There are confirmed reports Angels pitcher, Nick Adenhart was killed in a traffic accident in Fullerton shortly after midnight.
According to this article from Adenharts hometown newspaper,
"NBC25 - Williamsport High School graduate Nick Adenhart, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, died early this morning in a car accident in Fullerton, California, according to a family member.
Three people were killed in the crash and another person was seriously injured.
Authorities are blaming the three-vehicle accident on a motorist in a mini-van who ran a red light at East Orangethorpe Avenue and South Lemon Street."
Foremost, our most heartfelt condolences go out to Nick's family and friends. Just 22 years-old and taken from us all.
Two others died in the crash, both passengers in the same car as Adenhart. Neither of which were members of the Angels' organization.

This is awful. Just horrible.
Big A’s fan here and I follow a lot of stuff in the minors. I know Adenhart was being talked about as a potential future top-line starter for the Angels and I honestly was looking forward to seeing how his MLB career would turn out because I enjoy the rivalry between the A’s and Angels.
To wake up this morning and find out about it after watching him pitch just last night…it’s shocking and tragic. Forget about any rivalries for the time being. This is terrible to hear about no matter who it is, no matter which team he played for.
My thoughts and prayers to him and his family, and the others that died in this terrible accident.

elcroata - April 9, 2009
I just remembered something
I was doing photography for a website at a game in Fresno last year between the Grizzlies and Salt Lake Bees, and for about half an inning I sat next to Dustin Moseley (rehabbing from an injury) and chatted with him, and Nick Adenhart was charting pitches. We exchanged hellos but that was it.
It’s been about an hour since I learned about this and I still can’t believe it.
Flashfire - April 9, 2009
Another A's fan here
I am saddened and shocked by this tragedy. I still cannot believe I was watching Adenhart pitch a great game yesterday only to hear on sports talk radio that he was taken away too early from this world.
I remember watching last night and feeling so good about the rivalry between the A’s and the Angels and was looking forward to seeing him pitch this year at the Colisseum. Now we can only hang onto the memory and the thought of what would have been.
Today the rivalry our teams have is so small and unimportant as the brotherhood of baseball mourns. It is raining here in the Bay Area today which seems appropriate as the heavens cry out for an Angel.
My condolences go to the Adenhart family, the Angels players and fans, and my prayers are offered for the deliverance of his soul. The world does seem less bright today.
oaklandSMASH - April 9, 2009
Yet another A's fan.
I came here immediately after I had heard the news. My sincerest condolences go out to his family and the entire Angels organization. We always get caught up in these rivalries over silly things like sports games, which in perspective, is absolutely meaningless. A huge blow to the baseball world, and a total and utter shock to everyone. There’s no rivalry today.

I’m not an Angels fan, but I just happened to read this and had to comment. I want to say that my condolances and prayers go out to Nick Adenhart’s family, friends, the Angels organization as well as anyone else who might’ve been affected in any way by this young man, and any other victim of this crash and their familes and friends. I think it puts things into perspective and is a sombering reminder of just how little baseball really means in the grand scheme of life. It also is a reminder that we should live every day like it’s our last because you never know when that day will come. And it is with tears in my eyes that I say this: RIP Nick Adenhart and anyone else who may have died in this crash.

Maybe I shouldn't be so negative here, I suppose.
But still, this angers me so much. When somebody overdoses, or dies in a boating accident, or whatever, I might feel sad but least I can console myself by telling myself that “hey, at least it was his own decision.” But Adenhart was an innocent young kid whose promise was snuffed out through no fault of his own, by the criminal recklessness of some punk he could never have foreseen.

