he’s new. He’s not throwing an exceptional number of strikes. Just stand there and see what he has, and swing at YOUR pitch. He’s a career minor leaguer, not prime-Pedro Martinez. Christ.
Q in, GMJ in, Rivera out, GA out… How badly do you want to loose ? Oh, and Garland pitching – not that he is that bad, but you know he’s going to give up some runs!
Because Scioscia hates us for some reason. Let's all think back....did we say something to piss him off or what?
This is Waters’ peak of his career. He started 179 minor league games…now gets his chance and he’s on fire. This is the apex, the pinnacle. It’s all down hill from here, and he’ll say one day to some dude passed out next to him at a bar “Man, when I got called up, I shut out the best team in baseball. Bartender! Another round of root beer schnapps!”
“We’re going against a finesse lefty and Q usually does pretty well against those guys. It gives us a chance to let Juan [Rivera] catch his breath, too.”
Producer: Remember guys, we can’t swear on the air. Rex: But this is &#*! ridiculous! Gimme a bat! I'll show this *&%*#) ^(*# who’s boss! Phys: Yeah… what he said! (cheesy chuckle) Producer: and act surprised! Rex: x%x#% you.

He never wanted to win this one. “Q is a good match”. Right. Playing Matthews AND Q, benching GA and Rivera. He actually gave up before the game even started.
A friend of mine who can’t afford to go to many games, was GIVEN Diamond Club seats by her 4th grade class as an end of the year present for tonight. She misses our Championship softball game for it (we lose by 2 runs and might have won if she showed) and she gets to watch Robb Quinland and GMJ.
it drives me crazy when athletes make some sort of remark to the effect that God allowed them to win. Some reporter asked, “what was the key to your success.” answer “God just loves us more”
I'm a fan of boxing and mma, and I always find it kind of weird when some dude is passed out on the canvas and the other guy is thanking Jesus for his dominant victory.
Thank you for letting me have this guy taken out on a stretcher, Jesus.
other than those first few batters in the first, our pitchers put on a great performance tonight. Apparently baltimore found texas’ secret out of putting us against new pitchers. Blame of the game tonight is Mickey Hatcher taking one for his whole offense.
We need a slump buster for mlb pitching debuts

UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Great job Garland!
We need one more inning from you.

howiestheman - August 5, 2008

infant - August 5, 2008
Someone needs to arbitrarily charge the mound.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
i think scioscia was trying to build water's confidence
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
much like every other freaking pitcher that makes his debut against us
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Only to have that same pitcher CRUSHED by Kansas City, the Mariners or the Giants the next time
infant - August 5, 2008
nice attempt Aybar
SCHalo - August 5, 2008
is it just me or are this innings lasting like 2 minutes
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
if the angels are hitting, yes, they take 2 minutes
infant - August 5, 2008
It is very dissapointing to watch this
I had high hopes Torii and U-Haul would not have this problem.
infant - August 5, 2008
Finally U-Haul gets on base
infant - August 5, 2008
UHaul.... OBP-manimal
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
tie it up Vladdy!
SCHalo - August 5, 2008

F*ck you Angels. This is a total shame.

Vlady.
Take a couple pitches, brah.

its so great how he can hit anything out of the strikezone
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008

howiestheman - August 5, 2008
No sense dragging things out...
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
teams should jsut call up young pitchers
when they face us
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Young pus-throwers to be more specific.
Just like Ponson, we can’t hit people with 85 MPH heat.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
So our only hope is that Sherril will come in in the 8th or 9th, right ?
infant - August 5, 2008
vlad is kinda annoying sometimes
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Bizarro Vlad is, yes.
We’ve seen too much of him this year.
infant - August 5, 2008
Tomorrow's pitcher is Olson.
We faced him before, right?
infant - August 5, 2008
Ill answer my own question
We faced him, for the first time, last week and lost. So we should win tomorrow.
infant - August 5, 2008
Got toasted too.
Once again because GA, Juan weren’t in.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
I remember :(
infant - August 5, 2008
NAPOLI UPDATE:
right now, he’s 1-3 with a double.
they’re in the 7th inning
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
does Scioscia still think Q can hit lefties?
There are some pretty stupid quotes in here
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Those quotes are disturbing
and they frustrate me
infant - August 5, 2008
same here, friend
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Came in with a .306 average on the year against lefties, IIRC.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
Quinland hasn't faced a pitcher in a while though

