$5.00 or 20%, whichever is higher (usually higher)....
…unless they are late, which rarely happens. Then I ask why the delay? If their excuse is plausible, then I still give the tip.
If the excuse is not plausible, they get $1.00 (that has only happened 2-3 times).
Says the “average” tip is $5 and the “average” order is about $30
Kobe always tips $10 and his order is about $50
Best delivery deals are birthday parties and businesses in office parks where tips avg $25-30 on multiple pizza orders…………so, for the benefit of the delv’y boys, order from work!
But I want to participate anyway because they’ve got me doing tedious crap at work today and I’m bored and the minutes are just crawling by. So I’ll tell you about my weekend.
Working from 7 till 5 today – a change from my usual schedule of 5 to 3 – then picking up dry cleaning for Saturday. Tonight we’ll be visiting our weird friend Joel for his birthday. Unfortunately the venue is at Alan’s house, and Alan’s place is kind of a filth pit saturated with cigarette butts and carpet stains from bottles of hooch with names like “Old One-Eyed Racist” or something. I left that kind of depravity, along with the chain-smoking, behind when I was a teenager. But what can I do? They’re our friends.
Then on Saturday I watch my girlfriend graduate – again – this time with her doctorate from UCI. Apparently the ceremony involves getting hooded. She’s a molecular biologist. She’s scary smart. No, I really have no idea what she’s doing with me. Hopefully she’ll never catch on to just how dumb I am. Three years and she hasn’t caught on.
On Sunday we’ve got a big Gothball game in Los Alamitos. I’ve told eveyrone that it’s “dress-up day” so that they’ll put more effort into their appearance because I’ll have a high-end video camera in order to capture footage for this indie film I’ve been shooting for three years now (don’t ask).
I read a long post on here. Very interesting, I always wonder to myself what my girlfriend is doing with me too. But hey some of us are just lucky like that. But maybe you should be bored at work more often awesome post.
my average tip tends to be 2-3 dollars. I wish I delivered in y’alls neighborhoods. You are all very generous. I don’t usually complain about a low tip, just when I get a no tip, or “stiff” to use industry parlance. That’s not out of a sense of entitlement, I’m just really courteous, and fast to boot (toot toot).
though thinking about some of the shining stars I work with, some of whom would have trouble finding their asses with their thumb and two mirrors, maybe they should employ some sort of ranking system.
…I live in England – there’s not the tipping culture here that there is in the US, no-one tips the pizza delivery guy unless you’re stoned (and therefore incredibly grateful). Never work in a bar or restaurant here…
Most people I delivered to averaged $1-$2 a pie. Sure there were the dudes trying to flash the cash for their gals and would tip like $10 on a $20 order. But that was far and few between. I had one guy who wouldn’t tip… EVER!
I was happy if I got a buck per pie. My day would be made if I got more. I usually do $2 per pie.
Downing Rules’ claim to fame: Delivered pizza to Mike Scioscia — worked at an Italian Restaurant that catered to North Ranch in Westlake Village… Also delivered to Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear, but that wasn’t nearly as cool as delivering to Scioscia.
$2 or $3 bucks...usually unless big order
Monkeyspanked - June 5, 2009
I tip $5
Unless they give me some reason to tip less.

5 Dollars. Maybe more if more pizza.
Im going to get some pizza now. Thanks Rev.
WillGoAngels27 - June 5, 2009
20 - 25%
Depends on my mood that day. Also depends on the total. Sometimes it will be more because I’ll tell the guy to keep whatever I give him.
billhune - June 5, 2009
nothing
Don’t order pizza….there aren’t any good pizza places close by, so I make my own
ladybug - June 5, 2009
5 bucks. Going rate.
Pretty damned good considering I could walk to the pizzeria from my house.
Stirrups - June 5, 2009
ok, maybe I am a cheap bastard
Higz - June 5, 2009
: ) !!!
Stirrups - June 5, 2009
2 bucks and not because I'm a cheap bastard
but because the pizza joint is like 1/4 mile away from my house
Higz - June 5, 2009
lazy ass…why not walk and pick it up????
:)
J/K…
Me, too, mine’s like 300 feet from the Pizza place. I give $3 or $4.
Downing Rules - June 6, 2009
$3
But lately I’ve been making my own with sharp cheddar and sliced green olives. SO GOOD.
chairmanofthebar - June 5, 2009
Was $3-4 when I lived in CA, where delivery rates were a foreign concept.
On the east coast they tack that on automatically. Jerks. No soup for them.
Captain Awesome - June 5, 2009
Delivery fees do exist here
around $2.50, still have to tip the guy though, especially if they’re on time and courteous.
swiss mcgee - June 5, 2009
What is this world coming to
Captain Awesome - June 5, 2009
2 bucks.
Might go to 1 if i keep on getting the stink eye.
clover_black - June 5, 2009
People often mistake the delivery charge for a built-in tip
but, if you are ordering from Domino’s get this:
Memphis BBQ pizza:
Brooklyn style
Light Sauce
Extra Chicken
Extra Pineapple
The best pizza in the world…. well, the best pizza from Domino’s….

What do you call a drummer without a girlfriend?
Homeless!
reddawnman - June 5, 2009
You must be one very, very clever guy.
Either that, or your brilliant girlfriend did her thesis paper concerning recombinant DNA using you as her subject…
Stirrups - June 5, 2009
Heh heh...
… wait… She wouldn’t…
… Would she?
… I mean, I’ve been wondering for a while where this third arm came from, but…

As a Domino's Delivery Expert in the IE
my average tip tends to be 2-3 dollars. I wish I delivered in y’alls neighborhoods. You are all very generous. Dominos has Delivery "Experts"?
Is there some lower class of Delivery guy, such as “Associate”? And then even lower, such as “Night Manager” or “Vice President”?
Stirrups - June 5, 2009
Ha. I use my official title in jest
though thinking about some of the shining stars I work with, some of whom would have trouble finding their asses with their thumb and two mirrors, maybe they should employ some sort of ranking system.

damn straight
most of the people who deliver pizza to me probably earn more than i do, and i had to get a degree to do my job!
Unless it’s the really cute guy from Dominos, he gets whatever he wants
AmyAngel - June 5, 2009
With an offer like that, every single guy here is now going to get a night job delivering pizzas!
Stirrups - June 5, 2009
$3
as a general rule. I almost never get pizza delivered because I can go and pick it up more quickly than it can be delivered, most of the time.
jjackflash - June 5, 2009
$5 but I don't order pizza
Pizza here is generally a joke. Only pizza I get is z-pizza in OC, Bronx Pizza on University ave in San Diego or Besta-Wan in Cardiff by-the-sea.
reddawnman - June 5, 2009
couple bucks... $3-5