The other guy that died was part of the Angels organization
The identities of the other victims have not been revealed, but TMZ reports that “one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.”
The guy who ran the red light should be jailed for life, meanwhile this idiot who ran the light left the scene and left but thankfully the police got him. From all us Yankee fans we are very sorry for the entire Angels organization, the fans, and the Adenhart family. I hope the Angels start a foundation for Nick in his honor, i would be really happy if the entire Yankee organization donated money to a foundation for Nick if the Angels decide to make one or if Nicks family wants to make a foundation in his honor. Take care to cherish each moment, watching Nick pitch last night as a fan I was so excited for him and his future as an Angel. I am deeply moved and saddened by this horrible accident. As a lifelong fan of your green and gold rivals to the north, we all know there is no love lost between our teams and fans between the lines. This is not between the lines. This is life beyond the game. The loss of Adenhart is sickening and sad.
Sincerely,
Robert C.

Condolences from a Mets fan
It’s awful when news like this breaks. Heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those involved and to all of his fans of adenhart. I hope they postpone tonights game and give you fans and his teammates time to deal with this.
DonutVT - April 9, 2009
I saw this posted on McCovey Chronicles today and I just can’t believe it’s real. I saw Adenhart pitch against the Giants in Scottsdale this spring and he looked great. This is about much more than baseball, but it’s still shocking and heartbreaking to consider this 22 year old top prospect pitcher I just saw a few weeks ago is dead.
This is so terrible. There aren’t words to express how terrible this is.

With a fan dying after opening day, then the stadium having that piece of concrete fall in the Club Level, and now this. Seems like things aren’t starting off on the foot that we had all hoped for.
So sad for the fan and for Nick and his family. This has been a hard week for the Halo Fans.

howiestheman - April 9, 2009
Of course I can't really add anything to what is being said.
My heart goes out to his family. I have kids that age and I can’t imagine anything worse than loosing one of my children. I pray that God will bless and comfort them.
As a baseball fan, my very favorite part of the game is watching and rooting for a young player as he comes up and gets his chance to play. I always root for the youngsters more than anyone else. I was so excited watching him pitch last night. I mentioned to my wife that I thought he had arrived and was much more angry about Nick not getting the win than the Angels not getting the win. I was looking forward to watching him again next week. Along with all the other baseball fans out there, I am very sad this morning.

H Shit
Having a lot of trouble putting coherent thoughts together….this is just such a senseless, awful tragedy. Partly because Nick had such promise and mostly, of course, because everyone close to him—-his family, his best friends, his teammates, everyone—has to live without him now for the rest of their lives, knowing what could have happened had some fuck in a car not run a light. My first thoughts, even though I wasn’t alive at the time, were of Lyman Bostock and another life snuffed out.
I hope that Lyman is showing Nick around the place and that soon enough they’ll be watching over their team from that better clubhouse in the sky.
My limited legal perspective from having taken crim law is that this guy should easily be charged with reckless homicide—which while not first-degree murder will still put him away for a good many years, if not for life when you tack on the other three. Who knows, maybe they can even get him for Felony Murder if he was committing something other than drunkenness at the time—and then he’d be really screwed.
But we have to know, too, that eventually this murderer is going to understand the enormity of what he has done—we have to deal with tragedy for a time, but this man, just like Nick’s family and friends, has to deal the rest of his life with the repercussions of having killed three people from one stupid decision. I hope our prayers will, even if only eventually, go to him as well.
Bless you, Nick.
Clutch - April 9, 2009
Another thing
Somewhat petty as it may seem, it is truly a shame that Nick couldn’t walk away from the stadium last night with a W. He pitched his heart out with that gem, and it would have been fitting had he seen the rewards for his efforts. So, so sad. Now he will truly get the recognition he deserves.
Heck, can the A’s reverse forfeit the game after the 6th inning—preserving a 4-0 win for Nick?

