Panther of the Game: Ervin Santana
Against the monster Texas offense, Ervin's 5-HIt 7K gem stands out on a night of awe-inspiring performances.

without his catch, games tied
AnaheimHalos61 - August 29, 2008
honorable metion to GA though
AnaheimHalos61 - August 29, 2008
I'd love to give it to GA
But Voodoo was just too much of a witch out there against a very potent lineup. His stuff was filthy!
yeswecan - August 29, 2008
Lots of choices
Voodoo, Hunter, GA, and Frankie.
I’m gonna give Frankie the love this time.
red floyd - August 29, 2008
Garret
I got with GA
Monkeyspanked - August 29, 2008
I'm not sure you should be
advertising that. He’s a married man.
GarretSaysSuckIt - August 30, 2008
Santana
Although GA and that incredible catch I’m hearing about are both close.
Frankie rules.
vladtheimpaler - August 29, 2008
Santana sterilized a potent Ranger lineup tonight.

i was picking up my lady at the airport
We got back to my place, she was tipsy (she had a few on the plane), I turned on the game while we ate In-N-Out. She had bought me a rad GA jersey last year for my b-day, and so she slurred, “Whhhy donyou put on your jerrrsey? And I’m thinking, "You don’t wear your gear to watch the game on TV unless it’s the playoffs.”
But not wanting to explain wardrobe etiquette, I walked to the closet. Just as I touched the jersey, I hear the crack of GA’s bat and turned to see it fly out.
I will wear my jersey to watch games on TV from now on.
yeswecan - August 29, 2008
awesome
AnaheimHalos61 - August 29, 2008
I thought this was leading into a "How I scored with GA's jersey" story!

LAYE WORD TONIGHT
FOX/ Ken Rosenthal is saying the Angels are negotiating with the Blue Jays to acquire Davis Eckstein before the Sunday deadline. Angels feel he would suit their need for a 2B/SS and would be welcomed back by Angels fans with open arms. Jays are reluctant to trade for their other two guys which leaves Eck.
44FAN - August 29, 2008
sorry, that is LATE WORD TONIGHT
44FAN - August 29, 2008
point taken. this could happen
vladtheimpaler - August 29, 2008
Also..
On the Sports Lodge this morning, Dave Smith said that the night before he had talked to Tony Reagins. He asked Reagins to come on the show, but Tony said he would be too busy to call in as that he would be on the phones all weekend. this definitely says something. Bye the way, if Eck were to come back, I’d be the first to buy his jersey. Love that guy.
AnaheimHalos61 - August 29, 2008
Think that Dino Ebel will reliquish #22 for him?
I think he will.
Downing Rules - August 30, 2008
He'd have to move up to 26 then...
23 = Butcher
24 = HGH
25 = Tex
red floyd - August 30, 2008
I'd like it for the '02 memories
but I don’t know how much I really want that bat…or that glove.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008
Especially if it costs us anything more than a B- level prospect.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008

most righteous, 44fan my friend
ANewFoundThrice - August 29, 2008
Santana
he was dominant against a fantastic offense, and every time someone DID reach, he buckled down and went to work, getting the pop-ups and strikeouts when he needed them most.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008
Santana, fo shizzle
Honorable mentions to GA and Torii
howiestheman - August 29, 2008
btw, if anyone cares..
the phillies traded a minor league pitcher to get matt stairs. http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080829&content_id=3385336&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi
AnaheimHalos61 - August 29, 2008
I think the real headline is
“Matt Stairs still playing baseball”
sub-headline:
“Gets traded to Phillies.”

