#25 DEAN CHANCE, Starting Pitcher (1961 - 66)
Post-2005 Top 100 Angels Rank: 15 - check out our Dean Chance essay and his cool "Los Angeles" jersey that you can show all your "we are not L.A." teeshirters...
Regular Season Franchise Win Shares: 24 (87 Regular Season Win Shares)
All Time Franchise Rankings: 2.83 ERA is 2nd in Franchise History (and Chance has 260+ more IP than the 2.78 ERA of franchise leader Andy Messersmith), his 21 shutouts rank 3rd. His ERA + of 122 ranks 4th in club history.
Single Season Franchise Rankings: 1.65 ERA in 1964 is 1st in Angels history, his 1.006 WHIP that year ranks 2nd, his 11 shutouts that year rank 1st as does his almost incomprehensible ERA+ of 198 from that season.
Suffice to say that Dean Chance won the 1964 Cy Young award, back when it was only awarded to one pitcher, regardless of league. Chance beat out, among others, Sandy Koufax, pitching in the same park.

Chance
If you were an Angels fan when Chance was around, he was the man. One of the few Angels to ever win the Cy Young, He started his career with a team who started their career at the same time. In 1961, our first year, he was 0-2 with 18 IP. By 1964, he was a Cy Young winner with a 20-9 record, 278 IP (can you believe that), and a 1.65 ERA.
Deserves at least #25, if not better.

Back then it was a pitchers game compared to now
Lower ERA’s and lower batting averages, etc. Still, 1.65 is awesome.
