btw – anybody remember that game last year, against Baltimore or some team back eastish where Kotch was in the on-deck circle and the guy at-bat fouled it back into Kotch’s shirt… he then, completely deadpan as only Kotch could, reaches in and takes the ball out to throw it to a fan… hilarious.
I was in a dealership earlier this week and they told me that (because they noticed my plates) Speier just bought a brand new 911 Turbo Cab the day before. Also that Matthews bought his Bentley there. I posted this in the other thread 1 sec before everyone went to this one.
GIDP with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning was a huge moment in the game. I don’t care about his hit streak. That was a major epic fail on his part.
There were a billion huge moments in the game with players that didn’t come through…at least G.A. did something that really helped later to try to make up for it.
But rather than go over all of them, I’d suggest you go back and read my comment for the joke it was…like the part where I said he doesn’t get BOTG for hitting a foul off the ump.
cussing out an umpire when you’re coming out of the game is just childish. Don’t bother defending it…it’s childish, and he should be above it, or at least know how to address it without swearing and bitching.
Frankie did NOT look good. EVERYBODY, both mariners and Angels pitchers, had to deal with the same ump, with the same zone and with the same problems.
Nobody bitched about it. Frankie did a bad job and blamed the ump. If I do a bad job tomorrow, I cannot go scream at my customer or client – and neither should Frankie. We’re all grown ups.
It’s fine if your passionate (please be!) but that was childish.
On the other hand, I’m sure he’s as upset with himself as with the ump. Which is good.
I didn’t like the ump either. But Frankie was off and the ump was not to blame. If Santana and ET can get people out with that ump, Frankie should be able to do the same. He couldn’t. His fault, not the ump’s.
What does that mean? Not so sure I understand your defense for the awful performance of Fing-Rod tonight.
Guy spit the win up. Regardless of everything that took place this evening…....in spite of everything when in your words” the best closer in baseball” took the mound in the top of the 9th they had a 2 run lead. When he left they were losing.
He gets mass credit each and every time he comes into a game. He gets national exposure as well. Guy will break the record more then likely.
I am guessing what really makes you mad about tonight is you will have to crunch the numbers to see what his XPLZS is, or what ever it is that makes him the best
He bitched about at least one call that he was WRONG about. And to top it off, he got himself ejected…and for what? To make himself look like a jackass and accomplish absolutely nothing?
The fact that we’re even having a debate about his attitude tonight is all the proof you need that he should know to keep his emotions in check to SOME degree.
but he was not good tonight! The thing that gets me is if you think you got hosed then act on it then, not when you get done allowing 3 runs and have been takin out. Kind of makes one think he is trying to let people know it isn’t his fault he was not good tonight. Take blame and move on….....
In all honesty I am not a big believer in pointing a loss at any one guy, but there is a theme here on HH.
I have always played and coached that you win as a team and lose as one. This club does not count on just one guy night after night and thats a sign of a great team.
I’ve had a ton of debates in the past on this board where I’ve defended Frankie…perhaps too much. I even argued, back before the $15 million days, that I wanted to extend him.
So I’m on your side in a sense, but I just don’t take poor attitudes well.
Which makes me a bigger hypocrite than anyone you can name.
1) I think some of it has to do with his contract demands and SEEMINGLY selfish attitude
2) It’s the nature of a closer…when he saves a game, he did his job…good for him, whatever, let’s move on. When he messes up, he’s in the high profile HOLY FUCKING SHIT WE JUST LOST THE GAME BECAUSE OF THAT position. Even though the 3 he gave up are no more significant than the 3 given up by Santana, he was the one in the position to be most noticed during a failure…much like a loss in April screws you as much as one on September 30th, but you sure the hell don’t say “man, if only we had won that April 18th contest in New York” if you lose a division by one game.
He blows saves, did it the same way K-Rod does, and yet he’s a god.
K-Rod’s contract demands are exactly in line with what everybody else at his position is getting. Lidge, Nathan, Rivera, Ryan have all gotten big contracts, and K-Rod is better than they are.
Maybe it’s part K-Rod’s fault though. He never seems to blow the one-run leads, the one’s where you could say “okay, that’s not all his fault.” He always finds more spectacular ways to blow up.
Still, when the guy who leads our team in fangraphs win% has 4 blames and 1 panther, you start to think that something’s broken. God help whoever saves games next year.
ONE photo of them during the little photo session – and i guess he appointed himself the sheriff of photography limits that day. i snapped off 2 or 3 shots of him with my kid and he made it known that i was making everyone elses wait in line longer. boo hoo!
Monkeeeee time!

