Roy Halladay to the Angels
PLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Lets Go Win
Sign Halladay, mortgage the future blah blah blah.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
A nice arm we could have added but the FO ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The Rockies acquired lefty reliever Joe Beimel from the Nationals, according to Chico Harlan of the Washington Post.
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Hey Rev... could you include the recent signings.
Just so we can see all the moves on oen page.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
good idea!
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2009
Blue Jays buyers???
From Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, via Twitter: the Blue Jays acquired Double A pitcher Sean Smith from the Pirates for future considerations
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
gotta get Bell....
howiestheman - July 31, 2009
I hope Arrendondo is healthy
If we don’t make a move, he can make an impact like K-Rod did in 2002.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
We could always get some through waivers
although i have no idea how that goes
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Make a deal Tony,
WE NEED PITCHING NOW!
44FAN - July 31, 2009
Someone needs to go to Del Taco and wake Reagins up
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Maybe Reagins is only a ninja
when it comes to contract signings. Teix was a fluke.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
He got Garland
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
good point.
But that was pre-season. Maybe Stoneman is holding a golden challis and saying… NOW IS NOT THE TIME MY PROTEGE, not now.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
I'd listen.
wumbug - July 31, 2009
He also got Palmer.
Not a small thing considering where we might be without him at the moment.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
If you can get somebody cheap, do it Ninja.
Otherwise, sit pat. We’re a goddamn .600 ballclub, we don’t NEED anything.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
The Dodgers are a .618 team
and they’re trying to improve.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
That's what I'm thinking.
Look if we can get better, why the h not? We don’t need to sell the farm, but if we can pick up a missing piece, lets do it.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
What do you want to bet the Dodgers are back to being a .500 club in 2-3 years?
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
it depends on what they trade away.
Because from what I’ve heard they didn’t lose much making their trades.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Doesn't matter what they traded, it's a mindset. Something will go wrong,
they’ll have no depth to cover, and BAM. .500 ball club.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
With a WS Championship?
What would you rather have, a .500 club 2 years from now and a WS Championship in 2009? Or a .600 club for 5 years with no championship?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
ill take a trophie
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
I'd like to have a WS ring.
Even if that means the following year we suck.
i.e. 2002, then 2003.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
If you're asking whether I'd rather be the 90's Braves or the 90's Marlins, I take the Braves
every time.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Bingo
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
That's a bullshit answer
Are you saying the Angels would sell off everyone after a WS win to save cash?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
A sell-off is not the only way a champion disappears
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2009
Yeah, but comparing the Angels organization to the Marlins
Is that really close?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
I was highlighting what you're talking about giving up,
the way it happened isn’t necessarily important.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
I'm looking for where I wrote anything in this thread
about giving anything up. All I wrote was the Dodgers were a .618 team and they’re making moves.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
No need to explain
Just let it be known that the Red Sox have been very active the last 5 years and they have not suffered because of trades made
Angel Aviator - July 31, 2009
And I said they'd be back to a .500 ballclub in 2-3 years.
Do we want to recap the whole thread? Look, you’re the one who asked the question, and I answered you. I look at it as a mindset thing. You’re either in it to be a perpetual champion, or you’re not.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Agreed
Nobody mentioned dismantling.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
It's a difference in approach. Don't like that one? Fine, how bout the '00s DBacks?
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
We can do this all day
How about the 2004 Red Sox? Traded Nomar and others…I think they won something in October.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
And then 3 years later
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
And traded...oh right, NOBODY, midseason.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Okay, you win
You’ve convinced me.
The Angels shouldn’t try to improve their club.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
At the expense of what? Value for nothing is rare.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
I mean, sure, the Phillies just did it to the Indians,
but that’s like the Padres-Rangers trade a few years back. You can’t count on that kind of incompetence.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
They traded Nomar, a clubhouse cancer, for Orlando Cabrera,
a statistically worse player. And won on Roidy McRoiderton’s Game 4 9th inning HR.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
.600 for another 5 years with no more championships
I already have my Angels World Series ring. :)
Fan Since 1981 - July 31, 2009
Besides, going .600 every year gives you a hell of a lot more shots than trading
everything for a slightly better shot 1 year.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
I'm not really advocating trading away the farm.
I’m talking about adding one bullpen guy or a pitcher if we can get a deal.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Did that trade hurt the Angels for this year?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
Nope, Ninja made sure we had a good backup plan.
(Turns out it was a GREAT backup plan). Otherwise I bet he never gets Teix.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
We had no
guarantee that Morales was going to be great.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
True. But we were pretty sure he could equal what Kotch had been
giving us. And that was what Tony was banking on.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
We already saw last year that making a big trade at the deadline guarantees us jackshit.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
It did make them a better team
Just wasn’t going to help HK who hit .118 or GA who hit a solid .158 or Aybar and his robust .111
Angel Aviator - July 31, 2009
We were a better team post deadline
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
Or trying to drive up the price.
wumbug - July 31, 2009
600 club means nothing
we won 100 games last year, and could not get out of the first round. The first round is all about pitching and have two studs as your #1 and #2. Plus we need middle relief.
Ca1IFORNIA ANGELS - July 31, 2009
It's about being hot at the right time
What 1-2 punch did we have in 2002?
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
we had a great bullpen
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
Yup, that was solidified by a 19 yr old
called up in September. We may have the answer already
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
Dunno if this is true, but if it is, it's a sad day
Hearing Adam LaRoche to the Braves for Casey Kotchman. Which means…
…Casey will be a Red Sock.
/inmouthvomits
cardinalwraith - July 31, 2009
sucks for him
howiestheman - July 31, 2009
Kotchman to redsox
wtf…
mjhsieh - July 31, 2009
Yuck.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Why the fuck would the Red Sox do that?
It makes no god damn sense.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
they traded LaRouche to free 1B
for V-Mart Kotchman back-up in ATL
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Halladay
is worth it if it costs them no more than 2 guys currently on the major league roster. Plus up to 3 prospects, not all pitchers.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
ESPN said Victor Martinez is tewnty miles away from Boston.
44FAN - July 31, 2009
That's funny
I wonder if he had an idea.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Red Sox*
44FAN - July 31, 2009
LaRoche to Atlanta again?
Wonder what that means for Casey Kotchman.
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2009
Hes a back-up pinch hitter
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
See above, he's going to the Sox.
cardinalwraith - July 31, 2009
Is it confirmed?
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
theres nothing on mlbtraderumors
i dont think details are final yet but i doubt Boston wants Kotchman
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
that's what I'm thinking.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
32 Minutes Left
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Although really an hour
because so many get announced after 1 PM
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2009
ah yeah true.
Could we get one of those Nazi/Hittler front office videos again.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
that would be cool if its like 2:00
and they annouce we got Halladay and Bell…huhhhhh i can dream right
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Yeah.
but highly unlikely.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Trade on the way?
according to MLBtraderumors, both SRod and Bobby Wilson were recalled, even though there is only 1 open spot.. Maybe Wood/HK/Izzy and Mathis in a deal with SD for Heath Bell?
b0rd3rline - July 31, 2009
welcome to the discussion
Thoughts are Mathis might be hurt.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009

