Vladimir Guerrero 8th Angel with 1000 Hits

Wednesday afternoon's Angels victory saw a rare feat occur: Designated Hitter Vladimir Guerrero recorded his 1,000th hit as an Angel, becoming the 8th player in franchise history to accomplish this feat. The 34-year-old All Star hit a 5th inning single off of Detroit's Edwin Jackson.

We have compiled a list of the 8 Angels with a thousand hits after the page break. Before you click to see the list, try a few guesses, it is not as easy to get right as you might think.

Star-divide

Vlad is actually the 2nd player to join the 1-K-Halo Club this season, as Chone Figgins was a week ahead of him in breaking up the Gang of Six.

  1. Garret Anderson - 2,368
  2. Tim Salmon - 1,624
  3. Brian Downing - 1,588
  4. Darin Erstad - 1,505
  5. Jim Fregosi - 1,408
  6. Bobby Grich - 1,109
  7. Chone Figgins - 1,009
  8. Vladimir Guerrero - 1,000

Erstad suprised me.

Vlad, figgins, GA, Downing I all guessed

How many hits did Carew get as an Angel?

Just a guess..........

but I would say less than a thousand . :-)

I got

Downing, Salmon, GA, Erstad, Figgins, and Vlad

same

im a little young for grich and fregosi but i still should have gotten them

I'm old enough to remember them but I didn't.
My guesses were

1. GA
2. Salmon
3. Fregosi
4. Downing
5. Grich
6. Figgins
and Carew.

I actually thought about Erstad because he was here for a long time, but concluded that he couldn’t have come up with that many hits.

I got Salmon, Downing and GA. Vladdy was a gimme.
I missed

Fregosi and Figgins and got the rest. I was suprised by Figgins, I must have missed any mention of him getting to 1000 hits last week. I didn’t think he had become an everyday player long enough ago to have gotten to 1000 hits

Just shows how awesome Tim Salmon was...

If that guy had stayed healthy…who knows.

AND to think the guy never made an all-star team. Blasphemy.

Best player never to make an All Star Team

He always had terrible Aprils. His April OPS for his career was over 50 points lower than his career OPS. By the time he corrected it (his Junes through Augusts were fantastic), most people had picked their All Stars already.

still

1993, 1995 (career year by a lot, finished with OPS of 1.024, won Silver Slugger), 1997, 1998? none of these were worthy?

the guy was ROY in ’93 and finished 7th in MVP each of ’95 and ’97 (probably should have finished much higher in ’95 to be honest). he managed to only finish 14th in MVP voting in 1998, due to injury which meant less games. but most of his numbers were better than 1997, so on that level he was having a great year.

makes no real sense to me even if he was a slow starter. also, he was the first reason I ever started following the Angels, before I ever became a full-fledged Halo fan (which is another story altogether). but before Salmon, I only had a passing interest in a few of their players but never bothered to watch the team at all. still one of my favorite players of all time.

It is nothing more then a popularity contest.. How does Josh Hamilton make the team this year ???
It is just name, marketability, and the way the media pushes you to be a fan favourite..
You know,Vlad won many an all star game votes , and some years he never made the game at all..
It is too bad for Salmon,he was a great player, but in the end you should not be judged on how many popularity contests you win.

Sux to be on OF trying to get voted onto an AS team. Too many names.
I wrote about Salmon's snubs at length

Here.

That's a lot of hurt Vlad's put on many a bat & ball

Congratulations Big Daddy

Cool list

The trivia listed for August 2009 in the Angels team calendar says that Vladdy was the first Angel to reach 2000 hits in 2008. The wording seemed awkward and I immediately thought of GA and Carew, then pretty much dismissed the blurb as just plain wrong.

It did prompt my curiosity to see if I could find out what a “total hits list” would look like for all the players who ever played for the Angels, but isolate it to those only those games they played for the Angels. (Geez I hope that sentence makes sense to some of you out here!) Ultimately, I let it go since I wasn’t doing a very good job of sifting through the data up at B-R.com and MLB.com.

So please consider this is my long-winded way of saying THANKS for helping satisfy a curiosity of mine from last week!

I got

GA, Timmy, Erstad, Grich, Vlad, Figgy, and Downing… :)

7 out of 8 for me

Did not think of Figgins… had Carew in his spot.

Only 50% for me.

I almost forgot GA. Doh!

As for Big Daddy… He shatters the moon!

Still the bet Pepsi commercial IMHO

He came out to corporate HQ that year

and wsa very gracious…signed lots of memorabilia that PepsiCo auctioned off for the United Way. Got myself an autographed cheap (everybody else was going for ARod and Derek stuff)

"autographed ball"
Very Cool.

Where’s Pepsi’s HQ?

Speaking of Pepsi commercials

Who is the Angel in the final shot of the “Forever Young” Pepsi spot? Is it Jackass Guillen?

dunno...I'll check it out

I know he;s not a paid spokesperson

unless there was serious retouching, I don't think so

for a very quick glance, that’s an Angels’ uniform, but that logo only came out this year. Probably Juancho

I thought it looked like a 6 on the uni, that's why I asked.
Also speaking of...

What about that commercial (can’t remember the product) with Jeter on base getting ready to steal. If I’m not mistaken the opposing team in the commercial was the Angels. In fact, wasn’t Lackey in the commercial? Time to hit Youtube…

HA HA! It is Lackey...

Gatorade commercial…

Too bad the reality is that the Angels pretty much own the Skanks.
