Top 100 Angels: Chone FIGGINS #19

#19 DESMOND DeCHONE FIGGINS - 3B/IF/OF - (2002 - Present)

Ranking on our post-2005-season All Time Angels List: #59 - LINK TO ARTICLE

Franchise Win Shares Rank: 17 (100 Regular Season Win Shares)

Single Season High-Ranking Accomplishments:

.330 BA in 2007 (Tied for 7th Place all time Angel Single Season rankings)

112 Runs Scored in 2005 (Ranks 10th all time)

17 Triples in 2004 (1st, Franchise Single Season Record)

62 Stolen Bases in 2005 (Ranks 2nd for Angel seasons, lead the AL that year)

All Time Franchise Rankings:

1st place Stolen Bases (238)

5th place Batting Average (.290)

10th place On Base % (.356)

10th place Runs Scored (482 in 3300+ Plate Appearances)

When compiling a list of Top 100 Angels, consider that FIggins was a core element of the '04, '05 and especially the '07 team, where he and Garret Anderson went on late season surges that guaranteed a return to the postseason after an 89-win 2nd place 2006 campaign.

With Figgins in the middle of it all, the Angels went to the postseason 4 times and had an 89-Win 2nd place team. Plus his awesome pinch running in 2002 was the first hint at the supersub mojo he brought to the team.

"punch running"

It’s like pinch running, except a little more aggressive. =)

Way to go Chone!

I thought it was like being punch drunk...

but faster.

I was about to get punched

by missus halofan if I didn’t get seated at the dinner table pronto while her cooking was hot and so in a pinch I typed PUNCH.

Love you figgy......

love you more if we can package you for someone and let B-Wood get a shot at 3rd…….

remember 2002...

i can’t believe its already been 6 seasons since the 2002 world series. But i remember the electricity that chone figgins brought to Angel Stadium during that september/october. Congrats on such a great career so far. Thanks for the memories from baseballtalktv.com

what

canned meat does this post smell like?

Nice I am convinced

I did not know his numbers ranked so highly in franchise history

Higher than I thought he would be

But looking at the numbers, well deserved.

An integral part to the recent Angels success

Definitely a good ranking jump for the speedy little fellow from Georgia.

My favorite Figgins defense:
October 2004, I was at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. Angels magic number is 1. Some thugs sitting behind me warn me “You’re sittin’ in the BLACK HOLE, baby! You better watch your back!” Later, their fury turns toward Figgins, as they yell “Hey, you’re just a stupid utility player.” So, I turn around and say loudly, “Yeah, a utility player that runs circles around your team.” They politely shut up for the rest of the game and the Angels celebrated the division title on-field later that day.

He has been

a great Angel, no doubt about it, but it is time for him to make room for the next great Angel. B-Woody!

Figgy is a stud!

and i hope we keep him!

Love me some Figgy

The best thing about Figgy is his ever present smile. He always is smiling. He strikes out and still smiles….wow did I just write 3 sentences about a dude’s smile?

Seriously, his 2007 season was something magical. Slappin’ the ball all over the yard like it was nothing.

It becomes easy to talk so loosely about trading this guy to the White Sox or Yanks

But let’s face it, we’ve got a fantastic speedster of a leadoff guy that we developed here, and if we just shipped him off and crossed our fingers that someone else would steal as many bases or play literally any position in the field, we’d likely be horribly disappointed. I’d love to see this guy call the Big A home for the rest of his career, because nobody does 1st to 3rd quite like Figgy.

How did we get this far without someone saying:

“Get Figgy with it?” Courtesy of our hyperactive announcer Rex Hudler.