I kind of feel like
This is kind of like foreplay without the sex. If we don’t make a trade, its like we didn’t “finish.”
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
August 12, 1987: Doyle Alexander traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Detroit Tigers for John Smoltz.
Fan Since 1981 - July 31, 2009
best trade ever
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Doyle Alexander
Isn’t he on the World Poker Tour???
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Alexander went 9-0 for the Tigers after the trade
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
BEAST
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Two years later in 1989 he went 6-18 for the Tigers
And Detroit went 59-103 that year.
Fan Since 1981 - July 31, 2009
what did John Smoltz do??
thats right
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Yeah, but the Tigers made the play-offs by 2 games
Would they have done that without Alexander going 9-0?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
And lost to the A's in the ALCS, giving up a HOF who could have led the club for YEARS.
Oops.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Oops, Twins. Same dif.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Yeah, we saw what that did for the Braves
How many world series did Smoltz win for them?
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
1. Which makes it 1-0, by my count.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
An INFINITY % difference!
Holy Crap!
Zu Long - August 1, 2009
Lot of questions answered today
Pretty sure now we won’t be big players for Figgins or even Lackey this offseason. FO is hoarding the young guys.
Need some ninjitsu.
Wytelitning - July 31, 2009
agree 100%
We are passing on the trade deadline because we are sticking with a plan.
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2009
So do you think this means that Lackey and Figgins are gone next year?
What about Bobby Abreu.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Just because we arnt making trades doesnt me we wont resign are guys
Quinlan has to be the #1 priority though
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Probably gone too
if I had to bet.
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2009
Well, that's 6 total 1st Round or Supplemental Draft Picks
wumbug - July 31, 2009
I think
Figgins and Abreu will be resigned. Lackey is a goner.

billhune - July 31, 2009
The Reds acquired third baseman Scott Rolen, according to SI’s Jon Heyman. The next step is Rolen approving the trade.

Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez for Kendry and others?
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2009

Actually love Kendry but that would be effen awesome
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2009
Take it
highlandhalo - July 31, 2009
How about split the difference.
3 way swap. Pads, Marlins, Halos. Kendry to Marlins, Cameron Maybin to Pads, Gonzales to Angels. Add others as necessary, like Wood to SD, etc.
Slasher52 - July 31, 2009
Padres want THREE times what the Jays want for Halladay
12:26pm: A Jayson Stark source says the asking price for Gonzalez is “astronomical, three times the asking price on Halladay.”

Slasher52 - July 31, 2009

Toronto needs a 3B. We’ve got extras.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Quinlan?
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Quinlan for Halladay?
Why not?

Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
uh-oh.
No deal will be made.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
Nothing is happening for us
This sucks. We’re playing great right now, but we need pitching help for a potential playoff run. Not gonna get it done with pitching we have right now.
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
Definitely not winning the World Series with what we have.
Gonna be 07 and 08 all over again.
moosemastr - July 31, 2009
If we get hot at the right time we could win it
if the Nats got hot and some how made it to the playoffs they could win it to its all about who is hot
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
Not with a pitching staff with an ERA over 6
…especially against the Red Sox (see Angels recent Playoff history)
dannyras - July 31, 2009
if a team gets hot they can have a 2.00 or below
ERA in the playoffs its who ever gets hot
Vladd#27 - July 31, 2009
If only we could pull off another blockbuster like in 2002 to win it all!!!
Unfortunately I don’t see anybody out there as solid as Sal Fasano or Alex Ochoa

I liked Ochoa.

In years past there have been trades that took 2-3 hours to be reported.
hauldog - July 31, 2009
Oh no, the sky is falling!!!
Get a grip, folks. This is a good team as it stands and well worth going to war with. As Rev said earlier, Reagins has a plan and it involves Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez. No need to trade those guys – they will be Kendry Morales and Mike Napoli, v. 2010.
jimmuscomp - July 31, 2009
You are crazy if you think this bullpen is WS worthy. PLease God prove me wrong, but it's silly to think about Bulger or Speier pitching the 8th in any pressure filled meaningfull game.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
A G R E E !
44FAN - July 31, 2009
Who do you trade for Heath Bell?
He ain’t worth Wood and/or S-Rod.
I’ll stick with Bulger and his high K-rate and his stuff over sending a bunch of folks away. Bulger, Jepsen, Dondo (if healthy), Oliver and Fuentes are fine. Not the best we’ve had, clearly, but not awful. Let’s see how this bullpen does over the next 60 games. If they are healthy, have 1/2 year of experience in the younger guys and keep their stuff – which is very good – they could be just fine.
Remember, they can promote from within too.
Bullpen arms are expensive for little to no guarantee. You are better going with guys that are cheap and throw hard. It doesn’t pay to spend money (or prospects) on relievers. They are terribly flukey.

Yeah!

