Late-game bullpen help could be on the way for the Angels in a familiar form. Jose Arredondo might be ready to put himself back in position to fulfill one of the setup roles in front of closer Brian Fuentes.

"Arredondo had what we heard was the best stuff he's had this year -- 94 [mph], good slider, good split," Scioscia said. "He had real good stuff. It looked like Jose took a step forward. That's encouraging."

Aybar appeared to be kicked or kneed in the head by A's SS Orlando Cabrera as Aybar slid into second base and tried to break up a double play. Before leaving the game, Aybar extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single. He has hits in 14 of his past 16 games and 15 hits in his past 25 at-bats, raising his average for the season to .302.

I know basketball is his game, and I could play the game in my time. To be there with my teammates, after winning a World Series, that would top meeting Barack Obama at the All-Star Game. That would be so cool, for all of us. So I'm looking at it as an added incentive to go out and win a World Series. That would be the best of both worlds. We win the World Series, and meet Barack Obama at the White House.
