Angels Defeat the Red Sox 6-3

If there was ever any doubt that Jered Weaver was not an integral member of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, his stud performance in the face of traumatic heartbreak was one of the great Angels pitching performances of the decade.

Eight strikeouts in any game are reason enough to smile, but Weaver gave the Angels and their fans something far greater. Jered Weaver lifted the Los Angeles of Anaheim fanbase back into seeing a sport of hope and promise instead of a tragic iteration of sad reality.

It can also be pointed out now that he was the winning pitcher in relief over the Red Sox in the ALDS, practically the lone postseason highlight for the Angels since at least 2005. What we have here is a Chowdkilla. Weaver spit in the bowl of clam chowder tonight and perhaps the Angels will have the swagger of a team of destiny instead of a beaten bunch following his lead.

Abreu and Figgins, Mathis under sad pressure of course, all with good games. This could have been the beginning of a turndown in team faith and energy. Instead, it may be the beginning of the end of our pain. (by Rev Halofan, thank to cupie for throwing this thread up at the game's completion)

Weaver

Jared pitched one hell of a game, when the team really needed it. He is the player of the game.

oh Dream Weaver......

I believe you get

Panther of the gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmeeeeee

Great Great Win!!

This one was needed!!

Actually scratch that.....

Panther…..

Nick Adenhart.

Light it

Bless everyone. Nice to win a baseball game, and classy gesture by Weav for tipping his cap upstairs for No. 34.

That halo lit up on the 57 is for you fella …

Arte should put a 34 on top of the Big A...

maybe that would be the city of Anaheim whatever…he could always do up the littler Big A in the stadium…

SPEAKING OF ARTE ...

the guy was out in the left field pavilion prior to the game shaking hands and posing for pictures. What a great guy.

I take it back

Nick is the player of the game. With a hat tip to Weaver.

great win!

willits called up from salt lake …

huh?

well okay then.

The day off yesterday sets us up for a 4 man rotation for a little while?

Saunders goes tomorrow then Moseley, then a day off and then the official site says Loux on the 14th in Seattle.

right

they were saying that we really dont need another pitcher til next Saturday

just what we need...another OF

interesting…Tony and MIke must be working the Pedro Del Taco angle or something…I really thought they would bring up a bullpen arm!

Emmmm ... at the risk of seeming insensitive

Perhaps this has something to do with a need for pitching depth

you can trade minor leaguers. CAlling him up does not effect his trade value
Panther = Weaver
Panther = Weaver

with a save from Adenhart.

And was it only me that noticed that it seems like Scoty Shields will be closing our games at least temporarily?

Way to go Scoty (with 1 T)

Great game

Angels have had a lot of chances lately to pad their lead but came up short. Nice to see Mathis put an end to that, and it turns out we needed those late runs. It was a happy time, good hitting, great pitching and baserunning, mostly good fielding. But everytime the camera went to #34 in center I started tearing up. Still can’t believe he’s gone.

It was so sad to see that on the wall ...

Nice to know that Nick saw a great game from up there somewhere. Good man. RIP

we should keep it there
I'd be surprised if they take it down this season.
i think he meant beyond this season
My guess

They’ll retire Number 34 after the season.

Weaver = Panther

great game for him, especially in memory of Nick. i was greatly impressed by him tonight

Gonna mix it up a bit...

Abreu = Panther

He was as advertised!
Gonna mix it up a bit...

Scot Shields for PANTHER with an extended save while Fuentes was already warm in the ’pen! Bizarre. I hope Brian is healthy.

Weav
To reply to myself...

6.2, 0ER, 8K

Little help from his friend^^^^^^
I went back and looked at nicks game thread.

When Adenhart was in trouble in his innings, i said “Does he earn his halo?”
And the answer is yes. he most certainly did.

Gotta go with Weaves for Panther

Can’t imagine the emotions he was dealing with on the field, at least early on. Thought it was super special that he broke routine and instead of writing his grandparent’s initials in the dirt on the mound he wrote NA. Athletes are a superstitious lot so I never would’ve expected that from Weaves.

