My 78-year-old mother visited Angels Stadium on Tuesday for the Game. She is a hardcore Dodger fan but one of my older brothers got Field Level seats and she drove out for the game. She hated the seats (10th row in Field 109) and complained about a few things, liked a few other things, pretty much what you would get with anyone visiting the stadium, but then she paused and unleashed a rant I shall try to paraphrase here...
"The hot dog here was so much better than the Dodger Dog. I didn't even want to try it because I hardly ever eat the Dodger Dogs anymore, they just aren't that good but I couldn't decide on anything else to eat so i tried the Angel Hot Dog and it was great, it put the Dodger Dog to shame, if enough people try both they're going to look at the Dodgers like 'Who do you think you are fooling' I wish our seats had been half as good as the hot dog."

Vin Scully
Is very disappointed with your mother.

She complained about 109...?
And lol about the hot dog…

That was my exact thought.

Field section has a terribel grade, especially as she had tall people sitting in front of her – and she sees like 40 Dodger games a year from like 20 rows above Vin Scully, so it is a radical adjustment.

+1
I sat in the field seats 20 rows behind the Giants dugout for WS game1. They were awful. the pitch is so low that every guy over 6’1" obstructed view. Combine that with all the wanabes talking on their cells waving their arms trying to get their cousin sitting in the club seats to see them. I swore never again. Give me my MVP upper view behind home plate any day.
Moondoggy - August 12, 2009
what pissed me off today was.
the number of times the same group of individuals just had to keep getting in and out the row.(at dodgers stadium that hardly happened as much as at Angels Stadium)

This pisses me off to no end
Also the ushers let you come and go mid inning.

I've never sat
Upper view behind home plate…I’ve always wanted too, though.

View MVP
Lower View MVP are amazing. they’re usually around $35, but last season they had a promotion around August for one series (I want to say against Texas) where they were going for like $6.
naturally, I took advantage on the day of the game just to finally be able to sit there. no foul balls though, a little dissapointed. I’ve sat in the club seats, suites, field level, etc. which are all nice in their own right, but these are awesome. the Upper View MVP are almost equally good.
I was at that game Fuentes blew last month vs. Cleveland. Sec 227, near the concourse, which were given to me. worst seats I’ve ever had at Angel Stadium. these really need to be labeled obstructed view!! the Halos hit 3 HR back to back in that game and you really couldn’t see any of them until they finally landed in the seats.
plus it’s right in front of a smoking section and a stinky Panda Express wafting in your eyes the entire game (at one point everyone in the last 3 rows started coughing from too much wok smoke during the 1st or 2nd inning, then I decided it was ridiculous and moved).
I figured out quickly why ours seemed to be the emptiest, when comparing to the other nearby sections.

Do the ushers
Let you up there even if you don’t have tix for them?
Figgi4life - August 13, 2009 via mobile
which?
Upper View behind home plate are usually pretty full especially on the weekends. there are many season ticket holder. I went on a weekday the time I sat here, either a Tuesday or Thursday but can’t remember.
keep checking though, you might get lucky.
Brian S (brianguy) - August 13, 2009
We sat in that area on July 2. The smell was terrible after a while.
opiejeanne - August 13, 2009
I have notocied that
most ballparks ventilate into the crowd, sucks if you are asthmatic.
Rev Halofan - August 13, 2009
good to see a woman that loves the angel’s wieners

You should write headlines for The Onion, Rev.

"Easternmost in quality, westernmost in flavor" no longer?
Hot dogs are getting better at the Big A, but the real deal is the bratwurst and italian sausage at the BBQ stands outside.

With onions and peppers…
sothball - August 12, 2009
Also the BBQ grill behind the rockpile.
red floyd - August 12, 2009
Are they really that good? We almost stopped to pick them up last night, but
mr opiejeanne was wearing a set of eye-doctor dark glasses and I wanted to get him into a seat ASAP. His eyes returned to normal by the 3rd inning.
opiejeanne - August 12, 2009
Must Say...
As a very long time Angel fan, and a TRUE lover of Hot Dogs, The Dodger Dog still a bit better. Don’t hate me for this, its true!!
Hapyorange - August 13, 2009
girth
except girth is more important than overall length. sorry, but I’ve eaten both many a time (went to Dodger games exclusively growing up), and the DD is just a soggy weiner compared to the Stadium Dogs you find at Angels games.
Brian S (brianguy) - August 13, 2009
of all the wiener talk
this is the first to make me laugh.
linkbruin - August 13, 2009
A better dog and, after today's game
a team with a better record.
Which is, of course, nothing new for us over the last decade or so.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2009
not with wins though…
BrentSchmidt - August 12, 2009
Huh?
We’ve had a better record 5 of the last 7 seasons (one of those two, they had one more win than us, 2004), and have the better record this year, aiming for 6 of 8.
In that span, we have one more world series ring, 2 more playoff appearances, and 2 more division titles. One occasion, their division-winning record was NOT good enough to have beaten the SECOND PLACE WILD CARD TEAM (i.e., they won because of a shitty division, and in an ideal world would miss the playoffs. Last year, they lucked their way in, finishing with a worse record than 6 NL teams (4 of whom didn’t make the playoffs because of the misfortune of playing further east than the Dodgers), and tied for SEVENTH place. Their finish would have been good for FIFTH in the National League Central.
Over the last 7 years, the Angels have averaged BETTER than 7 wins more than the cross-town saps, 92.2, to 85.03. This year, we are again better.
So uh…in which way are we not better in ‘wins?’
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2009
They have more wins than us after play today
in the 2009 standings…
..but not for long!
Rev Halofan - August 12, 2009
Any decent fan
knows that the win column is the less significant of the two when teams have unequal games-played.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2009
Its losses that COUNT!!
Hapyorange - August 13, 2009
Have any of you...
…ever tried those HUGE hot dogs they sell at the Beach Pit BB’Q stand at the Big A? They’re a frank lover’s dream come true, but you might feel a little bit too stuffed afterwards. I’ve never understood the mythic status of Dodger Dogs? Definitely below par.
KennyKatella - August 12, 2009
They're mediocre dogs
that happen to not fit the bun.
They’re neither unique to the Dodgers, nor particularly good.
How they got the name, let alone the status, is a mystery.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2009
The All Star dogs are awesome
I gotta try the foot long Italian sausage or Brat next
Epic Dean - August 12, 2009
Rev, your mom is such a mom. Heh.
opiejeanne - August 12, 2009
the dogs are awesome no doubt...
with the onions and peppers… the BUNS… on the other hand, leave something to be desired… they seem to collapse after the first bite… maybe its just me and my stuff first, ask questions later methods of eating, but man is that a weak bun
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 12, 2009
See what happens when we got rid of the rats
Chone's Chonies - August 12, 2009
I've never liked the Dodger Dogs
They taste worse than 99 cent clearance ball franks at Vons. They are like oversizez vienna sausage. Disgusting. Seriously, people who boast about Dodger Dogs don’t know what they are talking about.
dan73962 - August 12, 2009
As a fan of the Halos, I may be biased...
But dodger dogs truly suck. I still haven’t figured out what doyer dogs are made out of, beef, chicken, pork, lamb, goat, horse or other.
halofolife - August 12, 2009
whatever they find in the Ravine that morning
trojanangelfan - August 13, 2009
And shockingly
the dogs at the Angels’ AA park in Arkansas puts both of them to shame. Pettit Jean hotdogs rock!