Voodoo doing his thang.........
Hunter has got me thinking Pantherish thoughts about him
norcaliangelsfan - August 29, 2008
GA for the win
princeton11loveshalos - August 29, 2008
Tough call....
Santana held a tough offensive team to 1 run in 8 innings.
Old Man River hit a clutch home run.
Torii made a highlight reel catch…I’mnot sure if it would have left the park, but it would have got the Rangers back in the game.
K-Rod..what can you say? He had to face 3 tough left-handed hitters (Hamilton, Bradley, Blalock) He struck out Hamilton and Bradley (did you see Bradley hopping around after the strikeout ’cause he was so badly fooled?), and got a ground out from Blalock.
I think I give it to K-Rod. He made it look way too easy tonight.
sothball - August 29, 2008
Hula Dula
That’s my gut feeling, having just returned from the Big A.
He scaled that wall like an arachnid and STOLE that tie away.
Second place tie for the kitty: Voodoo Bubblegum and Thee Olde Man.
This was an especially fun night for me, because I brought a buddy to the game who hasn’t been to a ballgame since he was ten. And if someone had said to me “you can have your pick of pitchers – who do you want to be on the bubble for your friend tonight?” It would not doubt have been Santana. And he delivered just like I said he would. And then at the top of the ninth I got to say to him “you are about to see the best closer in baseball.” And I was right.
Awesome night.
Zoe Necrosis - August 29, 2008
By the way
I am so tossed right now – I did not mean to nominate GA for second place Panther. I of course meant Juan.
Zoe Necrosis - August 29, 2008
Wait, did I mean GA?
I was in the beer line when it happened…
Zoe Necrosis - August 29, 2008
It was G.A.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008
Thank you
Bed now

Is that Eisner in the background?
red floyd - August 29, 2008
That's what I'm talkin' about!
vladtheimpaler - August 29, 2008
Torii!!!
That was a game saving catch!
gohalos912 - August 29, 2008
Ervin!!
8 innings of good pitching
Mickey Hacker - August 29, 2008
HDTV slow-motion replay
suggests to me that Torii’s catch, while phenomenal, did not take away a home run. Looked like it was heading for the top of the wall.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008
What would the Ranger's fans say? LOL
44FAN - August 29, 2008
I got to find out how dumb they are today first hand
a few good’uns over there, but I’m shocked those guys could recognize the keys on their keyboard well enough to register their disdain with our presence there.
They’d probably just grunt and pound their chest, and throw their remote through the T.V. They probably also really, really hate Geico.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 29, 2008
They gave you a much worse time than me.
They are the definition of dumb. Once they run out of “talking points,” they scurry away like roaches. When you speak the truth to them they just cover their ears and hide their faces.
44FAN - August 30, 2008
I thought it was funny that "oc" was pleading with me to persuade Rev Halofan to reinstate him as a member on HH.
44FAN - August 30, 2008
So THAT'S the bug up his ass
what was he booted from here for?
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 30, 2008
I have no idea really. I don't remember anything specifically.
Someone over there said he posted a gif of Hitler eating watermelon on veteran’s day. But back when this supposedly happened pictures were not allowed anyway.
44FAN - August 30, 2008
He had a bug up his ass
long before posting here. And I was above the “CATCH” and the ball was going out.
Rev Halofan - August 30, 2008
Were you at the previous night's game?
I have no idea where to look for you, but I was in 238, row XX
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 30, 2008
Wed and Fri this week

Rev Halofan - August 30, 2008
From my vantage point, I agree.
Downing Rules - August 30, 2008
Panther=Ervin
Great perfomances by Lazy, the Frankster, and torii, but 1 ER through 8 innings is pretty damn panther especially against the rangers.
anaheim angels - August 30, 2008
That is the deciding factor
That he pitched 8 lights out innings agai8nst a dominant offense, Ervin gets the Panther on a very PANTERO-ESQUE night!
Rev Halofan - August 30, 2008
scottnak - August 30, 2008
I vote for Santana, GA, Torii all in first place.
Great game. One of my favorites I’ve attended thus far (coming up on 30 games).
Downing Rules - August 30, 2008
I woke up to see
a beautiful, beautiful thing. The 40k+ in attendance were treated to a gem.
Panther all around!!!
