7:05 PM Start pits Masty McMasterson against Weaver the Younger in a battle of two red teams.
Here is your lunch topic: Salad Dressing. The waitress rattles off the list of your choices. Which one are you waiting to hear? Do you want a lot, a little, on the side maybe?
Do you have a little recipe for one you make in lieu of the store-bought type?

My Dressing
I bring my own. Apple cider vinager, a little olive oil, a pack of sweet n low and some pepper. Mix together before you leave the house. May not sound great, but its pretty good and good for you.

you're the person we make fun of in the back
…just so ya know. ;)
howiestheman - May 12, 2009
WTF???
And, you talking about me in “the back” makes a differance?? Son, I was in ’Nam eating shit we took out of rivers and drinking dirty water, and you think that thet me bringing my own salad dressing is something to make fun of?? You live in a small world boy, a world made up of cheap laughs and thrills. Some day you will also grow older and come to the realization that other peoples ways are just that, THEIR way, and you will LEARN to learn!!! Good luck son. “JUST SO YA KNOW…”

“The sweat off my balls paid for your freedom!!!” – quoted from one of my friends who is in the National Guard and he makes me laugh every time he says it.

Why Sweet - n - Low?
Rev Halofan - May 13, 2009
There is a better way...
Only because I am a Diabetic do I use sweet-n-low. The best replacement for the artificial stuff is brown sugar. It is very good with this substitute

Bob's Big Boy 1000 Island is the best
While we’re on this topic, can I just say that people who put Ranch dressing on pizza are disgusting? Seriously, is the cheese not enough? It’s like buttering bacon.
Nice job on the radio yesterday, Rev. I generally don’t like sports talk radio, but Biggsy puts on a good show and you complement it well.
Higz - May 12, 2009
Big Boy's BLUE CHEESE!!!!
red floyd - May 12, 2009
Also awesome
I miss going to Bob’s. They replaced the only one in my vicinity with a stupid Carrow’s.
Higz - May 12, 2009
If you love Bob's Blue Cheese...
Track down a Chris & Pitts. Their Blue Cheese is the best.
Jay Cal - May 12, 2009
The one in North Hollywood closed years ago
red floyd - May 12, 2009
There's still a Chris & Pitts in Santa Ana though it went way down hill
nothing like it used to be
Funke5ive - May 12, 2009
I think there's one on Lakewood in Bellflower or Downey
rspencer - May 12, 2009
in Downey, corner of Lakewood and Gallatin across the street from McD's
ladybug - May 12, 2009
My wife used to dip her french fries...
…in Bob’s Blue cheese dressing. Disgusting.
I about blew cheese just watching…
sothball - May 12, 2009
in Seattle, I learned to dip fries in Ivar's tartar sauce...yummmmm
ladybug - May 12, 2009
What? That sounds amazing...pretty sure I've done that before, just not with Bob's Big Boy Blue
Mayheminthehood - May 12, 2009
My brother in law mixes ranch and hot sauce and dips his pizza in it
pretty nasty
Epic Dean - May 12, 2009
Barf
Hot sauce, OK. Ranch, no.
Higz - May 12, 2009
blue cheese on the side
surfpunk - May 12, 2009
at the bobby flay steak house in AC
they had this chipotle vingerette that was amazing. i would go with that.
kingfish - May 12, 2009
El Torito's Mexican Caesar Dressing
Also any Bernstein’s bottled dressing.
red floyd - May 12, 2009
Oh, Mrs. red floyd makes a nice asian dressing too...
Soy Sauce, Rice Vinegar, Garlic, and a little oil (either peanut or olive, whatever she has in the house).
red floyd - May 12, 2009
Have her try sesame oil if she doesn't. I could take shots of that stuff...
MidwayCityLivestock - May 12, 2009
Brain fart.
That’s what I meant — sesame oil,not peanut.
red floyd - May 12, 2009
I've bought their mexican caesar at the grocery store before...good stuff.
Mayheminthehood - May 12, 2009
their cilantro & pepita salad dressing is really good. I use it to make fish tacos...tastes just like Rubios
ladybug - May 12, 2009
Before the waitress rattles off any dressings, I ask if they do a caesar salad. If yes, gimme...if no, gimme soup or nothing.
At home, however, I’ll go with whatever…just no ranch.
Mayheminthehood - May 12, 2009
I usually roll with Italian dressing.
Don’t eat salad often though. I usually have the soup
Epic Dean - May 12, 2009
I'm partial to 1000 island on my burger, not so much on salad.
It terms of salad, it begins and ends with Ranch. The stuff made fresh from the packet, not the crap in the bottle. No matter how much they try, the bottled version doesn’t taste quite the same (i think it’s because of the preservatives)
Try the iceberg wedge at Lazy Dog Cafe’ Yum! (stomach growling)
Other condiments of honorable mention:
Best 1000 island – Jerry’s Famous Deli
Best tartar sauce- Crab Cooker
3rd Echelon - May 12, 2009
Soup or Salad?
yes please :D

