IN the NY POST, the scenarios for the ALCS look pretty lousy if there are any games postponed this weekend as New York gets its first Autumn Nor'easter - 45 degrees and constant rain is almost guaranteed for most of Friday ... and perhaps into the weekend.
But it gets even crazier, thanks to FOX being the ALCS broadcaster. FOX will not allow a Sunday day game if the Friday and/or Saturday games are not played. FOX has an NFL game to broadcast at 1 PM and 4 PM Eastern, so the ALCS Sunday rescheduled game would definitely be a night affair.
IF there is a Sunday game to make up for either a Friday or a Saturday postponement, Monday would be a travel day. At present Sunday is the travel day and Monday afternoon is ALCS Game 3 in Anaheim. It is a day game because of Monday Night Football. So if Monday ends up being the travel day... Game 3 would be on Tuesday, but it would be a night game, Wednesday would be a night game and there would be no break before Game 5 (which was stupid anyway) on Thursday Night.
When will the Yankees play the Angels? Will CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett be able to make three starts apiece? Will Joba Chamberlain have to pitch? Will John Lackey get to pitch three times?
No word on what happens if Friday, Saturday and Sunday are too rainy to play... stay tuned!

Worst post-season schedule ever.
Why have we been sitting around all week doing nothing? Selig, you are a greedy moron!!
Match Day 5 - October 15, 2009
Let's see how you feel about this as a season ticket holder
“Here’s your postseason strip. Sorry, but we can’t tell you which days or times we’re going to be playing, but you can get into the park IF you can figure out a way to get there. AND if you can get the time off. But we won’t give you much advance notice.”
scareduck - October 15, 2009
It's bad even if you aren't a season ticket holder
rspencer - October 15, 2009
I dunno about you but I've been at work...
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - October 15, 2009
Yeah, I needed the break ...
to re-gain my voice and my strength. I left it all on the field last week.
Downing Rules - October 15, 2009
Blame the WBC
Although a World Series game was played on two separate days last year so I am not sure this year will beat that.
hauldog - October 15, 2009
Something doesn't add up.
If WBC delayed everything for a week, why does that translate to nothing happening this week? Al the possible outcomes could have been planned for so nothing would be unexpected.
No wonder everyone’s desperate for the Yankees to win. Any momentum and excitement that the playoffs could have built up is gone. The only way to have a decent number of people interested at this point is to have the team that (probably) most people know anything about (thanks ESPN) involved.
Match Day 5 - October 15, 2009
Yeah this is ridiculous.
And f*** FOX. Terrible network.
NoDakHalo - October 15, 2009
You'd rather have TBS?
red floyd - October 15, 2009
I'd rather have ESPN
Say what you want about their bias, but they produce baseball much more competently than Fox or TBS.
rspencer - October 15, 2009
I'd rather have KHJ.
Channel 9 old school, FTW!
Downing Rules - October 15, 2009
i'd rather be there
but due to financial constraints that is not a possibility.
princeton11loveshalos - October 15, 2009
yes
since all broadcasters on both networks are terrible, the deciding factor: my cable provider offers TBS in HD, while they do not offer FOX in HD.
NoDakHalo - October 15, 2009
Your cable provider is whack
BruinHalo - October 15, 2009
BruinHalo is correct. My provider has Fox in HD, as long as it's not channel 13.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
Series should have started last night (Wednesday)...
Jietoh - October 15, 2009
Yeah, except
they couldn’t know when planning the schedule that both ALDS series would be over in 3.
rspencer - October 15, 2009
They used to be able to do it.
Until Fox pinned the schedule to their liking.
hauldog - October 15, 2009
yep
at the very least, they should have scheduled the ALCS to begin on Thursday once both teams were known, and left the NLCS to begin on Friday after the Phillies won & advanced after the Yankees, Angels, and Dodgers did.
am I the only one thinking “duh”? or am I taking crazy pills here.
Brian S (brianguy) - October 15, 2009
It is a good idea but it is new.
Therefore we fear it.
Match Day 5 - October 15, 2009
I don't remember that ever happening
Honestly, I don’t recall the next round ever having been moved up because all teams finished the previous round early. When did this happen? Because it would sure have been a good thing to do this time.
rspencer - October 15, 2009
Pre Fox and the first couple years of it
They used to set the dates based off of when the last series finished.
hauldog - October 15, 2009
Thanks for smartening me up
I didn’t really pay attention to the postseason from about 1987 until, oh, about 2002.
But since they are obviously unconcerned with moving game days and times around anyway, there is no good reason not to do as you suggest, from fan and player standpoints.
rspencer - October 15, 2009
They do it in the NBA and NHL
So why not in the MLB
bearnut - October 15, 2009
If there are delays...
that could be better for us I think. Because then the Yankees wouldn’t be able to use those gaps to rest CC. Then the Angels face Joba. Our pitching depth could handle it better than theirs. IMO.
On a side note: Does FOX do anything right? They screw up their movies. Their TV shows suck. When they actually are good, they get canceled. And now this
Monkeyspanked - October 15, 2009
Fox TV shows :(
those fags canceled Futurama and Arrested Development. Family guy’s first 3 seasons were gold now they are stale :(
SenorChuckles - October 15, 2009
let me get this straight - you're blaming Fox for
Seth McFarlane’s bad writing? wow…
Brian S (brianguy) - October 15, 2009
no...
I’m just saying the show that they actually brought back didnt seem as funny as it us to.
SenorChuckles - October 15, 2009
as funny as it use to.