UCIHalo - August 5, 2008

Zu Long - August 5, 2008

howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Oh, why do I care, Garland is not to blame for this
3 runs through 7 innings. That’s pretty good.
infant - August 5, 2008
QS, i do believe
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
this game has been a disapointment
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
It's time for Torii to start it off right in the 7th for us.
infant - August 5, 2008
ha
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Griffin: Hey man, I think we need to stop playing Q and GMJ.
Scioscia: Yeah, I guess.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
Well done Garland...
Like I said, 3 runs thru 7 ain’t half bad.
NOW START GETTING SOME HITS!
infant - August 5, 2008
Hey that Amstel commercial is actually Dutch
That’s funny.
infant - August 5, 2008
That's it for Garland.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
Good Job Garland
That 3rd out was rough. But way to keep us in it.
Now let’s hit!!!
vladtheimpaler - August 5, 2008
The only exiting thing for us so far is that we'll see Loux today
infant - August 5, 2008
I hate the way this team faces new pitchers
he’s new. He’s not throwing an exceptional number of strikes. Just stand there and see what he has, and swing at YOUR pitch. He’s a career minor leaguer, not prime-Pedro Martinez. Christ.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 5, 2008
He has a HIGH ERA in AAA too
They should be able to absolutely CRUSH him
infant - August 5, 2008
I actually like this team's chances against prime-Pedro.
They hit heat-throwers pretty well.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
Game 6 2002 was 5-0 right now.
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
Yeah, but the giants failed to have a no-name, minor league, miserable piece of shit pitch that day.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
Russ Ortiz comes pretty close to that though.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
A miserable piece of shit, yes, but unfortunately for the giants he'd thrown a pitch in the majors before that game.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
Here's my advice for Scioscia
Next time an opposing team calls up a pitcher from the minors, stick some of our own minor leaguers in the lineup!
infant - August 5, 2008
My advice
send all our hitters to the plate without bats.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 5, 2008
They're already doing that by the looks of things.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
He is trying that tonight. Look again at the lineup.
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
TRUE minor leagues
not major leaguers that SHOULD be sent down.
infant - August 5, 2008
Yeah... then we could all pay $50 to see the Salt Lake bees play the Pawtucket whatevers
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
I bet you our minor leaguers would crush this Waters dude.
infant - August 5, 2008
Wood would've had 6 RBIs by now :P
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
At least ;-)
Wood & Rodriguez would’ve known what to do!
infant - August 5, 2008
guys guys guys...
terrible, terrible, terrible!!!
infant - August 5, 2008
when do we start seeing pinch hitters?
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Not until the 9th.
infant - August 5, 2008
Okay, what do we do here guys?
Loux coming in? Any lineup changes?
This stuff right here aint workin’.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Scioscia determined before the start that he wanted to lose this game.
infant - August 5, 2008
So everything is going according to plan!
infant - August 5, 2008
Or as The Joker would say..."It's allll part of the plannn."
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Seriously though, you're right. GMJ=no win. I think Rev said that the last 6 or 7 we've lost have had GMJ starting.
Or something ridiculous like that.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Yep
Q in, GMJ in, Rivera out, GA out… How badly do you want to loose ? Oh, and Garland pitching – not that he is that bad, but you know he’s going to give up some runs!
infant - August 5, 2008
quality start tonight
i’ll take it!
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Me too
Garland did a good job. Especially considering the rough first.
infant - August 5, 2008
I'm finding this WAY more entertaining than I should
Thank you Rex and Phys for keeping this enjoyable.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
I think all they play by play guys figured out that taking shots at Hud is fun AND entertaining
melvintoast - August 5, 2008

