Blame of the Game: Chone Figgins
Popping up with the tying run at 3rd and only 1 out = Blamage.
Scioscia has been quoted saying he did not think Matthews could have safely scored on the Morales hit and if you told me before the game that Speier would pitch 2 and only give up 1 run, I would have thumbs-upped him.

Justin Speier of course
couldnt get the very old sal fasano
WillGoAngels27 - August 17, 2008
Speier
No question.
scareduck - August 17, 2008
May have to go with Vlad here.
How many guys left on base? 4 or 5? Not what we need from him.
Zu Long - August 17, 2008
Not a lot of runners left on when he hits into the DP
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
He only did that once though.
And it doesn’t help his case.
Zu Long - August 17, 2008
Or actually, not at all today.
And only 3 guys. Still though.
Zu Long - August 17, 2008
Leaving runners on base
Is one thing but leaving guys on 3rd with less then one or not getting a guy to 3rd with no outs is much much worse.
Mathis K’d with Q on 2nd no outs today. Aybar left a runner on 3rd with less then 2 outs and so did Figgy. Those type of runners left are the killers. Making the 3rd out with a runner on 1st is not such a big deal
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
4-5-6 hitters...
gave absolutely nothing today
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 17, 2008
0-31
in the series, if the Indians announcers were correct.
Horrid.
ViolaHalo - August 17, 2008
pretty crap effort all around
saunders probably should have given up mor ethan 3
vlad and torii were kinda worthless
speier gave up 1 run in 2 innings which, given our expectations at this point, is really not THAT bad.
speier didnt blow a lead, he just didnt preserve a tie. If we were up 1 and lost by 1 because of him, then its obvious. but the offense just sucked
ihearhowie2.0 - August 17, 2008
Vlad
As much as I like the guy, he’s been looking terrible this series.
infant - August 17, 2008
Vlad
Or Speier
highlandhalo - August 17, 2008
GMJ
for not scorin on the k-mo base-hit. worthless.
calikraze - August 17, 2008
Vlad
Aybar and Tex actually did a pretty good job of setting the table for him…and he really never hit the ball hard.
tbone_cutter - August 17, 2008
GMJ definetely
Funny how people single out Vlad, a lot of hitters didn’t step up tough to single out one guy… but GMJ’s only job was to score and he couldnt.
Sinatrasratpack - August 17, 2008
Granted I didn't have a good view
But I expected him to score indeed. I pretty much know for sure Willits would’ve done so. Was this Dino’s call or was GMJ just not paying attention?
infant - August 17, 2008
GA for being so lazy and not playing
ihearhowie2.0 - August 17, 2008
Not Vlad
Come on be serious. Aybar and Tex got on early and Vlad hit into a FC (because of bobble by 2B) but Aybar scored later on WP/PB. The only other time Aybar was on was a 2 out DBL and Tex K’d
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
With 2 outs he scores
Got to get him home from 3rd with 1 out in the 9th. Thats the bottom line. Just a fly ball scores him. Would not have to be deep
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
when
we give Frankie the BOTG its because no matter waht happened earlier in the game he didnt do HIS JOB. GMJ’s job as a pitch runner is to score. by definition he is BOTG
Sinatrasratpack - August 17, 2008
Not So Good
team has to pitch run a guy who has a screwed up knee? That is not good at all!!
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
agreed
Sinatrasratpack - August 17, 2008
Exactly
Stick him on the f-ing dee-el already so Scioscia doesn’t have that choice.
Clutch - August 17, 2008
10=3 runs?
Bad job of situational hitting. Thats the blame of the game right there.
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
Vlad
saw 9 pitches today and swung at every single one of them…not less than 2 of those pitches were sliders that bounced!
BOTG = Vlad
K3YEROUT - August 17, 2008
Make sure we clarify
This is who is to blame for this paticular loss.. Vlad while having a bad game at the plate, did get one run home, allbeit by a bobble, but with so much bad situational hitting hard to single out one guy
Sinatrasratpack - August 17, 2008
uhh
love how Vlad is so aggressive and goes after any pitch
UCIHalo - August 17, 2008
False
how was the count on him 2-0 when he swung with Figgy stealing. That was the 3rd AB
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
figgins
bottom of the 9th runner on third less than two outs, down by one. failed to execute a fundamental task
UCIHalo - August 17, 2008
Thats what I am talking about!
