Q is one of those guys I envision being a coach someday. Not a real impact player, but a student of the game. Give him a break. He’s becoming a locker-room guy and Scioscia rewarded him for his “team-first” attitude.
Anyways, I don’t know about everyone else, but I am sick of these division championship banners and these massive clubhouse celebration bonanzas every time we clinch a playoff berth. The only thing that should be celebrated is a World Series championship. It’s not like we are the Pittsburgh Pirates or Kansas City Royals, who would kill to even have an above .500 season.
Never take any trip to the postseason for granted. I cannot tell you how painful it was that only 3 times out of 41 years had we ever tasted that champagne.
Break out the Cooks, baby! We’re celebratin’! Look at me, I’m Michael Phelps!! WOO HOO!
The Angels are now a top-tier franchise that shouldn’t rest its laurels on raising division title banners. However, winning the division is not an easy thing to do, especially year after year. Like you said, the Pirates and the Royals would love just a sniff of a playoff berth, but I also remember the days when it was the same for the Angels.
It’s important to celebrate these victories, even though they are not the ultimate goal.
3 in ’02, 2 in ’05, and one each for: 79, 82, 86, 04, 07 and 08.
So that is ELEVEN. There are 162 games a year. I went to my first Angels game in 1975 but lets say there wer four years’ worth of games that I spaced out on due to being strung out somewhere… that is 4,860 games… so that is one celebration for roughly every 440 baseball games… NOPE, not enough yet to get sick of these celebrations at all.
But those of us who remember how it felt when WE were the Pirates and Royals will never take being the big dogs lightly. Besides, the thread of good ownership is thin. If (God forbid) anything should happen to Arte, what becomes of the Angels? There’s no guarantee we get that lucky again.
So enjoy this feeling of being among the best every year, because there’s no way to know when it will end, or how long it may be before such Halcyon days return.
Missing option
Because Arte likes his goofy swing.

Some "special agreement" between Q's wife and Arte?
sothball - April 7, 2009

Ninja: Not until Del Taco starts coming up with some better combo deals.

Yep, my attendance at the “Del” has diminished since they discontinued the trio of $3 bargains. My colon is much happier now, though.

Is there going to be a pregame /guesses thread today?
Robb Quinlan is the “utility” man on the Angels, and there is a need for utility in raising that banner.

I think they are still recovering from the pregame, game pt1, game pt2 and postgame comment counts!!!