he is warming up in the pen.
44FAN - August 5, 2008

Zu Long - August 5, 2008

he’s in left field
howiestheman - August 5, 2008

Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
I meant pitchers and you know it. ;-P
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
tee hee
ain’t I the worst?
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Looks Loux Good!
infant - August 5, 2008
Loux Baseball Diamond Phillips
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Oh man. Loux played for the 2003 Tigers (losers of 119)
I think Gary Coleman and Pauly Shore also played for that Tigers team.
Fan Since 1981 - August 5, 2008
Corey Feldman carried them.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
How do you carry someone to 119 losses?
More like he dropped them.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
That loux like a walk to me
infant - August 5, 2008
He caught him Loux'in
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
ha!
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
scooscia thinks that rookie pitchers are unhitable
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
They ARE.
At least in this game.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
And that Q is good against "finesse" pitchers such as Waters
Yeah… That’s great.
infant - August 5, 2008
I'm going to do offensive chugs right now.
Don’t ask.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
i'm asking.
what?
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Family, friends, and family of friends...we started some seriously insane superstitions during the 02 run
Offensive chugs…chug at least one beer without stopping during the commercial break.
There are more but they’re embarrassing.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
nothing wrong there
but i won’t go any deeper.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
They're innocent. It's the extent of the superstition that's embarrassing. But hey...that's baseball. And i'm sure i'm not alone.
In fact, that’d be a good fanpost.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
no shame in superstition
especially when it comes to your team.
that’s my stance.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
And it was always at the same house, about 30 people each game that year.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Loux good to me!
To bad our offense doesn’t.
Yes, I’ll stop the “jokes” now.
infant - August 5, 2008
good inning by Loux
he can be our new mop up guy
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
2nd.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
Loux in the 8th for the win. Frankie the 9th to save it. Just the way The Soth planned it.

b0rd3rline - August 5, 2008
Why am I afraid this is going to be a 1 hit, CG shutout for Waters ?
infant - August 5, 2008
Yup, Loux getting in was what we were waiting for.
Time to crush this fool.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
GMJ - GET HIT BY A PITCH ALREADY!
infant - August 5, 2008
F*CK YOU Matthews!

UCIHalo - August 5, 2008

mjhsieh - August 5, 2008
so......
i’m pretty sure Soth WANTS us to hate GMJ.
that’s the only logical explanation I can think of.
it’s 3-0… with some pinch hitters, we’re still in this effing game.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
This guy has been like a left handed Mussina.
Fan Since 1981 - August 5, 2008
This is truly unbelievable
WHY did GMJ hit, with Rivera, GA and Willits on the bench ?
infant - August 5, 2008
Oh... I thought this was an exhibition game!?!?
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
Yeah, the orioles, that's not a real team, right?
snowhor - August 5, 2008
I thought this was a team from the Israeli league or something
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
I think you're right. It's a good thing that's the case and this won't count. Otherwise this would be embarrassing.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
Because Scioscia hates us for some reason. Let's all think back....did we say something to piss him off or what?
This is Waters’ peak of his career. He started 179 minor league games…now gets his chance and he’s on fire. This is the apex, the pinnacle. This pitcher has been the most dominating we've faced this year
I don’t think we’ve been 1 hit before this year!
infant - August 5, 2008
we have
i think it was against the royals
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
You sure? I thought Spiezio one hit us
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
May 9th, Tampa Bay
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
Probably also against a rookie?
infant - August 5, 2008
And was it a complete game, like this one most likely will be ?
infant - August 5, 2008
don't think so
but B.Wood was the only one to get a hit
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
thank you for proving my point from earlier
;)
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
what was your point?
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Wood would've hat 6 RBIs by now.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
had*
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Is it me or is the Bird Mgr William Shatner?
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
ok guys im back, dominated my bball game!
wallispdub1 - August 5, 2008
BAD timing, Soth
“We’re going against a finesse lefty and Q usually does pretty well against those guys. It gives us a chance to let Juan [Rivera] catch his breath, too.”
infant - August 5, 2008
yeah, that and..
“I think this is a good matchup for Q”.
really? are you serious?
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
That's what he said allright.
infant - August 5, 2008
And then he followed it up with a comment about all the drugs he's on.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
I definitely get the feeling that Rivera's leg is of concern... I think there's a stamina issue there.
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
That's ok
So put him at DH.
And thats not a reason to bench GA AND Rivera at the same time.
infant - August 5, 2008
GA was too lazy too pinch hit
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
Then it's a good thing that he got no playing time in the first half of the season to build up some strength.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
where is the complaint department?
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008