The Healing Has Begun!
For some reason, this comment over at Over the Monster just INFURIATED me
So sad, he was a hell of a good prospect

I’d compare it to us losing one of the three killer B’s (Bucholz, Bowden, Bard)

Who gives two shits what kind of prospect he was? Christ, what a helluva thing to say. Makes my blood boil.

Thank God we got the win tonight for Nick and to shut those guys up.

I believe this was his way of trying to empathize.

I would suggest just trying to keep it mellow.

Well, I don't post over there so it'll stay 'mellow'

but man…it just doesn’t take THAT much human compassion to understand why this is more than just ‘too bad we don’t have that talent anymore,’ like a human life is secondary to a depth chart for the guy. There’s no indication in his post that he appreciates what was lost, other than rotation depth and it’s more than a little irksome to me.

casey..you are EMOTIONALLY involved here. They aren't

As cupie suggested, they are trying to emphathize with what they have. Unless you are personally involved, it just isn’t there, ya know? Unless you have experienced a loss, you can only imagine what it feels like.

And substitute “potential” for “prospect”. Nick had unbelievable potential that we sadly will never experience.

Apologies for going off topic but..

What a terrible idea.

oh no!
NIce job Dodger Management

There wasnt a horrible trajedy in major league baseball or anything

McCourt

A classic case of Tin Ear.

To be fair

the announcement was actually made April 8th, or has been public knowledge since then. It’s just that it’s just-now being picked up on. Bad timing, but not a ‘terrible idea’ anymore than when Arte did likewise.

Beers are now cheaper at Dodger Stadium than Angels Stadium

For the record, I wasn’t trying to relate it to what happened to Adenhart.

I haven’t gone back to that cesspool because of the way my wife and myself were treated by the punks getting off on the $8 beers and now they’re $2 cheaper.

Terrible idea.

You can still get a $4.50 14-ouncer

I don’t think Dodger Stadium gets them that cheap, although neither do they have them that small.

So basically, it’s a wash, since the budget-conscious at Angel Stadium have themselves AN option below 5 bucks.

But yes, Dodger fans + cheap booze = me watching FSN for interleague away games this year.

This despite the fact that I live 15-20 minutes closer to Dodger Stadium than Angel Stadium.

Weave' and Adenhart for sure

That Nick Adenhart In Memoriam bumper they do at the commercials nearly gets me every time. I hope they keep it up for a while.

You mean...

The pic of him?

It’s sad….And, have you noticed the “S” on his jersey is folded and not visible…

Yeah, the pic

Didn’t notice the S, though…man that just does it even more!

Weaver

NAILS NAILS NAILS in a very tough spot. Impressive.

Results are up
Huh?
Pregame guesses......

those results

Ohhhhh

Where?

In the top post

(you may have to refresh)

I'm not seeing mine, scott

not complaining… Thanks for the hard work, BTW

Oh. please complain if there's something missing

It doesn’t look like your name showed up on the form.

Do you clearly remember using it? If you’re absolutely sure, please tell me. It’s the first few days using this, so if there’s something wrong with the system I need to know.

If you’re not sure, mm… well can say I might relook at the leftover picks tomorrow. But tonight I’m just too tired to do another sweep, and remember to do both the form & post tomorrow :)

(To everyone) Remember, pointing out mistakes is VERY APPRECIATED. Don’t hold back any mistakes that might have occured.

Your new robot ate Funke5ive
Hey you

I’m Gunning for you this year! ;)

I do clearly remember using the form

However… I may have made a mistake in submitting it, and that may be my bad… that’s all I can think of. I did also post in the thread. It’s really no big deal to me Scott. Get your rest… I know with school and all… you work hard. Thanks, you are appreciated!

Guess I lost out on my 1 point

Pay attention folks Scott means business

Yeah...

