Final Score: Angels 6, Padres 0.
The Angels seem to be jelling into a successful one-upsmanship. Juan Rivera hit two homeruns in Sunday's game, a day after Torii Hunter hit three. Jered Weaver went 9 innings for a complete game shutout after Joe Saunders had gone 8.1 last night.
The victim of this new standard of living in Anaheim was the San Diego Padres ... Swept a hundred miles from home.
The Angels played the three game series in a rejuvenated manner, with fewer mishaps than in recent weeks, aware that Howie Kendrick and Jose Arredondo have been sent down to the minors and probably quite aware that Tony "The Ninja" Reagins could pull a trade at any moment.
For all the talk about the weaker National League West, the team is on the schedule and the Angels showed up to play them. Jered Weaver left no doubt about what a first round draft pick can deliver and who the ace of the staff is

dude seriously.......
3 out of 4 points today….
you sir…..are panther.
norcaliangelsfan - June 14, 2009
Even though it was against the Padres...
A sweep is a sweep and this team needed it. Sometimes you gotta beat up on the helpless kids to feel better about yourself and that’s what our halos did this weekend
halofan4life - June 14, 2009
i hope you wouldn't beat up kids to feel better
thats cruel and a bit unusual
princeton11loveshalos - June 14, 2009
Definately not
I was ONE of the helpless kids. I’ve just learned to understand why they did it which is why I completely condone the Angels actions this weekend by picking on the nerds living down the street (figuratively speaking of course).
halofan4life - June 14, 2009
LOL
TheAntiSox - June 14, 2009
Beating up on the weaker members of the NL is fun
hauldog - June 14, 2009
Here Here
TheAntiSox - June 14, 2009
I am just glad Soth seems to have taken he reigns of this team and is ruling by the whip
nobody is safe from AAA and that makes me happy…
trojanangelfan - June 14, 2009
Can we send Matthews down to AAA?
Fred Fredrix - June 14, 2009
At this time, it's difficult to know...
…if it’s the Padres horrendous play or the butt-chewing by Scioscia that inspired the team. Probably some of both.
Whatever…the team seemed to play with more fire (although we still had…10-15 outs on the basepaths in the 3 game series? Ugh.). I wish we could keep this same slugging percentage (as against the Padres) over the balance of the season!
sothball - June 14, 2009
Forget GMJ, why the hell is Mathis still in the Majors?
HanoverFist - June 14, 2009
He did hit a homer in the series
and I like your screen name, you knucklehead.
rspencer - June 14, 2009
You're either very young, or not very thoughtful.
wumbug - June 14, 2009
Dude he isn't even hitting 200,
and I’ve been an Angels fan since about 1976.
HanoverFist - June 14, 2009
its not just about hitting
mastermind565 - June 14, 2009
Only to a point.
You can overlook a miserable offensive catcher only so much. I would hope a catcher would hit at least .225, under .200 for any pro baseball player is unacceptable to me.
HanoverFist - June 14, 2009
Maybe Moreno will give you a job.
wumbug - June 14, 2009
Is it about errant throws into centerfield?
hauldog - June 15, 2009
STERNN!!!!!
red floyd - June 14, 2009
Awesome job boys.........keep this offense up tomorrow
I’ll be at AT&T with Mrs Norcal and baby NorCal rooting you boys on against ZITO……
I want to see a win please.
norcaliangelsfan - June 14, 2009
raising a kid in norcal, tsk tsk.
what if it turns into a Giant’s fan or gasp an A’s fan? terrible.
teopeht - June 14, 2009
never gonna happen........
shes already gotten a few Halos outfits…….she’s gonna know who to root for.
norcaliangelsfan - June 14, 2009
Hey I'm going to all 3 games at AT&T.
Should be fun. I’m looking forward to back to back sweeps.
RexTookMyStash - June 14, 2009
tomorrow Im sitting out in left field seats.....2nd row
me and fam will be all decked out in Halos gear.
norcaliangelsfan - June 14, 2009
WTY is definitely the panther, but..
My all friends and I are think that Juan Rivera hit with luminous resistance power
red floyd - June 14, 2009
What the hell did Sosh put in these guys' drinks?!
TheAntiSox - June 14, 2009
A straw to stir things up?
Big Easy Halofan - June 14, 2009
Now HGH gets some MLBN love
HGH’s catch was Quick Pitch’s Capitol One Premier Play of the day
red floyd - June 14, 2009
P.S. What is MLBN thinking?
If they asked ESPN, they’d know that the top play has to come from either NYY or BOS.
[just kidding, MLBN rocks]
red floyd - June 14, 2009
Looks Like Sosh finally caught on that letting our guys throw complete games is a good thing
OH yah, and notice the 119 pitches. So to all those who were bagging on folks in some other posts in regards to complete games. Well this one is for you.
Big Bad, 'Vlad'! - June 14, 2009
Weaver is NOT Saunders
Saunders has shown a definite wear-down at season’s end, whereas Jered has finished strong.
Rev Halofan - June 14, 2009
Just thought I'd mention
How did the Angels do the last time the Lakers won the title? hmmmmm…it would be nice if symmetry was with us again.
swiss mcgee - June 15, 2009
we won this stupid thing
called the World Series
vlad IS my man - June 15, 2009
Are you sure?
I was watching the games at the time, and I’m sure Barry Bonds won it. That’s what Fox Sports told me anyways.
I believe ESPN reported it as “Bonds fails to surpass Reggie’s World Series Records”.
red floyd - June 15, 2009
Weaver is Panther today and Starter Panther of the year so far
And Chone Figgins is a lead off Beast!
vladtheimpaler - June 15, 2009
Chone has been absolutely awesome this year.
I still think he may be the most important player on the Angels and has been for several years now. He should not even be considered tradeable.
HanoverFist - June 15, 2009
That's not
What a few fairweather fans were saying this past offseason remember? Pisses me off
