Is the Home Plate Club
the one behind the RF foul pole?
red floyd - August 31, 2009
No...that's the "Knothole Club."
Home Plate Club is on the club level behind home plate. Imagine that you are on the terrace level and it is just above the team store on the terrace level. There is no “wide/outdoor” walkway, though between the left-field and right field sections on club … only a pass-through where there’s a small bar (called the “Home Plate Club”) and this big open area of nothing where I saw these mounted posters. It was bizarre.

Eager to see Ka$mir prove himself on Wednesday, has it been confirmed yet?
HALO N BRIMSTONE - August 30, 2009
y e s … confirmed, Wed @ SEA vs. Fe-Her

Was at the game
Lackey pitched very well. The best sign was he got stronger as the game went on. Bam Bam is my MVP. The dude is a monster, every time he comes up I get that HR feeling. Torrii looks like he has his stroke back and Jepsen looked good again. The stadium was empty because it was hoooooot. I was in 226 row J in the shade and it was still hot. But great game overall, sucked to split with the A’s but good ending game. Let’s kick some M’s ass!

I'm back in Berkeley after being in San Francisco all day.
Nothing beats watching Tenacious D tear it up then coming home to see that the Halos kicked some Oakland ass.
