Lose the Battle, Win the War: Ian Kinsler was batting .314 when John Lackey plunked him to lead off the game on May 16. He is batting under .270 now.
Three games in Arlington are here for the Angels, red-hot winners of 5 straight, 12-3 over their past 15 games. The Rangers are ice cold. The Freeze Girls just got their nuts handed to them by Chad Gaudin, who became the first pitcher in history to throw 8 innings of 1-hit ball in the Rangers home stadium that changes names every year as owner Tom Hicks pimps it out for money to send to Liverpool.
When we faced Gaudin on June 12, he did not make it out of the 4th inning, allowing 8 Angel runs on 10 hits! From 10 hits in 3+ to 1 hit in 8 at the launching pad that is Arlington? Can you say Padres hot? Don't because it is really just Rangers?
Perhaps after this series we will be calling them the Arlington Popsicles.
So here goes...
TONIGHT: 5:05 PM, Sean O'Sullivan Vs. Vicente Padilla
This is the one they have the best chance of winning. O'Sullivan's chances rest on his changeup fooling them, so maybe he can continue the Gaudin-like ass-kickery of the Rangers that seems to be contagious among baseball's pitchers of late. Padilla kinda owns us and that is tough as hell to type.
TUESDAY: 5:05 PM, Joe Saunders Vs. Scott Feldman
Feldman held us scoreless over 6 innings earlier this season. No gifts here, but Joe Saunders has been improving over his past few games, hasn't he? Hmmm... let me go check ...oh crud, as good as he has been doing, the worst ballpark for Saundo is the Arlington Crapper where his career ERA is over 10... ouch... Hope those Popsicles have not melted yet...
WEDNESDAY: 5:05 PM, Jered Weaver Vs. Kevin Millwood
Millwood will likely be the only Ranger in the All Star Game if Josh Hamilton's hernia flares up. Weaver should be there as well. They can be teammates for a day in St. Louis. Weaver was terrible against the Dodgers but looked amazing against the Diamondbacks on Friday. And before you dismiss the National League as incomparable to the AL, The weak ass NL Padres just took two out of three from the Rangers.

Vicente Padilla bean-ball pitches: 1.5
I say OVER and he will not get thrown out.
Downing Rules - June 29, 2009
You're probably right that he won't get thrown out.
but the umps will warn the Angels.
opiejeanne - June 29, 2009
Angels don't get warnings.
Lackey didn’t
halofan4life - June 29, 2009
You're right about that
opiejeanne - June 29, 2009
I still say that the best defense against the Padilla's of the world
is to have a solid reputation for losing one’s grip on the bat at random moments.

