Final Score from Chavez Ravine: Angels 2, Dodgers 6
Preseason work at night:
Dustin Moseley threw 80 pitches, 50 for strikes, giving up 3 ER in a pitchers park. The lack of outfield range in the Angels' defense is going to make Andre Ethier's Triple a common thing this season.
Vladimir Guerrero had a 2-Out RBI, so that is worth something.
Brian Fuentes looked awesome in his 1-2-3 7th inning. Some of those swooping curves (maybe you call them sliders) to righthanders were beautiful twists of batter-caught-looking-teases.
But that was about it for the good news, where the Halos couldn't buy a hit besides 8 lousy singles, ironically the one hit in the 8th inning by AAA casualty Brandon Wood being the hardest-hit of the night. The Angels are demoting the guy who squared up the ball the best tonight.
Jose Arredondo had a bit of batting practice fever, surrendering a run on some hard hit balls. But it doesn't count and maybe he working on stuff. Maybe.

I vote Abreu since Torii and Howie at least walked once.

slackluster performance.
I voted for Abreu as well, though there could have been a team vote.

I voted for Howie. Still bitter. Need meds.

I am like T.O.
Waaaayyyyy too important to get involved with pre-season practices. Call me when the season starts. And oh, make sure my pedicurist and masseuse preps me before I can participate.

I couldn't pick. My hamstring has been bothering me and Coach has me shut down.

Picked up right where I left off! Zilch!

When it's close
The new guy always get the blame. Bobby A.
vladtheimpaler - April 3, 2009
Just cause he left the Bronx doesn't mean he won't hear the appropriate cheer.
sothball - April 3, 2009
Yeah, but, is it all-temperature cheer?

Why does Moseley look so old in this photo?
I could have sworn it was Don Sutton. Wierd

HAHA
I didn’t pay close attention to the pic at first but it does look like Sutton!

Moseley
doesn’t deserve a win for that pitching performance, so the other guys are off the hook in my book.

I might get flamed for this, but
I didn’t think Moseley looked all that bad last night despite what the stats say. His fastball had nice movement and he kept his pitches down for the most part. The Doyers just got some good hits on decent pitches. Blake was almost crouching when he hit that HR; the ball wasn’t up in the zone. More of a good hitting performance by the Blew Crew than a bad outing by Moseley.
Maybe I’m being too nice, but this was one of the few games Moseley started where I wasn’t screaming at him through my TV.

No flames from me. I agree...he looked like a decent #4 or #5 starter.
sothball - April 3, 2009
My sentiments exactly. He looked like he was in control most of the time.

It was hard to decide between Bobby, Torii or Howie so I just picked who was first on the list

Something people forget about Dodger Stadium
is that while it’s generally hit-suppressive, it very slightly favors home runs. That said, Ethier’s bomb was a no-doubter halfway up the bleachers.
I have a very bad feeling about April; it may take a long while for the Angels to recover, especially since they’re going to be throwing out a bunch of junk pitchers for a month and a half against some of the best teams in the league early on.

it very slightly favors home runs.
True. Only 395 to dead-center.