He sucks
ladybug - August 13, 2008
Balentien had a track record of power IIRC
Strikes out a ton but had pretty good power in the minors.
scareduck - August 13, 2008
i applaud Torii Hunter though.
what an amazing effort on his part.
screw you, Speier.
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
Applaud
Hard to applaud when he is paid for that. Pay me his contract and I would have ran through the thing

i think he gets it if he doesn't think it's a routine fly
looked like it caught him off guard.
SCHalo - August 13, 2008
10 runs to the mariners?
lord, that’s like giving up 30 to any other team.

The worst Angel game of 2008
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
I am forced to agree.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
sorry the game where the Halos no hit the dodgers and lost still takes the cake.......
norcaliangelsfan - August 13, 2008
agreed
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
I thought we agreed that this never happened.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
We never played the dodgers
right
WillGoAngels27 - August 13, 2008
Never had the lead
28 times in the game though
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
He was out of the inning...just don't throw a goddamn meatball
and he gives one up to that assclown.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
For a moment I thought Torii had it

For a moment
Torii did too!

What happened to that being the absolutely wrong attitude, missy?
:-D
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Speier came out of his hole
I’m not bitching about the game. It’s focused solely on that butthole
ladybug - August 13, 2008
Get up an arm from AAA to replace Speier
He’s been off all season and gives up more longballs than our starters. (OK, I got to check the numbers on that but it feels that way anyway)
infant - August 13, 2008
i can haz Bulgerz?
:)
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
I'm all for it.

Per inning he's WAAAAAY ahead.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
sorry... but i don't and have never liked speier...
good guy, but an inconsistent pitcher.
game over most likely… thanks justin.
Red - August 13, 2008
ditto
Speier is the least consistent, solid pitcher we have. Why couldn’t Oliver stay in there?
ladybug - August 13, 2008
Let's go guys
Make this game even longer ;-)
infant - August 13, 2008
Lets Do This
C’mon GA
Funke5ive - August 13, 2008
Speier does not REFUSE TO LOSE
He wants to go home in his new Porsche and figured this was the quickest way.

AnaheimHalos61 - August 13, 2008
Right.
Game is NOT over.

good, break his wrist
SCHalo - August 13, 2008
did u see it swell up?
AnaheimHalos61 - August 13, 2008
Blame of the game
Has to be Howie. If that DP ball is taken care of per usual, the M’s don’t come back and we’re all happy.
scareduck - August 13, 2008
yeah yeah
cuz HOWIE gave up that 3 run bomb.
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
We aren't in extras if HK handles the DP ball
Teix’s solo homer in the ninth is a walkoff shot.
scareduck - August 13, 2008
Nah. They were ahead after that.
Frankie.
infant - August 13, 2008
They were tied after that.
Speier.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
But shouldn't have been tied in the first place.
Both Frankie & Shields really sucked tonight. We should’ve never gotten to extra innings.

Ump wrist in the corner pocket.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
BOTG
Goes to Anderson, Kendrick, Shields, Frankie, and Speier. They can all share it together.
FlyByKnight - August 13, 2008
G.A. is excused
for hitting the umpire and scoring the go-ahead run in the 8th.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
No, not really
GIDP with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning was a huge moment in the game. I don’t care about his hit streak. That was a major epic fail on his part.
FlyByKnight - August 13, 2008
Well, it BECAME huge
There were a billion huge moments in the game with players that didn’t come through…at least G.A. did something that really helped later to try to make up for it.
But rather than go over all of them, I’d suggest you go back and read my comment for the joke it was…like the part where I said he doesn’t get BOTG for hitting a foul off the ump.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
If woody had gone to the police this would never have happened
melvintoast - August 13, 2008

