Los Angeles Angels of Tempe @ Seattle Mariners of Peoria - 12:05 PM
Washington Mutual was bought out by JP Morgan, Boeing Moved to Chicago, Starbucks has closed 1,000 stores, Melinda Gates is not allowed to have an i-Phone and her kids wants macs, Steve Ballmer is psychotic and the Sonics left for Oklahoma.
Looks like they're gonna have to get motivated to win one for Dale Chihuly I guess....

b0rd3rline - March 5, 2009
oh god...Phyz is providing the color...
sothball - March 5, 2009
Abreu the main left fielder?
Johnny not that bad is he?
Wytelitning - March 5, 2009
His arm is fine but at times he's shaky tracking/catching the ball.
I don’t see a gold glove in his future.
sothball - March 5, 2009
I hear that...
but Abreu hasn’t played left in a long time and I haven’t heard anything positive about his defense.
Wytelitning - March 5, 2009
I imagine Scioscia will alternate Abreau, Vlad, and Johnny Rivers among LF, RF, and DH...
Outfield defense most likely will be a downgrade from last year.
sothball - March 5, 2009
i wonder how kendeick is doing this spring?
health wise, Those overdeveloped quads of his always worry me. Oh he was just robbed of a hit
blochead - March 5, 2009
*kendrick
blochead - March 5, 2009
Howie just misplayed a ball at second... doh.
101halo - March 5, 2009
Tuiasosopo
pronounced- Twee-a-so-so-po?
blochead - March 5, 2009
Close. Too-wee-ah-so-so-po
sothball - March 5, 2009
I always hear Too-e.
Wytelitning - March 5, 2009
Ah...Jimmy Buffett/Margaritaville...
sothball - March 5, 2009
Devils advocate wonders if Seattle could be more of a division force
if Bedard is healthy this season. He probably won’t stay healthy, but just for the sake of argument.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Hmmmm
Lackey > Bedtard
Santana > Bedtard
Weaver = Bedtard
Saunders Grumpy Bedtard
Same equations for All 4 Vs. Queen Felix
All 4>Wahburn
All 4 + Moseley/Loux>Silva
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
Yeah, I forgot they still had Silva.
They’re not going anywhere this year.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Saunders typo above
Bedtard>Saunders
Saunders>Grumpy Bedtard
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
When you talk about the Mariners, are'nt you supposed to use graphs?
44FAN - March 5, 2009
Becuase it impresses chicks
you know how they prefer finding the algebraic median to making out.
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
Maybe....I have learned to never predict anything in this game.
But, Terry Smith noted earlier in the broadcast that the only 2 Mariners with more tahn 10 HRs last year are gone (Ibanez, Sexson).
Morrow is 3rd on their depth chart for starters (previously a reliever), and Silva 4th. They would need a good adjustment from Morrow, bounce back year from Silva to be taken seriously, or some other good luck.
sothball - March 5, 2009
Adrian Beltre had like 25 homers
Ezzra - March 6, 2009
Sexson had 11; Jose Lopez 17, and as Ezzra says Belch-tre had 25 Funky Flatulent Blasts. Check your cochlea for blockage, sothball! ;)
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SEA/2008.shtml
Downing Rules - March 6, 2009
OK!!!!!!!!!! One steaming hot pile of ear enemas comming up...
sothball - March 6, 2009
Maybe it was this:
“Only 2 of the 4 players with 10 or more home runs from the Mariner’s 2008 squad remain after the departure of Ibanez and Sexson.”
Downing Rules - March 6, 2009
I only half-pay attention at work...I should have checked what I heard.
Actually, I blame Phyz (budding kindergarten teacher). My ears grow callouses when he speaks (blocked the ear enema too)…
sothball - March 6, 2009
He can certainly be a cochlear enema, can’t he?
Downing Rules - March 6, 2009
Oh god... Scioscia just gave up on this game
Speier makes his first appearance.
101halo - March 5, 2009
Let's give him a chance to get it under control this season.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Last season was probably an anomaly
He’s never had that much of a problem with the homerun ball, so last year might just be an outlier. We’ll have to wait and see, but with Arredondo, Shields, and Fuentes, he won’t be pitching high leverage innings anyway.
Gorbachav5 - March 5, 2009
Not to mention Oliver.
Right now he’s like, 5th on the depth chart.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Nice inning by Speier.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
AL 2009 Comeback Player
a little early, but…
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
Speier will breakout.
44FAN - March 5, 2009
i really hope he can get it back together!
101halo - March 5, 2009
I'm actually hoping for Vlad to snag that one with a monster season.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
you cannot be a comeback player
coming back from a 121 OPS+
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
What if you got a 200 OPS+... >_>
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
i know that would put me in a great mood…
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
vlad had too solid of year last year
to win comeback
TheAngelsAngels - March 5, 2009
I know, it just felt lackluster for him.
It was mostly a joke.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
word
TheAngelsAngels - March 5, 2009
What a couple of homers--Moralas has an upside to Tex--in who's universe
Halo84653 - March 5, 2009
Nono
They said upside on Kotchman, not Tex.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
are you sure--I was sure phis said Texiera
Halo84653 - March 5, 2009
I'm sure, because I thought the same thing at first
But then they said it was over the departed Kotchman.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
mathis!!!
TheAngelsAngels - March 5, 2009
Mathis is beastin' it up this spring.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Its really nice to see you back round these parts......Stu Long
norcaliangelsfan - March 5, 2009
Heh.
It’s good to be back. ;-)
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Mathis!!!!
Spent the winter eating his Wheaties…
sothball - March 5, 2009
What was in that barn?
Downing Rules - March 5, 2009
Correction!!
Mathis was eating straight up wheat in that barn
LosAngel - March 5, 2009
another point on the draft......
Baseball has way too many rounds and pics
norcaliangelsfan - March 5, 2009
So Zu.........mind if I pick your brain about the Davidson fellow.....
where do you see him come next month?
norcaliangelsfan - March 5, 2009
SLC.
Though he has a chance of getting some relief call-up time if Oliver goes down.
He put up solid relief numbers in Ark last year, but at 28, too old to be a real prospect.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Way to flash the power Reggie.......lol
norcaliangelsfan - March 5, 2009
I sure hope...
Reggie “3 & 2” Willits picks up his offense this year. Everyone like chanting “Reggie! Reggie!” right
3rd Echelon - March 5, 2009
I'll settle for another 2007...
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
I heard that..
Do you have his 07 numbers?
3rd Echelon - March 5, 2009
.293/.391/.344 in 430 AB's
and 5th in ROY voting
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
yeah he was huge in 07.........
what is he 5th on the OF depth chart probably? Barring any huge injury he’s not gonna get anymore than 120 AB’s I dont think
norcaliangelsfan - March 5, 2009
So if I'm ready this right...
He batted .194 with108 ABs in 2008? Yikes! I thought the dude had a batting cage in his bedroom. What gives?
3rd Echelon - March 5, 2009
"reading"
3rd Echelon - March 5, 2009
We payed too much for GMJ, we signed Torii Hunter, and pitchers figured out
that if you just throw the ball over the plate (which they didn’t do in 07) that he can’t really hurt you with his bat.
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
Check out this fantastic website...

