I picked the right day to get up early and help my girlfriend at an art festival. Just got back and cannot even bring myself to read about it.
In other news, if you think attendance at baseball games is down, you should try outdoor art exhibits in 97 degrees on the same weekend as Coachella during a recession... (RevHF)
BOTG: Kendrick (unanimous)

tough choice
ZiK - April 19, 2009
LOL nice choices.......
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
gotta go with kendrick
with howie a close second.
clover_black - April 19, 2009
I was thinking Howard
But yeah, it could just as easily go to Kendrick or Howie.
AlanFalcon - April 20, 2009
Kudos to Shane Loux...
…he did everything we could have asked and more!
Sloppy Defense and piss poor fundamentals will cost you nearly everytime!
K3YEROUT - April 19, 2009
<3 Loux
Let’s hope we make it up to him in his next 20 starts.
AlanFalcon - April 20, 2009
is it safe to assume howie isnt going to be blossoming into that all star franchise 2B anytime soon?
ihearhowie2.0 - April 19, 2009
Come on
I feel bad for Howie. Everyone is riding him so hard. Give the guy a break.
King Fish - April 19, 2009
would you feel bad for gary matthews or justin speier if theu had the exact same type of games?
ihearhowie2.0 - April 19, 2009
Howie doesn’t make millions of dollars, complain about playing time, or argue with people just to look tough. For someone who’s come up through the Angels organization and always been a nice guy, I think people are turning on him too quickly.
King Fish - April 19, 2009
i dont see anyone "turning on him"
but arent we allowed to call a spade a spade? If he’s playing poorly, he’s allowed to be criticized like everyone else. Nobody is saying hes not important to the future, just that he presently looks crappy. there are no sacred cows on this team.
ihearhowie2.0 - April 19, 2009
agree
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
Yeah Guys!
You know you reads this site nightly and takes everything you say to heart.
Stop being so mean!
PhiSlamma - April 19, 2009
Results up
Not many hits today alas in our game either.
scottnak - April 19, 2009
not to nitpick or anything......
but on the spreadsheet……in the total number of people played it says 77………………..but if you add up the numbers on who scored 1 and 0 points…….it equals 78…….
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
Weird.
the excel file on my computer has the number of 0 point scorers as only 52. whereas its 53 online.
Something must’ve gotten warped in the transfer. (Maybe counting an empty square as 0)
shrug
scottnak - April 19, 2009
not that it really matters either way........
just letting you know…….keep up the awesome work!
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
quick correction
Hey just like norcaliangel fan, I’m not meaning to nitpick, but I picked MIN to score 3 runs, and didn’t get the point…. Thanks, I appreciate it
SMUangelFan - April 19, 2009
You didn't comment.....
You must comment in the pregame thread. Submit your picks, AND put your picks in a comment.
Figgi4life - April 19, 2009
My Fault
That was my fault, I was submitting my picks from my phone, and could not comment….
SMUangelFan - April 19, 2009
then you need to put that in the comments for Scott to have mercy on your pickages
ladybug - April 19, 2009
Catch-22?
Clutch - April 19, 2009
no, just keeping the lines of communication open for him
he understands road blocks. I have a BB and can’t post on HH either.
ladybug - April 19, 2009
for your reference
IMPORTANT: If you cannot use the form [google.com is down, your workplace has banned googleForms, etc.] you must CLEARLY NOTE IT and post your picks in the comments. Otherwise I will glance over the post, thinking you didn’t read the instructions.
ladybug - April 19, 2009
Ah. I see what the problem is
When you use HH on the phone, you get redirected to a mobile version.
Thing is, when you’re in mobile-HH you can’t post a comment.
I know on the mobile version, there’s a link to go to the full version, which might be able to let you post? I’m not sure, I haven’t tried going that route on a mobile yet.
Unfortunately I can’t think another way around it yet… see if the above methods help… There must be a way you can find a computer otherwise I hope?
Shoot me an email: (my screenname) at gmail if it proves to be impossible or something.. we’ll work something out hopefully
scottnak - April 19, 2009
yes, on BBs you can view but not post on HH but since you are using Google docs, it is accessible
ladybug - April 19, 2009
Yeah, just irony
He can’t post a comment because was on the BB when posting picks. Yet in order to qualify, has to comment that he can’t comment. Funny! :-D
Clutch - April 19, 2009
maybe it can be squeezed in next to your name, ie ladybug mobile
and scott would know it was a mobile post?
ladybug - April 19, 2009
I've done the same thing
I’ve tried submitting my picks from my mobile phone as well because a lot of days I’m gone from the computer all day until after the game starts. You can use the google docs form just fine from the mobile version of the website but SB Nation still doesn’t have a way for comments to be made from a mobile phone. Also the full version of the website does not work well (at least for me) over a non-iPhone. Since then, I’ve just tried to do my best to get to the picks before I get as long as they’re posted early enough.
turs12 - April 20, 2009
scottnak: Not sure if I didn't click submit on the form, but I didn't see my name on the spreadsheet
I picked 6-11 and 4-10, which would have got me 1 point. Here’s the LINK to my picks in the comments.
Not sure if this is why the numbers don’t add up. And if I was a bonehead and didn’t submit the form, no worries — I’ll take the zero.
Big Easy Halofan - April 19, 2009
44FAN - April 19, 2009
do they have to use a trampoline to get in that thing?
dang
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
They must have a spring in their step.
44FAN - April 19, 2009
I blame Soth for the loss.
Anyone that Q should A be playing RF while B hitting 3rd in the lineup should be taken to a mental institute.
Also I’m glad to see Fuentes get so much work in high leverage situations in this series. I mean the Angels are paying him how much and hit sat in the bullpen against the Twins top two lefties with the game on the line with 2 outs in the 8th. Soth might have ruined the whole season with that decision.
MH252525 - April 19, 2009
its not exactly Soth's style to bring in a closer when behind in the 8th inning....
hasnt done it before IIRC and probably wont ever do it……
He’s just trying to bide time until he can get a healthy club again……and one that doesnt have a heavy heart.

