Halos Heaven

Angels Take Home Opener over A's

Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 3, A's 0

Angels All-Star Lefthander Joe Saunders showed no signs of regression on the mound as his opening day start at Angel Stadium Monday night was a dominant performance over the division rival Oakland Athletics.

Put a brick on the stadium entrance pitching mound for Hokie Joe, as Juan Rivera, Vlad Guerrero and Howie Kendrick tossed in two hits each, one of Howie's was a solo HR to the formerly cheap seats. Bobby Abreu got his only hit of the night in his first plate appearance.

The Athletics threatened, but a great slap of leather by Shortstop Erick Aybar on a groundball caught former team mate Orlando Cabrera too far off of 2nd Base. Kendrick applied the tag on the veteran and Aybar could have quoted Darth Vader to Obi Wan: "Cabrera, you were once the master and I the pupil but now I am the master."

Brian Fuentes made his debut wearing a Halo with a 1-2-3 9th inning for the save.

Hokie Joe is a beast.

RAWR

Who got the save???

No dance and looking up for Fuentes.

WooHoo Opening Day Shutout

He pointed to the sky

sorry to burst the bubble

I didn't want to disillusion him.
seen it on the replay

so I guess it is official

Light it up!

1 for 1!!!!
Love the Hookie Joe start
The Howie Kendrick Bat!
The Arrendondo and Fluentes Bullpen!
All looking good!
Light up that Halo!

Howie for Panther!
I love the game by Howie.

But Joe “What is this ‘Regression’ you speak of” Saunders gets the Panther.

+1. Howie was great. Saunders even better.
Agreed.

Big assist to Howie, and the defense by Figgy, Aybar et al, but gotta give it to the Colonel when it’s all said and done. Second straight season with a Shutout his first start.

He's never lost a MLB game in April

wow.

Thats not a jinx?
Only if you point it out
they mentioned in on the teevee today

so if anybody jinx’d it, it was them, not me. lol.

gotta give the panther to the colonel

but howie’s bomb was nice

we'll see many more 3-0, 3-1, 3-2 games

Typical Halos.

Hey, as long as the Halo is lit, fuggettaboutit!

Oh and that last hit by Nomar's probably off the wall in Denver. Welcome to

Anaheim, Brian.

POTG

Saunders pitched a gem, especially when it looked like the offense wasn’t gonna pick him up. Light up that Halo!!!!

If Howie doesn't muff that DP ball, it's close

But what a way to set the tone when three starters are down….

Colonel leads his troops to a win.........

panther.

I like the poll

nice to see HH becoming more democratic.

you had to say that 'd' word out loud, huh?
d is for defense

also double play and donuts

or...Doubles, Howie
i got tired of people whining about my choices...

AH the troubles confronting a dictator…

Stalin’s solution would have been to shoot you all.

Ah...benevolent dictatorships are OK.

Unfortunately, Stalin wasn’t so benevolent.

We have nothing to lose but our chains
Should make Alice happy.
in her restaurant
Chained to the counter?
Kiss my grits!
Dammit!

I’m old enough to remember that!

what a beautiful day

what could be better than Saunders et al shutting out the green and gold scum on opening day? Ignore the rest of the shit, even Stalin could smile once in a while.

And Stalin’s name, btw, was Joe …

Nickname??

When he inevitably goes to the Skankees, maybe?

Er, rather

Just “goes to the Skankees,” not inevitably, but goes?

LONG LIVE THE CRIMSON CHIN!!
Angels 3, A's 1?

wasn’t it 3-0?

thanks for catching that
anything i can do to help

you do a great job!

that would be Angels 3 A'ss 0 not 1
thanks for catching that
It's okay.

After all the talk about how big and bad their new offense was, you naturally assumed they managed at least 1 run off our injury depleted staff.

BTW

the star wars quote is

Before I was but a learner, now I am the master.”

Only a master of evil
like i said at the end of the game thread..

we’re 1-0 now, so the 162-0 dream is still alive!

Honorable panther mention to the Rev's dog.

Not sure which gave more licks in the video…

1866 Baseball say:

All my friend study this match in detail. We can find no flaw in luminous performance of Angels team, which is now my our favourite team. The Oakland team showed no resistance power. Giambi-san must need to sit in dugout where luminous brother sat, perhaps on syringe of luminous resistance power.

My friend and I tip our noodle to “Jokie Ho” Sanders and his crispy chicken pitches.

Much ruck … 1866 base-a-ball

I was thinking about a burger for dinner...

…now I’m considering sushi.

YUMMMM I'll meet you...that sounds good right now
Hot Sake! Yeah...oh yeah. That's the answer.
the hubby & I go to this place by our house...it's freakin awesome
we have the best place on the east coast

get the New Hartford roll

OK. That's it. I'm heading out now...

…sashimi, nigirisushi, california rolls, some wasabi. Mmmmm. Have a great evening all. Go Halos!!

Gotta break this quote out for the first time this year

<<Oh, I hated the Colonel with is wee beady eyes, and that smug look on his face. “Oh, you’re gonna buy my chicken! Ohhhhh!”>>

Way to go Colonel!

Suck it Choakland!

