My wife and I try to get to the stadium around 9:00 AM.
The players are usually out on various practice fields around the stadium. It is generally low key..some fielding drills, BP, that kind of thing. Usually, you will find Scioscia on one of the fields working with the players on drills…hitting ground balls and offering encouragement/advice.
Then the players start heading back along “autograph alley” to the stadium. This is the time most fans will be as close as you can ever get to the players and coaches.
We usually have fairly low key evenings, cathching up on March madness at a bar/restaurant, or meeting friends/relatives that havealso made the trip to Mesa. There are lots of restaurants within 5 +/- miles of the stadium. If you are interested in a movie, there is a mall off of Baseline, about 3-4 miles south of the stadium.
3-4 years ago, the Suns had a game on Saturday night that we attended (that was when they were really dominant).
Eric Chavez felt some pain in his surgically repaired right shoulder while batting yesterday and he won’t play again for an undetermined time, at least several days.
When doing color, Ken Forsch dropped the tidbit that Arredondo was head case through 2007, when he got a sit-down chat from Preston Gomez. Everything good we know about Jose is a consequence of what happened after that chat.
Arredondo was a self-described "troublemaker" as he came up through the minor leagues, a prospect whose arm was clearly major league-caliber but whose temper threatened to derail him.
In June 2007, at double-A Arkansas, Arredondo threw a tantrum when he was pulled from a game and got into an altercation with veteran outfielder Curtis Pride, who was trying to calm Arredondo in the clubhouse afterward.
The Angels suspended Arredondo for a week and demoted him to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, where he brooded his way to a 2-4 record and 6.43 ERA in 28 games.
Arredondo had also been at Rancho Cucamonga in 2006 when he and catcher Michael Collins got crossed up, the right-hander firing a fastball when Collins expected a changeup. They then argued and fought in the dugout.

I know it is slower than Juan Rivera on the base paths but for those at work who cannot listen to the game…

Hey as an aside
I’m heading down to Tempe to catch some spring training games this weekend. Any advice on things to do or see (or things not to do or see)?

as long as your not allergic to college kids
its a great street with a ton of shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. Kinda like ASU’s version of UCLA’s westwood marketplace
ihearhowie2.0 - March 9, 2009
Hey, Moondoggy,

Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Come on Joe, get out of this one.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Why not just go home?
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Ah well, 2-1 A's.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Not sold on Aybar and Morales in same infield.
So I turn on my first ST game while working from home, and hear THAT…
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
On the other hand
that’s what spring training is about. ;-)
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Yeah, I get that. It was just the timing of it all, that's all.
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
I didn't hear...who is providing the "color" commentary?
Sounds corpse-like…
sothball - March 9, 2009
Ken Forsch?
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
Well...he was a great pitcher.
sothball - March 9, 2009
Just like Gerald Ford
Clutch - March 9, 2009
2-2 now BTW.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Any updates on Santana?
I get the sense that the injury is much worse than the Angels are letting on.
Fan Since 1981 - March 9, 2009
OK...Zu's falling asleep.
3-2 Angels on RBI single by Figgy in the top of the 5th…
sothball - March 9, 2009
Yeah, sorry, I had to leave.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
It allright...you do such a good job summarizing I was starting to miss 'em.
So, I did my best filling in.
sothball - March 9, 2009
Bottom of the 5th...
Arredondo got 2 quick outs, gave up a triple to Davis, then a K. To the top of the 6th we go…
sothball - March 9, 2009
Top of 6th Quinlan and Wood got 2 out hits...before the 3rd out. To the bottom of the 6th.

I don't recall the source, but I had heard that before.
In fact I seem to recall the sit-down chat was only a couple of weeks before Gomez’ accident.
sothball - March 9, 2009
Wasn't he suspended by the AA club in 2007 for behavior?
SoCalWine - March 9, 2009
I don't remember specifics...I think he exchanged words with Tom Kotchman.

From a Mike DiGiovanna article:

In June 2007, at double-A Arkansas, Arredondo threw a tantrum when he was pulled from a game and got into an altercation with veteran outfielder Curtis Pride, who was trying to calm Arredondo in the clubhouse afterward.

Actually a pretty good write up on the incident and Preston Gomez' impact

Matt Brown with an RBI single in the top of the 7th, driving in Terry Evans.
4-2 Angels headed to the bottom of the 7th.
sothball - March 9, 2009
...and that's it for my inning summaries...back to work!
sothball - March 9, 2009
we gotta get this kid some PT
Of Angels and Angles - March 9, 2009
WP yields one run, HR yields another, and it is now 4-4.
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
Rodriguez pitching at the time
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
End of 8. Bottom half of inning was pretty much listening to crickets.
Going into 9th still ties 4-4.
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
P.S.
7th inning stretch tune for the A’s turns out to be the Green Acres theme song. I think I would have preferred the commercials.
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
Angels DUI song is better.
44FAN - March 9, 2009
I hope this does not end up a tie game.
44FAN - March 9, 2009
We'd have to score in the top of the 10th to prevent it wouldn't we?
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Theme from Deliverance is cued up...
sothball - March 9, 2009
Yes, the A'ss are our bitch.
44FAN - March 9, 2009
Oakland has the winning run on second with one out.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Now on third with two outs.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Now over. A's win.
Stirrups - March 9, 2009
Basehit up the middle
A’s win 5-4. Nuts.
Zu Long - March 9, 2009
Man hope the fans blow up this win like the Marniers fans did last year
lol
norcaliangelsfan - March 9, 2009
There are lots of reasons to despise A'ss fans.
Being stupid is not one of them.
