Final Score in Arlington of Dallas: Angels 5, Rangers 2
Back to back homeruns by Juan Rivera and Kendry Morales highlighted a 4-Run 6th inning and a quality pitching performance by 21-year old rookie Sean O'Sullivan was good enough for the W as the Angels put some more distance in between them and the 2nd place Texas Rangers.
O'Sullivan got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first inning with a strikeout of Ranger DH Julio Borbon in his first major league plate appearance. The only blemish on an Artic cruise thru the Icy Popsicle Ranger bats were back-to-back solo homers off of two Rangers. There is probably some dude looking up the last time both teams hit back-to-backers in the same game, but who cares, really, the Angels won in front of 20,000 turd-blossom-loving Texans. Eat that for lunch with your Modern Urban Country Hits station playing in the background.
The Angels are now 10 games over .500 for the first time this season and have won 6 straight games and 13 of 16 since sending Howie Kendrick back to the minors leagues.
The rust of resting in a National League West schedule didn't need much shaking off in an American League park as the Halos banged out 12 hits. Every starter but Chone Figgins had at least one hit and Figgy had a deep sacrifice fly to score a run. Darren Oliver and Justin Speier pitched scoreless innings of relief, as did closer Brian Fuentes, picking up his major league leading 22nd save in the process.

Yeah...I loathe drunk drivers. They create such chaos.
Like many others, I still ask…why?
sothball - June 29, 2009
Light up that Halo!
HaloDutch - June 29, 2009
I think it has to go to Sully
I mean our best starters go into Texas sometimes and get LIT. Sean went in and did more than could be expected of a 21 year old. We are so spoiled when it comes to starting pitchers guys, most teams would kill for a rookie pitcher to come into Texas and pitch like that.
MH252525 - June 29, 2009
well to be fair Chad Gaudin and his over 5 ERA.......one hit this same team yesterday.

that is why I love Angels Fans… always have big crowds at the games… last wednesday against the rockies I was at the game amongst 40,000+ fans! on a wednesday night!

'Twas funny watching Eddie Gordito throw a tantrum in the dugout.

CA HR - June 29, 2009
And there is no way we leave Texas NOT in 1st place!
Stirrups - June 29, 2009
Easy
Take it easy with the “texas turds”…. I now live in Dallas, after moving from orange county, and have been to all of the games so far, since we’ve been in town. I’ll be there tomorrow night hoping for another W.
Surprisingly there are a few Angel fans there to high five and chat with…. Although I did go for the Dodgers vs. Rangers (20 times more Dodgers fans). Wonder why?
SMUangelFan - June 30, 2009
turd blossom
totally different than a turd… see that is how you let ‘em know you are a transplant… although opening one’s mouth and saying “Dude” can do that as well…
Rev Halofan - June 30, 2009
O'Sullivan and Morales co-Panthers.......
Morales with 2 more extra base hits and the O’Kid with another GREAT outing. That his his new nickname from me “The O’Kid”
acuda27 - June 30, 2009
*that IS his new nickname......my bad!
acuda27 - June 30, 2009
1. You can't vote for co-panthers
2. Your obvious bias towards K.M. precludes you from voting for him :)
P.S. I know you are just waiting for the moment to tell everyone “Casey who?”
vladtheimpaler - June 30, 2009
Good win. But it's still early.
A review on where the Angels stood on June 29th in past seasons.
1984
40-37, 1st place, 2 game lead (finished season in 2nd)
1985
41-31, 1st place, 3 game lead (finished season in 2nd)
1998
48-32, 1st place, 2.5 game lead (finished seaon in 2nd)
Nice to be in 1st, but there is still a long way to go.
Fan Since 1981 - June 30, 2009
Killjoy.
opiejeanne - June 30, 2009
I'm overly cautious
After witnessing the debacles of 82, 85, 86, 89, etc, etc, etc, I am rather guarded over celebrating too soon. I still worry watching the replay of Erstad catching the final out in Game 7. One of these days he’s going to drop it. ;)

Heh. You're like my husband in that area.