As long as game 3 is played before Thursday
cuz I’m going to VEGAS!
chairmanofthebar - October 15, 2009
Mildly better for the Angels, but
CC did very well on short rest for the Brewers last year.
scareduck - October 15, 2009
If game 3 is on Tuesday, I'm boned.
I have a final exam on Tuesday.
red floyd - October 15, 2009
give me your email, I'll send you my forwarding address
where you can leave all tickets!
Brian S (brianguy) - October 15, 2009
Sorry. The buddy I'm going with get my seat (for his kid) if I can't make it.
red floyd - October 15, 2009
This has a lot to do with the WBC
which delayed everything by a week, thus increasing the probability of weather problems in the postseason.
The only answer is to have an all-California World Series.
rspencer - October 15, 2009
Why does everyone assume Joba will pitch?
Gaudin is much better than that over hyped pitcher. Or have the Yankees announced that if they do need a 4th starter it would be Joba?
SenorChuckles - October 15, 2009
I saw it mentioned somewhere
That Joba would probably be in the bullpen all series regardless. So yeah, that would mean Gaudin as a 4th starter.
Gorbachav5 - October 15, 2009
I heard yesterday on 830...
he’s in the bullpen ala Santana. I’m pretty sure it’s confirmed as fact at this point.
Brian S (brianguy) - October 15, 2009
Anybody want to invite me over to watch the game
in the San PEdro/Torrance area. Need some where to go nuts being at my house get’s kind of boring haha.
angelskid2210 - October 15, 2009
The only parties I know of in that area are for Dodgers games.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
Well then I guess I'll have to go convert! Lol
angelskid2210 - October 15, 2009
They wouldn't require it, they're all good people.
We got an invite and they KNOW where our loyalties lie, but that 9am game time on Sunday will turn at least one party into a pancakes party.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
This schedule is whack
I blame East Coast Bias.
Gorbachav5 - October 15, 2009
Craptastrophe.
I am out of town this weekend, so now the DVR presets are worthless.
Stirrups - October 15, 2009
AT&T Uverse is my friend
Remote DVR access. How did I ever live without it?
Gorbachav5 - October 15, 2009
I have that too, with Direct TV. Had it long before ATT Uverse wandered into the neighborhood.
But you gotta have, at a minimum, a PDA with functional Internet access where you happen to be when you find out the correct start time of the game, and/or the correct end time in case you have to extend recordings. I ditched my PDA for a Nokia E71x which is awesome, but with a limited browser. And I am not toting my laptop into the wilderness.
My fallback may be to turn over my Direct TV online logon to my son, and have him do it for me.
Stirrups - October 15, 2009
that's not a bad idea
unless rubix messes it up.

AND IF HE DOES!!!!!!!!

Anyone know why BB playoffs is going so late nowadays?
Last years WS was a disaster in Philly. Why cant BB just start sooner and thus end before the east coast gets pummeled with rain and ice and snow?
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - October 15, 2009
Couple things
First is that the World Baseball Classic this year forced baseball to start a week later. Second is that if you start a week earlier, you’re going to get pummeled with rain and ice and snow the first week of the season, which will result in rainouts, which in turn results in doubleheaders, which in turn results in lower revenue for those games (since makeup games are often poorly attended affecting walk up sales and concessions).
It’s all about the cash. Personally, I’d like to see them eliminate an off day or two and then schedule 3 or 4 Saturday doubleheaders throughout the season. The season ends a week earlier and we can avoid some of this mess.
Gorbachav5 - October 15, 2009
In your magic plan
Be sure to include a 7-game LDS (not mormons). 5-game is too short for baseball.
BruinHalo - October 15, 2009 via mobile
ALDS. NLDS.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
Double headers. More double headers.
Nobody goes to Wednesday games anyway.
Stirrups - October 15, 2009
+1
Match Day 5 - October 15, 2009
My liver can't take a double header
hauldog - October 15, 2009

I’ll drink to that
Higz - October 15, 2009
Delays and breaks in the schedule will hurt the Angels....
One major advantage the Angels’ have is a very deep rotation 1-4. With a lot of days off that advantage is erased. Hopefully Mike isn’t afraid to pull the trigger in the bullpen and use Kazmir and Voodoo when necessary.
Nashdiesel - October 15, 2009
thus the reason for all the days off
Fred Fredrix - October 15, 2009
Cold Weather Less Jacks
hauldog - October 15, 2009
that is a good point
anything that can mitigate Yankee HRs weather wise helps us.
Rev Halofan - October 15, 2009
Moisture as well
I am hanging my hat on this.
The Angels are far less dependent on the long ball
hauldog - October 15, 2009
thats is soo true
Angels_48 - October 15, 2009
greeaaaaat
way to eff everything up, fox.
retrohalo - October 15, 2009
I blame Fox not only for this shitty schedule but also for the weather.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
Is this a joke? ALCS on Monday afternoon for NFL MNF!!!
Since when should a LCS game give way to a regular season NFL game? When the MLB won’t stand up for itself, that is when.
bearnut - October 15, 2009
not NFL
Doesn’t it have more to do with one gme in the late afternoon and the other primetime for the east coast. MNF and MLB still going head to head with the NLCSM right?
HALO_86 - October 15, 2009 via mobile
The weather guy on "Morning Joe" this morning said there may be enough of a break
in the weather to get the game on Friday in.
44FAN - October 15, 2009
I hope they've had the tarps on the infield ... make that the entire field, all week.
opiejeanne - October 15, 2009
Umm, judging from the photo above it appears they have.
