I'm hoping HK steps it up this year. I still can't gauge where K-Mo is at.
In 2007 (a season where he suffered broken bones in his hand), HK posted an OPS of .797. It would be a huge plus for the Angels to have a decent defensive 2B like HK who can post (just throwing out numbers, though doable #s for HK) .325/.355/.455
But I hear you on Morales. We’ve been told that he has .300 30-30 potential for so long without any real proof it’s easy to wonder if maybe we should have a backup plan.
Though I’ll note that Matt Brown has been getting a lot of 1B work this spring, and he may be our fallback position.
There’s this article from Baseball Prospectus immediately after we got him. I don’t have access to the whole article, but what’s there seems pretty self explanatory.
Then there’s Mike Scioscia a week ago, who gives him a shot at 30 homers.
This guy gives him a shot at .280+ avg with 25 homers, 90 RBI.
Just in general, there were some scouts who were really high on Morales and thought .300 30-30 was a definite possibility. I read so many Angels articles every year I couldn’t tell you exactly where to find them. Hopefully these three links tell you I’m not just pulling numbers out of the air… there are serious baseball people who think and have thought Morales could do something in that range.
Before the game, Wood was working out with the other AAAA players (Napoli, S-Rod, Mathis and others) on the practice field directly west of the stadium.
Scioscia was running these guys through various drills, and then some pre-game BP.
Kendall Leadoff Double
He stuck that thing out there and it was almost a homerun.

Fan Since 1981 - March 21, 2009
What's the word on Adenhart's chances of making the rotation?
Fan Since 1981 - March 21, 2009
Given that Moseley is out of options
It seems more likely that the Angels will take Dustin and Loux.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
weak........
norcaliangelsfan - March 21, 2009
That makes sense.
Also, it seems that Loux is impressing The Soth. Plus given last year’s performance, regular starts in AAA would be beneficial for Adenhart.
Fan Since 1981 - March 21, 2009
Loux has impressed ME, that's for sure.
After his outings from the bullpen last season, plus his pretty good AAA numbers, and of course his great spring, I’d like to give him a shot.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
yeah
Dustin still scares me, but I wouldn’t mind giving Loux a few starts.
who knows? maybe by midseason, Adenhart and Wood will have some roster spots
howiestheman - March 21, 2009
Adenhart I'm willing to give another season in AAA.
Especially once Escobar gets back, pitching spots will be hard to come by. Besides which, the guy’s 22. His warranty won’t expire for a while yet.
Wood has nothing left to prove in AAA and is 24. It’s time to see what he’s got, for better or for worse.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
agreed
I’m okay with Adenhart in AAA for another year… as long as it helps him.
sending Wood back down is plain stupid
howiestheman - March 21, 2009

There are worse fates. :)
But I don’t know. Morales and Kendrick can put up a lot of offense over a full season if they put their minds to it.

Zu Long - March 21, 2009
i really like Wilson
have for a couple years… it’s too bad we cant give him a spot.
howiestheman - March 21, 2009
The sad part is he'd arguably be better than Mathis.
Though for offense Naps has him beat cold.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
with Conger in the pipeline
he is a temporary insurance policy in the Soth’s scheme of things.
Rev Halofan - March 21, 2009
I don't know if the organization really believes Conger will stay a catcher.
He hasn’t been able to stay healthy in three seasons playing there. They may decide to move him to first or maybe left.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
shifting him to the OF would not be a bad idea
i’m starting to wish they’d do that with Napoli
howiestheman - March 21, 2009
Unfortunately it'd be too much hassle to switch Naps.
It’s possible for Conger because he’s still in the minors.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
yeah probably
but it would give him a permanent (non-platoon) spot and relieve some of the wear and tear.
howiestheman - March 21, 2009
for sure
I haven’t heard anything bad about Wilson’s D, and his bat in AAA has been good.
howiestheman - March 21, 2009

howiestheman - March 21, 2009
I seriously doubt Q will still be here after this season though.
Brown is essentially Robb Quinlan 6 years ago. It’s funny how statistically similar their careers in the minors have been.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009
Bullshit
Show me one single .300 30-30 prediction. Seriously, the Internet is huge, it must contain one. Don’t Jack Howell this guy.

I get the feeling Speier is done.
An old reliever who has lost his stuff.

The weird part is his stuff hasn't changed all that much from 2007
He just can’t locate anymore.
Zu Long - March 21, 2009

TheAngelsAngels - March 21, 2009

i say now
adenhart and mose in the rotation, loux taking speiers job (last year/6th inning).
or when the starters get back

It'd be nice, but I'm not sure I see that one happening.

Not surprising though. We’ve basically got Robb Quinlan and the D-team out there.

TheAngelsAngels - March 21, 2009
The mistake was when he dove for the ball and missed, letting the runner get to third.