Kinsler will be in the all star game
Fred Fredrix - June 29, 2009
Mish Mash
Kinsler’s not deserving of such recognition, however Torii is. Heck, even Droopy Pedroia is more deserving.
CA HR - June 29, 2009
Uh, Kinsler is by far the best second basemen in the AL
What are you smoking?
PhiSlamma - June 29, 2009
Aaron Hill from the Blue Jays
is better.
princeton11loveshalos - June 29, 2009
Uhhhhh No.
deejayelleseven - June 29, 2009
um have u looked at the stats
Aaron Hill is batting .302/.344/.512 with 19 HR and 56 RBIs
Ian Kinsler is batting .268/.347/.520 with 18 HR and 50 RBIs
difference
Aaron Hill plays in Toronto therefore no one has heard of him
princeton11loveshalos - June 29, 2009
Dead On
Let’s not forget that Aaron Hill plays in a true baseball stadium, not a minor league park like Arlington.
CA HR - June 29, 2009
Toronto isn't exactly a pitchers park
Is it now?
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
it actually is more of a pitchers park
than angel stadium
rank Runs
9 Rangers Ballpark in Arlington (Arlington, Texas) 1.091
15 Angel Stadium of Anaheim (Anaheim, California) 0.994
16 Rogers Centre (Toronto, Ontario) 0.969
while its not exactly a pitchers park, its better than Rangers Ballpark
princeton11loveshalos - June 29, 2009
Here we go!!
Can’t wait to beat down these fake Rangers..After listening to the Baseball Report on the Sports Lodge this morning I can’t believe there are still people that believe the Rangers are for real… Their pitching is breaking down and the bats are cooling off.. They lose 2 out of 3 to the sorry Padres!! We are catching the Rangers at the perfect time… Looking to go up 4.5 games after this series!! Go Angels!!
Halo_Fan47 - June 29, 2009
I can't believe there are people who actually think the Angels are for real....
Just b/c they beat 3 minor league teams in a row and have 6 high school equivalent relievers out in the bullpen.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
apprently you havent looked at the best record in baseball and two very solid wc contenders
that all reside in the nl west. but hey, with the rangers shitty interleague record, what does that say about the rangers?
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
What ????? Two very solid WC contenders?
I don’t get it. And the Angels have the best record in baseball??? That’s news to me.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
ummm
when did the angels begin play in the nl west? news to me
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
Not sure.....
what the EFF you’re talking about.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
you refrenced that the angels just beat 3 minor league teams in a row
taking a jab at the nl west. the nl west is not as bad as last year. the dodgers have the best record in baseball, and the rockies and giants are legitimate wc contenders….what’s so hard to understand there….
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
Legit wild card contenders????
Really? So you think that come September, the Rockies and Giants will be right there with the runner up in the NL Central and NL East??? Would you like to place a bet on that?
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
have you looked the nl east lately?
jesus christ. the phillies can’t win at home and the mets are falling apart…care to place a bet that their non-division winner will win the wc? and nl central has no separation b/w most of their teams which will only result in 3/4 contenders just beating up on each other. so yes, the rockies or the giants will win the wc…
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
Awesome, so let's bet
The Giants and Rockies both SUCK.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
right
thats the proof i was looking for…
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
The Giants swept the Rangers
The Dodgers took 2 of 3
The DBacks went 1-2
The Padres freaking beat the Rangers 2 of 3.
It seems the only team the pretender Rangers can beat is the freaking Astros. Ed Wade runs that team, need I say more?
What makes you think this ISN’T the year that the Rangers start their annual fade into irrelevance?
hauldog - July 1, 2009
Didnt you just drop 2 of 3 to one of those "minor league teams"
PhiSlamma - June 29, 2009
That's correct.
I’m not saying that Texas is great, far from it. Just tired of listening to Angels fans act like they’ve got this series wrapped up b/c they just put a hurting on the NL West.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Well, then
go away.
rspencer - June 29, 2009

By the way….the Angels aren’t very good.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Angels Homer
and who would ever have thought that an Angels homer would be on an Angels blog…….
Rev Halofan - June 29, 2009
You can be an Angels homer, but let's put things into perspective.
The Angels aren’t very good.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
good point
you supplied such a mountain of evidence to back that up that I cannot add further to your statement.
Rev Halofan - June 29, 2009
What other evidence do you need?
You got swept by Texas earlier this year, and your record inside the very weak AL West is 3 games under .500. Your offense is average at best, and while your starting pitching is slightly above average, your bullpen is awful. To say that the Angels have a decent time is very kind. On top of this, your farm system is sub-par and your future isn’t very bright.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Offense is average?
You mean the team with the highest batting average in all of baseball? That would be above average I believe.
Red114 - June 29, 2009
let's put it more into perspective

Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
As opposed to the brilliance of...
“The Angels aren’t very good.”
Hello, pot. We are the kettles.
Red114 - June 29, 2009
That's right.
The Rangers aren’t very good either. There’s a big part of me that hopes that the Angels sweep this series and continue to create separation between themselves and the Rangers. This way the Rangers will not be pressured into making a stupid deadline deal and continue to prepare for the future. A future that sees the Rangers 2010 decade looking a lot like the 2000’s did for the Angels, and vice versa.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Wow.
I don’t know anyone on this board that would say something like that about this team. Apparently Ranger fans aren’t even Ranger fans.
Red114 - June 29, 2009
Actually...
They would say what was in that quote. But I think you get my point.
Red114 - June 29, 2009
I am a die hard Rangers fan.....
But I am also capable of being realistic. In a playoff series, the Rangers would go Millwood, Padilla, Feldman. The Red Sox would go Beckett, Lester, and either Dice K, Penny, or Smoltz. The Yankees would go Sabathia, Burnett, and Joba. I don’t see the Rangers winning (or having much of a shot) those series. So why not tap the breaks, show some patience, and set yourself up for the future when you’re realistically better suited to be sucessful. Let the Angels go and make some stupid trade to make themselves go from being slightly above average to good and get slaughtered again in the first round. Then they can set themselves back even further.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Or...
They could actually PLAY the game. You know, instead of analyzing pitching matchups and assuming the outcomes. Tap the brakes? There’s a half a season still to be played. I’m sure all the fans in Texas would be really happy to pay a shitload of money to come out and watch their team “tap the brakes”. Really?
Red114 - June 29, 2009
Red is right
Who are you to say that a team should “tap the breaks”? I’m sure the Rockies really “tapped the brakes” back in 2007. you guys should have “tapped the brakes” last year and fired Ron Washington.
Also I’m sorry but analyzing pitching match ups? Beckett sure was solid last year. And Sabathia was rock solid. I’m sorry but pitching match ups are irrelevant when it comes down to it because in the game of baseball, the team that PLAYS better, not the team who LOOKS better on paper, wins.
princeton11loveshalos - June 29, 2009
Sure you could.
But in that case, why does any team “sell” at the trade deadline? Who knows, maybe the A’s will win 80 of their next 90 games and win the division. Why don’t they go and trade to bring some guys in?
The fact is, the Rangers can’t add pay roll b/c of idiot Hicks. The Rangers don’t have an offense that can hit well enough off of 3 top of the rotation starters.
The Angels don’t have a starting rotation that can shut down a Red Sox or Yankees lineup for an entire series. They also have one of the worst bullpens in all of baseball. They also don’t have an offense that can put up a bunch of runs on top end starters in a series.
You can say what you want about “play the game”, but I knew the Angels would get their A** handed to them the last several years and they’re gonna face the same result this year. Sorry Angels fans for bringing reality into your chat room.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Top end starters the Angels have beat this year.
Beckett – check
Sabathia – check
Verlander – check
Gienke – check
Lincecum – check
Some of those games, the offense won it, some of them (The ones against Verlander and Grienke) the pitching won it. Is our bullpen crap…it was (kinda still is). Speier is coming around, Oliver has been solid all year and Fuentes, when he gets into a game, does his job. Putting up a “bunch” of runs is not necessarily what wins games, timely hitting, great pitching and stellar defense is what wins.
So…take your ball, go home, and shut the fuck (june) up.
halofan4life - June 29, 2009
And Also....
It doesn’t cost a “shitload of money” to go and watch the Rangers. The real Rangers fans understand that this team is full of holes and also understand that the future is bright but it will take time. The educated Rangers fan doesn’t want to sacrifice for the future for a failed playoff run in ‘09 just b/c we haven’t been in 10 years.