A lot of us seem to agree on that

Apparently, we've resorted to the lazy fly ball to right field attack.
snowhor - August 5, 2008

UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
this game = FAIL
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
This game is going to be the new FAIL
You’ll see funny pics with bold letters on them that say “Angels vs. Chris Waters”
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008

howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Hula dula
melvintoast - August 5, 2008

wallispdub1 - August 5, 2008
This was DISGUSTING
Props to Waters but really, Angels, this should not have happened AT ALL
infant - August 5, 2008
scioscia you fail
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
2nded
Q and GMJ ARE NOT MAJOR LEAGUERS
S-Rod and even Brown have more upside than Q and Willits is MUCH better than GMJ
MH252525 - August 5, 2008
CRAP!!!!
SCHalo - August 5, 2008
Ballgame. Sigh.
Zu Long - August 5, 2008
What's with the post-game rally caps?
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
best team in baseball my ass
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Lucky streak indeed.
infant - August 5, 2008
How the rookie 1 hits the best team in baseball!
See, being in the spotlight isn’t that much fun.
infant - August 5, 2008
CRAP!!!!
I’m NEVER playing bball on game day ever again!!!!!
wallispdub1 - August 5, 2008
i will take the Blame for this one guys
wallispdub1 - August 5, 2008
Ouch
That guy sounds like a complete douche. Or no, worse, he sounds like a Southpark character.
infant - August 5, 2008
1995
LOL!! just kidding.
SCHalo - August 5, 2008
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
motion to ban.
gdog009 - August 5, 2008
Sosh for BOTG.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
Requesting a rule waiver, the manager earned it tonight.
snowhor - August 5, 2008
Yes
He never wanted to win this one. “Q is a good match”. Right. Playing Matthews AND Q, benching GA and Rivera. He actually gave up before the game even started.
infant - August 5, 2008
the last three games have shown a new side of the angles
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Hunter BOTG
or Soth
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
Hunter ?
The entire offense was lame. Why Hunter ? Because he happened to be the last batter ?
infant - August 5, 2008
Fangraphs says Hunter-- that's why
I was too drunk to place real blame
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
Also the 1st inning GIDP
TheTypingFiend - August 5, 2008
you know Soth really pissed me off
A friend of mine who can’t afford to go to many games, was GIVEN Diamond Club seats by her 4th grade class as an end of the year present for tonight. She misses our Championship softball game for it (we lose by 2 runs and might have won if she showed) and she gets to watch Robb Quinland and GMJ.
BOTG = Soth!
MH252525 - August 5, 2008
Thats tough
Personally I have never been to a game in which Soth put such a lousy lineup together. I’m hoping that stays that way.
Soth: don’t even think of putting GMJ and Quinlan in the lineup on Sunday against the Yanks!
infant - August 5, 2008
i was at opening day this year
when Q got the start over Kotchman.
i was beyond pissed
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
THIS IS A preprogrammed failure.
Basically, someone flush this down the toilet if you would be so kind.
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
DONE!
ladybug - August 5, 2008
PANTHER PHOTO!
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
I agree with Soth as BOTG. It would be his first of the year. Might as well, because that lineup stunk.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
As they say in Futbol -- the manager should always take the blame
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
I'll tell ya who's to blame.
RoboRev didn’t pre-program a panther of the game thread!
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
Oh man. I was just about to say to myself as they were interviewing Waters "Hey, he did good. Give him props."
Then the dude answers to questions in a row with “Well, I just put it in the lords hands.”
Not to start holy wars….but c’mon.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
*two
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
And while he said that, he sounded like a Southpark character
Waters, enjoy the credit and respect you get until your next start, in which you’ll be blown up. Thank the Angels for this moment! They sucked ass!
infant - August 5, 2008
I know, it was just so robotic. If you're that into the lord, at least rejoice ecstatically and praise him with some gusto.
Robot voice: I PUT IN LORDS HANDS. BLEEP BLOOP BLIP.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
then he shouldn't get the credit for the win
ladybug - August 5, 2008
Maybe that's the key to the Angels' failure against rookie pitchers
All of them put it in the lords hands. After a few starts, they think they can do it themselves and are lit up.