highlandhalo - July 31, 2009
We're just about clear...
I’ll be glad when I see we get clear of this thing unscathed with our players in-tact. I hate the Kotchman/Teixeira trade last year and I don’t want to see the team derailed again when they are playing so well.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
That trade was great, look who we got at first now.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
True... but I still think it derailed our season last year.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
no it was the lack of a good HK or Maicer in the playoffs
trojanangelfan - July 31, 2009
That is to me the most underrated reason we lost; no Maicer.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
True...
That did hurt us a lot in the playoffs… but I felt the team played worse overall after the trade. They just didn’t seem the same to me.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
huh?
what does that even mean?
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
I don't konw how to explain it exactly...
It seemed like Teix put up big numbers, but the team just didn’t seem to be the same. I think there weren’t any real trades for a long time, then they dumped off a guy that had basically grown up in the organization. I’m not saying that Teix wasn’t an upgrade, but I think his arrival screwed with team chemistry and hurt the team more than his extra offensive stats helped it.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
I repeat
what does that mean, “didn’t seem the same?” How do you quantify that? They won a lot of baseball games. You haven’t said anything…
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
Sorry, Jack...
I’m not a stat geek. I just watch the games and now I’m just commenting on a message board. I can’t necessarily quantify it for you. I’m just posting my observation. Take it for what it’s worth.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
nothing
again, what did you see? I’m honestly asking. Because I saw the Angels scoring more runs than the teams they were playing, on a regular basis.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
Last year they seemed more down to business after the trade
and seemed to stop enjoying playing the game. IMHO that’s what I saw.
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
Yeah... that's part of it
It’s like the trade reminding them that they weren’t a baseball family, but a business… and they better start looking out for themselves a bit. Maybe someone fails a sac bunt because they are trying to bunt for a hit instead. Little things like that.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
Hogwash
All imaginary.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
Just an opinion
can’t be hogwash. Get off the high horse
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
It's silly
because your opinion is not founded upon any kind of empirical evidence or reasoning; it’s based upon imagination.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
If there was evidence
it would be a fact and not an opinion
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
Opinions have been based on a lot less things
Give it a rest.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
There is reasoning.
Just no stats to back up the reasoning. You disagree. You have no evidence that we would have done worse with Kotchman. It’s all a guessing game. We all watch the game and take away differing opinions. To think you can pull up some stats and assume they would hold true in different circumstances is foolhardy.
This is really winding you up, though, isn’t it? Relax, man. It’s ok for us to disagree. Message boards would be awful boring if one person posted something and it was followed up by 100 posts of “yeah, that’s right”. I can only come away with new insights if people share what they think and we can disagree.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
I'm not
the one trying to make a point; you are. Of course you are entitled to your beliefs, but I’m curious what you observed that led you to those beliefs, or did you form them out of whole cloth?
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
We were both trying to make a point...
Obviously, what I saw on the field led me to those beliefs.
What you saw (whether on the field, or on the stats page, or both), led you to believe something different.
That’s basically where we are. It’s a discussion that I think has to end at us disagreeing because there is no clear numerical/scientific way to decide who’s right.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
but
what did you see? That’s what I’m asking. I haven’t said anything one way or the other. You started by saying they were “not the same.” How and why? I’m not saying I agree or disagree. Otherwise, it’s just empty commentary, the kind of thing I expect from Bill Plaschke.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
I don't know who Bill Plaschke is...
but I don’t have concrete examples. If you were with me when I was watching the games last year, I could have pointed out the things that I based my perception on. At this point, I’m watching the 2009 Angels and don’t remember most of the minutiae of last years season. I just remember seeing it and talking about it with friends last year. Sorry I don’t have good specific examples.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
Not sure if it's concrete, but here's
something interesting. Last year with Kotchman on July 29th, we were on track to win 100 games. We got Teixiera and all the improved batting he brought over Kotch and won…100 games. Would we still have made 100 with Kotch? Who knows. But it’s an interesting question. :)
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
And so we disagree.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
Sigh...
I saw that as well… but I saw it with either first baseman. After the trade, it didn’t seem like the team fought as hard when they were down and they didn’t seem to have the same chemistry.
You’ve already said my observation is worth nothing to you, so why worry about it. It’s not a stat thing… I can’t quantify it for you. Maybe, if I had a bunch of extra time, I could look through the stats and see how players may have or may have not changed and how we did in games we fell behind pre-trade and post-trade or some such thing, but I don’t have time for that.
Why don’t you just assume I’m an idiot and let it go. I’m obviously not expressing myself very well.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
I seem to recall that
even that asshole Beckett noted that we were a different team with Izzy.
red floyd - August 1, 2009
It could have, maybe Kotch would a got an X-base hit (unlike that weak as singles hitter when it counts Tex)
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
???
The team won 100 games and Teixeira was on base practically every time. No XBH, to be sure, but how did not having Kotchman “derail” the season That doesn’t make any sense at all.
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
Well, we didn't win with him, so . . .
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
We'd have won 100 games without Teix at the pace we were going.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
so?
how were they worse?
jjackflash - July 31, 2009
Who knows what happened in the alternate universe where we kept Kotch. Maybe our alternate selves are still riding the waves a WS victory.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
Sometimes you gotta roll the dice...
trojanangelfan - July 31, 2009
and other times you don't.
I know what you’re saying, but I still think we’ve got a great team without selling half of it off for a player that will likely be gone next year.
thetooth - July 31, 2009
Say what you will, that ultimately worked out well.
When it comes down to it, I trust Reagins to do what’s in the best interests of this club. Whatever he does, I believe things will work out.

Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
The reason
for the change, per a story on MLB Network last night, was for the benefit of teams playing on the west coast – i.e., they’re playing games in the final hours of the deadline, meaning they are shorthanded, whereas east coast teams could play with full rosters, then make a deal later.

He could have gotten a truckload for Halladay and came away with nothing. He’ll either have to settle for seeing a Cy Young pitcher throw for a 4th place team or take a crappy deal like the Twins got for Johan a couple years ago.
I think the Angels did the right thing by not selling the farm for Roy, but Ricciardi blew it.

moosemastr - July 31, 2009
Toronto now saying Halladay will not be moved-source ESPN News
nothing to see here, move on
tanana40 - July 31, 2009
Today
It was reported that the Marlins had swayed away from Nick Johnson, while within in hour it was com firmed that they had acquired him.
I’m done with rumors.
Almost every big deal the Ninja has pulled off came completely without rumors.
Who the hell knows anymore?
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
I heard somewhere
That the Angels and Jays are working on a late deal and that S-Rod and Bobby Wilson have been called up. Could be an injury but please… What are the odds that someone would be injured on the deadline?
So the S-Rod call up probably means any pick of the middle infielders and possibly Mathis gone? If it has anything to do with Napoli, then there better be a damn good explanation.
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
but nobody seems to have a source for the SRod and Wilson call up, it's not on the official site. so who knows?
tanana40 - July 31, 2009
OC Register
Mark Saxton
I couldn’t get the page up.
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
It's on the official site....
YenL - July 31, 2009
There is no substitute for success at the ML level. There are boatloads of guys who did great in the minors that never had success in the Bigs.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - July 31, 2009
ESPN Red Sux boners
Now they talking about how hard did they try to get Halladay
Who cares!
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2009
It's over!
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
DINGDINGDING!
Slasher52 - July 31, 2009
god this is ugly
the yankees are the only big competitor outside of us that didnt add anything, but the difference is they have the most talented team by far
kotchman going to the sux makes me sick almost as much as the lack of deals from the angels part
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
rays, rangers
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
the rays are third in that division by far
and the rangers have no chance and they know it
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
Remind me what the Cardinals did.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Matt Holliday
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009

