What an astounding game. What an astounding team. Other than Lackey not getting his 10th W, this thing was a masterpiece, easily one of the best games of the season.
If you Tivo'd the bottom half of the 8th, it is something you can save and play years from now during any down time.
Panther of the Game: Napoli or Vlad or you tell me...

Awesome 8th!
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 9, 2008
30 minute half inning...
Un-freaking-believable!
red floyd - August 9, 2008
REFUSE. TO. LOSE.
I’ve never been so infatuated with a team as I am in these Halos. Well Frankie, at least you’ve got the Saves record before the All Star break…
ReggieBullits - August 9, 2008
And definitely Naps for Panther.
Gonna roll with Fox National on this one.
ReggieBullits - August 9, 2008
panther: 8th inning..
do we really have to pick one person? ill give GA some more love… his homer got the comeback going an inning before the big 8th
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 9, 2008
Man, was that eighth unbelievable or what?
Just FYI, was keeping track of the game on gameday, but had some guests over and needed to talk with them rather than blog.
Naps for panther, homer and a single in his first game back, plus a BB and an HBP.
Zu Long - August 9, 2008
And he took an A-Rod foul off the hand
He sucked it up, hung in there and went yard to tie the game. Welcome back Naps!
ReggieBullits - August 9, 2008
BTW, Fangraphs says Naps by a mile.
Zu Long - August 9, 2008
panther of the game has to be naps
didn’t he get on base every time up? and the game tying homerun really seemed to be the change in the momentum of the game.
Man Tex hit that one ball a mile, but I don’t think he can get panther for making the last out of an inning and the first out of the consecutive inning. Has anyone seen that happen before?
MH252525 - August 9, 2008
Wow
Panther to Vlad for making it 4-3. Otherwise the entire team offense.
vladtheimpaler - August 9, 2008
And The Story Goes
Funke5ive - August 9, 2008
Panther to Naps.
On base all 4 times at the plate, tied the game and contributed to the 8th inning dog pile. All in his first game back after injury.
TheOptimist - August 9, 2008
Panther = The Monkey!
Give him a banana!
SurfCity - August 9, 2008
Word.
tbone_cutter - August 9, 2008
im gonn say that lackey strike out in the 7th on a-rod
he shut down a-rod and everything changed, naps hits a homer in the bottom half, shirlds shuts em down in the 8th and then EVERYONE HITS in the bottom of the eighth. but if not lackey then naps for taking the foul ball off the hand and then tying it up
halofan4life - August 9, 2008
Note
I believe the Angels actually won this game last night by depleting the Yankee bullpen.
SurfCity - August 9, 2008
Panther to Naps, he came back and took a HBP and a pitch off the hand for the team
AmyAngel - August 9, 2008
Panther to Naps
agreed not played much displayed much luminosity
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
Sorry I didn't pop into the game thread
But I was there … I met some mates, one Scottish, one English, at a pub called the Castle Tavern overlooking the River Ness in Scotland.
I dialed in the game on my lappie on MLB.TV and we were down 2-0. These guys knew NOTHING about baseball before, and came away from the experience knowing more about baseball than they ever thought they could know, and not only that … fans of the Angels forever.
I think it was the Napoli home run that did it for the Scottish guy, and it was the Figgins base hit and steal that did it for the English guy.
Either way, my mission to recruit new fans to the best team in baseball continues ..
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
good work, watching the game in the pub! Did the Scot like Naps because he (quote) ‘looks like an angry scotsman wielding a club’ ??
AmyAngel - August 9, 2008
It was great Amy!
I had my hands full because I got the game on full screen on the laptop and they were so impressed with that. And then we were down 2-0. They like soccer so they thought we were dead. I said just you wait ….
And when Napoli came to bat, I said to the Scottish guy, “this guy is known for his power to knock it for six out of the yard”
Sure enough Napoli hit the HR!!!! It was awesome. The Scottish guy loved the fact that we needed a run and Napoli (unshaven) smashed one into the bleachers. They couldn’t believe how many people were in the stands.