I'm used to reading conversations like this on the Espn boards....
Someone is channeling bigdan
RexTookMyStash - June 29, 2009
All I'm saying is....
Let’s be honest. The Angels are NOT as good as they were last year when they got spanked by the Red Sox, and the Sox are probably better. So are the Yankees. The Angels should get into the postseason, by way of Texas not being ready, but will be swept in the first round again (maybe win one game) and grow one season closer to being the 3rd or 4th best team in the AL West.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
OkK. I'll be honest.
1) The season isn’t even half over.
2) There are trades, injuries, and many other potential developments that can change a team’s changcs of making the playoff’s very quickly. Evidence? Look what Manny Ramirez did for the Dodgers last year.
3) Getting to the World Series takes hard work, talent, and a LOT of luck. The Cardinals won the Series in 2006 after finishing the regular season at 83-78. They got lucky and hot at the right time.
Thanks for elevating the debate. You’ve really helped generate a lot of respect for the team you support.
sothball - June 29, 2009
Why do I want the Rangers to have your respect?
Your clown ace threw at Kinsler twice and then your idiot manager acted shocked and disgusted when he was ejected. Then they both tried to blame it on the fact that he hadn’t pitched in a major league game in awhile. So how’d his warm up session look? Did he hit a few fans out near the Rangers visitors pen? I have 0 respect for the Angels organization and appreciate the lack of respect you have for our team.
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Wow. So many assumptions, so little time.
I actually have a great deal of respect for many members of the Texas Rangers. Nolan Ryan remains a favorite of mine. Josh Hamilton’s story is inspirational to anyone that would take the time to read and understand his struggles with drug dependency. There were a lot of Ranger fans that posted heartfelt condolences after the death of Nick Adenhart. Finally, I respect that the Rangers have essentially replaced the A’s as the team to beat in the West this year.
I believe you have shown in your comment above (and others) that respect is not a value you cherish.
sothball - June 29, 2009
someone pissed in his cheerios this morning
linkbruin - June 29, 2009
Okay....
I respect Vlad for never looking at a scouting report, yet still tearing the cover off the ball. I respect Torri Hunter b/c he’s smart enough to keep his primary residence in Dallas. I respect Chone Figgins, b/c he’s the fastest little midget I’ve ever seen and every time he gets on base I piss myself just waiting for him to score. I respect Jared Weaver b/c he’s improved greatly and I talked to one of his former Alaskan Summer League teammates who told me that he smokes more pot than anyone he’s ever met. I didn’t think that pot heads were motivated to improve the way that he has. Look at his brother….
Drew062682 - June 29, 2009
Better! Isn't it more enjoyable being civil? It is for me.
Too bad the change in attitude didn’t hold for the additional comments below.
I should have added that I read an article on Ron Washington 1-2 weeks ago. I didn’t know all that much about him before, but I came away with a great deal of respect for his efforts at managing the Rangers. What do you think of his management abilities?
BTW, you never responded to my original comments of what it takes to get to the playoffs and/or World Series. Why is that?

vladtheimpaler - June 29, 2009
The population of Anaheim according to the 2000 census is 328,000.
The population of Orange county is 3,100,000 or so and your figure sounds a bit too high for that. I mean, that’s roughly 25% of the population, and an even larger percentage of available housing. That would be something like every freakin’ house in Orange County.
As for being upside down, not everyone who is upside down is going to lose their house to foreclosure and unless they’ve had their houses appraised we can’t really know how many are upside down right now. It’s an unknowable quantity.

"You can put it on the board, Drew062682 is a troll!"
Drew is a typical Rangers/Cowboys fan, in constant denial when their team implodes.

at least not that lasted this long.

Are we really fighting with this douchebag?
this retard comes onto an Angels blog, calls us “Angel homers”, and tells us our team sucks. all the while, his God’s-gift-to-man team is 1.5 games behind ours. and they play in a minor league stadium. and our strength of schedule is better (we’re at number 1, they’re at 11).
hey douchebag, here’s a newsflash – when the first place team is ahead of you while playing in a tougher stadium against tougher opponents, they’re better than you. you suck.
suck it, Drew. go back to the Texas heat and continue being senile. we’ll be in first place if you need us.

Word.
Could not have said it any better.

I love trolls on the brink
you know the guy doe not have the cojones to come back here. The Angels literally settled all these arguments for us.

I don't understand the whole "it's for your own goodthat I'm telling you that you suck" idea.
Do trolls who take this approach ever get the desired response, even when addressing the fans of the worst team? Over at the corresponding forum for the Rangers there was so much misery, so much hanging of heads, that I couldn’t look at it for long.
