Jered Weaver is carrying the Ace for the Angels quite well. Torii Hunter is carrying the team at the moment. It all added up to a taste of home cookin' giving the Angels a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.
Manager Mike Scioscia was not around to see it, though, having been tossed by Home Plate Umpire Tim Timmons in the 6th inning over an argued pitch to Mike Napoli. The laughingly low pitch was called a strike by Timmons, who left his white cane back at Disneyland, but called the action over the plate like the Mad Hatter.
After the ejection, though, it was Gary Matthews Jr hollering Off With Their Heads when he belted a deeeeeep double to score Torii Hunter from 2nd base in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hunter had walked and taken 2nd on a deep flyball to left by Kendry Morales.
Matthews was almost the goat when he dropped a foul ball with 2 outs in the 9th, forcing Brian Fuentes to struggle for a few batters before getting a Timmons-wide strikeout to end the game.

If Hula doesn't tag GMJ is still a douche.

Panther to Torii
For somehow drawing a walk with that strike zone.

A strike is not always a strike.
Let’s get on a roll…starting…now.

Voted for Weaver....
We know the bullpen sucks. He knows the bullpen sucks. And he went out and pitched like it. Must be deflating to a SP knowing that the bully right now can’t pick you up.

Fuentes and the dropped GMJ ball made me nervous
A win is a win though
stolenbases - April 21, 2009
Right now everything is making me nervous
When our starting pitching is doing its job, I’m worried about our bully blowing it. When were up to bat, I’m worried about us not capitalizing and moving the runners and scoring runs. When we get rallies going, I’m worried because we always seem to have 2 outs. With no clutch hitting. In short, the whole season to date has been a never ending 9th inning with K-Rod on the mound.
halofolife - April 21, 2009
Someone didnt celebrate 4/20 properly
Seriously though, not everything will be perfect ever. A win is a win is a win, and we should be happy.
linkbruin - April 22, 2009

Am I doing something wrong?
Not a big deal, really, but I keep not showing up in the spreadsheets for this whole points game, and unless I’m crazy, I should’ve gotten three tonight…
Zoe Necrosis - April 21, 2009
are you adding a comment ot hte pregame thread
with your picks TOO … you gotta add both so that we know it is really you – spreadsheet and thread comments.
Rev Halofan - April 21, 2009
Did you forget to hit the "submit button" after you entered the picks?
44FAN - April 21, 2009
There's no record of you in the forms...
Are you using the forms?
If you are, did you check the link above the form that shows it being updated (knowing it updates every 5 minutes)?
If both answers are yes, then please tell me.
If not, then be more careful.

Definately adding comments
And definitely using the forms…
But I haven’t yet been checking this thing that apparently will tell me if my picks went through?

LosAngelesRavensFan52 - April 25, 2009
I was SO worried that Fuentes was going to blow it AGAIN
Thank God the umpire was retarded because that last pitch was obviously ball 3, it seems like with Fuentes EVERY pitch counts. With him so far its been 1 strike away and then about a second later he’s already taking the loss and he’s only pitched in four games!
Man I miss K-Rod all of a sudden, but you don’t know what you got till its gone.
TheAntiSox - April 21, 2009
No love for GMJ??
The dude delivered nicely on something that a lot of people around here (including myself) have been whining about… CLUTCH HITTING
As in with runners in scoring position.
Torrii making it to 2nd was gutsy, but that’s just aggressive base running which Angels players are expected to do.
3rd Echelon - April 21, 2009
I issued some love...
but got bitch-slapped by “bullets”
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009
Bitch-slapped?
Is this another one of your terrible jokes? Didn’t mean to sound harsh, but the truth’s the truth. If Hula doesn’t tag GMJ hits a double and we got men on 2nd and 3rd. I saw at least 2 plays in the field tonight that your boy could’ve made but didn’t. There’s no debate.
P.S. It’s spelled Bullits
ReggieBullits - April 21, 2009
Yep, gotta go with my MO, RB. Terrible jokes. See, you took it seriously and believed that a “quoted” spelling of your handle was fuhreal. classic! Be good, man!
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009
Well then apologies for apologizing. I thought you were offended. Why do I care?
ReggieBullits - April 21, 2009
I don't care either...
arguing over “panther of the game” is gay.
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009
but if torii isn't gutsy on that play
HGH never gets a chance to be the hero. AND HGH dropped that foul ball for the last out..
b0rd3rline - April 21, 2009
crucify him!!!!!
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009
Yeah but...
Let’s say Torii rips off 2nd. Cool. But what if GMJ strikes out instead of getting a double? Who’s the Panther? Torii still?
3rd Echelon - April 22, 2009
At that point we probably look for BotG
Because it will wind up in extra innings
red floyd - April 22, 2009
Well, Rhett Bollinger at MLB.com
Thinks that GMJ is “Panther” Look at the title of his game re-cap…
Matthews gives Halos needed win
Someone better send him the memo…
3rd Echelon - April 22, 2009
Kendry Morales getting Screwed by Score Keepers????
Today’s At Bats……
AB#1 Infield Single 1-1
AB#2 Walk 1-1 BB
AB#3 K 1-2 BB
AB#4 Hunter to second on a SF to LF……..1-2 BB SF
In the box score it says 1-3 BB. Thats bull, he aint doing to good and now he gets screwed!!!!
acuda27 - April 21, 2009
you only get credit
for the sac fly if a runner scores. if its a fly ball advancing the runner from 1st to 2nd, its just an out.
b0rd3rline - April 21, 2009
I see what your saying but when you move a runner over and you get out its a Sacrifice
so it still should not count as an AB.
When you bunt a runner over its not an AB as well.
acuda27 - April 21, 2009
i agree with you that it would make more sense
but you still only get credit for a sac fly if it scores a run.
b0rd3rline - April 21, 2009
I know I already agreed it was not a sac fly but it was a sacrifice so it should not be an AB
acuda27 - April 21, 2009
MLB Rule 10.02(a) (1):
(1) Number of times batted, except that no time at bat shall be charged when a player
(i) hits a sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly;
(ii) is awarded first base on four called balls;
(iii) is hit by a pitched ball; or
(iv) is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction;
Rule 10.08 (d)
The official scorer shall
(d) Score a sacrifice fly when, before two are out, the batter hits a ball in flight handled by an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield in fair or foul territory that
(1) is caught, and a runner scores after the catch, or
(2) is dropped, and a runner scores, if in the scorer’s judgment the runner could have scored after the catch had the fly been caught.
A fly ball that advances the runner when the runner does not score is not a sacrifice and counts as an at bat.
Halo84653 - April 22, 2009
So even though he flew into a double play
He still gets the sac and the RBI? I know if you ground into a double play that’s no RBI, but this was quite different.
AlanFalcon - April 23, 2009
Isn't a SAC still an AB?
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009
Nope
acuda27 - April 21, 2009
It is a Plate Apperance but not an AB.
acuda27 - April 21, 2009
call the scorer...
as the defender of all things morales, it is your sworn duty to protect the honour of Sir Kendry Morales, Sir Acuda.
Downing Rules - April 21, 2009

I would if I could…….but I dont even know who keeps score.
acuda27 - April 22, 2009

Just like last year. Another win for Dondo, cardiac save for our reliever. NOW we’re back on track.
vladtheimpaler - April 22, 2009
Winner!
Wow, I got 3-3 on my picks and what I really wanted. A LIT HALO!
I find it hard not to give our pitchers credit where it’s due, so I voted Weaver. It goes as a ND in the books, but it’s a win to me!
Nothing aganist Torii. <3 me some Hunter.