God bless Angels …. (not nation) ... Halos Heaven works for me just fine :)
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
good stuff! I’m still helping my english mates come to terms with the idea that 10 or more runs is regularly possible in baseball, think i’ve got a way to go before i convert them!
AmyAngel - August 9, 2008
Image I'd like to wipe from my mind....
Napoli in a kilt
red floyd - August 9, 2008
Just in case you want more nightmares
Scotsmen wear nothing under their kilts. Now picture Napoli. Sweet dreams, red :)
highlandhalo - August 10, 2008
Hot diggity
Of all the games to actually be on a channel me and my non-cable-buying ass get to see, this was truly a serendipitous selection.
And what’s more, I got to force my office to turn away from Olympic rowing for a moment and show them the best team in baseball, which even Fox had to own up to, in so many words (even if they couldn’t remember who was on the team).
I’m leaning towards Side Salad for the kitty. Taking that ball on the finger and then coming back with an “oh yeah?” to turn the tide? TNT doesn’t broadcast drama like that.
Damn I love this team. It’s a good year to be a Halos fan.
Zoe Necrosis - August 9, 2008
We don't suck
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
Wooo
scottnak - August 9, 2008
Speier
Kept me from scoring 2 instead of 1.
red floyd - August 9, 2008
Napoli for Panther
I’ve never loved a man who won’t button his shirt as much as I love Mike Napoli.
Someone get that kid a medallion… and an IROC.
Rusty Carew - August 9, 2008
Napoli!
gohalos912 - August 9, 2008
I'm inclined to go with Vlad.
I walked in the door and turned to the game just as Vlad’s bomb was starting to come down and break that tie. Then I sat on my couch for the next half hour and watched one of the most amazing innings I’ve yet to witness.
That’s 2 great games in a row against the Yanks, let’s make it 3 tomorrow
TheTypingFiend - August 9, 2008
Props to Fox
Hey, with all the anti-FOX and ESPN focus I see on this site, I thought I’d call attention to the fact that the Fox broadcasters of today’s game were all about the Angels, calling them not only the best time in the game but the smartest and the most professional. They were talking about the Angels the way they used to talk about the Yankees. It was nice to hear.
Riverrun - August 9, 2008
good to hear
because, believe it or not, we are the best in the game.
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
Yep. Starting right around the Halos' 9th run.
But up until then…
Stirrups - August 9, 2008
Tough call
Lots of places to put the Panther, but Naps gets the edge.
red floyd - August 9, 2008
I TiVo'd the bottom of the 8th.
I’m a happy guy.
My only regret is that we don’t have large outdoor movie screens throughout the parking lot blasting Yankers fans as they leave with a video homage chanting how they have been punked.
Stirrups - August 9, 2008
I watched the 8th on the outdoor deck of a pub in Scotland on my laptop
with a Scottish guy and an English guy. By the end of the inning, they were buying another round of drinks they enjoyed it so much. Plus a guy in a Yanks cap game in the pub and we all told him to f—himself. Ahhhhh … happy times.
Now sitting at home, ready to go to bed and start a new day. But had to break out my special stash of American candy to celebrate this one. Already ate half a box of jujyfruits, half a box of good n plentys, and halfway through a roll of Swee-Tarts. Hitting up the gummy LifeSavers and about to hammer into the box of AppleHeads.
Any replenishments which can be sent from the States for the playoffs would be much appreciated.
Napoli. Panther. xxxx all
highlandhalo - August 9, 2008
what!?!?!?!?!?!?
no shock tarts??? no lemon heads??? tell me you at least have an abba zabba
halofan4life - August 9, 2008
Straight out of shock tarts
Got a couple rolls of Sprees left though. Last time I went through Glasgow there’s a deli that stocks American stuff, I got those Lifesaver Fruitlicious Wild Cherry things …. Damn now those were good! They didn’t last long though, one bag got me through a couple of those night games we won before the AS break.
highlandhalo - August 10, 2008
Dude. I'd be glad to oblige.
