10-4, Good Buddy: Angels Defeat Dodgers

Final Cactus League Score in Tempe: Angels 10, Dodgers 4...

Pitcher Dustin Moseley looked excellent as a Fifth Starter candidate as he went six strong innings for the Angels against their cross-basin rival Dodgers in Tempe Arizona Spring Training action.

Light-hitting Erick Aybar hit a homerun off Dodger savior Chad Billingsley. This is a sign that something is looking more uphill for the arm-poor men in blue. Two other Angel HRs came from borderline/scrub major leaguers Jeff Mathis and Robb Quinlan. This is not good news for the McCourt Franks of North Echo Park. The Dodgers scored all of their runs off of Moseley, 3 earned, on singles by Matt Kemp and Russel Martin.

In the superstar race, Manny Ramirez was 0 for 3 including 2 strikeouts to Moseley, while the Angels' Vlad Guerrero had his first hits of the Spring, 2 singles in 3 AB playing in RF. Bobby Abreu, in his first game back from playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, struck out twice and walked once in 4 Plate Appearances.

THE GOOD: Vlad's first hits in Spring.

THE BAD: Errors by Brandon Wood, Aybar and Torii Hunter

AND THE PANTHER: Gotta be Ayabr's 2 for 2, 2 run homer and a double in the 1st that he scored on.

What about Q's goofy home run?
Thank you for bringing it back!!!

The Ugly was the color commentator!
The Bad was the Hitting
and the elusive Panther is Mr. 2 for 2 Ayabar

ATTA BOY Vlad.........

taking me to the ship……..all the way.

Damn Chone!

I know its Spring Training, and I know its only one game, and I know that I am biased in my hate for Figgins, but damn that damn guy!

If I heard the game correctly – he got caught stealing twice and was thrown out on a bunt – and although I don’t have all his base running stats – I was at the game that he got picked off at 2nd against the Cubs in Mesa. If his advantage is speed and his base running savvy – then he sure is doing a shitty job of showing it.

SOB – its good thing he’s blocking Wood – cause its not like we need his power or anything…

Damn – I hate that guy..

If Figgy does that repeatedly in games that matter ...

I will be right next to you calling for his head.

However I could never reach the level where I could say I hate Figgins, even if he “Buckner’s” a ball in a World Series game.

Further, if the team win % is still at the level it is presently at, he gets many passes in my book.

My advice: Relax and get Figgy with it! It’s just spring “gorams77”!

Almost bigger than this game was Escobar throwing 34 pitches in a minor league

ST game and hitting 96 on the gun while staying in the 90’s with his fastball. His phenomenal recovery rate is awesome and if he keeps this up we could see him a lot earlier than we ever hoped to this year.

Fuentes

According to the OC Register, he topped out at 89 and only retired 5 of the 10 that he faced.

Hoping it’s just him getting healthy and right, and not something bigger.

good thing he didnt pitch in the WBC

I am officially pressing the red “emergency button” regarding Fuentes. Yes, it is only spring, but he is looking really ugly at this point in time. Hopefully the Shields will be up or ET can phone home, otherwise, we are hurting in the 9th.

It is a bummer that he is facing health problems. Hope Brian can get well and get out there and make a positive contribution this year. Guess the doubters were right on this one. (throws in towel).

Good to see the Panthers return...
