First he Brings in S-Rod to BUNT for crying out loud. I would have been alright with it (okay I still would have been mad that Morales was out) if he let him swing away.
Then he brings in Speier who was thinking “Oh God, Please dont let it be Scioscia calling me into the game,” as the bullpen phone rang. "The last thing I need is to go to sleep tonight still hearing the BOOOs from my own teams fans.
all it does is get to our bad relievers quicker. i think its safe to say scoscia is more concerned with keeping everyone fresh than he is winning games now
Speier’s been bad pretty much all year. And yet he keeps coming on in these situations. Oliver & Shields both did fine and didn’t throw a lot of pitches. Why are they out of the game ? Why no Loux ? EVERYBODY knows Speier will give up AT LEAST one run.
Speier has pitched in 49 games, including tonight. He has been scored upon in 21 of those appearances. That’s flat-out unacceptable for a relief pitcher.
my wife made us leave in extras, just got back in time to see the Punto triple.
Am I the only one who is thinking Hunter tried to make that into a hilight catch more than it was. He didn’t even have to jump, just run under it from what I saw.
With that said, just cut ties with Speier and bring up the best AAA reliever (Bulger)
I got home in the 10th inning. I reviewed the box score, hoping that Speier had already pitched. Seeing that he hadn’t, I knew the game was lost. Since they owe him another $9 million or so, I don’t say DFA him just yet; put him on the DL with a case of severe suck, and leave him there until rosters expand. Bring up Bulger, and give him Speier’s innings. This is not rocket science.
for forcing me to join the – ugh! – r a a a a l l l l y thread.
For the record, Hunter should have caught that flyball., He overran it and did nto need to jump. Ironically, GMJ probably catches that as easy as Hunter should have.
And Figgy should have been guarding the line closer with the winning run at 3B.
And Tex must be wondering how fast he might be able to jump to a lineup that can keep up with his offense.
I encourage all readers to note the time that scottnak officially emptied the first thread. Compare to the events on the field that tranSPEIERed thereafter. Morales is lifted, acuda (predictably) goes haywire, Oliver does Ok, and then it all falls apart for good.
Until some future game proves otherwise, rally threads ain’t.
(Somebody find acuda’s lithium. He’s still haywire.)
this is, walk off time

If we lose it BOTG goes to Scioscia.
acuda27 - August 21, 2008
i'll agree with that
Kendry should’ve been hitting there
howiestheman - August 21, 2008

We're back to the June offense...
cardinalwraith - August 21, 2008

First he Brings in S-Rod to BUNT for crying out loud. I would have been alright with it (okay I still would have been mad that Morales was out) if he let him swing away.
Then he brings in Speier who was thinking “Oh God, Please dont let it be Scioscia calling me into the game,” as the bullpen phone rang. "The last thing I need is to go to sleep tonight still hearing the BOOOs from my own teams fans.

I just… ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh leadoff triple? Ugh.
shiftyeyedgoat - August 21, 2008
To Nick freakin' Punto
If I’m not mistaken, one of our pitchers gave up Punto’s first HR last year, too. Must’ve been Speier
infant - August 21, 2008
Speier you no talent ass clown.
infant - August 21, 2008
why no Loux?
tanana40 - August 21, 2008
we like to lose in the 12th
not the first time this year…
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
Soth wants Speier to get his confidence.
This is helping.
infant - August 21, 2008
Speier is a vet'run. Nuff said with Scioscia's tendencies.
cardinalwraith - August 21, 2008
why didnt oliver stay in?
is scoscia trying to lose?
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
Speier need to strike this guy
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
Sit DOWN.
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
good DAY sir!
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
walk this guy to set up the DP
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 21, 2008
Nah. Span is fast.
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
IBB if you please
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
Now follow the formula. Walk the next guy and give em a DP
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
I said WALK the next guy
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
Bootcheck
can lose games for a lot less money than they’re paying Speier.
jjackflash - August 21, 2008
heh. truth
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
But Bootcheck doesn't drive a new Porsche 911 Turbo convertible
Just sayin’.
infant - August 21, 2008
are they trying to squeeze?
Red - August 21, 2008
No because if they were they'd tag out the runner.
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
Game over, folks. Thanks, Speier.
cardinalwraith - August 21, 2008
Okay it's 1 run...
Now we watch the DP which we shoulda seen to begin with
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
Curious
Speier has now pitched in 49 games. I wonder how many of those times he hasn’t given up a run? Six, maybe?
jjackflash - August 21, 2008
Speier you ass
If WE all knew this was going to happen, why didn’t Scioscia ?
infant - August 21, 2008
because we have brains when it comes to veterans?
Sosh overlooks all that and blindly trusts whatever they do
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
daggonnit
scottnak - August 21, 2008
again i say
is anyone really surprised about what just happened?
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
Not a bit.
infant - August 21, 2008
I am... I thought it'd be a homer instead
Chone's Chonies - August 21, 2008
touche
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
Not at all!
K3YEROUT - August 21, 2008
I think the larger question is what happens next year?
Do we hope speier somehow breaks out of this, or just assume he was on HGH or something like Matthews and let him go.
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
he's had more than one good year
i think we’ll let him rebound.
Shields did.
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
if you have a 1-7 record for the best team in baseball, you're not doing your job
tanana40 - August 21, 2008
and they still have nathan
better bullpen management by them. +1 gardenhire
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
yup
we’re officially eff’d
howiestheman - August 21, 2008