I’ve been so looking forward to start of this season for months. Now we’re 3 days into it and already I wish it was over. Another A's fan
I had to go to a family dinner last night, but got home excited to watch last nights game on Tivo. Kept me up until almost 1:00 last night watching the game — can’t believe that the guy I saw frustrate the A’s for six innings, and who gave such a nice post game interview, is no longer with us.
This is a true tragedy for all of baseball, and my heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of those whose lives were lost and to all Angels fans. Sometime later, when the time is right, please let us over at Athletics Nation know if there is anything we can do to help with anything.
My plan after work today was to go home an re-watch the exciting final two innings of last nights game to re-live the comeback. Now, I think I am going to go home and rewatch the first 6 innings of a young kid starting to come into his own — a pitcher that was given an oppurtunity this year and was taking advantage of it.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

This is a nightmare, please...wake me up....
…the last 2 days were bad enough. Now this?
My mind keeps juxtaposing the image of Nick LAST year (the overwhelmed deer -in -headlights) vs. the much more composed pitcher we saw last night.
He had an extended radio interview before yesterday’s game with Physioc where he talked a lot about his life, and pitching, and more…
So on a night after his greatest MLB success…pointing to a very promising future…this very young man with so much future, so much promise, so much to anticipate in life…gone. Forever.

Driving advice...
I lost a friend in a similar situation in 2004. Since then, I have been unable to blindly drive through a normal green light without at least first scanning the horizon for anybody who might be flying into my right of way. I also lift my foot off the gas and prepare to brake in case I need to.
Remember that folks the next time you have a green light. Just because it is green doesn’t mean that everyone near the intersection knows that.
Downing Rules - April 9, 2009

He may have been drunk, in which case this wouldn’t matter.

Great Advice.
I try to do this all the time… I think we were warned about this back in Driver’s Ed, and i also keep thinking of those scenes in movies where hackers change all the lights to green and everyone sideswipes each other. If it happens in real life to me, I plan to be the one who does not go through the light and get hit, though I might get rear ended. At least the car is built to protect me and the person rear ending me, unlike side impacts.
I would be surprised if the driver of Adenhart’s car could have prevented what happened, given the speed of the other driver, and knowing that intersection. But it is still good advice I hope everyone will keep in mind when driving though intersections.

But I just wanted to express my condolences. I know we’re foes, but this just is the saddest thing ever. It puts things into perspective. I am so sorry and there’s nothing I can say really. I just wanted to post that my thoughts go out to you, the fans, and to the Angels players and the poor families who’s lives have been turned upside down.

I was watching the Mets-Reds game and they just mentioned this. Some things just don’t make sense, and something that doesn’t make any sense is someone being taken at age 22 by someone else’s utter carelessness. It ain’t right.

Just wanted to pop in and send my condolesences for this terrible, tragic loss. I am shocked and don’t know what to think right now. I was watching him pitch yesterday on a screen alongside the Dodger game, and I remember thinking to myself how good he was looking and how good he will become. For him to pass away so soon like this is just heartwrenching and a true tragedy. My heart goes out to Adenhart’s family and friends and the organization. RIP

Foe doesn't mean Enemy
All of the support that we see from the other teams out there, especially in the AL West is really moving.
True, we may not like the colors that the other fans wear during the season, or the people that they choose to cheer for, but that doesn’t make us enemies.
We are all united by a love of the game, we just choose different ways to voice our passion.
Thanks for the support and keep all of this sentiment involved the next time you think about booing for a player on the opposing team.

From the Angels' press release...
Adenhart is survived by his father Jim and mother Janet. His family released the following statement:
“Nick’s family expresses sincere gratitude for all the help the Angels have provided. He lived his dream and was blessed to be part of an organization comprised of such warm, caring, and compassionate people. The Angels were his extended family. Thanks to all of Nick’s loyal supporters and fans throughout his career. He will always be in everyone’s hearts forever.”
All of us at Halo’s Heaven appreciate the outpouring of feelings from everyone throughout the SB Nation, and throughout baseball overall.