Do you need a list to refresh your memory?
Stirrups - August 9, 2008
I remember you saying you like David seeds
I have about 50 assorted flavors of 5.25 ounce bags. I am willing to part with about 20.
It would be no problem for me to send them; my office sends out about 150 pieces of mail a day.
Funke5ive - August 9, 2008
I would happily mail you candy
Seriously. Email me.

... the whole highlandhalo clan are moving south in a few weeks to London to a permanent address address yet unknown. We’ve got a house sorted out in north London but I don’t even know the address yet (I know where it is, but not the essential numbers) ... So until I get an address in London thanks for all your kind offers xxx hh
highlandhalo - August 10, 2008
That 8th inning
frenzy hitting = shades of ‘02.
Forget all about 1995.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 9, 2008
ahhh, a great day!!
3 OUT OF A TOTAL 4 POINTS TODAY!! WOOHOO!!
im4kiss - August 9, 2008
Does this make it up to Shields
For the 8th inning at Yankee Stadium?
red floyd - August 9, 2008
And, by the way, the New York media
is now starting to acknowledge the Halos as the benchmark of baseball, that any team must measure themselves against to determine how feasible that team’s chances might be this season.
“Saturday’s game was yet another piece of evidence that this Yankees team might not be fit to compete with the Angels, the most successful team in the Major Leagues. And when they lose games because of a leaky valve in the bullpen - one of their strengths - this team appears in even greater trouble.“
Stirrups - August 9, 2008
why do i always miss games like this?????
AHHH!!
anyway, Tex’s homer was a BOMB, i loved seeing Napoli back and hitting well (can we get some playing time for the man?!), and comebacks that turn into routs are always fun.
i love this team.
howiestheman - August 9, 2008
panther: scoscia
for leaving lackey in to K a-rod. we took the momentum there
ihearhowie2.0 - August 9, 2008
It's nice to see Claim Jumper have to pony up free sliders
in consecutive games. Reminds me of two seasons ago when Hooters had to give up the wings three games in a row.
Anyhow, just another Halos victory. Panther is everyone!

look at what happened TWICE when i left.........to go home/work
angels offense blows up….....and i didnt get to record it because i switched over to record the Bills preseason game…...UGH…...oh well…...halos win…...
norcaliangelsfan - August 9, 2008
Unfortunately for the Bills
The Skins didn’t come out with 10 guys on defense this time.
ReggieBullits - August 9, 2008
Lite up the 14 game lead.........and according to ESPN.......a 99.1% chance of making the post season lol
norcaliangelsfan - August 9, 2008
I've seen a LOT of long HR's at the Big A
But that Tex HR was monumental…
In person saw Bond’s in WS game 2, Ortiz’s long ball last fall :((, Willie Mays Aikens hit one back in the 70’s that one-hopped the back fence in RF before enclosed, but that ball Tex hit today was WAY OUT to CF. Anybody catch a distance on that thing? 460ish?
Ps…Naps for Panther!
K3YEROUT - August 9, 2008
450
Same distace and location as Bo Jackson’s All Star Game shot in 1989.
Rev Halofan - August 9, 2008
holy freakin crap
i saw the replay and guessed it at 430+, but i didn’t think it went 450.
that’s incredible.
howiestheman - August 9, 2008
Best moment of the game...
Tim McCarver was babbling something about the Yanks having the best record in baseball when leading after 6 innings. No sooner did he finish his sentence when Naps sent it over the wall. The rest is history…
Scuff - August 9, 2008
Yes, it was sweet. Did you notice how quiet McCarver got
while the Halos racked up runs? Silence really can be golden!
Stirrups - August 9, 2008
I hate the Fox national broadcasters
red floyd - August 10, 2008
Nipples...
No doubt.
So nice to see him back in Anaheim. Such good at-bats.
jimmuscomp - August 9, 2008
I swear I saw him at the Tustin Marketplace Taco Bell drive-thru this evening...
anyone know what color his ride is?
