Rex Hudler Testimonials Multiply as Phony Physioc Disappears, Forgotten

It has become the most controversial move since Arte Moreno changed the name of the Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. What could sow more dissension than that? An axing - what appears to have been the directive of new Angels President John Carpino to replace Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler as the team's telecasters.

Or at least Hudler's dismissal has become a point of controversy. It seems every major news outlet had a tribute to the Wonderdog while his smarmy partner Steve Physioc has gotten zero love from anywhere in public.

Observe the growing REX FILES in local media...

  • The LA TIMES Sports Media columnist Diane Pucin penned A FAN LETTER to Rex so fawning that it was worthy of the authorship of one of the squealing pre-pubies lining up to see the New Moon sequel to Twilight.
  • Fred Claire calls Hudler the CREAM OF THE FREE AGENT CROP right under the Angels' noses on the MLB site.
  • Lyle Spencer adds to the kudos for Rex with a "DON'T CRY FOR ME ANAHEIM" Hudler booster article.
  • In the local yokel OC-Reg, Randy Youngman kept both eyes focused on Hudler's LEGACY WITH THE FANS in the OC.
  • Hud's hometown FRESNO BEE quoted him as saying he has already had some job offers and he and his agent are exploring all avenues.

Rex Hudler is an inspiring and impassioned baseball personality whose generosity of spirit has inspired people to jump into his corner on his behalf within a few hours of his dismissal.

Lost in the shuffle is that perhaps everyone on earth has finally come to the conclusion that Steve Physioc is a phony hayseed butchering baseball broadcasts for the sole purpose of proving he knows a story or two.

When it comes to anyone speaking on behalf of Steve Physioc, perhaps all the years of him jumping onto the conversation to prove he knew a bit of trivia have caught up with him and he finds himself alone having smugly rid his inner circle of all possible fans and supporters by making sure that they knew HE knew it all and that they were not needed...

OH wait... here is a link to the legion of Physioc fans discussing his impact in baseball broadcasting history... LINK TO PHYSIOC DISCUSSION...

Good luck, Hud...

Is the color in my monitor beginning to die, or is your hair yellow?

Arte needs to bring back Rex in some capacity. Maybe let him put on the monkey outfit or something.

Correction

Should read "Randy Youngman kept his one good eye focused on Hudler’s Legacy…while his other eye continued to fixate at 10 o’clock.

I met Rex once

when he and his wife were shopping at MainPlace Mall during the off season. I can’t remember precisely, but I believe it was immediately before he went to Philadelphia as a free agent.

His wife was pregnant with one of his kids, shopping in one of the stores while Rex sat on a bench in the mall walkway. The Angels were shuffling managers, and we talked about how the team should give George Arias a shot at playing every day at 3B. “He could hit 40 HR’s.”

Rex talked with me like we had been friends for years, while in actuality, my wife and I had walked up to him when I noticed him sit on the bench. During the conversaton, he said to me, “They ought to make you the manager.”

I, for one, never tired of Rex on any of the TV or radio broadcasts. I understood and appreciated every word he said, as I recognized his perspective he was sharing. Ocassionally, I wondered to myself while watching the games on TV, if some of the “Inside-Information” comments he made might be politically dangerous. I still wonder.

I miss Rex; I wish him well. He already seems to be handling this better than I would. I feel as if a member of my family has just lost his job.

Rex signed a ball for me once

It was in Camden Yards and the only guys I could get to sign were Joe Madden and Hud. He laughed and said that the ball had more value blank. To others maybe. I’ll miss you, Hud.

The missus and I got to meet him this last Spring Training...

…and I wrote about it here.

Before meeting him, I had the impression he was mostly clown/huckster, with a bit of baseball knowledge/experience thrown in.

After meeting him, I realized his greatest gift is his honesty and sincerity. He spend about an hour talking right off the cuff to anyone who’d listen on a variety of topics. He really connected with people, especially kids.

Nice hair, Rev...

doing your best Juan Rivera impression or what?

Hud will be missed!
I'll say it again...

Bring Hud back!

I can't decide who's the most handsome!

You could all be brothers, from different fathers (unlike the Izturis’z).

ease up on revs hair..

we were all kids one time, doing crazy shit back in… wait…. 05?

funny

mid life crisis advice, guys: better $80 bucks on a haircut than 80 grand on a tricked out convertibel corvette

$80 for that haircut?

Goofball! All you had to do was buy a lemon, drain the juice, apply it to your hair and then sunbathe for a few hours. BAMMO … instant blondie. I saved you $79.50 to apply to your 2010 season seats.

Big Picture

Artie,

There are many things that distinguish you from the others. One of them is that you establish strong values, build loyalty within the organization and are very conscious of fan reaction.

I hope the release of Rex Hudler is not the first removal of a foundation brick that you have so incredibly set for the Angel fan base. The action seems contrary to a person who is loyal, inspires fans with enthusiam and knowledge and is different from other “corporate” announcers. Hudler is part of the Angel “brand”.

I think we should not release one of our good ones before their prime.

The team was heavy with announcing staff. Somebody got to go.

My guess is that, when the choice had to be made, Mota was retained to continue to drive Halos Q factor into the Latino community, which is sound marketing. Rex may be more fun for you and me, but some times hard choices need to be made to keep the beer prices down.

I predicted Mota and Physioc would go prior to the offseason.

But in hindsight, I believe your theory is correct about keeping Mota over Hudler. Kind of a bummer, though, as I think Rex Hudler’s enthusiasm is “one-of-a-kind” and irreplaceable.

With that said, let’s rally around Jose Mota! As Hud might say: “Go Josie (hose-ee)!!!”

Chip Caray is available!

hehheh