Just wanted to wish each of you, as well as the Adenhart family and friends, my deepest sympathies and condolences. My prayers are with each and every one of you during this tragic time.
I know we as Rangers and Angels fans are rivals and everything, but this is a time to look past that and remember that we’re all people here, who happen to enjoy the same game. So Sad - Young Life Gone - Makes you Think
I’m really torn up about this, I love the Halos, been watching them since I was in utero, and I was extremely excited about Adenhart this season. Thrilled to find that he was in the starting rotation, and I felt that he had a lot of potential for a great career. Now he’s gone and there’s not only a huge hole in the rotation, but a huge hole in the hearts of his teammates and his fans.
I think it’s fantastic to see the outpouring of emotion and support from all the fans of other teams, that’s phenomenal. Baseball fans seem to be a dying breed unfortunately, but a tragedy like this really shows the character of baseball and the grand game’s fans.
Whenever someone very young dies those of us who are older need to stop and think about our lives and the BS minutia [sp] that makes us stressed out and depressed, and just get over it, because life is too short and can be taken away at any moment.
We MUST not forget about Nick and his family throughout the years, yes he wasn’t a major leaguer for very long, but he was an Angel through and through, and he will be missed, desperately.
RIP Nick. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, as well as the other two innocents who were plucked away from us last night. It shouldn’t have happened.
I can think of no better way for the Halos to honor Nick than winning the Series in his memory, and now we all have a rallying cry to bind us together. Not that we wanted it this way. EVER.
wildwill - April 9, 2009
From the Angels press release
Adenhart, 22, was a passenger in a silver Mitsubishi along with three others. Fullerton Police reported the Mitsubishi proceeded through an intersection, when a van ran a red light and broadsided the vehicle. A female driver and male passenger were in the Mitsubishi were dead when police and fire department personnel arrived. Adenhart died as the result of his injuries at UCI Medical Center earlier this morning. No other members of the Angels organization were involved.

This shouldn’t happen to anyone and when it happens to someone with such a bright future it seems to hit so much harder. I just got back from my biochem class and there were people talking about it who don’t even know about the Angels, that’s how big this has gotten (and I’m in central Illinois so that kind of says something). My job connects me to death on a daily basis – the company I work for does online obituaries – and after a while, it almost becomes routine. I was listening the Sports Lodge on AM 830 when someone called in at about 6:20 this morning saying that an Angels starting pitcher last night had died at the UCI Med Center. Roger Lodge thought it was a prank and hung up guy, but I had a bad feeling in my gut that the guy was telling the truth since he sounded very serious about it. I was also hoping it was a hoax, but unfortunately the report was true. Nick and the other 2 people didn’t deserve to lose their lives this way and I hope justice is served for the guy who caused this. My condolences to Nick’s family and to all of the Angels organization.

Nick Adenhart
I’ve just read every post for this thread, and it makes me feel sad, but so supported. I’d like to thank every person who posted on this, to include other clubs SBN support. This is very therapeutic. I began reading with a tear in my eye, a few posts in, I was in absolute tears. By the end, I still feel empty, but better. Many of you took the words right out of my mouth, and wish I could elaborate further, but I’m still at a loss.
I want to send my condolences and support to all who loved Nick, and especially to his family.
As for tonight’s game… it should up to the players. I think they’d want to play in his honor.
I was telling my wife last night about Nick and how he was going to be the next great Angel pitcher… an absolute phenom. I called her at work today to tell her the horrible news… the conversation was just silent… we both paused… what a horrible tragedy.
May the Lord be with you Nick, his family, and all others affected by this.

I would like to extend my condolences to all the families involved, the Angels organization and to all of you, the fans. This is beyond us being rivals when we play eachother, this is a tragedy for all of baseball. This reminds me of when the Yankees came to Fenway right after 911. When the Yankees took the field there was a 10 min standing ovation, it was larger than any game could be, and that is how I feel about this. Such a promising young man and player taken from his family, friends and the baseball community in such a senseless and tragic way. Whenever we play the Angels it is always a great competition between two great teams with so much young talent. Now a big piece of that has been taken forever.

My heart goes out to all of Nick Adenhart’s family and friends. I remember Adenhart giving the Sox a hard time last year in Spring Training and always wanted him to be a part of the never ending Konerko-Figgins rumors. This is a terrible loss for all of baseball. You never ever want to see such a promising young kid go out like this.

