Panther of the Game: Vladimir Guerrero... It should be Guided By Voices, who sparked the rally, but you decide below...

Panther:Kotch
Or vlad
WillGoAngels27 - August 12, 2008
Juan is my pick.......
he started the rally…......and brought in the last run as well…......sooo…..he gets my vote.
norcaliangelsfan - August 12, 2008
my man GA
he continues to surprise
yeswecan - August 12, 2008
G.A. is my panther
also, the pre-season pick to win the A.L. West is about 2 weeks away from being mathematically eliminated from the division title.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2008
Wow. That is really something.
I guess I kind of knew this, but seeing it written out like that just serves as a reminder about the lack of respect this team gets. That’s all changing/gonna-change now. No matter the signings or the losses, things had better be different pre-09.
But then again, who gives a shit. Let them eat crow.
Red114 - August 13, 2008
REFUSE TO LOSE!
I’ll keep sayin it. Doesn’t bother me one bit.
Vlad’s cannonball sunk the seamen’s ship. He gets my vote.
ReggieBullits - August 12, 2008
old man river...blue smoke...G.A. ...whichever!!!
sothball - August 12, 2008
Someone needs to go back through all of our archives
and divide up our posters into two types of people from now on:
Those who always supported G.A., and those who did not.
Those who did not shall have to wear a scarlet letter in their signature FOREVER.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2008
All that love for getting one hit?
Stirrups - August 12, 2008
No
all that love for batting .371 with 7 homers and 32 RBIs with an OPS over 1.000 since the end of June.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2008
Small sample size.
Stirrups - August 12, 2008
I hope you're being contrary just for the sake of being so
being the hottest player on the team for a quarter of a season isn’t an unfairly small sample size AT ALL. Considering he did the exact same thing last year at this time of year, and it continued on through the entire second half, and considering he got MASSIVELY shit-upon for being mediocre-to-bad in the first half, its pretty fair to scoff at all the naysayers who insisted he was done during that half.
Plus, considering he’s ARGUABLY the greatest Angel (guys who are ‘career’ players) of all time, and that the lazy-joke about him actually is the product of a legitimately held belief, the man is due for a good sized helping of love after he’s received relatively little for so long.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2008
amen... all hail GA
BigBangRobbDawgg - August 12, 2008
Yes. I am being contrarian for the sake of it.
But, as this is the honor system, I was one of those who got on GA’s case for being so MASSIVELY bad in the first half.
Stirrups - August 12, 2008
I would label his first half
as being horribly, horribly, streaky. He’d have a good weeks scattered amongst really, really bad ones. In the end of the first half, I think he had like a 92 OPS+. Bad, but not apocalyptic…which is the impression I get from reading the comments around here.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 12, 2008
Geez. Apocalyptic is THE personality definition of this place
whenever the Halos falter. Don’t worry too much about any special treatment for GA.
Stirrups - August 12, 2008
Tough job.... There's a lot of sarcasm in those archives
melvintoast - August 12, 2008
That's okay
90% of that sarcasm is probably mine…so it just needs to get discarded when looking for true G.A. hate.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
If GA weren't so lazy
190% of that sarcasm would be yours.
TheTypingFiend - August 13, 2008
But if Gary Matthews Jr. were playing left field
none of the sarcasm would be mine, because it would have fallen to the ground after GMJ dropped it.
And if Juan Rivera got regular playing time, my sarcasm would be producing more consistently.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Which begs the question
would your sarcasm be good for the grass out there in left?
TheTypingFiend - August 13, 2008
Me too.
I’ve always been a GA fan. At my first time at Anaheim in about 20 years, I only wound up with an Ersty T-shirt because the stand I was at didn’t have a GA.
red floyd - August 13, 2008
Poser... If GA wasn't so lazy he'd take some masking tape and cover up the
ersty and put an Anderson on the back.
melvintoast - August 13, 2008
17 is a harder number to get to the 16.
Ergo, wearing an Erstad shirt takes more effort than an Anderson shirt.
TheTypingFiend - August 13, 2008
Let's start with the honor system
GA is my man. Always has been. 2 more years, 2 more years, 2 more years!
vladtheimpaler - August 12, 2008
Sorry. Already busy. :P
But big GA fan from the beginning here! \m/
scottnak - August 12, 2008
Hallelujah!
Damned straight.
GarretSaysSuckIt - August 12, 2008
I'd fall in the GA hater camp
He was so good for so long, then the injuries came and his power went. You’d have to look a the last two seasons together to come up with a one good one.
rjcicc - August 13, 2008
Garret says
Garret says…Garret says…
GarretSaysSuckIt - August 13, 2008
His totals from last year came up to a 114 OPS+
His style of being bad in the first half, and explosive in the second half, and getting that kind of overall very good production isn’t really any different than a streaky guy who is good one day, and bad the next for an entire season. It’s different in his splits, sure…but the end result if the same kind of production…and I’d rather it be second half production than first half.
Caseys Kiss of Death - August 13, 2008
Seriously
How can you hate an all time Angel top 5 player? Seriously, how can you hate a player who has done great things for us in the last two years? Without GA, we may not have won the division last year.
vladtheimpaler - August 15, 2008
Vlad
GA’s RBI’s didn’t end up mattering, although they looked like they were going to.
Carl Johnson - August 12, 2008
Big Daddy "don't ever count me out" Vladdy
Though I voted for Judy,Judy,Judy in the poll and GA sure knows how to keep a hitting streak going.
vladtheimpaler - August 12, 2008
Juan Rivera!