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
So Un-Clutch
All he had to do was get a ball in the air… and there he is hacking for a sharp liner past the bag… wake up Desmond…
Rev Halofan - August 17, 2008
a little surprised i had to scroll this far down
to find someone who agreed with me.
figgy all the way.
NoDakHalo - August 17, 2008
i couldn't watch the game, so i'm curious...
could GMJ have scored on the Morales single in the 9th?
howiestheman - August 17, 2008
Willits could have
But if we are to believe that GMJ’s knee is tweaked than maybe not. His approach to 3B was gingering it when we needed a marianne.
Rev Halofan - August 17, 2008
thanks
Rex sounded PISSED on the radio, and they both said that he got a really crappy read on the ball.
howiestheman - August 17, 2008
yep, heard Rex
he was not happy with GMJ’s read.
SCHalo - August 17, 2008
Speier
Record (1-6)
That pretty much says it all.
anaheimisnotla - August 17, 2008
Vlad
Carl Johnson - August 17, 2008
If your dump on Vald then you also have to dump on
Howie as well. He was 0 for the series also (0-11) not to mention he has not been hitting much for the month.
Angel Aviator - August 17, 2008
Seriously
Howie has been looking bad as well.
infant - August 17, 2008
between vlad, torii, and howie
i believe they went 0-31 in the series.
NoDakHalo - August 17, 2008
I dump on both
But Vlad has a reputation to uphold.
Carl Johnson - August 17, 2008
Not to mention the whole $14 million salary difference.
Zu Long - August 18, 2008
GM jr.
His play has been in the tank. Hitting, Running you name it. He literally hasn’t hit the ball out of the infield in about 2 months.
higdog - August 17, 2008
I blame Robb Quinlan.
because of his existence, Kendry Morales was unable to play the entire game, thereby, unable to win it for us. :P
seriously though, it’s either GMJ (who got a TERRIBLE jump on K-mo’s single), or Justin Speier (for obvious reasons).
howiestheman - August 17, 2008
dont you ever speak down on the Q
bite your tongue!
ihearhowie2.0 - August 17, 2008
lol sorry
but i just can’t stand the guy.
even so, i can admit that he had a good game.
howiestheman - August 17, 2008
hey if Q doesnt exist... that means no more Mrs. Q in the booth... and i object to that
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 17, 2008
hahaha
okay, i guess you have a point.
howiestheman - August 17, 2008
I'm thinking
we should create a new, separate category of panther/blame. If we win a series, we have a panther-of-series, if we lose it, a blame-of-series. Because this entire offense needs to be held accountable for this abortion of a series. We faced THE WORST BULLPEN IN BASEBALL, and repeatedly failed to either get to it, or score off of it when we did face it…in situations where we needed no more than 1 insurance run, or 1 run to tie, or two runs to win.
FREAKIN’ PATHETIC!
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 17, 2008
Ab-so-
friggin-lutely.
ViolaHalo - August 17, 2008
uh, yeah
agreed
AnaheimHalos61 - August 17, 2008
BOTG: The Holy Trinity (Vlad, Torii, Howie)
ZERO hits in the series. A disappearance quicker than John Edwards’ career.
PieceOfAase - August 17, 2008
Thank You Very Much!
…
JAY LENO, EVERYBODY. GIVE’EM A HAND ONE MORE TIME!!
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 17, 2008
Hopefully the team figures this out before the RAYS series........
or it could be ugly as well……..its not july anymore
norcaliangelsfan - August 17, 2008
Well dont know where this falls under "its not that bad category" but.....
the “Chowd’s” lost 2 in a row to toronto…….and the Rangers are giving the Rays all they can handle in their series…..so apparently…..its just a bad weekend to be a front-runner against a crappy team
norcaliangelsfan - August 17, 2008
Lackluster weekend...
Lucky to win one (could have been 3-0 or 0-3).
Maybe a hurricane will shake ’em up.
