Final Score in Baltimore: Angels 8, Orioles 5
Would you believe me if I told you that the manager of the Baltimore Orioles intentionally walked Bobby Abreu with a man already on base in order for his pitcher to face instead one Vladimir Guerrero, wouldja?
What if I added that when this occasion arrived, it was later in the game, with the score favoring the Angels 5-3? The game was within reach, winnable for the Orioles with a few key hits at that margin... and yet the man ordered Abreu walked in the hopes that Vladimir Guerrero would make an out.
And I do have to add that Guerrero had ALREADY homered in the game. In the previous at-bat with a runner on.
Almost speechless at this, I need not editorialize on the strategies of our opponents, I hold their inadequacies to be self-evident, all glory to the Soth, Mike Scioscia, almighty and wise Soth.
Vlad's line: 2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R. Not too bad.
Ervin Santana had 5 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched, allowing 3 runs on on 7 hits and throwing 116 pitches. Arredondo had a lousy 9th, giving up a 2-Run HR to Melvin Mora which let Brian Fuentes record and out for his 34th Save.
On to Cleveland...

WE WILL WIN WITH WHAT WE GOT........
and we got VLAD!
norcaliangelsfan - August 17, 2009
The silence from the dump Vlad crowd is deafening these days!!!Decline, my ASS.
firebird81 - August 17, 2009
I never said we should dump him
I did say we should move him down in the lineup until he started hitting the ball, and he sure is hitting the crap out of the ball lately. I couldn’t be happier for Vlad and for the team, and, yes, I admit, I didn’t think we would see him playing like this again.

Don't feel bad
Vladdi reads our blog and took notice
eyespy - August 17, 2009
Im okay with resigning him to be a DH.......
and maybe playing a game in the field one a week or so………
norcaliangelsfan - August 17, 2009
Me too, even the playing in the field part as long as it's not every day.
opiejeanne - August 17, 2009
+1
JoseGuillenSux - August 17, 2009
You think he still wants to play in the field, if he resigns with us?
After coming back and getting into rightfield for the two games then returning to the DL so quick. I’m thinking he knows the Soth has Vladdi in his best interest by which type of PT Vladdi gets from now on while with the Halos.
eyespy - August 17, 2009
No
DH Full time. He got hurt last time he played RF. Its not like hes that good of a fielder anymore anyways..

Brody - August 17, 2009
Playa hate-ahs
Zu Long - August 17, 2009
Oooh! Witch hunt!
I voted for Vlad but I did consider voting for each of the other two.
opiejeanne - August 17, 2009

I love that movie, and I quote that line quite a bit.
I was very sick a couple of years ago, mostly from the meds I was on, and spent a lot of time not eating, losing hair and weight, being pale and anemic and just generally pathetic.
When mr opiejeanne would get home from work I’d greet him with bits of the “bring out your dead” routine, especially: “I’m not dead. I’m getting better. I feel happy. I think I’ll go for a walk.”
opiejeanne - August 18, 2009
People who still think Vlad is washed up
Slyintine - August 18, 2009
I never said dump Vlad either
I say sign him to an extension. He’ll always hit. DH he can be for rest of his career as far as I’m concerned. And then he can go into the HOF as an Angel.
Make it happen!

How in the name of all that's holy did Brett Tomko shut down the Yankees for 5 innings?
Zu Long - August 17, 2009
?
He forgot he was Brett Tomko?
jjackflash - August 17, 2009
This
Slyintine - August 17, 2009
Actually, I think maybe he spent the whole year with the Yankees memorizing how to pitch to his own lineup
instead of his opponent. Then the A’s pick him up off the waiver wire and who else does he face but the Yankees, whose hitting charts are by this point practically engraved on his minds eye.
Zu Long - August 17, 2009
Ex Yankee, present A'ss
The tradition of RIODS of course.

Do you work for ESPN?

I think the O's thought it a better chance Vlad would ground out/strikeout than Abreu would.
Abreu is a tough out, so I agree with the call to walk Bobby. It just did’nt happen to work out that way at all.
44FAN - August 17, 2009
Ha! I guessed that there would be two homeruns in the pregame picks, and when they walked Abreu
I turned to my husband and laughed, “Oh, now they’ve done it. Watch him hit it out of the park.”
That was one point I didn’t mind losing.
opiejeanne - August 18, 2009
Maybe Ervin is turning it around after all...
or maybe he’s just lucky?
JoseGuillenSux - August 17, 2009
lucky sounds good to me
eyespy - August 18, 2009
rrvin ate his Lucky Charms
Slyintine - August 18, 2009
Well damn. I deleted the wrong letter
Slyintine - August 18, 2009
I just watched the replay of the 7th inning on mlb
hahaha. Yeah, walk Bobby to get to Vlad.
Ya know, I think Vlad will be even better now that everyone else is jamming offensively. He has that image of the best offensive player on the team to uphold.
I like it.
vladtheimpaler - August 18, 2009
Your name is fitting for last nights game
Slyintine - August 18, 2009
Six home runs in 12 games. Not too shabby.
