All I want for Christmas is Steve Physioc announcing for any one of 29 other baseball teams. But I do not think it will be under the tree this year...

Steve “Phys” Physioc fan club.
He always makes me feel good about myself.

I'm not sure what I'd rather have for Christmas: Roy Halladay coming, or Steve Physioc leaving.
It’s really that close.

Am I the only one who doesn't despise Physioc on here?
I understand that he is FAR from perfect but we all just had to listen to Joe Buck, Tim McCarver and Buck Martinez during this offseason. Physioc is god compared to those guys.

See my post above.
3rd Echelon - November 12, 2009
Phys isn't that bad
He sure takes a lot of heat. But, I agree about Tim McCarver being just awful. I don’t don’t understand how he keeps his job with all of the “clever” sayings he tries to interject.
But while we’re on the subject, bring back Dick Enberg. It would be awesome to hear him end his broadcast career with the Angels.

Plus don't forget...
the most annoying sound in the World is Buck Martinez saying “Jonathon Papelbon”
I think the FBI uses an endless loop of BM to drive out gunmen holed up in buildings.

lol

What about Joe Buck saying
“May-zer” Iszturis

Dick Enberg ... ah, the memories
I started following the Angels in 1971. I remember the radio team was Dick Enberg and Don Wells. Then Don Drysdale following Wells.
So many nights as a kid I listened to Enberg’s voice from a little AM radio under my pillow that I snuck into bed with me (especially if Nolan Ryan was on the mound… I think it was Enberg who started calling him Ryan’s Express). I recorded the special that, I believe, was on channel 9 after the Angel’s 2002 WS that Dick Enberg hosted, and he sounded like the Angels have a spot near his heart. I don’t know if he would have the slightest interest in going back to being an announcer with all the travel and such, but boy, I would love to hear his voice calling an Angel’s game again. In my mind, like Vin Scully will always be the “voice” I associate most with the Dodgers, Dick’s voice is the same to me for the Angels, regardless of the fact it’s been years since he called a game for them.

Well said (or written)

Enberg has interest (or at least he did)
I remember seeing an interview several years ago where Enberg said he would love to someday go back to baseball, possibly to finish up his career. I can’t image a better fit and a better PR move for the Angels. I, too, have fond memories of hearing his voice describing the action. And this was back in the day before the Angels had much success. Imagine him now having the opportunity to call some meaningful games.
In my opinion this would be the best free agent signing possible. ;)

McCarver blows dead goat.
Buck Martinez blows McCarver.
rmhalofan - November 12, 2009
McCarver
I enjoyed his tales during Game 2 of stories he had read in the “Orange County Times”.
It isn’t a crime to forget the name of the Register, but the LA Times is one of the most famous papers in the entire US.

I actually like him.

Me too.

I find it amusing that so many absolutely despise him
but I think he’s just fine
Moondoggy - November 12, 2009
AMEN!

Double that!

Call in question #1:
“Hey, Steve, do you think you can call on ESPN to pop for an upgrade to that giant EGA monitor they are using above the front door to show games in progress?”
Stirrups - November 12, 2009
Maybe he's going for the "Howard" Kendrick effect. Also, I don't despise him either!
He be makin’ all the right calls, too, mon when they be playin’ the game!

If GA wasn't so lazy....
Torii would have 10 Gold Gloves by now.
3rd Echelon - November 12, 2009
Win!
Clutch - November 12, 2009
But now Torii has a Silver Slugger to add to it.
angelsfan777 - November 12, 2009
Weee! Another win!
If GA wasn’t so lazy…

So the deal with Physioc is we have to wait until Nov. 12th to hear him talk to and about Angels players?
44FAN - November 12, 2009
Which is today. Which ran from 3 to 7pm.
opiejeanne - November 12, 2009
Well, okay then.
44FAN - November 12, 2009
Of course he praised the Yankees pretty much right away.
Personally I just want him to go announce for an East Coast team and let’s get someone who really loves the Angels. That’s just my opinion though.
angelsfan777 - November 12, 2009
I actually miss Phys
after 1 month+ of TBS and FOX broadcasts. I feel so dirty.
blochead - November 12, 2009
I missed Rex…mainly cause I just wanted to hear from someone cheering for our team, That was the reason I turned down the volume on the tv and turned on the radio.
angelsfan777 - November 12, 2009
+1000
Joe Buck, Tim McCarver and Buck Martinez all cheering the Yankees made me nauseous. I wanted to hear Rex’s voice during the playoffs ,saying positive things about the Angels—he would have been the perfect counterpoint to those 3 bozos from the networks. Even Phyzz would have been a major upgrade.
Get Rex on the broadcast team for next year!
hbhalofan - November 12, 2009
Exactly
It was disgusting how Buck/McCarver/Martinez made little to no attempt to sound the slightest bit impartial in their coverage. They fawned over every routine play made by Jeter as if he’d made an Ozzie-esque circus grab, and they always seemed to have little clips of the Yankee players ready complete with heroic soundtrack music, but I don’t recall seeing much of the same for the Phillie players (or Angels).
I’m sure if they had their way, the Yankees would automatically be in the series every year, with their opponent getting all the same respect that the Washington Generals get compared to the Harlem Globetrotters.

If your not wearin’ your tinfoil hat. You will go mad.
eyespy - November 12, 2009
plop plop phyzz phyzz or what a relief it is...
to not have to hear his voice every week
thejd - November 12, 2009
Oddly enough
the person on the Angel’s broadcasting team who annoys me is Mark Gubicza, but I know it’s not fair because it has nothing to do with his voice or coverage at all. It’s just that for me he represents an era of the Angels where they always seemed to be getting guys who were either past their prime or broken down. The Angels traded Chili Davis to the Royals to get him. Chili had hit .292/28/95 for the Angels that year, and the next year with the Royals he hit .279/30/90. And what did we get with Gubicza? 2 games, 0 – 1, 25.07 ERA. I understand that is just baseball, and as I said, probably not fair to Mark to hold it against him, but he just represents to me all the various Von Hayes/Hubie Brooks/Kelly Gruber etc players the Angels were getting at that time.
Hoppity Hooper - November 12, 2009
I'll be sure to mark my calender
next year
Funke5ive - November 12, 2009
Who the hell wrote the press release?
“withdrawl”?!?
Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over?
Somebody wrote this, someone above him or her approved it for release, and neither of them knows how to spell withdrawal?

“w – i – t – h – d – r – a – w – a – l” is how Catholics control birth rates.
“w – i – t – h – d – r – a – w – l” is how those same Catholics speak , when in Texas.