May 2004 Washington Post Article about Nick
Thought the Angels fans might like to read an old article about Nick. It talks about Nikck being Baseball America’s No. 1 high school prospect in the country, his elbow surgery, his young potential, etc.
“Nick pitched the Little League all-star team to the state tournament as an 11-year-old, was so untouchable as a 12-year-old that a desperate opponent attempted to steal home on a throw back from the catcher, and had registered in the mid-eighties on a radar gun as a 13-year-old.”

I currently have no words of my own, therefore I shall sit back down in deference to those more qualified:
If tolling bell I ask the cause.
‘A soul has gone to God,’
I’m answered in a lonesome tone;
Is heaven then so sad?
That bells should joyful ring to tell
A soul had gone to heaven,
Would seem to me the proper way
A good news should be given.

As an A’s fan, this youngster scared the shit out of me. #1 and/or #2 prospect for the last couple of years, sick motion, strong, etc… Watching him last night confirmed my suspicion that he was yet another (in a long list of Angels) that could wreak havoc in the division.
Someone upthread mentioned that rooting for baseball seems a bit hollow today. I think I will watch a bit closer as moments like this remind me that life is fleeting and individuals of the caliper of Mr. Adenhart are rare and should be celebrated. Thank you Nick.

First id like to add condolences to the friends, family, teammates or anyone esle this tragedy has effected. Im absolutely amazed on how many real people are posting on this site. its special to see people so respectful towards eachother sadly it takes tragedy. I was fortunetly lucky enough to meet Nick as a fan during spring training. im one year older than him he honeslty seemed more mature than i was. he was focused at he was doing and loved what he was doing. Nick signed an autograph and chatted and he was real. i didnt hear an ego, feel like i was talking to future baseball superstar i was talking to someone human, who joke around with the females flirting with him, making a some little kids day by giving him a ball. One thing to note about his character was that he wasnt the driver, i mean how many moron atheletes these days drive drunk. its quite sad. I pray that Nick is on that mound watching over his teammates giving his some sort of guidance or motivation. they say things happen for a reason whether we agree with them or not. i believe this Angel family will grow closer and not crumble.
Lighting up the Halo will have a whole new meaning this year.
as selfish as this sounds im just a lot pissed that im going to miss Nicks start against the Sox.

Make a Difference
Although I never met Nick, I can’t help feeling like I’ve lost a close friend. I mourn him and pray for his family. I can’t begin to imagine the profound sense of anguish I’m sure those close to him are feeling. As a parent, one of my greatest fears is to experience the loss of a child. I literally ache for his mother and father. However, my sadness is rapidly evolving to frustration and anger over the senseless loss of yet another promising young life to drunk driver.
We mourn his death today, and we must always celebrate his life going forward. Nick touched so many people during his short time on earth, likely more than he ever knew. His legacy will endure because of the difference he made in the lives of others.
If there is to be anything positive from this tragedy it will be up to us to make it happen. Too many young people die and/or are maimed every day at the hands of a drunk driver. The person who killed Nick and the others was a repeat drunk driving offender operating the vehicle on a suspended license. It has to stop right here and right now. We can make a difference. Support "Mothers Against Drunk Driving" (MADD), support educational outreach to our youth so they understand the impact of alcohol on their actions, support judicial and legislative actions to toughen all forms of drunk driving laws, and ensure those who violate the statutes are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Do it for Nick – and those other young people who died today…and will die today due to drunk drivers. How many more senseless tragedies will it take?

I’m an A’s fan, and I feel we have all been robbed by a senseless act of stupidity. I wish beyond measure that I still had the opportunity to hassle Nick at a game, or feel absolute dejection when he mowed down my beloved A’s as he did last night. Sadly, through no fault of his own, he encountered one jam to many.
One of the most poignant things I have ever read, his father sitting and staring at his locker. I have a son, and I’m sitting here typing this and doing a poor job of holding back tears.

Most of us here on SBN follow our respective teams pretty intensely, and we know all about the top prospects. In the process we get to know a little about other teams’ young prospects as well. I’ve been hearing about Adenhart for a few years now, and was really looking forward to seeing him pitch against the Rangers a few times a year at the Ballpark. What awful, awful news. Condolences to his family and friends, and to Angels fans as well.