i think i agree with that one
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
me 3
Funke5ive - August 13, 2008
Yes, because telling the umpire he's wrong when he was is such a POS move.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
He was wrong all night
Frankie was just being an ass.
infant - August 13, 2008
Then it's about time someone told his ass that.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
he was already coming out of the game
what good does it do?
that’s right.. NONE
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
What does it cost?
Nothing. He’s done for the night.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
it was a douchebag move.
plain and simple
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
But only when he does it.
When Tex argues with the ump about the guy being in the baseline, that’s cool right?
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
he didn't do it 10 minutes later
when nothing could be done about it, did he?
not only that, Soth came out to argue that play as well.
he didn’t come out to argue balls and strikes, which is what Frankie was crying about.
howiestheman - August 13, 2008
Like I said. When Tex does it, hey that's cool. Mike had to hold Tex back as I recall.
Frankie didn’t even get all up in the ump’s face.
Hell, I’m pretty sure Oliver got tossed with some choice words for the ump earlier this year. No one said anything about how “childish” it was.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
If I were in the thread
I would have. I hate all tantrums, of any type, in this game. And that’s what this was. A tantrum.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Frankie's a grown man
cussing out an umpire when you’re coming out of the game is just childish. Don’t bother defending it…it’s childish, and he should be above it, or at least know how to address it without swearing and bitching.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Yeah, when other people do it, it's team spirit.
But oh boy, when Frankie does it, it’s being childish. God, I can’t stand it.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
That's a weird statement
I don’t care who does it.
Which is good.
infant - August 13, 2008
I'm pretty sure John's pulled that stunt before
I don’t believe anyone here yelled at him for it.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
I would've if I had seen it
I didn’t like the ump either. But Frankie was off and the ump was not to blame. If Santana and ET can get people out with that ump, Frankie should be able to do the same. He couldn’t. His fault, not the ump’s.
infant - August 13, 2008
No, as I recall, everyone blamed Howie when ET couldn't get outs.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Home Plate Ump
did nothing to make HK go dumb on D
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Frankie hadn't done anything to make the ump go blind.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Sad excuse
Excuse! Ump doesn’t give 2 shits about who wins! He was behind the plate for every pitch both sides.
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Want credit for the Save
Then stand up and take the blame when you spit the win up
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
2 career panthers.
I’m not seeing a whole lot of credit for saves around here.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Speak Clearly
What does that mean? Not so sure I understand your defense for the awful performance of Fing-Rod tonight.
Guy spit the win up. Regardless of everything that took place this evening…....in spite of everything when in your words” the best closer in baseball” took the mound in the top of the 9th they had a 2 run lead. When he left they were losing.
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Really? That went over your head?
Check Stirrups’ sig sometime. You said that if he wants credit for the save he should man up about it when he gives it up, right?
My reply is that people AREN’T GIVING HIM ANY CREDIT round these parts. If that’s too hard to understand, I can’t help you.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Credit?
He will get enough $$$ he wont need credit Zu!
He gets mass credit each and every time he comes into a game. He gets national exposure as well. Guy will break the record more then likely.
I am guessing what really makes you mad about tonight is you will have to crunch the numbers to see what his XPLZS is, or what ever it is that makes him the best
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Strike zone seemed fine to Oliver
Frankie COULDN’T FUCKING PITCH TONIGHT.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Sure, he couldn't pitch.
But some of these guys… they can barely contain their glee. Lackey has something bad happen, and it’s “Oh no!” “Too bad, everybody has one of those.”
K-Rod has a bad night and it’s “HAHA! You don’t deserve $15 million!” The double-standard gets to me after a while.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Fair Enough
but he was not good tonight! The thing that gets me is if you think you got hosed then act on it then, not when you get done allowing 3 runs and have been takin out. Kind of makes one think he is trying to let people know it isn’t his fault he was not good tonight. Take blame and move on….....
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Yup
we blamed the person responsible.
Just like we blame the guy who got smacked around in the 9th inning, while Oliver came in and did just fine with him.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Just like half the people blamed Frankie when Tex made the error.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Who then
Who is and why is it the way it is tonight Zu?
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
I already gave it to Speier.
Tie game, got two out, three run jack. But hey, whatever. Most of you guys want to see him leave anyway, and have since the season started.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
What about the other innings
Those don’t count? They had a lead in the top of the 9th. 2 run lead and lost!
Then he gets taken out and thrown out! Not such a wonderful night
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Again
I can’t speak for others. I know I didn’t post anything about that in the game thread, because I was AT that game. I blamed Tex the whole time.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
*Deep breath* Yeah.
Maybe you’re right. I get so used to having to defend him from the bullshit criticism, maybe I’m going to far here. This one is probably on him.
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Outstanding
Good job…thats seeing the light.
In all honesty I am not a big believer in pointing a loss at any one guy, but there is a theme here on HH.
I have always played and coached that you win as a team and lose as one. This club does not count on just one guy night after night and thats a sign of a great team.
Angel Aviator - August 13, 2008
Actually
I’ve had a ton of debates in the past on this board where I’ve defended Frankie…perhaps too much. I even argued, back before the $15 million days, that I wanted to extend him.
So I’m on your side in a sense, but I just don’t take poor attitudes well.
Which makes me a bigger hypocrite than anyone you can name.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
I just... don't get it.
All that guy has ever given us is his all. 90% of the time it’s enough. Why do they hate him so much?
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Because it's not 100%
1) I think some of it has to do with his contract demands and SEEMINGLY selfish attitude
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Not saying it's right or fair...just the way it is.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Then why doesn't Percy get any hate?
Zu Long - August 13, 2008
Again. It's obviously not fair.
But it is such a fact of life at this point, that I just don’t care enough.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Not with me, man
you won’t find a post of me legitimately defending anyone for cussing out an umpire for no real reason.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Or for a reason, for that matter.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008

I think comparing the actual, tragic death of a human being

Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