Zu Long - August 21, 2008
hahahahaha
oh the hurtful truth…

you f’ing IDIOT…
how many lessons do we need to learn with this guy.
he’s TOTALLY inconsistent.

where'd dondo go?
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
i think he's unavailable because of yesterday

He’s plain terrible.

ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
have we won a game that teixeira has homered in??
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
1x
scottnak - August 21, 2008
He homered in our 11-4 win over the Yankees at home
the one where we took it to the bullpen for 10 runs.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 21, 2008
Christ Speier
You want to be tough and get to Mauer eh ?
Serve him a cookie ?
infant - August 21, 2008
What the hell
is there a reason Shields and Oliver got only one inning each, despite both doing fine?
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 21, 2008
I don't get that either. Bad management.
infant - August 21, 2008
Isn't Dondo available?

Mike suspects the jet lag is just too much for our offense and figures it's a lost cause?
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
ya i asked that 10 minutes ago
all it does is get to our bad relievers quicker. i think its safe to say scoscia is more concerned with keeping everyone fresh than he is winning games now
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
I think Speier should volunteer to go to AAA or lower after this game.
infant - August 21, 2008
C'mon GA... be the star that you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Red - August 21, 2008
This sucks, but just a BAD slump yall
We shall overcome.
Don’t stop believin
KendrickExperience - August 21, 2008
bad august
Los Angeles de Anaheim - August 21, 2008
Always preferable to a bad october though >_>;
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
I'd rather slump now...
and hopefully pick it up in the playoffs.
Red - August 21, 2008
indeed, I remember the 2002 team having slumps like this
tanana40 - August 21, 2008
It's not just the offensive slump.
Speier’s been bad pretty much all year. And yet he keeps coming on in these situations. Oliver & Shields both did fine and didn’t throw a lot of pitches. Why are they out of the game ? Why no Loux ? EVERYBODY knows Speier will give up AT LEAST one run.
infant - August 21, 2008
Except Soth, apparently
I call it a cry for help.
Seriously, let him go. DFA his ass. Jason Bulger could hardly be worse. Shane Loux could hardly be worse.
scareduck - August 21, 2008
somebody
had to do it

howiestheman - August 21, 2008
One run game.
Oh well, Joe Nathan needs a loss anyway… >_>;
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
21
Speier has pitched in 49 games, including tonight. He has been scored upon in 21 of those appearances. That’s flat-out unacceptable for a relief pitcher.
jjackflash - August 21, 2008
scoty just lent GA his thong
slump is gone!
melvintoast - August 21, 2008
LET'S GO ANGELS!

Justin Sipid would give up a run some way or another
red floyd - August 21, 2008
I don't blame you Torii
Speier should never have thrown that meatball. Anybody else but Punto would’ve hit it out.
infant - August 21, 2008
+1
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
You are correct, young one.
cardinalwraith - August 21, 2008