Angel Aviator - July 31, 2009
Matt Holliday?
Seik1177 - July 31, 2009
Yeah, OK, I deserved that one. Duh.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Good response.
I like you.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
I don't claim perfection.
I merely claim that Reagins knows what he’s doing. ;)
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
bingo
If Chone Figgins was included in the deal that’s a deal-buster
highlandhalo - July 31, 2009
Not meaning to sound like the "Negativist"
But I’m not sold on Reagins yet. Too soon to tell for me.
WiHaloFan - July 31, 2009
i dont know if the rangers know they have no chance
even the mariners think they’re in this race. the al west is by no means a foregone conclusion
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
the m's are gearing up for a run next year
proven by trading away washy whose contract expires at the end of the year
the rangers in their hearts know they dont have it
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
26 players of the active Angels roster
higdog - July 31, 2009
oh shit we're badass
26 players on our active roster
JoseGuillenSux - July 31, 2009
on
higdog - July 31, 2009
Damnit!
Yup the Jays issued a statement saying that Halladay stays.
Come on!
All this for nothing?!!!
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
Yep.
Screw it, I like this team anyhow. Mediocre pitching, but leave it to Soth to get things right.
moosemastr - July 31, 2009
It'll be funny when we win the WS.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Be glad that Halladay didn't go to the Rangers or the Red Sox
Fan Since 1981 - July 31, 2009
The Red Sox made some pretty decent other moves
linkbruin - July 31, 2009
Where's an Arredondo when you need him?
Wytelitning - July 31, 2009
We's waiting in the Shadows
Like Batman. That guys is going to crush people in the post-season.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
I sure hope so
JoseGuillenSux - July 31, 2009
and waiting the batman spotlight signal
mjhsieh - July 31, 2009
I believe they're working on something with him in SL.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
Mortgage
Are the same people who wanted us to trade every under 27 player we have & all of the Bees to Toronto for Halliday, the same type of people who mortgaged a $500,000 house when they make $50K a year? It’s bad math. Just cause you want it doesn’t mean it’s wise to do it.
anaheimisnotla - July 31, 2009
I don't want to deal everyone
I just wanted another top of the line starter. And a deal involving Wood, Aybar, Saunders, and a pitching prospect surely isn’t the entire future.
We have middle infield depth.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
I liked being in first and winning without and I'll continue to like it that way
when we get our beloved ninja signed Torii Hunter back in the lineup it’ll feel like we made a trade
devildogamp - July 31, 2009
Plus Vlad was rounding back into form when he went down again.
Getting Torii and Vlad for Juice and Quinlain/Willits will do a lot.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
also when beckett outduels lackey
and then the other sux pitchers blow away the rest of our guys (look at weav’s stats, he declines in the 2nd half of the year each year and is doing it again) while they have as good of a lineup as us, it will feel like we made a huge trade
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
Beckett ain't out-dueling Lackey this year.
Fact. Count on it.
highlandhalo - July 31, 2009
twice?
i can see him matching and maybe out-dueling him once in a series
but i consider it a great day to get 3 off beckett in 7 innings
ill eat my hat if im wrong, but i just dont see lackey outdoing beckett twice, and even if he did their bullpen owns theirs
it will take a lot of magic and or luck to win both of the matchups between the aces
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
If I remember correctly
It was freakin Lester who was killing us.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
it was both
and we still dont have a #2 starter while the sux have 2 guys that are arguable better than our #1
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
Napoli with two bombs won the game off Beckett
it was lester who was killing us check it out
devildogamp - July 31, 2009
thats my bad
i swear i remember him killing us tho, did he in the past?
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
We'll just throw out Matt Palmer and his invincible run support.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
there you go.
That’s a winning move.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
its more comfortable than having saunders throw
JoseGuillenSux - July 31, 2009
you know maybe this seems familiar to me
because isn’t this what 2002 looked like when we were known for comeback wins and the dramatic which just drains opposing teams confidence………. just a thought
devildogamp - July 31, 2009
The difference is the last 2 years we got to the postseason and couldn't score, period.
This year might be the same, but I’m thinking with the O we’ve had the last 2 months, it won’t be.
TheOptimist - July 31, 2009
We could still have a trade coming
Something that hasn’t been reported yet.
Poor Halladay. That guy has gone through so much crap lately, its a miracle he hasn’t gone completely nuts yet.
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
He did, look at his last start in Seattle.
44FAN - July 31, 2009
Seriously
If he shoots up the front office before his next start, I’d probably understand haha
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2009
im so tired of hearing the analysts croon over halladay
they are still saying the phils and sux should have gotten him but they arent facing the facts
1.) jp was ridiculous in his asking price
2.)the phils stole lee without really giving anything
3.)pitching has never been the problem for the sux, they needed hitting and they got it
sctrojan13 - July 31, 2009
but getting Halladay
means never having to face him.
Jay Cal - July 31, 2009
son of a joto
i hate the red sux
JoseGuillenSux - July 31, 2009
Can't believe
Kotch is over there
Figgi4life - July 31, 2009 via mobile
Reagins on am 830 right now 3:20pm
figgifig - July 31, 2009
There's a sale on Kleenex at Stater Bros, everyone...
jeez, you think we just got eliminated and the season is over today, judging by some of the posts here.
THIS WAS THE TRADING DEADLINE. There are 62 games and and entire set of playoff games still to be played.
While I would have like to have a Roy Halladay or a Heath Bell or BOTH, you have to give Soth and Reagins the benefit of the doubt. They had all the information on the table right in front of them and they know a lot more than we do about what it was going to take to get Bell or Halladay. So, STFU with the whining.