Don't forget the

The Queen, the Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothchildes…

“Ayyy, he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave fer it nightly…. SMART ASS!”

Let's hope our Colonel doesn't go "teets up"
I'll take a bucket of original recepie from the Colonel

with a side of 3 hits, hold the runs. Good job by Hokie Joe. Glad the season has finally started!

What was Howie's BABIP tonight?

He sure looked lucky, didn’t he? My statistical model proves that he can’t continue to hit like that….

Fuentes...

That 3/4 arm slider he throws is NASTY.

its kind of weird

how he like chucks the ball tho. looks like every pitch is gonna be a knuckler.

Yeah, I noticed.

I told my buddy, “If it wasn’t for the 90mph thing, I’d say he throws like a girl”.

No offense intended to any female HH’ers.

I said the same thing...then changed it to he throws like a flaming gay guy.

… no offense to same gender friendly HH’ers.

of course not

though I can throw much better than my flaming gay guy friends.

Don't underestimate...

With the assistance of the smart nerds, Lamarr Latrell could throw a javelin much further than the jocks! No offense to jocks or nerds intended, you know.

you made me look that one up! Yeah, that's it!
Fuck yeah!

Sorry kids but that’s an F-bomb that you shouldn’t speak until you’re at least old enough to know what it means.

Feels good to win, feels extra special good to win on Day 1 and feels extra super special to know the bats will be better than they were tonight.

Learn youngsters, learn what it takes to hold a division rival to 0 runs on 3 hits. And especially learn what a “quick inning” means. IF popups rule.

*Fhew*

Results are up.

thnx, i noticed

good job!

scottnak, I picked Mathis to get a first hit which he did.

I should have scored a 3 instead of the 2 you gave me. Thanks for taking on this job of scoring again this year.

Nice catch!

I’ve updated the mistake on the file in my computer.
Thanks for catching it.

Thanks for the fix, and nice to have you back!
awesome

to see howie go deep tonight. didn’t he only have 3 all season in 08? looks like he’s headed for a nice season. saunders though. big panther. especially since he’s on my fantasy team! woo!

On pace for 162 jacks...

Unless he becomes unlucky all of a sudden.

Actually, Hokie Joe

looked a little uptight at first — understandable under the circumstances, but the D helped him out and he settled down.

Angel Pitching and Angel Defense

Get past that!

Another great thing tonight...

We were nice to OC, but Roid-Boy Giambi got booed every time he stepped to the plate.

On Angel Talk, one idiot asked Terry why Roid-boy got booed!

just got back from the game

The Colonel was GREAT tonight, and Howie was, indeed, the man. :P

feels good to have the season underway.

I hope somehow my Del Ninja shirt arrives tomorrow

so that i can sport it to the game tomorrow night

Great 1st game

Couldn’t ask for better. Our All-Star pitcher came through. That’s why he is an All-Star.

Win!

(900 hours in photoshop)

Good Win, But...

Some less-than-impressive D. Kendrick made that error and both Rivera and Aybar misjudged some borderline foul balls. The A’s kept it close thanks to their darn good defense; there were 3-4 plays I’m not sure the Angels would have made. Thank Arte that Torii’s patrolling center.

I bet Aybar/Morales make the throw-and-catch on Guerrero's grounder.

Also, the pickoff of OC at second. They actually HAD a chance to do the same thing (against a much slower Rivera), and didn’t. Ellis wasn’t as heads-up as Howie.

I was surprised

that it wasn’t ruled an error. Nomar had it and dropped it. I could see it being scored E-6 or E-3, but was very surprised to see it ruled a hit.

that WAS an error all the way. But, you gotta get Vladdy started on that march to 100 ribbies somehow.

The problem was, if it was an error, who was it on.

Because the ball was so deep in the hole, to expect a SS to make the play at all was unreasonable. Since OC did make a play and make a throw, albeit on the grass, it wouldn’t have been fair to charge him with an error on the play. Nomar maybe should have picked it but you cant really charge you with an error either. Got to be a hit.

Error can be charged to OC or Mr Hamm...

however, the throw was right there and had Vladdy beaten by a step or two. No way you cannot charge an error when the throw gets there ahead of the runner. I could see your point if Vladdy had nearly beaten the throw, but no … he was out by ~ 5,280 feet on that play. ;)

while I agree that Kendrick's error on the DP ball was bad you are nuts

about the “misjudged” “borderline” foul balls. Give me a break.

Both were catchable

Both were not caught. When I say “borderline”, I mean that they were catchable. I know that Aybar’s wasn’t far from new fan seating, but it was still catchable, and Rivera showed his limited range as well.

Figgins played some excellent 3B, though.

The A's missed a "catchbable" foul ball in right due to Jack Cust being slow.

Favorite defensive blunder I saw in person last year was cust blowing a catch on a lazy liner … it was a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, Custy got the last laugh with a game-winning jack later in the same game.

Was last night worth 4.5 Pythagorean wins?
Erm...what happened to the game topics?

Go look at the left or right sidebar under “game threads.” My guess is that Rev doesn’t want to clutter the front page with game threads only with meaty content. Cheap filler moves to the sidebar.