Side salad..........
norcaliangelsfan - May 12, 2009
Ohhhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
eyespy - May 12, 2009
vinegar and oil
Downing Rules - May 12, 2009
I have become partial
to Chipotle Ranch. I’m no conossieur, so I don’t really have a particular brand, but I like Ranch dressing with a little bit of kick, so that stuff suits nicely.
If that’s not available, give me balsamic vinaigrette.
Gorbachav5 - May 12, 2009
Used to be Bleu Cheese
but now it’s a Balsamic Vinaigrette on the side… trying to watch those calories so I can become “Da not quite as Big Kahuna”
DaBigKahuna - May 12, 2009
easy
a light, but well-mixed balsamic vinaigrette. not so much that there is extra dressing when finished, but to that perfect point where in your last bite, you’re scraping the plate for just a little more.
feNOMINAL - May 12, 2009
It all depends
on a variety of factors: the contents of the salad, whether it’s a side salad, where I’m having said salad.
Good blue cheese is hard to beat, especially for a steakhouse salad.
A classic, genuine Caesar is always nice.
An Italian vinaigrette (including but not limited to Balsamic vinegar) when it’s served with Italian food. Actually, an Italian dressing (Ken’s Steakhouse Italian with Aged Romano, to be precise) is the standard dressing in our household.
Variations on 1000 Island (including Bob’s and Bahooka dressing) can hit the spot every once in a while.
My favorite dressing to make, though, is a classic French consisting of Olive Oil, wine vinegar (red, white or Champgane), Dijon mustard and salt & fresh ground pepper. Maybe a little fresh tarragon.
jjackflash - May 12, 2009
Ken's stuff in general is good
red floyd - May 12, 2009
Salad Bar dressing...
is awful. go with the buttermilk ranch.
most restaurants have a decent blue cheese.
Olive Garden has an awesome Italian.
If you don’t like Ranch with your Pizza, where do you stand on your Buffalo Wings!?!
Personally, I love eating my pepperoni and green pepper pizza with buffalo wings and blue cheese. And I’ll dip my pizza in the left over combo of blue cheese and wing sauce. If that makes me a bad person, I don’t want to be good.
Jay Cal - May 12, 2009
Blue cheese for buffalo wings
red floyd - May 12, 2009
yeah...
actually I only use ranch when Blue Cheese isn’t available. The snack was intended to be eaten with blue cheese. I used to work at a pizza place, I made the best wings.
Jay Cal - May 12, 2009
"wing stop" ranch dressing
i know its for wings but its still awesome
trojanangelfan - May 12, 2009
The best blue cheese
I ever tasted was from Cris & Pitts. Remember those restaurants. I would just go for that blue cheese dressing. And maybe some ribs. Their meat was tasty but chewy. I think there is one in Anaheim home of the Angelitos.
Angelitos - May 12, 2009
Anaheim, Whitier, Bellflower
Are the ones I’ve seen.
Jay Cal - May 12, 2009
Chris&Pitts BBQ sauce is the best I've been able to find in a store.
There’s a hole-in-the-wall place on Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills (called “My Brother’s BBQ”), that has a better sauce and killer beans, but they don’t put their sauce in stores.
red floyd - May 12, 2009
can't eat lettuce anymore but
Ranch, any vinaigrette, homemade blue cheese with homemade wings or just olive oil and vinegar.
spinach salad with poppy seed dressing is really good too
ladybug - May 12, 2009
Frank's Red Hot

HaloDutch - May 12, 2009

b0rd3rline - May 12, 2009

norcaliangelsfan - May 12, 2009
Blue Cheese
tastes like I imagine dirty feet would taste like. PU
anaheimisnotla - May 12, 2009
So you would say
Blue cheese dressing = toe jam?
rspencer - May 12, 2009
My wife's recipe
Balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The combination is magic. I love blue cheese, but it’s like 7000 calories per dose.
rspencer - May 12, 2009
Ranch... and lots of it.
thetooth - May 12, 2009
blue cheese of italian
both mixed together
howiestheman - May 12, 2009
These are the ones
Any of them. This is the good stuff from the Angelo Pietro Restaurants.
eyespy - May 12, 2009
you gotta go Bleu!
cupie - May 12, 2009
Youre my boy, blue!
Mayheminthehood - May 12, 2009
Not big on salads
Not big on dressing either. However, I do like that buttermilk dressing from Jack In The Box. Goes bomb with the fries!!
By the way, I’m with some of you on the whole dressing on pizza thing. My brother did some sick shit back in the day. He used to pound the pizza with ketchup. Nasty!!
Sternos - May 12, 2009
Mexico
In Mexico (certain parts, anyway), ketchup is commonly used on pizza as a condiment. Even places like Pizza Hut serve it with the pizza, catering to local tastes.
jjackflash - May 12, 2009
in Japan, pizza toppings are corn and mayonnaise
sorry if I made you puke….I know I did mentally myself when I heard that one
ladybug - May 12, 2009
That is so not luminous
Higz - May 13, 2009
In an unknown restaurant I'll go French
for the variety, because French dressing can mean 7 different things. My favorite of all time was a Spanish dressing made at a restaurant (Captain’s ……..) in the Oxnard marina, some 35 years ago.