infant - August 5, 2008
The Lord gets the win. Although we have dude's who are into the big guy, so I guess The Lord also had a crappy time at the plate tonight.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
I'm almost positive that Tex and Torii and possibly GA are.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
and Speier too.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
well, Speier joined the wrong denomination this year
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
LOL
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
Fo sho. Right now they are denouncing God.
F-you jo boo. I do it myself.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
So if the Lord gets credited for the win, then he's also BOTG
just kidding…. I’m a believer
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
No the Angels had a crappy time...
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
good follow up question
“So does that mean that the lord wanted the angels to lose tonight?”
“Why is it that God decided that your team would win?”
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Man, if an interviewer went that route, it'd be pure gold.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
The Lord must look after his Angels
when the almighty Reverend is absent
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
i am a believer but
it drives me crazy when athletes make some sort of remark to the effect that God allowed them to win. Some reporter asked, “what was the key to your success.” answer “God just loves us more”
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
they're giving credit where credit is due.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”
ring a bell?
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
preach!
key is giving credit to God, but not has if he somehow was dictating the balance of the game
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
truth
giving credit to God for the ability and the opportunity, not necessarily the win.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
"And He will make the pitches of thy enemies low and outside."
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
that made me giggle.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
NICE
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
"pitcheth to Vlad, for he will hit into a double play most righteously."
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
and thus, Vlad hiteth into the double play, thereby making 2 outs for his opponents.
And the Lord saw that it was good.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
And the Lord was grieved at his creation
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
lol
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
this is too funny
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
I'll remember that the next time I take a huge bong rip.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
agree
but there is a difference in thanking God for your health and athletic ability and thinking that God allowed you to destroy your competition.
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
i don't think Waters did that
all he said was that he “put the game in the Lord’s hands.”
that doesn’t sounds anything like thanking Him for the enemie’s destruction.
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
enemy's*
howiestheman - August 5, 2008
I'm a fan of boxing and mma, and I always find it kind of weird when some dude is passed out on the canvas and the other guy is thanking Jesus for his dominant victory.
Thank you for letting me have this guy taken out on a stretcher, Jesus.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
haha
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Waters must be pretty danged important
for The Lord to interrupt overseeing the universe in order to interfere with a baseball game in Anaheim, California.
I don’t feel so bad about this loss after all!
Stirrups - August 5, 2008
I know, especially since God used a miracle to help the Angels earlier this year...according to The Onion at least.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
Angels in the outfield....
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 5, 2008
Winning in June was damn near a miracle.
melvintoast - August 5, 2008
needs a break from the War and famine.
Probably needs a break from the Jolie-Pitt birth. It was a rough one
ladybug - August 5, 2008
He doesn't need a break, but he does have to regroup before he battles not one but two anti christs.
Mayheminthehood - August 5, 2008
thought we already played the Yankees and the Red Sux?
ladybug - August 5, 2008
He
UCIHalo - August 5, 2008
Wouldn't be
the first time
TheTypingFiend - August 5, 2008
Pitchers
other than those first few batters in the first, our pitchers put on a great performance tonight. Apparently baltimore found texas’ secret out of putting us against new pitchers. Blame of the game tonight is Mickey Hatcher taking one for his whole offense.
