Angels Win is Inside the Park

Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 4, Kansas City Royals 1

A great pitching performance by pitcher Matt Palmer was overshadowed Friday Night by an inside the park homerun. The vengefully delicious frosting on that sweet smack was that the catchable Howie Kendrick flyball down the right field line was misjudged by an arch-nemesis of all that is Halo: Jose Guillen.

Consider the karma of coming into Southern California riding a first place hot hand and waltzing past a loping fly that should either be caught or kept in front of a fielder for a single. Guillen, who turns 33 a week from Sunday, shoul hope that it is his only karmic komeuppance, as the old bull looked more sullen than ever as a gloating Fox Sports West cameraman made sure to zoom in on his pitiful Taurus frown, abandoned by fate to be jeered by the crowd he has publicly goaded into hating him.

Darren Oliver relieved Palmer in the 6th inning with one out and men on 1st and 3rd. He let in a run but that was all and his 2 strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched gave him a career total of 1,000 tying Ralph Terry and Tom Browning for 429th place in baseball history.

Palmer's "story" of being a 30-year old journeyman living the dream is wearing out as he continues to show up as a serviceable major league arm. His first-inning foibles were minimal this game, yielding only a high pitch count that left him gassed after 5 and a third innings. Brian Fuentes got his 8th save of the season. He is on pace for a 50-Save season despite having some rough outings in the first month of the year.

middle relief ftw!

Yeah, we really needed that!

Hard to choose. Could go to Palmer or Oliver.

A game of hilarity.

"sweep the leg"
Palmer for Panther

Howie gets honorable mention somewhat for his inside the parker, but mostly for his goofy and dorky joke in the post game intervew

palmer looked leti5

but i voted for cousin oliver. 1000 k’s, and palmer wouldn’t have gotten the W if ollie hadn’t stepped up..

Results up

And link to yesterday’s results as well

i'm in there twice for today scott..

i changed my picks, and therefore sent in two forms.. just thought i’d let you know..

STU LANCE

Wearing the Angels cap – I hope Chick Hearn is smiling!

its lantz, rev

just sayin!

I am surprised

I guess wearing a Dodgers hat isn’t looking so good right now with the Manny thing

I didnt hear what Kendrick said

what was the joke he told?

HE SAID
yeah i have been hitting the gym hard and running on the treadmill for that one
Just wondering...

could Palmer and Loux stay on the roster after Escobar.Lackey and Santana returns? they may digest some innings efficiently for us.

Dude...leave Rosie in the rotation...

Escobar can play bullpen

good Q

Escy and Loux in the pen, Palmer Vs. Moseley for Slot #5.

Escy

hope Escobar could become our closer in the future…he can do better than Fuentes did.

Though not better than Fuentes did today

8-1 with Boy King starting at short.

Yeah, crazy stat. Maybe we're just that bad with Aybar in there?
Voted for Oliver

Nice to see the pen come in, do its job and nail down the W. Palmer pitched another great game, and seeing Guillen misplay the ball…priceless.

I'd pay like...$100 to go back in time and witness this live and in person tonight.

Link for those who missed it.

Kudos to the pyrotechnics crew...

they signaled homerun by lighting a firework that timed with Howie crossing home. I wonder if their act persuaded the scorers to give Howie a homerun. It sure seemed like an E-9 to me.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

They’re here!!!

I was thinking the same thing.
Okay, now a fuentesauras image

rawrrwarwrarwarwarawrawrararar!
I love how Kendrick is nominated for panther of the game

When it should have been an out.

Instead of Howie it should be-

Panther of the Game:

-Palmer
-Oliver
-Guillen

In a way Guillen hit that inside-the-park homerun

Panther = Guillen
Kids calling Terry Smith on post game show

Wow, these kids stay up late

As long as Palmer keeps turning in these performances

I will never fail to vote for him. That’s just above and beyond the call of duty right now.

Didn't it hit Guillen's glove? That would make it an error.

no it did not hit it, he overran it and it dropped just past his glove – that is why it bounced so hard and turned into a topspin ricochet ball. I f he had gotten a qurter-inch of his glove on it then it would have been deadened and stayed near where it landed.

I thought it hit his glove...

sure appears to have changed direction after passing over him. Also, the Royals have protested the official scoring of that play.

This is the kind of thing that brings Division Champions.

Palmer coming out of ?. wow. we are .500 ! the pretenders day is just about done, and we’re getting ready for another crack at October Glory!

Seattle is sinking, Texas is now our competition for the division
Any chance Palmer stays in the rotation???

Moseley goes to the pen??

I, personally, feel pretty good with Ortega and Loux as back up in Salt Lake. We are at .500 with Lackey, Santana, and Escobar all on the DL (plus Vlad of course). Things are looking good.

am i the only one who wants to quit while we're ahead with palmer?

if anything, i think loux will be more steady over an entire season

I think you're the only one.

Palmer is having the time of his life, and refuses to be outpitched.

Soth and Butch...

have a lot of faith in that fella. He needs to keep on believing in himself and he could find a place as a starter in the bigs permanently.

14-14

Last that time that was our record through 28 games we all know what happened. I’m liking the possibilities here.

I GOT 3 POINTS!!!!!