tanana40 - August 21, 2008

tanana40 - August 21, 2008
Alright guys, let's steal this one now!
and give “good” ol’ Speier a win for once
Chone's Chonies - August 21, 2008
Just got back from the game...
my wife made us leave in extras, just got back in time to see the Punto triple.
Am I the only one who is thinking Hunter tried to make that into a hilight catch more than it was. He didn’t even have to jump, just run under it from what I saw.
With that said, just cut ties with Speier and bring up the best AAA reliever (Bulger)
MH252525 - August 21, 2008
It's went off the wall so no... He didn't try to make it a highlight catch.
infant - August 21, 2008
It DIDN"T go off the wall
If went off his glove
MH252525 - August 21, 2008
Looked like it hit the wall to me
Whatever. He wasn’t showboating I think.
infant - August 21, 2008
seriously
Bulger could not be worse. Not even Bootcheck is worse.
jjackflash - August 21, 2008
bootcheck is as bad... if not worse... but as someone said way cheaper than speier is for this kind of production
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 21, 2008
Naw, it looked like a pretty tough play.
Like infant said, you can’t blame Torii there. Any other batter in baseball and that lands in the Right Field Pavilion.
cardinalwraith - August 21, 2008
i dont think he was trying to showboat it
that’s not really his style. he makes amazing plays, but he doesn’t overdo them on purpose
howiestheman - August 21, 2008
No... Hunter was just a hair ahead of it.
Yeah, Speireieirireiieirirereir should be DONE… seriously, I’m sick of him.
Red - August 21, 2008
yea that's what I mean, he was ahead of it
thus he didn’t really need to jump
MH252525 - August 21, 2008
Looked real catchable to me!
K3YEROUT - August 21, 2008
I don't think so.
infant - August 21, 2008
as Red said Hunter was ahead of it
He overan it and jumped when he didn’t have to
MH252525 - August 21, 2008
what a way to break the streak
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
He starts a streak of SO's now.

howiestheman - August 21, 2008
i'll say it.
here comes the K to end the game.

This was a lousy offense battle!

Man against boys right there!
Frankie…that is how you save a ball game!
K3YEROUT - August 21, 2008
and did you see the strikezone the ump was giving him
that one strike to S-Rod was in the lefties batters box
MH252525 - August 21, 2008
Oh well. After that turn around I didn't really expect a win. Do better tomorrow Halos.
Blame to SPEIER.
Zu Long - August 21, 2008
well its official
the angels definitely dont care about home field advantage. they are not playing like a team that thinks winning is crucial.
ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
Gee. Thanks for wasting 3+ hours.
Fan Since 1981 - August 21, 2008
And everybody knew this was going to happen as soon as Speier was seen warming up.
What the FUCK, Scioscia?!
infant - August 21, 2008
Tell Me About It
I got home in the 10th inning. This is not rocket science.
jjackflash - August 21, 2008
the bats wake up tomorrow!
Starts with Figgy
KendrickExperience - August 21, 2008
gee... i wonder who the blame will fall on... i just can't decide....
Chone's Chonies - August 21, 2008
In all fairness the offense sucked quite a bit.
But I’m all for Speier getting the blame anyway.

Damn guys...
this BOTG is gonna be oh so hard…
scottnak - August 21, 2008
cough

ihearhowie2.0 - August 21, 2008
I miss Lindsay Soto
Red - August 21, 2008
I blame scottnak
for forcing me to join the – ugh!
Stirrups - August 21, 2008
Wellll...
I can blame you for not joining in on the push for the win! Raar!
scottnak - August 21, 2008
I WUZ pushing for the win.
Back over in the thread where we were doing well!
Stirrups - August 21, 2008
Uh....
Post count got high. That mandates for another thread…
Don’t know why you’re giving me all this :(
scottnak - August 21, 2008
Dont worry Scottnak i got your back.....It aint your falt that Sicoscia went brain dead today.
acuda27 - August 21, 2008
dude, I am just having fun with rally threads.
nothing on you at all. chin up!
Stirrups - August 21, 2008
P.S. - I actually was begging for MORE threads before game time.
One thread per inning, just to push mayheminthehood off the main page!! : )
Stirrups - August 21, 2008
HAHAHAHA......That was actually exactly what happened.
That Lifting Morales was A BRILLIANT MOVE by Scioscia wasnt it?
And then he goes Overboard putting in Speier, dude Scioscia is a Genius uh?
Blame Scioscia not SCOTTNAK, although Infant and I were pushing to keep the old thread.
acuda27 - August 21, 2008
I dont get the Lithium part though, but I bet I would laugh if I did.
acuda27 - August 21, 2008
here you go
Stirrups - August 21, 2008
LOL
I was more pissed off than dipressed but it still gave me a good laugh when I clicked on your link..
THANKS : )
acuda27 - August 22, 2008
yea Tex can't be liking this
The Angels practically got no hit when Tex wasn’t batting. Vlad got a cheap single to RF, Howie an infield single. Figgy got a single to left.
Aybar had one hard hit ball as did Hunter.
