Final Score in San Francisco: Angels 4, Giants 3
Wow .. every Angel fan seemed to give up on this one because Mike Scioscia's nonconformist lineup or because of Tim Lincecum's press...
The Angels beat Tim Lincecum at home and swept the Giants in the process. How? By rolling back prices on select models. Oh was that a commercial in the middle of my postgame wrapup? Sorry, it is just that Fox telecasts interrupt the game with a promotion practically every pitch. Sickening. Almost as bad as their terrible camerawork - seriously, the cameramen (or women) have got to be drunk, incompetent or nepotistic hires. When I see you guys at Fresca's before Friday's game in Anaheim I will be sure to oui oui in your beer.
The Angels are on a six game winning streak but that did not stop Angels fans from whining about Mike Scioscia's lineup, and yet they beat one of baseball's bet. Back to back pinch hits in the top of the 8th inning by Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero allowed Chone Figgins to smack a double and Erick Aybar and Juan Rivera to follow with RBI singles for the Angels to take the lead for good. The bullpen hel the lead with a little dama, but it ended up allowing Justing Speier to get yet another micrometer of redemption for his sins earlier in the season.
Brian Fuentes got his MLB-leading 18th save!
Jeff Mathis blocked the plate on a great throw to home by Robb Quinlan (whose start in LF was was roundly criticized on Halo chatrooms, messageboards, blogs and sports bars) to spare a 3-run Giant lead in the bottom of the 7th.
Matt Palmer remained unbeaten! Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis played amazing defense to ensure that!
It is the longest winning streak of the season for the Angels, the first time that they are 6 games over .500 in 2009 and will make for a joyful plane ride home to see the light of the Halo home at the Big A.

oh the good ole days
RexTookMyStash - June 17, 2009
Palmer made a great effort but didn't win, kept us close
but gave it to Fuentes for the clean 9th.
SoCalWine - June 17, 2009
It worked!!!
I stayed away for the 9th and we won!!!
Woooot!!!
sothball - June 17, 2009
I almost want to give it to Speier.
It was only one out, but that strike out with two men on was huge, and came in a situation where our pen has too often failed us this season.
Zu Long - June 17, 2009
Ditto
red floyd - June 17, 2009
Am I crazy or has Speier been at least...
bearable, recently?
trojanangelfan - June 17, 2009
You are not crazy...
..he has been bearable. Regression to “normal” likely.
sothball - June 17, 2009
Fuentes here too
Great job in the ninth. And he looks like he’s getting better.
Monkeyspanked - June 17, 2009
Fangraphs
gives it to Figgy, mainly for his RBI double in the eighth. So that’s what I’m gonna say, poll or no.
scareduck - June 17, 2009
I added Chine
as a choice – hey i do these in literally 30 seconds to get them up for the postgame thread
Rev Halofan - June 17, 2009
He was the only player to get two hits off Lincecum.
Hey, you get two hits, including an XBH off the reigning Cy Young, I think you get to be panther.
I gave it to Juan b/c Figgs wasn’t an option when I voted.
Turks Teeth - June 17, 2009
Chone Fuentes for panther

norcaliangelsfan - June 17, 2009
I gave it to Hunter cause he started the rally.
Although Palmer was awesome also.
angelsfan777 - June 17, 2009
Where Can I Go to Vote for Quinlan?
Because every game he’s in, he’s the automatic panther.
ttsec - June 17, 2009
Hell of a throw from RF
But I wanted to vote for Speier
red floyd - June 17, 2009

The Lineup
The Angels are on a six game winning streak but that did not stop Angels fans from whining about Mike Scioscia’s lineup,
Scioscia’s mad north-by-northwest. He was waiting till Lincecum was gassed before bringing in Hula Dula and Vladdy… or at least so we were discussing during the game
red floyd - June 17, 2009
Hey Rev?
What’s with the player names just above the poll?
red floyd - June 17, 2009
I am workign arund a tagging bug
SBN is fixing it but tags only go up on the first round of publishing and I am a post and edit guy.
Rev Halofan - June 17, 2009
Scioscia for panther
linkbruin - June 17, 2009
He lit a fire under this team's ass after that 4-5 road trip
Helped we played the NL West, but we havent let up since then.
linkbruin - June 17, 2009
Just a note
Even over at McCovey Chronicles, they thought that Cousin Oliver had K’ed Aurilia.

ladybug - June 17, 2009
You want to keep them around the LAX area...El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Westchester?
Do they have access to a rental car?
sothball - June 17, 2009
they'll have their car....
I was thinking…is their much in Old Town?
ladybug - June 17, 2009
*there I want an edit button
ladybug - June 17, 2009
Old town Torrance...
…it’s OK. I wouldn’t consider it the “highlight” of any trip to So Cal. There are decent restaurants, but the young-un’s might get bored. There isn’t much to see…especially for a vacation.
sothball - June 17, 2009
I hope I don’t go all Stirrups here…
1)There’s a place in southeast Torrance called Mulligan’s (I think it’s a chain, so you may have one in your area). They have miniature golf, batting cages, mini race cars, laser tag, video games…family friendly stuff. It’s probably a 30 minute drive from the airport.
2) Would they be "impressed" by the beach (mid-westerners)? The drive from Marina Del Rep south through Playa Del Rey, El Segundo, and into Manhattan Beach is – on a clear day – a beautiful drive. Hopefully they could work in a nice sunset.
3) Downtown Manhattan Beach has a nice area to get out of the car, stretch the legs and walk around. There’s great restaurants, cafes, ice cream/gelato stands and so on.
Let me know if this is hitting the right “buttons” and then I can “modify the search”.
sothball - June 17, 2009
go all Stirrups....you don't know HOW funny that one was!!
I’m going to work that into a thread some time “don’t you go all Stirrups on this…..”
Mulligan’s sounded perfect to him. They live in Hemet and are going to Cancun tomorrow. Flight leaves in the am from LAX, so they have a room by the airport and were looking for something to do tonite to pass some time.
thank you!! it was exactly what he wanted!!
ladybug - June 17, 2009
you da bomb!!
ladybug - June 17, 2009
Aw...thanks!
sothball - June 17, 2009
OK. I got it. If you need help on directions, let me know.
You can probably find it on a google search. I hope they have a great time!