I hadn’t refreshed….How do you enter your picks?

Oh...

And you’ve probably already figured this out, but I’m new here :)

read tomorrows pre game post
Okay...

Thanks

There will also be a post up shortly
just got home from the game.

Adenhart’s tribute was beautiful. My eyes were welling up. Geez! And then my girlfriend started crying cuz I was crying. Ugh, we were a wreck.

what got me was the tribute

followed by them playing the song during the fireworks.

Tough game, tough circumstances, tough team ...

tough group of supporters. Just the way Nick Adenhart would want it.

34

Great game.

My wife cried. I got choked up a bit too.

DreamWeaver was a frigg’n beast. The dude was on a mission.

Just back from the game - My thoughts

First of all, the tributes to Nick and his friends were great. I too was tearing up, especially when the guys stood with his jersey at the pitchers mound and when Torii touched the center field wall tribute before the 1st inning.

Great catch by GMJ to hold off a Boston charge. WTY pitched one of his best. Made several hitters look silly at times. Kept his fastball down and that was key. His is my panther for sure.

Now, to get on my soap box for a second….I thought it was a little out of touch to see the many tailgaters out drinking it up. I understand your rights, but come on. There still were drunks around the pavilion area, including one Angel fan who screamed to a Boston fan two inches from his face, “YOU SUCK” and some other choice words. Those people were ridiculous, and I’m ashamed to have them as fellow Angel fans. I hate the Red Sox just as much as the next guy, but the lack of any sort of class is reprehensible.

Also, for the Angels management. Don’t you think it was insensitive to have a banner ad all the way around the stadium saying something to the effect, “Southern Comfort: Welcome Home”…this was in like the 3rd inning. I know about contractual obligations and the like, but it was not a good thing at all.

I've never been comfortable with hard liquor ads at the park

but I think it is more unfortunate than it is insensitive. With all that they did do and all they have had to deal with, they could hardly have been expected to renegotiate a contract on the fly, or even really to think of it. With all due respect for your point, let’s give them a break here.

agreed

It’d have been impossible for them to take down all that stuff and/or not sell beer

Actually, this was not a fixed ad

It was displayed on the banner scoreboard on the facade of the club level that wraps around the stadium. I would have to think that they could have halted that ad for at least one game.

I agree with your sentiment

I just think with all the contracts and legal stuff it probably won’t happen. A part of me thinks that the PR department had to agonize over this kind of stuff before the game.

I saw many drunks in the stadium...

I thought they just might sober up for one night, especially a night I treated like a funeral. However, I did cheer very loudly for the Halos when they needed it.

What did Southern Comfort do?

Andrew Gallo was human filth. This “hombre” was on a one way path for destruction, with or without alcohol.

This isn’t a time to point the finger at anyone who has a beer or a company who pays for advertising at a stadium.

Might want to direct your anger/disgust at this pile of shit who murdered 3 people.

Fact remains - Alcohol was likely the main factor in the collision

I’m not pointing fingers at people enjoying a beer. I’m pointing fingers at people drinking too many beers, because they were being insensitive and disrespectful.

The SoCo ad was bad timing. Again, I have nothing against them. Just not the right time.

I’m not blaming alcohol…if you want to check on my opinions of Sh!thead Gallo…I think I made myself clear in other comments in other threads.

Here's my new avatar...

Nick Andenhart Panther

No ifs ands or buts about it… ;(

On a lighter note...

panther to whichever boston guy decided to intentionally walk GMJ. I saw that and when everyone booed I loled. I’d have let GMJ strike out and taken the extra out.

I lauged at that, too!!!
Angels weren't going to lose tonight.
I missed the game tonight

because I went to see Leonard Cohen and he sang a song called “Anthem” which really struck a chord.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.

Orderd myself a Red 34 Adenhart shirt

Adenhart shirts

go angels win it all for #34

they did it for all the right reason at the beganing of the game i also cry
