For one thing, the bases were only loaded because they error’d on Torii’s DP ball. Rivera at least did something this game. Figgins did nothing, Napoli did Nothing—any number of better choices than Juan.
Apparently, grounding out (twice) with runners on saves you from any blame as long as you drive in two runs. Blowing our two biggest chances seems to earn him this honor from me. Like I said, I don’t care if anyone agrees with me. I know what I saw. And I saw a guy choke twice in big situations.
Considering I hate Figgins, you can't really go there
I don’t see how Juan choked less than Figgins. You guys are just looking at the home run and think he did something amazing. He really didn’t. In the two biggest situations, Rivera grounded out. It boils down to that.
Chasing 4 most of the game getting it to a run only to give it back in the bottom of the inning? Thats “in the game”? Please they were not in the thing at all
That’s a pretty far cry from most of the game. They spent most of the game separated by two runs or less. To any legit baseball fan, that’s being “in the game.”
You definitely are a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm. Me I am a baseball guy that does well baseball everyday.
After 5 complete innings the Angels were chasing 4 runs. You can try to break it down anyway you want, but the truth of the matter is they were never in the game. I am sorry but when your down by 4 after 5 the game is not in your favor, and it isn’t close.
Angels had 7 hits in 33 AB’s (.212) Rays 13-34 (.382). The Angels did not have one hit in the last three and 1/3 innings, and just 1 runner from that point on. So you keep looking through those Angel goggles of yours if you like. If you want to say they fought back to make it appear close OK. Just don’t go talking like this one slipped away.
Down 4 after 5 isn't in your favor and it isn't close huh?
Glad Scott Speizio and the boys didn’t talk to you in game 6. If we hadn’t scored after the Erstad homer to put us within 1, would we have “not been in the game?”
Any time you are within 1 run 7th inning or later, it’s a close game. Any time you win with only a 2 run lead, it was a close game. Any baseball fan I’ve ever known would agree.
Hits are nice, but they aren’t what counts at the end. I seem to remember losing a game this year where we had 5 hits and the other team had 0.
I am an Angels fanatic, and darn proud of it. So, me and my rose-colored, stat-gauging eyeballs will sit here and call you on it when you are wrong, as you are here.
I believe............
course im a bills fan……..and well………nvm………

Morales for Napoli is
everything that is wrong with Scioscia. In a nutshell. Why not keep Morales for the last out – or for Aybar?

Juan Rivera for BOTG
I’m ready to defend my stance from those who believe his HR and Sac Fly should keep him safe.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
At least from the Hitter's standpoint
Garland should be overall BOTG for his pathetic display.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
no way.........come on....Figgy 0-5 with 3 K's.........
gross
norcaliangelsfan - August 18, 2008
Yes, two out of our four runs, he's definitely the biggest problem.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
I guess leaving the bases loaded ...
… and then GIDP in the 8th when we started to get something going is clearly forgiven.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
There were any number of worse plays.
For one thing, the bases were only loaded because they error’d on Torii’s DP ball. Rivera at least did something this game. Figgins did nothing, Napoli did Nothing—any number of better choices than Juan.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
Juan not the guy thats to blame
HR and 1 OF assist
Angel Aviator - August 18, 2008
Are you seriously going to commend him for the assist?
That was all Teixeira.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
At least part of it was Juan, given that the throw made it there in time, on one hop.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
He threw it to nobody
He was lucky to have Teixeira running over there on a heady play. Juan got saved.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
Juan GOT SAVED ALRIGHT
He got saved from any blame in this game. GET IT?
Rev Halofan - August 18, 2008
No, I don't get it
Apparently, grounding out (twice) with runners on saves you from any blame as long as you drive in two runs. Blowing our two biggest chances seems to earn him this honor from me. Like I said, I don’t care if anyone agrees with me. I know what I saw. And I saw a guy choke twice in big situations.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
so choking less than Figgins
gets Juan blame of the game somehow? Do you sleep in your Figgy jersey too?
Rev Halofan - August 18, 2008
Considering I hate Figgins, you can't really go there
I don’t see how Juan choked less than Figgins. You guys are just looking at the home run and think he did something amazing. He really didn’t. In the two biggest situations, Rivera grounded out. It boils down to that.
FlyByKnight - August 18, 2008
Where the hell was the middle INF
Aybar was doing what? Howie was doing what? Aybar with the nice cut on the Torri throw? What is that? He shouldn’t have been anywhere near the ball.
I know how about Izzy BOTG?
Team is 1-3 since he went DL
Angel Aviator - August 18, 2008
who gave up the 2 run homer to Hinske and Floyd
Angel Aviator - August 18, 2008
but Garland always gives up a few runs per start..........
so….he did what he normally does……Figgy on the other hand……0-5 with 3 K’s from your leadoff guy……spells doom
norcaliangelsfan - August 18, 2008
backdoor slider ........ go with it figgy

best road record in the league by far.......
i dont think homefield is that big of a deal
norcaliangelsfan - August 18, 2008
But the Angels play terribly
in Tropicana
TheTypingFiend - August 18, 2008
Not because of our road record.
Because everyone else’s road record sucks so much.
Carl Johnson - August 18, 2008
I would agree with this.
Home field is important.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
well i personally dont think its as big of a deal as you all.........

Angel Aviator - August 18, 2008
Down 1 with 1 out and a man on seems pretty "in the game" to me.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
Once again showing your astute baseball knowledge
Chasing 4 most of the game getting it to a run only to give it back in the bottom of the inning? Thats “in the game”? Please they were not in the thing at all
Angel Aviator - August 18, 2008
We were "chasing four" for all of two innings.
That’s a pretty far cry from most of the game. They spent most of the game separated by two runs or less. To any legit baseball fan, that’s being “in the game.”

Sweep is possible if Santana doesn’t buck up. He’s had trouble on the road still a bit at times.

so you did come back lol
norcaliangelsfan - August 18, 2008
I left with him....
…and never REALLY went away. Like crack, these Angels.
ViolaHalo - August 18, 2008
If we keep playing like this I can only hope for a hurricane-out for the next 2.
The best part of this game was no damn “rally” drum.
sothball - August 18, 2008
ah... but the Rays DO have the "Rally Heckler"
gdog009 - August 18, 2008
Yeah..answer to the question of why straightjackets were created.
Well, here’s to hoping Santana kicks butt tomorrow, the offense gets it in gear, and we never hear a word from the SOB.