Lose
44FAN - April 19, 2009
according to Fangraphs
Figgins is the worst, followed by rivera then howie. But i dont think it takes defense into account, which really pushes Howie to the top
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
there is tons of stuff fangraphs doesnt take into account......
which is why I rarely use it.
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
And tons of stuff it DOES take into account...
Maybe too much
Figgi4life - April 19, 2009
i find it extremely usefull as long as you know what your looking at
from a purely offensive run expectancy matrix (with how the result happened not taken into account) figgins was the worst, and howie third worst. Obviously there is alot of noise, such as looking awful and defense, which can vary greatly from game to game, making single game stuff inconclusive some times, but with a larger sample size it becomes much more accurate and useful
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
how is figgins the worst?
aybar?
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?!?!?!
Figgi4life - April 19, 2009
aybar is second best
1-2 with a BB
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
Aybar was on base 2 times today....
while Figgy went 0-4 and GIDP……..
so…..I could see how that makes him worse than Aybar
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
oh for just today
thought you meant season
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
WTF did he do?
When I last saw it was the 3rd inning, we were winning 1-0
Figgi4life - April 19, 2009
howie?
3 K’s and frankly they were all jokes of an at bats. didnt cover first on a bunt and gomes got a free pass. bobbled a double play that resulting in a run. then had an error that was ruled a hit for some reason. howie is not good at baseball currently.
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
Thank you, man was I confused...

LOSE
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
This pic should only be used for losses to the M's.
It’s the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
red floyd - April 19, 2009
I figured the collapse of the bridge is symbolic of the collapse
of our bridge from starter to closer aka middle relief
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
thick
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
That bridge is an engineering ethics case study
The Angels are a roster construction case study
Carl Johnson - April 19, 2009
it's safe to say
that this has been the worst month ever. seriously, if we get out of this month at .500 it will be a miracle
NW angels Fan - April 19, 2009
September 1995 takes some beating
The Limey - April 19, 2009
Can't beat September '95 in any April
I don’t care how high your expectations are.
AlanFalcon - April 20, 2009
Luckily I decided to sleep in and not watch this one
Sounds like it was awful
stolenbases - April 19, 2009
Loux was good....
Abreu was good…..
thats about it.
norcaliangelsfan - April 19, 2009
Thanks for the summary
Glad that Loux pitched good
stolenbases - April 19, 2009
Jepsen was good because he did'nt pitch today.
44FAN - April 19, 2009
Mathis didn't play catch with center field
baby steps
ladybug - April 19, 2009
Shit
he actually threw someone out too. Huge surprise!
angelskid2210 - April 19, 2009
questionable call tho
but gomez should have been off the base paths anyways because he was picked off and called him safe 5 minutes earlier.
TheAngelsAngels - April 19, 2009
I think the first tag just nipped the jersey
But I also think the umpire guessed. And that it hardly matters anymore.
AlanFalcon - April 20, 2009
Wow acuda
Predicting the no-hitter for Loux. Wish that would have worked out. Think of the stories one could tell.
matthiasstephan - April 19, 2009
was gonna say
wow, pretty optimistic
anaheim angels - April 19, 2009
And...
14 runs on 25 hits for the Angels…
Figgi4life - April 19, 2009
I was expecting the pitching to be suspect...
but the hitting? Vlad suddenly looks very, very old. Abreu has been awesome, Hunter has been very good and is now the heart & soul of this team. The rest of the line-up is frankly bad. KMo is “oh no”, Kendrick is swinging the bat like Howie Mandel, and the productivity of left side of the infield is an embarrassment.
1. B Abreu .362
2. T Hunter .308
3. J Rivera .289
4. C Figgins .256
5. V Guerrero .250
6. J Mathis .235
7. M Napol .231
8. K Morales .227
9. E Aybar .226
10. H Kendrick .213
11. G Matthews .176
12. M Izturis .143
13. R Quinlan .000
mustard_man - April 19, 2009
Figgins is drawing a ton of walks so he's not an embarrassment at least IMO
MH252525 - April 19, 2009
The website points out
That Aybar actually hit .350 on the road trip. Hopefully a sign he’s heating up….
Clutch - April 19, 2009
IF I offer Howie...
a dollar for every time he walks, what’s the most I could lose?
Doctor Wu - April 19, 2009
30 cents
ReggieBullits - April 19, 2009
that sounds about right
