Final Score in Minnesota: Angels 13, Twins 4
The Angels shelved their small ball ways and blasted 3 HRs in their final regular season game ever in the Hubert Horatio Humphrey Metrodome. Kendry Morales belted 2 Homers batting from the Right side after prospect Sean Rodriguez had given the team a three run lead early with a blast of his own to deep deep Center Field.
The run support was enough for Jered Weaver, who set a personal single game high of 11 strikeouts in a solid outing marred only by coming out for the 7th inning and adding 2 ER onto what was previously a Quality Start. But if Mike Scioscia's crew was bent on sacrificing Wins for statistics, they would not be holding the biggest lead of any American league Division.

The Angels scored 35 runs and had 52 hits in the three game series. Friday's game was actually close, being decided in the 11th inning. With an off-day tomorrow, the bullpen will be ridiculously rested and ready to go heading into a three game series with the White Sox at Comiskeylar Field on Tuesday.

WHAT WE GOT?
More Kowbell.

Yay!
We STILL don’t have a GS, though

only three Angels had RBIs in a 13 run game, strange
tanana40 - August 2, 2009
Chone has had way too many no-hit games… I mean, yeah it’s nice to see a couple walks, but shit…
BrentSchmidt - August 2, 2009
he singled in the 9th to go with two walks?

His OBP for the game was .500. I’ll take that.

OPS: .911
OPS+ 132

pre-game
add a bit to those #s.
jjackflash - August 2, 2009
Those were the numbers from
Baseball-reference.com…
But they might be pregame
Figgi4life - August 2, 2009
MLB.com also says
.911
Figgi4life - August 2, 2009
Actually
MLB now says .931
Figgi4life - August 2, 2009
Also...
Tex has 26 HR’s, K-Mo 23.
Tex has 77 RBI’s, K-Mo 69.
If we’d re-signed Tex, K-Mo likely would have been trade bait. Can anyone imagine the uproar if K-Mo had put up these numbers for another team?
sothball - August 2, 2009
Remember, too, that Teix is doing that in the world's easiest part for LH hitters
mattwelch - August 2, 2009
Was gonna vote for WTY until Kowbell hit the second dinger.
By the way, what if we wanted to vote for the haircut as POTG?

Hey Rev, pretty sure you meant “by” and not “buy” in the lil post-game recap. And what’s Comiskeylar?

I will give some credit
To the creator of the pic. It was somebody who tried to put Twinkies on a plane, and this was one of the batches that didn’t work. I say this because it was someone’s personal pic and I used it. Thank you, mystery person!

Morales making Teixeira and Kotchman COMPLETELY irrelevant
What a breakout year he’s currently having! If not for Scioscia refusing to let Kendry see lefties earlier on in the season who knows how many more HRs and RBIs he would’ve had at this point…think it’s time to lock him up at 1B for good??? I most certainly hope so!
>;-)
rosinbag42 - August 2, 2009
Oh, and about S-Rod...
I think he may have found a home on this club in the OF. He’s been looking pretty comfortable in the two games he’s been up, both offensively and defensively. Man I swear this club is just too deep for its own good, lol…
rosinbag42 - August 2, 2009
Today was the end of Robb Quinlan's starting career
Or at least, it should be.
mattwelch - August 2, 2009
Yeah, IT SHOULD.
I mean c’mon, what does Quinlan have on Morales and Rodriguez right now anyway??? Kendry’s already proven that he can handle lefties just fine as long as he gets to see them on a more consistent basis. Rodriguez has shown to be a far superior defender at every position Quinlan qualifies at and, despite not quite being the hitter for avg. Robb is, certainly projects to hit for more power than Q-Ball ever did in his entire pro-ball career. Oh, and Sean’s got the speed Scioscia’s always looking for in the type of offense he likes to put out there. If THAT ain’t three strikes on Quinlan right there, then I honestly don’t know what counts as an automatic out these days, lol…
rosinbag42 - August 2, 2009
Barring unforseen circumstances such as a trade of other players,
I had assumed it was already written in the cards that Quinlan’s Angels playing career would end after this season; He will be a free agent. However, I contend that he has been every bit the team role player that the Angels desired from day one, filling in capably at 1B, 3B, LF and RF. I doubt anyone else on the 25-man team is eager to see him replaced. If I remember correctly, Minnesota had inquired about Quinlan in the J.C. Romero trade, but Scioscia nixed that idea.
wumbug - August 3, 2009
Exactly.
I don’t get all the Q hate.
You can’t have a team full of all-stars, you need role players. Q knows what his role is, and he does it extremely well, with good humor, and without complaining.

The Twinkies suffered a TK(MO) this weekend.
Kendry “Tyon” Morales sure packs a fierce punch! I’m eager to bring on the next victims, especially the Texas Wranglers.
I’m out…

HHer's, whats going on here
This game was won with skill my friends. Where’s the luck. We can’t be winning like this. We don’t have the talent for this type of victory. The network will start talking, and we do not deserve it.

Loving me some Kendry!
He is just great, looking forward to watching him continue to mature.
Rycat512 - August 2, 2009
Is Kendry eligible for ROY?
jtkelly86 - August 2, 2009
no
and too bad…
Rev Halofan - August 2, 2009
Eligiable for MVP though.
If he keeps hitting like this, he could get it too.
Zu Long - August 2, 2009
"Eligiable"... I'm not even sure how that 'a' got in there.
Zu Long - August 2, 2009
A for Angels!
JoseGuillenSux - August 2, 2009
apparently
it’s <130 AB’s to be eligible. Sucks that he met that requirement back in 2006.
Whatever, Texas can get a ROY, we can get the DIVISION.

I can’t believe I missed the game!!!!! Weaver K’s eleven…what other cool stuff did I miss???
moosemastr - August 2, 2009
well
kendry hit two 3 run bombs as a right handed hitter. Q is worthless now. S-Rod hit a 2 run homer to deep center in the beginning as well. Q is definitely worthless
jtkelly86 - August 2, 2009
Wow...I see even S-Rod had a blast of his own.
Some offense to match that dazzling D of his?
moosemastr - August 2, 2009
Q hit 2 grand slams in one inning...nuts

Angels vs White Sox
Ervin should be sent down to Salt Lake to rework his mechanics. Sean O’Sullivan should be on the 25 man roster. The AL West Schedule favors Texas with they playing the A’s for 4 games with the Angels having an off day on Monday then slugging it out with the White Sox.
Then Texas comes in for 3 games. This year our record vs Texas is pitiful.
Ken from Greensboro, NC - August 2, 2009
Next 3 series
The next 9 games should be a good test for the Halos. The Halos are 4-11 against Texas, Chicago, and Tampa Bay so far this season. Of course, the Halos are playing their best baseball right now- I like our chances this time around.
Go Halos!!!!!!!!!!