And no, there isn’t. Listening is free though.

LosAngel - March 5, 2009
I stand corrected.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
well, it's not that great.
way behind what is actually happening. It took some time for that HK homer to actually show up.
LosAngel - March 5, 2009
thanks! gameday is allowed, but headphones or audio are a no-no…
Downing Rules - March 5, 2009
Listining via link in header.
Gameday…. hmmm.. I don’t see one.
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
Ok Brandon...
Let’s do this…
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
Those lowered hands are helping him.
Keep them there.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Marwin Vega?
Okay, I have to admit that’s a pretty badass name.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Sounds like someone
who gets a Grammy nomination but doesn’t win…
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
Also sounds vaguely like a car audio company...
Higz - March 5, 2009
based in Simi Valley (at least it was when I was into car audio)…
Downing Rules - March 5, 2009
Aww
memories
Seik1177 - March 5, 2009
Hey sweet, we're winning.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Wondered how long it would take you to show back up.
:-P
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Heh. Spring Training always pulls me back in.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
are you still just "Visiting" ???
new season, new sig?
Rev Halofan - March 5, 2009
Now that you mention it...
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Tada.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Nice.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
So it's Marwin Vega versus Stanley Coon. Punchline?
sothball - March 5, 2009
I seen Vegas in a Coon's age?
Sorry, I got nothin’.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
*ain't.
A terrible sentence made worse by typos. This is what happens when you stop posting for 5 months.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Truth.
I left like 3 words out of my first post last night.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Physioc laughs at Sonics fans despair.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
i also enjoyed that.
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
4-2.
Chris Shelton HR.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
I missed it...who pitched that inning?
sothball - March 5, 2009
Raffy was still in there.
First run of the spring I think.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Thanks.
sothball - March 5, 2009
GA went 0-2, Abreu 0-1 BB
Venezuela v. Atlanta
stuck in Romania - March 5, 2009
Wonder how GA’s doing adjusting to his first “non-Angels” camp in his career. I hope he does well.
Downing Rules - March 5, 2009
Remember when Shelton hit 10 HR's in April 2006?
And everyone was like holy **** next Pujols? Yeah. Good times.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
He's got 3 this spring.
Seems like someone could give him a Jack Cust-style shot at DH.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
A later generation's "Super Joe Charboneau"...
sothball - March 5, 2009
Nice patience, Brown.
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Q!!!!!!!!
MidwayCityLivestock - March 5, 2009
Get the run in Q.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
maybe they should play the B squad next friday
and Figgins
blochead - March 5, 2009
why and Figgins?
SoCalWine - March 5, 2009
Pavkovitch feels that the game needs drama.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Nice job by Herndon.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
just in case
Its friday the 13th and you never know what could happen.
blochead - March 5, 2009
BTW, I just noticed this, but Brian Fuentes is marked as our closer on the MLB
depth chart. Did I miss something? Is there some area where ET (Arredondo) would NOT be a better choice?
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Experience!
-_-;
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Dammit, Mike. >_<
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
One of my goals this season is to try really hard at giving Fuentes a fair shake.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
someone could accidentally take a crowbar to his knee
a la tonya harding.
blochead - March 5, 2009
Moonshot time Wood.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Possible hip labrum tear for A-Rod.

Zu Long - March 5, 2009
frankie rodriguez time! oh wait
blochead - March 5, 2009
Two down.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Why does this situation seem familiar...
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Ah it's nice to hear phys again
only 32 days left
blochead - March 5, 2009
Herndon, keeping tradition alive.
Makin’ it exciting.

blochead - March 5, 2009
Just another BEATDOWN of the Mariners!
44FAN - March 5, 2009
Big statement game against Seattle...
Congrats guys.
Wytelitning - March 5, 2009
The statement being
Cactus League is OUR meaningless exhibition?
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
Yep. Jeff Mathis, King of the Cactus League, suffers no challengers. :P
TheOptimist - March 5, 2009
Herndon did his best K-rod impression
blochead - March 5, 2009
Speier for the win!!
sothball - March 5, 2009
Gotta go, later guys.
Zu Long - March 5, 2009
This is the first of many Mariner losses
blochead - March 5, 2009