Funke5ive - August 12, 2008
Easy call -- go ahead bomb by Vlad is good enough for me
Big Easy Halofan - August 12, 2008
Oh, and Frankie owes Tex and Soth a steak dinner for the save.
vladtheimpaler - August 12, 2008
ill be the first to admit that i think GA is lazy and have said that he is a bum
so if someone will show me how to do those signature things, that you all have so cleverly come up with, i will gladly make my crow eating public for everyone on here to see!
help a brotha out!
Blue smoke for all time panther (kingfish included) and panther of the game today!
wallispdub1 - August 12, 2008
click on your profile at the top
then click on edit profile. a box that says signature next to it should be there for you to write in.
AnaheimHalos61 - August 13, 2008
perfect
i figured it out like an hour or so ago, hopefully it worked. GO HALOS
wallispdub1 - August 13, 2008
SHOCKER IN (non)GLOOM TOWN
where’s yeswecan to give me props.
Mayheminthehood - August 12, 2008
Mag Earwhig err.... I mean Panther
Vlad. He smashed that homer to take the lead.
Doctor Wu - August 12, 2008
He hit the ball into alien lanes
Mayheminthehood - August 12, 2008
can i get some Panther love??
i found the frickin’ video! :P
j/k, kids.
but seriously, Panther goes to Johnny Ringo, who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
howiestheman - August 12, 2008
by the way... here's a fun stat.
since the beginning of July, the Angels have gone 21-5 (including tonight) when Rivera starts in the game.
eat that, GMJ.
howiestheman - August 12, 2008
That's a REALLY telling stat.
Though, what’s the record with Juice?
TheOptimist - August 12, 2008
not as good?
couldn’t tell ya…. i actually got that stat from angelsbb.com.
can’t take credit. just thought i’d share.
howiestheman - August 12, 2008
Well, put it this way.
When Juan DOESN’T start, we’re 5-4 in the same time period.
TheOptimist - August 12, 2008
GOT IT!
since the beginning of July, we are 7-8 when GMJ starts a game.
i could be wrong, but that’s what I came up with.
i’ll take Juan’s 21-5 record any day of the week…
howiestheman - August 12, 2008
Yeah, that one includes all those 4 games he was filling in for Torii
where we went like 1-3.
TheOptimist - August 13, 2008
Rivera.
He had the best game at the plate of anybody.
I would have given it to Garland, but he only pitched 7, costing me a point. by not making it into the 8th.
Stirrups - August 12, 2008
Johnny Ringo!!!
Mayheminthehood - August 12, 2008
scottnak - August 12, 2008
Just returned from The Big A
I feel like Thee Olde Manne gave it the deciding shove.
Zoe Necrosis - August 12, 2008
Just got back from the game as well
Gold Star for Robot Boy err Panther… Vlad.
Cadillac was just icing on an already delicious cake.
cupie - August 12, 2008
Juancho
Solo shot starts the rally, and the next inning he has a huge double to the wall.
red floyd - August 12, 2008
So...
At first I was feeling like “aw, poor Seattle, I feel guilty. We don’t need to beat them up to get the division. It’s like we’re kicking someone when they’re down or bullying them.”
But then, out of idle curiosity, I meandered over to Lookout Landing and found their game thread littered with juvenile homophobia.
Thanks, LL. I feel much better now.
Zoe Necrosis - August 12, 2008
Yeah they're a sad bunch.
norcaliangelsfan - August 13, 2008
LL
Why is that they hate the angels/anaheim/california/life so much? I really don’t understand. And the pseudo-intellectualism kinda bugs. Is it the city of Seattle itself? I really never minded the Mariners, except for 1995, but all this hate strikes me as strange.
linkbruin - August 13, 2008
Envy.
Baseball America still thinks Seattle is a suburb of Tokyo.
Stirrups - August 13, 2008
Lookout Landing sponsors Scioscia's player page on baseball reference!!!
Seems strange to me.
MidwayCityLivestock - August 13, 2008
That was an ongoing joke around here, as the M's faded, then folded.
Ther are probably more than one HH’er waiting for their official elimination date so that this “sponsorship” can be brought back to their attention.
Stirrups - August 13, 2008
it was in retaliation, i think
Jeff from LL was pissed off that the Rev sponsored some of the Mariners’ pages (can someone confirm? I can’t remember), so he took Scioscia’s page.
Obviously, the funniest part about it is that his prediction about his beloved team now reads like sarcasm, which it wasn’t.
yeswecan - August 13, 2008
confirmed. except it was not jeff, it was a group of them who each pitched in a dollar or so apiece. jeff has a life.
Rev Halofan - August 13, 2008
Vlad
I was at the game, sitting in section 304, Row A with a perfect view of his HR. That ball was unequivocally the hardest ball I’ve ever seen hit. Never more than 30 ft above the ground and almost took out a Japanese youth all star team sitting near the rear of field level in the corner.
swiss mcgee - August 13, 2008
JUANCHOOOOOO
When he kicks ass a pitcher gives up the lead and then the one that gives us the lead back ends up getting the panther.
POTG ALL THE WAY…....and props to Big Vladdy for his huge HR.
acuda27 - August 13, 2008
Seattle sports radio this morning...
all they could talk about was how hard Vlad hit that HR…
Description was…”if you turned up the broadcast volume, I’m pretty sure I heard the ball say OW!”
K3YEROUT - August 13, 2008
funny funny funny