You know, I've been wondering why this felt so familiar to me...
Does anyone remember the Padres pitching prospect Gerik Baxter…? He was my next door neighbor growing up…he was a top pitching prospect, averaging about 10 K’s per 9, coming up the ladder at the same time as Peavy…then in the summer of 2001, I was on vacation and we saw on the news that he had been killed in a car accident, not becasue of alcohol but because they weren’t wearing seat belts…Nick was obviously more of a victim, as Gerik should’ve worn his seat belt…but still…it’s not fun to have something trigger a memory like that…
Because Gerik is still in my thoughts, Nick will be staying there too.

I can’t imagine how devastating this must be for his family and his teammates. It’s a sad day for baseball.

My deepest Condolences
To The family, friends, and fans of Adenhart!!

Listening to boras and hunter talk about him made me get all teary-eyed. Especially seeing boras so emotional with adenhart’s jersey draped in front of him. I’m a giants fan, but some things are just bigger than the sport. From everything I’ve heard, Nick seemed like a great guy…so young. To everyone who died in the accident, rest in peace.

The more today goes on..
the more i’m really struggling with this. It’s just so….senseless.
Last night Nick showed lots of grit. He was getting better with each inning, until by the 6th he was really showing the fans something special. I went to bed thinking it was such a shame that the bully didn’t keep up their end of the deal for him.
I also was thinking that Nick would be doing that alot more for the club over the years.
And now this. It’s despairing.
This is just a horrible, horrible day.
God bless you Nick. You will always be in our hearts.

I have been running around the County all day long, doing my job, meeting lots of people.
Everybody is in disbelief.
And I understand.
I keep coming back here and, defying all logic and intellect, I keep hoping that these threads and these comments are not going to be here, that it did not really happen, that this is not real, and that a very fine young man form a very fine family with a very bright future is still among us and having a great day.
It is just not right. It is wrong. And right now reality is too confusing.
Stirrups - April 9, 2009
...one of those times when logic and intellect simply fail.
Trying to find a measure of sense in the senseless…
Stunned…just…stunned.
sothball - April 9, 2009
I wish it was a bad dream
every time they show that jersey on the table, the fans crying at the stadium, Boras breaking down…it just can’t be REAL!

I’m Korean and a Cards fan. I didn’t have enough confidence in my English so I’ve been only lurking around for more than a year, never posting…
However, this horrible, horrible news finally took me out of my cave.
Rest in peace, Nick.
My thoughts are with his family, the families of other people killed, the Angels orginazation and fans.

Really Sad Day
This is such a terrible story. This kid looked like he had it all going for him. Most importantly…more than his talent…he just seemed like a really good guy. The story about him telling his father not to miss the game because something special was going to happen just about tears your heart out. I’m not an Angel fan, but I lived in Orange County for 15 years and have attended hundreds of Angel games. Because I am a baseball fan first and foremost. But I know how passionate Angel fans are. And I know a lot of you are hurting over this loss. It’s a big loss. It’s going to take time to get over it. But believe me, in time you will. I still shed a tear every August 2 when I remember our Captain, Thurman Munson. When he died so tragically, we Yankee fans thought we could never recover. But we did. Why? Because we had to.
So will you.
I’m very sorry for your loss.

RIP Nick Adenhart
As a Mariners fan, I may loathe the Angels on the field, but no man on any team warrants this sort of tragic death. One silver lining to take from this is that at least Nick Adenhart’s baseball career ended, however suddenly, on a high note. May Andrew Gallo face the proverbial gallows for driving drunk with a suspended license and then having the gall to flee the scene after the accident. How sad that a promising young man’s life ended because of this. Throw the book at Mr. Gallo.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

My condolences to the Adenhart family, the Angels organization, and Angels fans. Truly a senseless tragedy

I’m in Fresno tonight covering the Grizzlies’ season opener and they observed a moment of silence for Nick Adenhart. It was a very nice gesture.

I cant stop crying today
I met Nick in 2005 when he played for the rookie club Provo Angels. We talked for a few minutes, about pitching, setting up batters, thinking 2 or 3 pitches ahead. I KNEW then he was going to be a great one. Not a good one, a GREAT one. And last night, he was a GREAT one. I wasn’t able to watch the game, but followed it on Yahoo gamechannel.
I saw Adenhart grow before my eyes. in the first two innings, I saw him throwing 1st pitch balls to batters. By the 5th inning, he was throwing 1st pitch strikes. huge strides in just one game.
Nick became GREAT in the span of 6 innings.
I had become a fan of Nick from the time I found out about his TJ surgery. Like the rest of America, I love an underdog.
From the time I met Nick, I had a renewed interest in his career. Less than a week after I talked to him, he pitched the Provo Angels to the league championship.
I followed his career to Cedar Rapids, and then Rancho Cucamonga, back east to Arkansas, and then to Salt Lake. I felt keenly his disappointment in his ML debut last May, and was so excited to see him make the opening day roster. I was looking forward to him making a significant contribution. Though many on this website doubted the Angels ability to compete due to the injuries to the SP, I had no doubts Adenhart would excel. With that offense behind him, and his electric stuff, I knew he would be fine. Indeed, he was GREAT.
I’ve been in tears all day. My favorite player is gone. My favorite player is gone, just when he first reached GREAT.
Nick signed 3 baseball cards for me, on that August evening in 2005.
Funny how baseball makes us all little boys again.
Today, I looked at those cards, and all I can ask is Why? What might have been?
3 lives have been lost today. Yet I also mourn a 4th life lost. Mr. Gallo’s life has ended, as well. That he could not learn, that our legal system could not help him learn from his mistakes, is also a tragedy. It will be a hard burden for him to bear what he has done. God forgives. I hope he seeks that forgiveness, and rises from the ashes he has made of his life.
But most of all, I hope the Adenhart family can go forward knowing his name rests forever in our hearts. I hope they carry the pride of the Halo Nation with them always. I hope God provides that comfort only He can give.
God bless, Nick. God bless your family and all those who have been affected.
Dry our tears, and warm our hearts with your memory. We who never knew you, yet know you so well, will never forget.

I woke up to 5 text messages
telling me about this tragic event. These text messages were from non-baseball friends or non-Angels fans. I then came here to see what was really going on.
As I read all the comments that have been posted, it has brought tears to my eyes because of all the things said and has given me a little more faith in other teams fans and people in general.
My thoughts & prayers are with the Adenhart & the other 3 victims immediate & extended families.
I won’t say I hope this guy dies a horrible painful death, I personally hope he lives for a long time & sees the faces of those whose lives he took so unnecessarily every time he closes his eyes sober or drunk.

Condolences From M's Fan
This transcends baseball and rivalries. Best wishes to the Adenhart family, friends, and the Angel org.
Also to the fans. Every day and breath is a gift. Best wishes to all of you. I lost a friend years ago from a red light runner. It’s a pet peeve – hate that. Hope justice is served in some way somehow.

Sincere sympathy from a Padres fan
Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this loss.
The more I read about this tragedy, the more sadness I feel.
I am stunned into grasping for words.
Peace of mind to all of Nick’s family, friends and fans, also to the friends and families of the other people killed in this senseless crash.
A sweet, young life snuffed out just when he reached his goal.
Heaven has a new angel on its team.
RIP Nick Adenhart. Young man, you will be missed.

As a Mariner fan, this is terrible
I normally don’t care much or at all for the Angel players and fans, but this is the kind of tragic event that makes one ignore the logo on the jersey. When it comes down to it, a human life is much more important than a rivalry, especially a 22 year old human life.
RIP Nick Adenhart. Thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Words seem useless at a time like this. I saw Adenhart pitch in a game against the Cubs in spring training a couple of weeks ago. What potential. This is just so tragic. My thoughts and prayers go to all of Nick’s family, friends, teammates and fans.
